If I recall, the cartoon versions of the Globetrotters were a competitive team, so kind of works...on a side note; dribbling a ball out the window of a moving bus is downright superhuman
@@Buzz-McCool i know but what I meant was I always think of Professor Bubblegum from Futurama when the Globetrotters are brought up as that was how I was introduced to them. And then my second thought is the Krusty clip. Sorry.
17:32 - I WAS THINKING THE SAME THING! If the villains had pointed masks, it would make them look like... well.. you know. Doesn't help that the fact that the Globetrotters are involved in this episode.
The 1960s and 1970s were a very complicated time for people who wanted to dress up in white hoods and robes. I'm not saying the Scorpions' owner, coach and trainer weren't bad guys, but I'd like to think they weren't THAT bad...
Interesting. I haven't personally read 'Tom Sawyer' since probably elementary school so I can't remember a lot about it. Mark Twain is one of those writers I like more for his legacy than the actual content of his works. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Really can't wait to get to This Scooby-Doo show because the villains are definitely a bit better there and the more modern shows like what's new and mystery Incorporated if you do those❤ anyway keep up the good work you've been making my day
Thank you. I'm actually looking forward to getting to that series, too, but mainly to put 'The New Scooby-Doo Movies' behind me. These first two episodes of Season Two were... painful. Thanks for watching and commenting! The script has been started on Part Two!
I loved the Globetrotters and Josie and the Pussycats episodes as they seemed organically part of the Scooby Universe. The characters meshed well and it still felt like a genuine Scooby-Doo episode. Many of the celebs and Batman and Robin threw off the feel to me and it came off as odd or awkward. I would imagine since they are both H-B toons that were very similar to Scooby-Doo would be the reason for that. It is too bad that they were bogged down with terrible plots and shoddy animation. Just as an aside, I usually sleep with my feet outside the blankets, as long as my neck and my shoulders are covered - the rest hangs out...lol As always, I love your content and tell all my friends, it is amazing to find a community for someone who was just born when these movies were created who loves Scooby-Doo as much as I and feel no shame. Keep being you!
Thank you very much for the nice comments! In the summer I will occasionally sleep with one leg outside the covers if I get warm enough, but what kind of insane person would do that in a haunted mansion? If anything, you sleep fully clothed so you can run away at a moment's notice when the spooky stuff starts! Of course, once the Globetrotters landed, they were able to pull their shoes out from whatever pocket dimension they use to store their infinite supply of basketballs because in the very next scene they all had their sneakers on. Josie and the Pussy Cats probably meshed so well with the Scooby Gang because Hanna-Barbera already treated the band as just another group of kids roaming the world solving mysteries. Thanks for watching and subscribing!
I've been watching / listening to these videos while I sleep and then here I am and I hear "who sleeps with their feet is sticking out from underneath their cover" meanwhile im over here with my feet sticking out from underneath my covers trying to sleep listening to this.
I should have been more specific shouldn't I? I should have said, "Who sleeps with BOTH feet sticking out from underneath their cover?", because as we all know, on some nights, one foot sticking out is the perfect way to regulate body temperature! Thanks for watching and commenting! I just hope you don't hear my voice in your dreams.
@@JoeGoesOver oh no, I had. Both my feet sticking out. And its funny you should say that because one night the one with... I believe Mama Cass? The one in the candy factory ended up actually worming its way into my dream so I was listening to it while hiking in my dream.
A lot of people seem to share that sentiment! Perhaps someday, when Disney finally manages to acquire every single property out there (and before they change their name to Weyland-Yutani), they'll give us the Scooby x Ghostbusters movie! Thanks for watching and commenting!
the Globetrotters are such good guest stars, always enjoy the episodes they are in though this one is my least fave of the 3 they are in, loved the Josie and the Pussycats episode they were good guest stars aswell and loved the setting. Great video, looking forward to watching the rest of season 2
Always happy to see a new episode pop up in my feed! Man, The New Scooby-Doo Movies seems a LOT rougher than I remember it being, but you've done a great job making them palatable. Can't wait for you to clear this and get back to quality Scooby!
Thank you for your kind words! I'm a little over halfway done with the script for the next video, so definitely starting to see a light at the end of tunnel some way ahead. It's still going to be a slog, but it's there. It's... DEFINITELY there... Oh, god. Please let it be there! Thanks for watching!
In the bed-trap door curly in the armour scene, there's a little woosh that I always assumed was supposed to symbolize the culprit escaping the bed, they just never showed opening the trap door underneath.
You're more forgiving than I am. Hell, the sound editors on the early Scooby series couldn't even get the laugh track levels properly set! I imagine it more likely that any "whoosh" sound you heard was due to the tech having his finger on the wrong button at the wrong time! Thanks for watching and commenting!
That's from 'The Time Trap', an episode of 'Star Trek: The Animated Series' (1973). I just always got a kick out of how Shatner butchers "sabotage". SAB-OH-TAJ!
the globetrotters said they had the basketballs under the bed, not in it, which could explain why the balls aren't shown before they fell through the trap door, and it's possible the balls fell as the door was opening but the bed hadn't finished splitting, so that might be why we didn't see them while the globetrotters were falling
None of the scenes featuring the bed show any basketballs underneath it, though. It would be physically impossible for six basketballs to be hidden below without at least one being visible. I stand by my assertion that the Globetrotters were literal basketball wizards who could pull balls out of a pocket dimension accessible only to them! Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@JoeGoesOver the first point could be due to how there were many shortcuts taken when making the episode. the bed was wide enough for all the globetrotters to lay in it, so while the bed might not be high enough, it seems wide enough for all the balls to fit.
Thank you very much! It almost feels silly to hear it put that way, but yeah, there's definitely some passion here. I hope you watch my future stuff, too!
Another almost hour long video! Cant wait to watch it. Im convinced the mansion in the globe trotters episode is just haunted at this point.... theres WAY too much that happens with 0 explanation for it not to be....
That'd be yet ANOTHER coincidence the Scorpion's owner needed to get his plan to work! Coincidence #8 - Find a mansion that is already haunted. Thanks for watching and commenting!
It's amazing how crazy the country can get over a TV show when there are literally just three channels to watch primetime series. Speaking of watching, thanks for doing so and commenting!
I'm hard of hearing, but I got what I call magnetized hearing. It's easier for me to hear machines and other mechanical sounds than other noises. I heard that film projector the very first time, and I'm proud of that.
I mean, it's THERE to hear but it's subtle. Usually for important clues like this, the Scooby writers would have mentioned it a few times or it would have occurred at every instance of the ghosts' appearances. Thanks for watching and commenting!
i notice alot of audio issues in these later episodes, in the Dick Van Dyke episode, there is a part where Velma and Dick Van Dyke are talking and dick's voice is being heard but velmas mouth is moving.
I chalk this up to the incredible pressure Hanna-Barbera was working under at the time to produce all the shows they were contractually obligated to provide to the networks. However, they could have solved this by hiring more people rather than putting so much pressure on the ones already working for them. Thanks for watching, commenting and subscribing!
Let's just say it's an inadvertent Easter Egg, and possibly making for a story that only I would find interesting. Sorry for the mystery, but thank you for watching and commenting!
I'd say "Inquiring minds want to know!" but that would only make me sound even more like an ancient GenXer who would recognize the commercial. Thanks for watching, commenting and subscribing!
The Scorpions Team Owners should have gotten a D.O.O Score of 2.2, not a 2.7. I have calculated it. The same is applied to the Captain and Joe. 1.5 instead of 1.8.
Good catch on the math on the first! Whoops! But the second is still 1.8 unless I'm missing something (2+2+1.5=5.5; 5.5/3=1.8) Thanks for watching and commenting!
There is one episode in a later series I'm looking forward to considering how often I've referenced a character in it, but I don't know yet how that will play out when I get to it. I would like to hit the Scooby renaissance films, if nothing else. Those four late-90s films reinvigorated my love of the franchise, after all! Thanks for watching and commenting.
I didn't like 'Space Jam' the first time around, so I never got 'round to seeing the second. But yeah, the Globetrotters would have made more sense with their history of thinking outside the box when it comes to what happens on the court. They would have meshed better with the Looney Tunes gang, that's for certain! Then again, gotta sell those shoes! Thanks for watching and commenting!
It really does sound like a generic town name where people just gave up trying to come up with something clever. I live in an area know for having a ridiculous number of lakes, and many of them are just called "Mud Lake", presumably because who has time to come up with something unique, right? Thanks for watching and commenting!
There's an interesting story behind that. At least, I think it's interesting. I may go over it some day. For now, let's just call it an inadvertent Easter Egg. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Sadly, it's going to be a bit. I'm encoding the next episode now (which takes several hours, unfortunately), and barring any UA-cam content match shenanigans, I hope to have it up by the end of tomorrow. That leaves two more videos to round out 'The New Scooby-Doo Movies' and possibly another Scooby-related video that I'm contemplating before starting 'The Scooby Doo Show'. Sooo... November/December, maybe? Remember: I'm just one person! Thanks for your enthusiasm! And for watching and commenting!
If shaggy was pizza, then he would be bell pepper because I’m amount of green that he wears for his shirt and pants. The shirt could be bell peppers and the crust.😂😂😂😂😂
Great ranking! I've seen The Haunted Showboat episode but not the Haunted Island one so I'm doing my ranking based on this video Also I burst into laughter when you brought up F****** Carl the Stuntman as I've been saying that quote to my boyfriend all day Anyways my ranking goes 1) Hooded Ghosts 2) Ghost of Captain Scavenger and Friend
@JoeGoesOver you have no idea how much I love the Carl the Stuntman gag lol. I rewatched the episode a few days ago just so I had an excuse to keep going "F****** Carl the Stuntman" lol No problemo thank you for the incredible content as always!
@@tfordham13 yeah the episode with Jeannie would be in the next part and when I said interesting, how do you factor actual supernatural things into the plot considering that some doo and we’re brought down because of the creatures costumes when you use real supernatural creatures that throws a lot of the rules out the window
The script I'm working does touch on this, and while it's generally considered to be the first time a Scooby show features actual supernatural beings, I'd be remiss not to point out that the Addams Family episode from the previous season featured antics that would likely be considered "supernatural", in particular Thing. Thanks for watching, commenting and subscribing!
@@JoeGoesOver that’s true but I mean the first time Scooby actually fight in supernatural opponent after all the villains from the Addams family, where basically moral guardians don’t want children around what they considered not normal
This sounds like a no-brainer, except 'Scooby-Doo' is owned by Warner Bros while 'Ghostbusters' is owned by Sony. We'd have to have a situation where one of the studios licenses their property to the other, similar to how Sony allowed Spider-Man into the MCU. I can't really see that happening, to be honest. But if it does, fingers crossed Sony gives it to Warner Bros and not vice versa, since Sony cannot be trusted to do Scooby justice. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Another great video - you always make me crack up at least a few times during each one. 🙂 Low villian score notwithstanding, The Haunted Showboat is one of my favorites from this series. The crossover with Josie and the Pussy Cats made for a fun episode with a good amount of levity. This Globetrotters episode ranks in the middle of their 3 appearances. Definitely a step up from the one with the pirates, but not as good as The Lochness Mess.
I've always enjoyed Archie Comics, so seeing Josie and her friends was nice. But man, that Melody. I know just how Velma must have felt! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Just watched a Harlem Globetrotter special showing them meeting up and playing for military families. They have not only a woman on the team, but a dwarf as well!
The way the animators drew Pablo in his third appearance, the team already had a little person in their ranks! Thanks for watching, commenting and subscribing!
37:20 In a way, it did. Mark Twain had earlier written an unpublished memoir, which was used as source material for the book. Of course I doubt he ever ran into a Native American criminal, but some allowances must be made.
Imagine designing a whole operation to make your competitor lose a single game by denying them sleep. The bad guys deserved worse for that, cause denying your fellow human beings the right to sleep is like suffocating them with pillows so they would asphyxiate to death. They shall indeed fall to their knees. I hope they did end up getting arrested after the game ended, cause we all know the Mafia, if involved, would not have been merciful 😖
The Big difference between Scooby Doo and Heidi and The Yodel-I mean Josie and the Pussycats is that unlike Scooby doo, The Villains The Pussycats fought are just Straight up Supervillains who Hatch Over-the-top Schemes to Take over the World or Getting Rich.
Yeah, to be fair, few of the Scooby villains in this era pursue anything more than small-time criminal schemes. They can't all be Professor Pericles! Thanks for watching and commenting!
With one possible video exception, the plan is to hit 'The Scooby-Doo Show' next. I won't rule out the *grim face* Scrappy years, but those are a ways away. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Thank you for your nice words! I would obviously love to hit the latter series at some point, but these are a bit time consuming to produce, so it will be a while. Thanks for watching!

THe scorpions did rely on coincidence but not that much. They rigged the mansion and boat long before the Globetrotters got there. The only trick was switching the signs to only get the Globetotters on the wrong boat. That the Globetrotters and Scooby gang all showed up at the same shack that the gang member keeping an eye out for the Globetrotters approach fate was on their payroll. I have a wacky idea. When you run out of Scooby villians to rank how about the crooks who dress up in the Three Stooges?
Thanks for the suggestion, but while I like the Three Stooges, they're a bit out of my bailiwick for covering. As you can guess from having watched my video, I'm going to have to disagree with the coincidence thing. There were too many ways the Globetrotters wouldn't have arrived on that island without all the steps I outlined. Thanks for watching and commenting!
That's the plan so far, but I might be taking a slight detour just as a change of pace after I finish 'The New Scooby-Doo Movies'. It'll still be Scooby-related, but I haven't fully committed to that. If I don't work on that idea, then yeah, 'The Scooby-Doo Show' should be next on the docket. Thanks for watching and commenting!
We should never question why we liked some things as a child, especially the bad stuff, because we were still learning the difference! Thanks for watching, commenting and subscribing!
The Josie and the Pussycats movie was *not* great. But the soundtrack was a banger. I still listen to it. This is still one of my favorite episodes of the Movies.
2:09: In Carl’s case, it doesn’t make sense to sabotage the film, if he’s playing the title character. 17:39: I didn’t mind the thumbnail you went with before with the ghostly redcoat, because I know he doesn’t look like a clansman. And you made the right call to go with Captain Moody for this video. 50:01: Seems logical. Scooby and Shaggy do specialize in different recipes. Perhaps the gang wouldn't mind those two in being personal chefs. 50:51: Why does Scooby’s animation look like it was animated by a computer?
Yea that's another point fo Carl's stupidity. He says that he wants to play the lead, but in a monster movie the monster is the star, nobody care for the lead human. It's true that nobody wpuld recognize him on film but still, he has the main role.
I think I see what you mean about Scooby's animation looking odd at that moment. It feels like they used more frames than usual to animate him, which is weird considering that would cost more money and the last thing Hanna-Barbera ever wanted to do was spend money. I don't know about you, but the last thing I would want would to have Shaggy or Scooby cook for me. You've seen what they put on their pizzas, right? Chocolate is my absolute favorite thing that goes in my mouth, but using it as a pizza topping is going too far! Thanks for watching, commenting and subscribing!
@@JoeGoesOver You think Shaggy and Scooby are bad chefs, wait until you see the recipes for Pizza Toppings in the Fred Wolf TMNT series (1/3 of which was presented in Cinemassacre's TMNT Pizza Taste Test). For example, what the 4Kids Crossover with the Fred Wolf iterations did (that Viacom with their 2012 Nick Turtles didn't do, outside of Portal Power) was to include a new Fred Wolf TMNT style pizza topping idea: Sauerkraut, Tuna Fish, Pretzels, and Jelly Beans. Pretzels and Jelly Beans, I don't mind, but Sauerkraut and Tuna Fish?
I agree on the Globetrotters episode here because it’s not even a mystery since we found out halfway to who is behind all this and the rest of it is just Scooby and the gang helping them win the game and this is the only time that the villains aren’t arrested which we see what happened after the Scorpions lost because wouldn’t it be hard to get them charged for sabotage because who would the police believe, I don’t think the team players of the Scorpion about the owner, coach and trainer’s plan anyway it’s not like Space Jam where they stole their talent. I like that Godfather reference there and the Waltons because George Bush made a speech that all families should be more like the Waltons and a lot less like the Simpsons and Scooby Doo did a Waltons parody, yeah that is odd that Scooby and Shaggy pray because they never go to church and in the Red Baron episode they did mention Adam and Eve, also what did Dallas had to do with this video? 23:33 where is that from? As for the Josie and the Pussycats I think that they ever trying to red herrings when the captain is trying to be nice like that undercover agent was supposed to be that greedy real estate agent and I was starting to that when you brought up Dr Jekyll as the other villain is based on Tom Sawyer’s book. You know when Scooby is stealing food you should call him a bad dog from Guardians of the galaxy 3 where he did say bad dog and also I forgot to mention that if you saw Creed 3 Damien Anderson was also Sabotaging the game to get ahead.
Rhonda Shear hosted a bad movie show on the USA network back in the day called "Up All Night" which also later included Gilbert Gottfried. Her catchphrase was that lilting "Up all night!" moment. I haven't watched any of the later Rocky film stuff. I think the last one I saw was the fourth one where Rocky beat up Russia. In the 1980s, the 'Dallas' TV show was a sensation and when an early season ended on a cliffhanger involving the main character getting shot, the whole country seemed obsessed with the question "Who shot J.R.?" Thanks for watching and commenting!
Right now I see 3 episodes where the villain Might Get a 4 out of 5. episode's 4, 6 and 7 but I do not know (good thing that season 2 only has 8 episodes)
i had a dvd that only had the globetrotter episodes and idk why or how i owned such a thing or why someone paid like 15 bucks for 2 episodes....idk man
Cynical cash grabs, really. The Scooby franchise is filled with cheap, bargain-bin compilation releases. I've never been a fan of that. I want all my episodes in one spot, in the order in which they aired and without any needless cuts. Thanks for watching and commenting!
That first episode has always been really interesting to me. It's another example of The New Scooby-Doo Movies feeling like a bunch of ideas were thrown together without much thought or reason. Oddly enough, if this wasn't Scooby-Doo, but instead a show where hauntings did exist and there didn't have to be an attempt at an explanation at the end, a lot of the imagery and creepy stuff in the haunted house is actually pretty interesting. If the show was about ghost hunters and the animation wasn't so rushed, a lot of the episode would make for good material.
You absolutely hit the nail on the head there. So many of these episodes have felt like the guys in the writers' room came up with random things the Gang or celebrity guests could do and then just tried finding a way to link them together. Or just linked them together and didn't really try. Though, to be fair, plenty of Shaggy and Scooby's actions in the older 'Where Are You?' series also seemed a bit like filler, particularly whenever they were making snacks. It just wasn't as obvious because those episodes were half the length and thus needed far less filler. Thanks for watching, commenting and subscribing!
The next villain would be the first genuinly supernatural one. I am curious to how are you going to rate him expecially in the outfit score. He doesn’t have any disguise since he has an actual supernatural creature under his control. He should technically get an 1 since he doesn’t wear a costume but i don't think it's fair since he doesn’t really need one if he has a genuine monster at his disposal. So would you rate the monster's design and powers? Give him a neutral score? (Disclamer i have only read some info about the episode, i have yet to watch it so it's possible he is wearing some kind of disguise at some points but i don't think that's the case. In general i don't know if i agree to penalize villains if they chose to not rely on props instead of disguises. A lot of villain in future installments expecially what's new would do that (haunted toys, halloween jack o lanterns, skeletal driver, ozmonds, snow creature ecc.) sometimes to great effect, or sometimes the costume is just accessory and the prop is the main focus of the scare plan like with the no face zombie and the gorilla, is clear wich one was meant to be scare and wich was just to conceal his own identity, nd stuff like that already ahppened here and in the second Don Knot's episode. I get it's an oitfit score and cotumes are what Scooby Doo is best known for but I don't think that chosing a different way of scaring people should be automatically penalized if it still gets the job done. As for this video, in the previous episode you still gave point at the minutman for the special effects even if they wheren't explained. The lack of explaination really tipped you off that much this time?
I beleive joe put everything encompasing props into the operation score, though you are correct that the props should be more seriosuly factored into the outfit espically if said props are meant to be the main threat like the haunted toys or the osomons.
I'm writing the script for that episode currently, so I won't really know until I finish. Sometimes it's an instant response on my part; other times I have to go over it in my head a while and argue with myself. There have been times when I was just about ready to start recording after finishing the script only to have a last-minute change of heart and completely revamp the score. Thanks for watching and commenting!
It's not a hard and steady rule, but yeah, I do try to keep props separated from the outfits during the rating. I generally feel that what makes a Scooby villain a SCOOBY VILLAIN is their use of disguises, so props can help but unless it's a particularly odd situation, they shouldn't be included in the score.
I probably have a different perception of this because the series i grew up with was What's New and if you notice there was a good chunck of episodes that didn't feature a disguise but had the villains use remot controlled robots, elettronic chips, glowing animals, a simulation or even nothing at all, the monester was an actual creature and rhe villain was just doing his own thing (that episode would be so weird to rate i feel) so scooby villains not using disguises was a semi normal occurrence to me, but now that I have a bigger picture of the franchise i see your point. I hope you would still gave credits to those kind of villain as well. Edit: thinking about it ypu already ran into a villain that was not a disguise, Charlie and you rated the design of the robot there so I think you would do something similar as well but only in cases where there is no moster disguises at all (in some of those the villain whore some kind of mask or hood but that's not really a disguise in the scooby doo sense)
Just for fun i made a list of What's New episodes that do not have a costume (counting robots that have the villain inside as costumes as you said you would do) There's No Creature Like Snow Creature It's Mean, It's Green, It's the Mystery Machine Safari, So Good Toy Scary Boo High-Tech House of Horrors (this one doesn't even feature an human villain) Scooby-Doo Halloween Large Dragon at Large Go West, Young Scoob (this one arguably doesn't feature a villain at all exept for a guy messing things up by complete accident, that one would be very hard to rank) Gentlemen, Start Your Monsters! Reef Grief! E-Scream (that's another one in wich while there is a culprit he can't really be called a villain) I was about to include 3-D Struction but while the villains aren't captured inside the robot It's implied they did drove it. Also Mummy Scares best is a funny example because the villain didn't whore the disguise but he ipnotized someone else to wear it. I also add some from Mistery Incorporated the other series i am the most familiar, just because. There are a few here ad well. Howl of the Fright Hound Escape from Mystery Manor (actually there isn't even a prop or an attempt to pretend there is anything supernatural. Just a bunch of deadly traps) Wrath of the Krampus (but there was a disguise... for a remote controlled robot. Also side not that episode was one of my favourite ever and i have a feeling in avdance that this "villain" (actually... the Scooby Gang) would get a 5. The scheme was brilliant and definitly worty due to the stakes at play and the minimal risk since the police was on their side, the Krampus costume for Charlie was original and creepy and the execution was so perfect that they flat out succed. If that's end up being the case it would be so funny that the scooby doo gang where better villains then many of the actual villains) The Midnight Zone The Horrible Herd And then the three final episodes. When the Cicada Calls and Art of Darkness are really weird cases since there was a remote controll something in both cases but the villain was still conveniently found inside the monster in time for the unmasking for some reasons. And Hodag of Horrors Has once again the villain making someone, i this case a monkey wear the disguise for him. Also i counted plastic surgery from The Man in the Mirror and magical transformation from Nightmare in Red as disguises.
They did a revival series some time ago, but I couldn't even begin to guess what cable channel or stream service it was on. Thanks for watching and commenting! Also, interesting user name!
I wish I could say the same. The really bad animation was almost a deal-breaker for me, though it did seem the Globetrotters had more to do this time around. But there's no harm in liking what we like! Hell, I enjoy 'Kung Pow! Enter the Fist' and it has a 13% on Rotten Tomatoes! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Oof that first episode is definitely the roughest yet and only Joe's commentary makes it bearable. Also I'm incredibly Surprised that Daphne "Shot" made it in, guess it just slipped through the cracks. And as a NA myself personally I just find it hilarious that my people are portrayed as F tier Scooby villains they could at least gave us cooler "villain" designs like a Skinwalker or my personal favorite a Wendigo.
hell, i'm surprised neither a skin walker or a wendigo was used as a scooby monster period. Maybe the latter because of the cannibalism connections, but not so much the skinwalker. In fact the only non-ghost native american monster in scooby doo history I can recall is the totem spirit from Pup Named Scooby Doo.
I'd like to see better representation in the older stuff as well, as long as the producers never go "Bone Tomahawk"... Thanks for watching and commenting!
The bald jokes are hilarious to me, and like that’s about the only redeeming quality about the ugly poorly written sloppily produced third episode of the Harlem Globetrotters. Don’t ask me, I just thought you bringing up the bald jokes was funny, especially that third one about the lack of a mirror 😂😂
Thanks for the kind words! I, too, have watched Scooby my entire life, even in the early days when I begged the grownups to turn it off because I was scared to death of the show! Thanks for watching and subscribing!
Don't be putting your looks down Joe!! Mrs. Joe obviously adores you!! There seems to be some stray voices coming from your video between 23:06 and 23:10. Something about bookstack and the year 1987. The freaking out over "Clan" costumes, the name of a classic character from one of our greatest authors, and insinuations about The Globetrotters being treated poorly by townsfolk of the early 70s is really getting on my nerves! I wish YT would stop freaking out over nothing and accept that the world isn't always going to be padded with mattresses and the sky filled with rainbows all the time! You're correct in that the Globetrotters would have had no problem finding either accommodations (even deluxe ones) and a practice gym at any time. They were respected legends just about anywhere they went - even in foreign countries! Is it really a surprise a Globetrotter could be 5'8? Spud Webb didn't do too badly during his time in the NBA. The only way I can figure the hands and shoes being visible until the men walk to the door is if they were wearing black clothing (and perhaps a ski mask) at night in a dark unlit setting - and only become somewhat visible when they are near a source of light. RE: The Pussycats being back from outer space: Personally, that show was so bad, I always liked to think it was a bad dream of Sebastian's after having eaten some bad tuna! The original show was a lot of fun even though it wasn't true to the original comics and unlike the Scooby gang, they fought Bond level villains out to take over the world! With the faux antagonist/Treasury agent, I think it was an early case of "subverting expectations". We're supposed at boo and hiss at him and assume he's either responsible for the strange activities or at least a dishonest jerk who get thwarted somehow thanks to the kids' actions. I remember as a kid this was considered an awesome crossover!! Both HB gangs together!! I am a bit disappointed that they seemed to cancel each other out at times (and of course Casey Kasem voicing both Shaggy and Alex - similar characters, same mannerisms except that Alex's voice was a bit deeper.)
Him freaking out over it seems to be more of him actually caring about not hurting people's feelings also i brought up the klan thing in the last episode tho more as a joke
Unfortunately, Mrs. Joe has notoriously terrible taste in men, but I appreciate the sentiment regardless! While my pointing out various things that didn't age well is not going to be everyone's cup of tea, it's something I can't help but notice as an adult this far into the 21st century. Some things are more glaring than others, and while I don't go into these things looking for stuff like that, I will likely call it out when it's obvious. A lot of my analysis also includes looking at things from a historical perspective both from the characters themselves and the people who produced the show. This is why I will usually try to include dollar amounts adjusted for inflation where necessary. $500 doesn't sound like a lot to us today, for example, but that would be over $3,500 if we adjusted for today's money. I know going into these things that talking about stuff like how common racism was in the early 1970s (or rather, how OPEN it seemed to be) isn't going to be appreciated by everyone. One of my non-Scooby video series for example, "Movies That Aged Like Milk", gets a lot of views but also a LOT of dislikes. If I'm being charitable, plenty of the negative feelings stems from the idea that past filmmakers should not be judged with modern eyes, though it's also possible a lot of people just miss the days when a goofy comedic character can try to r*** a sleeping woman and still be the "hero" of the film. I'm not surprised that a basketball player could be 5'7"; I just think it's hilarious that they would draw Pablo looking like a little person when in real life he wasn't that much shorter than the tallest of his teammates. At least, that was what I was trying to get across when showing their heights and pointing out that there was an awful lot of height disparity between Pablo and Gip when it was really just 13 inches. In previous Globetrotter appearances, he was drawn at a more natural height than how he was here. There's a story about that stray dialogue, but it will have to wait for another time! Thanks for watching, commenting and subscribing!
I didn't take it as a serious criticism, but it's one of those things that once you see it, you can't unsee it. Like James Bond's mouth on the cover of 'Goldeneye'.
It would, especially if it was the Real Ghostbusters. Sadly, we're talking properties owned by competing studios, so it is unlikely to ever officially happen. Thanks for watching and commenting!
That Kevin Costner snippet is from 'The Critic', a classic primetime animated series from the early 1990s. The show starred Jon Lovitz as the titular film critic and was created by two ex-Simpsons writers. Every episode featured a few short movie parodies, including "JFK" which I sampled for my video. There's a famous episode of The Simpsons that guest-starred the character and Matt Groening was so angry about being forced to do that he had his name removed from the opening credits in protest. Thanks for watching and commenting!
At 8:42 I was going to ask if every house in the 70s had to have a native american statue as some reparations war but after the second movie... was one of the writers descendant from general Custard? Have native americans been portrayed s normal people in this show? Its always savage monster ghost or decorative clutter. Also wow, H&B are drilling into the bedrock of my expectations at this point. Are Alex and Alan total rip offs because: A) They could recycle animation. B) They wanted brand recognition and fooling kids to watch scooby doo 2 C) All of the above Why, oh why were they so lazy! They just put sunglasses on Shaggy and made Fred go to the gym. Why not just port over the original characters into Josie and the Pussycats seeing as they had the legal rights. Also I just realized that Captain Caveman and J&PC are separate shows.
From the 1950s all the way to the 1980s, westerns were very popular in American pop culture so it was common to see Native-American iconography show up everywhere. Sadly, they were almost exclusively treated as "savages" or other negative stereotypes. Hell, a popular playground game was "Cowboys and Indians" where kids could recreate the range wars of the late-1800s, but usually whoever ended up being the "Indians" were expected to lose. Later on Native-Americans are treated with more respect by the producers, but that's still a ways off. To be fair, the Josie characters actually predate the Scooby Gang. I think rather than either property aping the other, they were just playing with popular stereotypes: the jock, the cheerleader, the brainy girl, the comic relief, etc. Of course, by this point Hanna-Barbera were just following a trend, though at least this time it was a trend they began. Thanks for watching and commenting!
That's hard to pin down as I'm more of a Marvel guy and even back as a teenager when I was a regular comic buyer, it was mostly Marvel stuff that I picked up. If I had to pick a DC hero, it's probably Batman (based on my bookshelf), but mostly by default as it's his villains that I find most interesting. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@JoeGoesOver okay thanks for your tip and I to like batman mostly for his routes and sidekicks although I will never forgive you for calling the joker from the batman 2004 a bad adaptation 😡
The whole Globetrotter basketball game/ice cube montage is annoying filler. This episode is probably the worst in the series. I can't remember any other one being this awful.
It was absolutely a slog to get through, that's for certain, and possibly one of my least favorite as well. Though the earlier episode featuring the Globetrotters versus Redbeard wasn't exactly 'Citizen Kane', either. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Lately I’ve been watching the episodes I know your going to be covering beforehand and boy oh boy the second season is a stinker. Somehow the plots are even more nonsensical and uninteresting. I just watched the Jeannie episode last night and it was the weirdest mix of bizarre and uncomfortable. Excited to see your reaction, and also sorry that you’re subjecting yourself to this season. Not sure if you’ve seen the Scooby Doo Show but if you do plan to cover it look forward to the Ghost of Dr Coffin. He’s one to watch out for. Great video as always, glad to see I’m not the only one who saw those white hoods and went wtf.
Thank you for watching and commenting! It's been painful, that's for certain. But the end is approaching, thankfully! It's more or less a given that I'll be covering 'The Scooby-Doo Show', but I've been giving some thought to hitting something else first, just as a palate cleanser from this series, but I haven't decided yet.
Oof, these villains had a rather worse showing than many of their predecessors. They tried, bless 'em, but no gold stars today. Once again though, you have caused me to give a little more credit than I would have on a gut reaction; the plot to rig the basketball game had more plausibility than I would have imagined.
Yeah, I couldn't believe they let that one slip through. QC are just bad letters to get stuck with in Scrabble as far as the Scooby producers are concerned! Thanks for watching and commenting!

Sorry for the annoyance. Few viewers of any medium enjoy ads. Unfortunately, I have little to no control over their placement and duration. There was a time when a channel creator could adjust how and when the ads appear, but UA-cam has taken a lot of that control away from us. My understanding is that even if we refrain from monetizing a video, UA-cam will still run ads. Regardless, thanks for watching!
At the time I'm writing this, the script and filming is done and I'm 3/4 of the way through editing. Barring any UA-cam shenanigans, I hope to have it uploaded within a couple of days. Sadly, I'm using a beta version of Premiere to help get around some audio issues, but doing so has also introduced some other delays. Thanks for watching and commenting!
If I recall, the cartoon versions of the Globetrotters were a competitive team, so kind of works...on a side note; dribbling a ball out the window of a moving bus is downright superhuman
If the Globetrotters were any more superhuman, they'd be a bad guy in a mask!
Thanks for watching and commenting!
The Globetrotters were super heroes in one of the cartoons@@JoeGoesOver
My first thought is Futurama's parody of it and also Krusty the Clown betting against the Globetrotters. So happy you used that clip.
How could I NOT?
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Krusty the Clown is on The Simpsons, not Futurama.
I think it's noticeable that all of the Globetrotters' enemies are completely white. Coincidence? I think not.
They should've had a Harlem Globetrotters - Three Stooges crossover. Curly meets Curly!
That'd have been a great idea!
As a kid I always thought his name was engine Joe. I didn't know anything about native American slurs at the time of course.
Ah, the glorious naivete of youth.

Fun Fact: Tom Sawyer was a real person. Twain named him after a Fireman he met in San Francisco.
Interesting.
I haven't personally read 'Tom Sawyer' since probably elementary school so I can't remember a lot about it.
Mark Twain is one of those writers I like more for his legacy than the actual content of his works.

Speed-Buggy also work too.
I love Globetrotters on The Scooby-Doo Movies.
I would love to see Scooby Doo meets the Ghostbusters, haha!
A lot of people seem to share that sentiment!
Perhaps someday, when Disney finally manages to acquire every single property out there (and before they change their name to Weyland-Yutani), they'll give us the Scooby x Ghostbusters movie!

the Globetrotters are such good guest stars, always enjoy the episodes they are in though this one is my least fave of the 3 they are in, loved the Josie and the Pussycats episode they were good guest stars aswell and loved the setting. Great video, looking forward to watching the rest of season 2
Thank you very much for your kind comments, and for watching and subscribing!
I hope you enjoy the rest of the series!
So I guess the Globe Trotters just left their dog in the vehicle for the whole event. I hope they cracked a window...
Way to go DARK there! Damn!
Oh, wait. I did a decapitation joke about Dribbles, didn't I?
Never mind.

@@JoeGoesOver "Dribbles" would be a good name for a bulldog, since they droll a lot.
@@JoeGoesOver it was a little white whisp that stayed on the screen for only a second, not really a sound I heard.
Where does the "Sabotage. How? When?" come from?
Fair enough, but there were several times when the Globetrotters just pulled basketballs out of nowhere.

Usually for important clues like this, the Scooby writers would have mentioned it a few times or it would have occurred at every instance of the ghosts' appearances.

i notice alot of audio issues in these later episodes, in the Dick Van Dyke episode, there is a part where Velma and Dick Van Dyke are talking and dick's voice is being heard but velmas mouth is moving.
I chalk this up to the incredible pressure Hanna-Barbera was working under at the time to produce all the shows they were contractually obligated to provide to the networks. However, they could have solved this by hiring more people rather than putting so much pressure on the ones already working for them.

3 men in white cloaks during a Harlem Globetrotters episode? they don't need to be ghosts to be scary

Not the greatest optics.
Why didn't Bugs Bunny get the Globetrotters to help save the Looney Tunes instead of Jordan and LeBron?
I didn't like 'Space Jam' the first time around, so I never got 'round to seeing the second.
But yeah, the Globetrotters would have made more sense with their history of thinking outside the box when it comes to what happens on the court. They would have meshed better with the Looney Tunes gang, that's for certain!

The script I'm working does touch on this, and while it's generally considered to be the first time a Scooby show features actual supernatural beings, I'd be remiss not to point out that the Addams Family episode from the previous season featured antics that would likely be considered "supernatural", in particular Thing.

The bad guys deserved worse for that, cause denying your fellow human beings the right to sleep is like suffocating them with pillows so they would asphyxiate to death.

Are you gonna do the scooby doo show when your down with season 2.

I loved this episode when I was younger. I don't really know why, considering it was so scuffed. 😆
We should never question why we liked some things as a child, especially the bad stuff, because we were still learning the difference!

@@matteopugliese4658 that’s true; most people care less about the human characters in those films, because the writers make them less interesting.
Captain scavenger is the one on the thumbnail. Captain moody was from guess who’s not coming to dinner.
In the 1980s, the 'Dallas' TV show was a sensation and when an early season ended on a cliffhanger involving the main character getting shot, the whole country seemed obsessed with the question "Who shot J.R.?"
Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@JoeGoesOver thanks for the info, you should see all the Rocky and Creed movies and I only knew about who shot Mr Burns
At least they had the tact not to use n-word Jim.
I'd like to think they'd never stoop to that, but man.
Shaggy's "Chinese Restaurant" makes you wonder, though...
I know what you mean. That scene makes me cringe.
Right now I see 3 episodes where the villain Might Get a 4 out of 5. episode's 4, 6 and 7 but I do not know (good thing that season 2 only has 8 episodes)
We'll find out together, eventually!
Thanks for watching and commenting!
i had a dvd that only had the globetrotter episodes and idk why or how i owned such a thing or why someone paid like 15 bucks for 2 episodes....idk man
Cynical cash grabs, really.
Just for fun i made a list of What's New episodes that do not have a costume (counting robots that have the villain inside as costumes as you said you would do)
There's No Creature Like Snow Creature It's Mean, It's Green, It's the Mystery Machine
Safari, So Good
Toy Scary Boo
High-Tech House of Horrors (this one doesn't even feature an human villain)
Scooby-Doo Halloween
Large Dragon at Large
Go West, Young Scoob (this one arguably doesn't feature a villain at all exept for a guy messing things up by complete accident, that one would be very hard to rank)
Gentlemen, Start Your Monsters!
Reef Grief!
E-Scream (that's another one in wich while there is a culprit he can't really be called a villain)
I was about to include 3-D Struction but while the villains aren't captured inside the robot It's implied they did drove it. Also Mummy Scares best is a funny example because the villain didn't whore the disguise but he ipnotized someone else to wear it.
I also add some from Mistery Incorporated the other series i am the most familiar, just because. There are a few here ad well.
Howl of the Fright Hound
Escape from Mystery Manor (actually there isn't even a prop or an attempt to pretend there is anything supernatural. Just a bunch of deadly traps)
Wrath of the Krampus (but there was a disguise... for a remote controlled robot. If that's end up being the case it would be so funny that the scooby doo gang where better villains then many of the actual villains)
The Midnight Zone
The Horrible Herd
And then the three final episodes.
0:32 Don't worry , you probably have Gen -Zer's asking "What's DALLAS?"
They did a revival series some time ago, but I couldn't even begin to guess what cable channel or stream service it was on.

Favorite episode with the Globetrotters 😊
I wish I could say the same. The really bad animation was almost a deal-breaker for me, though it did seem the Globetrotters had more to do this time around.
But there's no harm in liking what we like!
Hell, I enjoy 'Kung Pow! Enter the Fist' and it has a 13% on Rotten Tomatoes!

I can't help but be very sympathetic to poor Curly...

I didn't take it as a serious criticism, but it's one of those things that once you see it, you can't unsee it.
Like James Bond's mouth on the cover of 'Goldeneye'.
Would be awesome if mystery inc did a crossover with the Ghostbusters.
It would, especially if it was the Real Ghostbusters.
Sadly, we're talking properties owned by competing studios, so it is unlikely to ever officially happen.

And from what cartoon Kevin kester if that it’s name come from ?
That Kevin Costner snippet is from 'The Critic', a classic primetime animated series from the early 1990s. The show starred Jon Lovitz as the titular film critic and was created by two ex-Simpsons writers. Every episode featured a few short movie parodies, including "JFK" which I sampled for my video.
There's a famous episode of The Simpsons that guest-starred the character and Matt Groening was so angry about being forced to do that he had his name removed from the opening credits in protest.

Are Alex and Alan total rip offs because:
A) They could recycle animation.
B) They wanted brand recognition and fooling kids to watch scooby doo 2
C) All of the above
Why, oh why were they so lazy!

That's hard to pin down as I'm more of a Marvel guy and even back as a teenager when I was a regular comic buyer, it was mostly Marvel stuff that I picked up.

Lately I’ve been watching the episodes I know your going to be covering beforehand and boy oh boy the second season is a stinker. Somehow the plots are even more nonsensical and uninteresting. Oof, these villains had a rather worse showing than many of their predecessors. They tried, bless 'em, but no gold stars today. more skip ads than a tv network that sux
Just make the new episode already i'm getting tired of this waiting
At the time I'm writing this, the script and filming is done and I'm 3/4 of the way through editing.
