In my opinion, not to diminish the quality of your first videos, your reviews of this season are the best so far

I get your HH Holmes reference. Sadly, one of the scariest bits of media I was ever exposed to was an audiotape recording of some old time radio suspense and horror shows, one of them was based upon the Chicago "murder castle" hotel. Even now, 30 years later, the memory of a vengeance-seeking sister of one of the villain's victims mindlessly stating "right to revenge" over and over at the end echoes in my mind. 😱

Oh god, I'm a huge Beatles nerd and fangirl, so I feel you on having the whole band or at least one of the members as a guest star. I'd have killed to see that when I was a newbie fan back in the mid 2010s, and I've grown up watching Scooby Doo since I was a toddler, so that would have been a double win! I even remember scouring the list of episodes we had on dvd to see if they might have made an episode with them in it, then later the internet to no luck sadly.
Reading this comment actually brought back a really cringe but funny memory of me and my younger sister sitting down together and literally coming up with a whole scooby doo episode from this series including The Beatles! Since there wasn't one, we might as well make one up ourselves no matter how bad it will end up, am I right? We had the whole plot and even dialogue and corny jokes and slapstick akin to what the actual show had. I believe we even included a chase scene with one of their songs playing, I can't remember if we had them actually singing it in the would be animation, or if it was just playing in the background like the og where are you series. (That would definitely not fly today let alone back then probably for copyright reasons, and on top of how cheap hanna and barbera was especially with this series in particular.) The only thing is we kinda pulled a cheap move ourselves like the original creators of the show and literally ripped off the plot of the candy factory in the Cass Eliot episode, but just changed it to literal cheese for some dumb reason! XD Don't ask me why we picked freaking cheese to be made in a factory! We even had the 2 ghosts from the original episode be green moldy cheese globs instead of green candy globs! We were kids back then, so I guess what do you expect lol! Honestly looking back on it now, our whole ripped off plot line gets worse and more ridiculous the more I think about it! Like why would one of the most famous bands in the whole world buy a literal freaking cheese factory?! XD I remember we went so far as to record ourselves on my tiny mp3 player just reciting, and doing terrible voice impressions of the gang, and horrendous Liverpool accents for The Beatles! I deleted that recording a long time ago thank goodness it was so bad and cringe worthy! But I now have a rather funny and fond memory from my childhood that spawned from being a super bored, and crazy new fangirl of my now forever favorite band with way too much time on her hands! 😂
Btw, anyone reading whose a fan like me with animating skills, feel free to take my gold mine of an idea and make a fan video/animation out of it! Lol

Funny enough, with the exception of Andy Griffith, every celebrity you mentioned has appeared in an animated form one way or the other over the years: Mickey Rooney was on 'The Simpsons', Elizabeth Montgomery in the opening of 'Bewitched', Lucille Ball (via stop motion) in the opening of 'Here's Lucy' and of course, the Beatles had their own animated series and 'Yellow Submarine'.

Whoever wrote the Mama Cass episode acts like their family was killed by a female opera singer.
And you're right on about Dick Van Dyke. His vocal performance was probably the best of all the guest stars in the series.
These videos can be a blast to make, but I'd be lying if I say they're not without issues. Sadly, the only space for a studio in my home is on the same side as the road and it takes twice as long to record because so many takes are ruined by cars going by. I'm looking into ways to soundproof further, but it's not exactly as simple as putting up a thick curtain.

Lots of fun here. For the gold smugglers they could have wrapped the bars in gold foil. Sure it would have taken more boxes than shipping an entire brick, but with a slightly thicker than usual sheet of foil they could minimize the number of boxes, it would satisfy any inspectors if they opened a box because it set of a metal detector, and they wouldn't need to melt down the candy bars to recover the gold.

@@JoeGoesOver I would’ve gone with either “Charlie Bucket” or “Willy Wonka”, given what you said in the video; and I mention Charlie Bucket, because he is the title character of the original book called “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”, which both the first and second Wonka films were based on. I don’t include the prequel film, because it was solely based on the 1970s film and gives little to no ties to the original book, to the point of having the Oompa Loompa being depicted as a carrot colored alien like the 70s film, rather than an African Pygmy like in the book. To think that Tim Burton was respecting one of the key important elements of the book being that the Oompas were African Pygmies who respected Wonka for making a deal to pay them in Cocao Beans and saving them from having to eat foul-tasting gourmet.
Interesting fun fact: the scene in Despicable Me where a Minion drinks Dr. Nefario’s anti-gravity serum and ends up in space is actually taken from the aforementioned Charlie book, in which, Wonka’s talk of Fizzy-Lifting Drinks (yes, they are actually from the book, same goes for the Lickable Wallpaper intended for Nurseries), led to Wonka remembering the time an Oompa drank the drink, but refused to burp and never came down. If Gene Wilder Wonka found out Dr. Nefario stole the recipe, but didn’t know about an antidote, Nefario would get a C&D notice, and take some of the minions to his factory after having them burp.

It's time to go back to the seasonal scoreboards!
    Where Are You?
    Season 1- 2.9
    Season 2- 2.5
    The New Scooby-Doo Movies
    Season 1- 2.5
    Season 2- 2.6
So, the perception I've gotten is that The New Scooby-Doo movies was more focused on showing off Scooby and the gang hanging out with the random guest star of the week, with the villains effectively being side elements, and thus making their schemes much harder to analyze. Since you just got done going through the series, how true do you think this is, and do you think the show would've been better had it focused more on the villains and their schemes than the guest stars?

    • @JoeGoesOver
      @JoeGoesOver  9 місяців тому +2

That's difficult to answer because 'The New Scooby-Doo Movies' was just an uneven mess when it came to handling their guest stars.
In come episodes they were prominently featured.
In others, they were barely in it.
But the story and villain plots were DEFINITELY an afterthought for most of the series, hence the repeated "bad guy wearing a cloak" disguise as opposed to something that would have required effort.
Frankly, the series would have been better if Hanna-Barbera had focused on story and content, even if the villains themselves took a step back.
So much of it just felt like a cynical cash grab.

      @JoeGoesOver  Місяць тому +1

I dunno. Age and infirmity affects us all differently.
While he had been blind due to his stroke at the time he recorded his lines for 'The Jetson's Movie', he was still twenty years younger than Van Dyke was during the making of 'Guess Who?'.
We're just theorizing here because it's possible the producers asked him to come back and he refused, or he was never asked at all. If he was, Van Dyke could have declined due to health or simply because he didn't want to go through the hassle.
It's not unheard of for voice actors to keep working well into their 80s. Lucille Bliss, the voice of Smurfette, did a role on 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' when she was 89 after all.
It's problematic to complain about an actor not returning to a role, even if it's just for time in a booth. I'm acquainted with a classic animation voice actor who was treated very badly by the studio and won't return to his most famous role. Most fans don't know why and just assume the actor is retired, but they had pretty much abandoned the character by that point.

Perhaps the animators were foreshadowing Assassin's Creed and all the hay bales with everyone jumping into piles of food in this episode.
32:36 I mean, sometimes drug smugglers will have mules ingest their contraband to smuggle it across borders. So if Shaggy really could consume that, he's probably got a great illicit career awaiting if he doesn't want to solve mysteries anymore.

I swear I have some kind of brain ring whenever a new episode is posted, whether I’ve checked my YT or not. You must be on some kind of schedule or something that my internal clock is synced up to.
Genuine question though, do you ever run into issues with copyright violation? I know your videos fall under fair use, but even so I know many creators deal with takedowns regardless. Reason I ask is because I’m doing a podcast with a friend and am hoping we will be able to play 10 second music clips before discussing/ critiquing each song. Just curious about your experience.
On an unrelated note I’m glad someone else is of the opinion that the shows and movies don’t take place in the same universe or even two separate universes. I’ve seen videos on the platform (cough Matpat cough) with some wild claims that are full of holes. In my mind there are a few shared universes (many branching off from Where Are You in some way) but for the most part there’s simply no way they can all be split into one, two, or even five continuity’s.
Fantastic video as always, finishing TNSDM must be a relief. I’m excited to see what the mystery video is, and also for The Scooby Doo Show of course.

It is ABSOLUTELY a relief to put 'The New Scooby-Doo Movies' behind me and I'm looking forward to getting back into the more typical Scooby plotlines hopefully afforded by 'The Scooby-Doo Show'.
Sadly, I run into copyright issues almost every single video. I've discovered if I keep any clips under 10 seconds, UA-cam usually doesn't flag them during the matching stage of an upload. But even that's no guarantee because if I'm not careful and put two clips that were close to each other in the episode next to each other in my video, that will occasionally trigger a match.
Fortunately, I've never received any "strikes" on my channel, which means that while I might lose income on a video, it won't result in my video being removed or my channel taken down.
For what it's worth, I'm a nervous wreck EVERY SINGLE UPLOAD until I get the all clear from UA-cam because every match means another two or three hours of encoding followed by another hour of uploading and running the copyright matching process.
Because UA-cam is all pretty much entirely managed by bots, every Creator deals with stuff like this, even those who don't rely on media produced by other companies. I've seen channels get hit when they upload entirely original music because of shenanigans from copyright trolls.
Being a fan of the old Godzilla movies, it's easier to accept the lack of continuity or shared universes within a franchise.
Toho walked so Hanna-Barbera could run.

The guy was trying to send his own niece, who he raised as a daughter and loves him as a father, in a mental institution just because he didn't want her to inherit his hotel. Doing something so terrible to someone you claim to love i such a sick move, i hated him more then any other villains. Sure the nephew of Captain Moody where technically worst since they where trying to flat out murder their own uncle, but I didn't felt the same way about them because it's never really established how close of a connection they had, Moody didn't even seem that upset and suspected the beforhand wich makes me think they might be kinda of astrained, this time we see the relationship and we get the impression that they have close bond just for him to bettay her later in such a way , it's horrible but that just made hin really work. Onestly I ham less scared of his vampire dosguise than I sm of him as a person. Sure other villains betreayed people close to them like Alice Dovley (the Gator Ghouk) trying to run the people who saw her are a daughter aour of buoisness but that was just finsntial damafe that's much worstm

Here’s my list of Guest Stars that Scooby Doo should have crossover with ether here or anywhere else, I did suggest Mr Bean and Inspector Gadget on but the actors who played them was close enough
    1. Abbot and Costello
    2. Charlie Chan as I have seen him in the Circus movie
    3. Casper the friendly ghost
    4. Spider-Man from the 1967 series as that would be very fitting for this show and the villains would be the Sinister Six that consists of Green Goblin, Dr Octopus, Electro, Vulture,Rhino and Mysterio
    5. Penelope Pitstop and the villain is easy the Hooded Claw
    6. Eugene Levy as he was big 2000’s which he should appeared in the Live Action Scooby Doo movies
    7. Fantastic four as the 60’s show was owned by Hanna-Barbera at the time but I’m sure about Dr Doom as the villain because putting on ghost disguises isn’t really his thing and just like the bad guy from Lethal Weapon 2 he has Diplomatic Immunity.
    8. Jessica Fletcher or Angelina Lansbury
    9. The Beatles
    10. Nicholas Cage
    11. Elvis
    12. Mike Myers as I heard was going to be in the Cancelled Scooby Doo movie that was going to be Directed by Tim Burton
    13. Ghostbusters ether being the Real Ghostbusters or that one that was made by Filmation that nobody remembers or talks about
    14. TMNT as I would have thought that should have done a parody based version of them in Mystery Incorporated as that Twilight parody that Bayler Hotter was playing as a WereTurtle
    15. Clint Eastwood
    16. Eddie Murphy

What annoys me about the green globs outfit is that we have no ifea what they are. Not every monster need to have complicated lore, some like the Space Kook works better by remaining mysterious, but i should at least know what type of creature i am looking at. Are they ghosts? Aliens? Weird mutations? Just strange type of creature naturally made that way? One could say it doesn’t matter since they where fake anyways, but i would argue that if i don't know what type of monster i am looking at how can i be scared? Why i should assume they are anything but men covered in candy if they do not even try to claim they are something else? I would personally consider creating some kind of lore or even context behind the monster an important part of the disguise. Sometimes the backstory can make the monster scarier, like with Ebenezer Crabbe and Dottor Coffin from the series you are about to approach, altough as i said other times keeping the mistery works better.
Yeah the plan was brilliant, but ultimatly not very practical. There is one point that confuses me: when the gabg examinate the candy bars they do not find any gold filling despite breaking the bars, but it's still implied it was there by Saggy and Scooby getting belly ache. However later on when Velma breaks the bar after the reveal, the gold is clearly visible. The franklin reveal was unnecessary yes but i like the fake abduction because it's a good way to trick the gang into thinking that the monster isn't easy to take down in a fight (altough admitedly Franklin is, supposedly, a midle aged man while they are four teens, a dog and a... big adult woman, so it doesn't really mean much, altough we already saw how little does this matter in the Scoobyverse) also the fact that there was only one every time Franklyn showed up kinda gave the whole thing again. Something i do not understand is how velma figured out the rubber mask, it just came out of nowere.
I could have swore there was a point in wich the globs tried to activated some kind of candy machine to fill the room in wich Cass Shaggy and Scooby where in wich could count as attempted murder if true, i do not remember very well tough. Shame that many good schemes got wasted by execution in this series.
The strongman motivation was one of the more patetic ones, as is the costume but at least is better then Carl's by having special effects and being more unique (technically an ape man is also unique... if it wasn't just a gorilla). I would say that the attempted murders actually made it worst for the strongman, because he was taking an buge risk for a poultry motivation, while he could have kept it at least mildly safe but limit it to intimidation. It's a similar logic you used with the Green Ghosts. And as i mentioned the other time, i am still iffy on calling attempted murder actions that are sucessful but do not resort in death, if we see the character taking the damage but surving it means that in the Scoobyverse that's not letal so how we know that the villain was trying to murder there? What we call cartoon physics may just be normal to them. Different deal is with the ballon part since the character act as they need to save them, so is clear that without the ice cream they would have died even in that universe. I aslo wonder how the strong man got inside the caterpillar ride and while his face had not feature at that point.
I can't wait for you takling the Scooby Doo show and i wonder what your other video is gonna be..

As bad and lazy as the Green Globs were, at least they weren't just guys wearing hoods and robes again!
As for the gold not appearing until Velma breaks the bar later, I'd chalk that up to just poor work by the artists. Shaggy and Scooby's stomach issues is enough evidence that the bars they ate were filled with gold powder.
You're not wrong about Velma's declaration of expecting to find a rubber mask. That absolutely came out of nowhere.
Cartoon physics is a definite catch-all for lazy production staff!
As for my next video, it's in the editing stage now, so hopefully it will be up by this weekend. I want to give my Patreon supporters a chance to see it first, but hopefully it'll be fully live by Sunday!

Even with the artists justification, I still wonder how they didn't noticed it the first time since they where specifically looking for something weird inside them. Either the gold was meant to be barely noticable and not the very bright glittering stuff that the artists decided to draw at the end, or it's poor work for the writers too.

Also, are you going to rank the villains for the Scooby-Doo movies and specials?

      I'm not sure yet.
The length of 'The New Scooby-Doo Movies' sort of necessitated fitting just two per video, but now I'm wondering if it would be easier on me to do shorter videos more often, or longer videos but with bigger stretches of time between uploads.
A lot of it depends on what happens when I'm in the middle of the script. Occasionally, an episode will pop up with very little to discuss, whereas another might open up a huge tangent or other rabbit hole for me to descend.
I'm not saying this to be dismissive, but we will literally just have to wait and see.

@@JoeGoesOver we could give a positive that PNSD was a “return to form” type series, with a twist that the Meddling Kids were depicted as literal kids. Although the depiction of Fred is drastically different from what he’s usually known for when being older, it’s likely that Fred Jones was going through a phase that some kids had to deal with. It’s like how Mario’s rivalry with Donkey Kong was much harsher back then, because of how Dangerous DK was considered in the world Mario only knows about, but after the events of DK Jr, Mario has become more balanced in handling things, after realizing just what type of world Mario happens to be in.

56:17: Funnier than those cursed implications they gave us in “Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated” and “Curse of the Lake Monster”; seriously, who’s idea was it to make Shaggy and Scooby into Homosexual Zoophiles, and giving Scooby sexual jealousy over Velma? Will Hanna and Joe Barbera are rolling in their graves by now.

    • @JoeGoesOver

I never took anything in 'Mystery Incorporated' that way. It always felt more like the jealousy a little brother would have when their big brother discovers girls.

@@JoeGoesOver what you see that would be considered that way could be interpreted differently based on the subtext presented to another. “Curse of the Lake Monster” is notorious for having this love triangle subplot, and that the movie ended with Scooby and Shaggy doing that same romcom montage; it would seem harmless in Mystery Begins, but it felt gross upon the implications presented in the sequel. That’s why I’m lumping Lake Monster with Mystery Incorporated, due to both projects being presented in the same era, and why I feel Scooby in Mystery Incorporated would behave the same way.

@@JoeGoesOver I’d be careful with watching anything from Phelous related to the Fred Wolf TMNT series. Although it’s reasonable that he would be upset with how the Fred Wolf series had its moments of stupidity, I don’t like how he would come off as hypocritical when reviewing Turtles Forever and the 2012 Nick Turtles crossovers. Even RowdyC, who did his retrospective on the TMNT’s adventures on TV between 1987 and 2012, would find pros in Turtles Forever outweighing the cons, mostly in the subtle nods and character animation, and how some of the impersonators were doing their best to bring the Fred Wolf Cast to life. I would agree with RowdyC that “Transdimensional Turtles” and “Wanted: Bebop and Rocksteady” are the worst way to do a crossover: that being you expose your bias through your own writing. Let’s say Turtles Forever is like “The Jetsons Meet the Flintstones”; sure, there would be some pros and cons in having two IPs confront each other in some way, but if you did well in understanding the source material, and let the audience decide which of these they like best (not to mention, have some light banter being harmless rather than having two characters of the same alignment get into a physical fight out of pettiness), your project will be remembered for future generations. The 2012 Nick Turtles Crossovers are like the Ian Flynn’s Mega Man and Sonic Archie crossovers; nothing good came out of ridiculing each other out of spite, or having a physical fight over a dumb misunderstanding, and it makes some fans feel alienated.

I am the very very VERY most person in love with all things Hanna-Barbera. Iwao Takamoto is who I modeled my art style after. I love their shows SO MUCH including this series... but they are not without their faults. I love this show a lot but the Mama Cass episode has got to be one of my least favourite. Not only of Scooby-Doo, but all of television. It's so needlessly cruel. Maybe I'm biased from Being 340 pounds myself, a d humour back then was different, but it's just too much h. As an aside, I wonder why the green goo monsters weren't supposed to be taffy or something, rather than cotton candy.

    • @JoeGoesOver
      @JoeGoesOver  9 місяців тому +1

In general, I don't mind "cruel" humor as long as it's not punching down.
Poor Mama Cass, though, even at the time this episode was produced, was on record discussing the issues she had with her weight and the health problems her crash diets caused her, but the Scooby writers were like, "Eh. So what? Let's make fun of her anyway!"
This is easily the worst episode of the series for that, and even if I wasn't, uh, "Rubenesque" myself, I hope I'd still realize just how wrong all the jokes at Cass' expense were.

@@MorganMeryl Speaking of the Iwao Takamoto artstyle, what are your thoughts on a Little Nemo TV series going by this “toonified rotoscope” artstyle? I honestly felt it suited Nemo more when I saw the 1984 pilot that predated “Adventures in Slumberland”, the latter of which had an artstyle more akin to Tokyo Movie Shinsha’s more Americanized Projects in Animaniacs and Tiny Toon Adventures.

    • @MorganMeryl

@robbiewalker2831 not sure if you are talking directly to me or to him.
I've never seen the final film so I can't speak comparatively, but the 1984 clip I watched looked beautiful. Not sure what else to say other than that. Definitely there were some moments of arm movement with the characters I thought looked great. Very fluid movement.
As an aside disclaimer though.... I absolutely adore that old Hanna-Barbera art style and it made the basis of my own style for a while, but ultimately recently I decided to switch back to my old art style as I felt it fit me better. Not sure if this colours your view of me or not, if you were talking to me. But I figured I should mention it just in case. ^__^; and apologies if you weren't commenting on my comment at all.

@@MorganMeryl It’s alright; as stated before, I felt the toonified rotoscope artstyle complimented Nemo more than the exaggerated cartoony style that Tokyo Movie Shinsha did in the finalized film; what I didn’t bring up is that the TMS’ design reminds me more of Buddy from Looney Tunes, specifically his debut design… funny how TMS’ Nemo looked like Buddy’s first design, yet the design TMS went with, when doing Animaniacs, was from “Buddy’s Beer Garden”.
I also saw model sheets highlighting 6 of the Little Nemo characters: Nemo, Princess Camille, Doctor Pill, Flip, Nemo’s Dad, and Slivers; Slivers was called Omen during development (probably because Slivers name was rarely mentioned in the comics), but he definitely resembled one of the Nemo characters from the comics; and given that I found one of the few comics where Slivers/Splinters made a functional machine, it’s likely Omen is Slivers with a different name, and also created his version of the Wright Glider used in the Pilot film. The model sheets (specifically one of Camille’s sheets) also used the 50s Disney style characters like Alice Lindell and Wendy Darling as reference for the art direction they were going for at the time, which would’ve been a smart move, not only because Iwao Takamoto was involved with some of the Disney projects, but going for that artstyle helps to find a middle ground in retrospect, and not alienate the audience who aren’t familiar with the characters from a near-century old newspaper comic.
It doesn’t hurt to stick with your own style, but man, can you imagine Nemo having the same type of art style that Scooby-Doo and 50s Disney was going with.
BTW, you can actually check out the whole film on TMS’ own UA-cam channel.
