Ranking the Villains | The Scooby-Doo Show | Season 1 Part 8

- We've reached the end of the first season of 'The Scooby-Doo Show'!
Did it go out with a whimper or a bang?
Or something in between?
A bimper or a whang?
Wait, that sounds vaguely inappropriate.

The Spirits of 76 Ghosts always freaked me out as a kid. There's just something about the monsters looking like real people as opposed to supernatural creatures that disturbed me.
I guess there is a bit of uncanny valley in "costumes" like that.
Thanks for watching, commenting and subscribing!
Maybe it was the unexpected “BOOOOO!!!” from Benedict Arnold after a transition. For me, it was the eerie music and scene involving the suspicious wall passage when Arnold and Andre came out of hiding from the bear statues.
Considering that Monsters Unleashed and Cyber Chase both use villains from Where are You and the Scooby-Doo Show that would technically mean both shows take place in the same universe. So the Technicolor Phantoms being recolored Phantom Shadows should already be a big giveaway that they were fake.
Well have you seen the Negative 10 rewrite well it got me thinking about Monsters Unleashed
True but you forgot the cotton candy glob being originally from the new Scooby Doo movies also adds that to the lore I mean heck some of the costumes for the museum shots were specifically made for the movie
The continuity of the Dooniverse is really an eye of the beholder sort of deal. A great example can be found in an episode of What’s New Scooby Doo featuring a flashback to when the gang were kids animated in A Pup Named Scooby Doo’s art style. However Fred’s parents appear in What’s New Era Film Pirates Ahoy looking totally different from their A Pup counterparts. You could chock this up to animation style differences, but it muddy’s the water regardless.
In the case of later continuity’s melding together Where Are You and the Scooby Doo Show, even Mystery Incorporated which canonizes all the cases from Where Are You is in the town of Crystal Cove. Not Coolsville like Monsters Unleashed. Therefore I like to think that the events of Where Are You (and occasionally the Scooby Doo Show) are “canon events” in most iterations of the gang, but leave room for alteration. Certain events may play out differently but the ghost and culprit are usually the same. A great example is Dr Jonathan Jacobo in Unleashed, a German mad scientist obsessed with creating real monsters. However in the Scooby Doo Show he is Johnny Jacobo, music pirate. Both characters use the Pterodactyl Ghost as part of a money making scheme, and both are foiled by the Scooby gang. That is about all they have in common besides name.
Basically each series takes place in its own universe, but many series branch off from Where Are You or other shows in some capacity.
This is why I like referring to it as the "Scooby-Dooniverse", which would allow for any number of former characters or their costumes to appear, without necessarily meaning a particular iteration of the Gang encountered them, or that previous events happened exactly the same way.
Sadly, this would also excuse stuff like 'Return to Zombie Island' and totally trying to ruin a classic through retconning.
I know I bring up Godzilla a lot, but I'm not kidding when I say enjoying those films helped me accept how little continuity matters when it comes to enjoying a particular franchise.
Admittedly, the comic book nerd in me absolutely prefers adherence to canon, but I'm also old enough that it may not be a deal breaker, either.
Thank you very much for watching and commenting!
Monsters Unleashed also includes Chickenstein from Pup Named Scooby Doo as well, so throw that into the timeline too
I recognize the first of these episodes! One scene of it went viral on tumblr a while ago. The part where the machine is spanking Shaggy and Velma says she recognizes the noise (of Shaggy in pain, presumably)
Oh. Well, that's interesting!
I could absolutely see THAT scene being misused.
Thanks for watching, commenting and subscribing!
9:41: Yeah, and in "A Clue for Scooby-Doo", Shaggy quickly identified the fake Captain Cutler when he puts seaweed on Cutler's face. Neither of the other members noticed he had a shave, and yet the Beatnik with a Food High is able to detect a difference Cutler's appearance, like it was one of those "Spot the Differences" image tests.
And here I thought Fred was the one on the spectrum!
That part is one of my favorites because it’s one of the few times Shaggy demonstrates how intelligent he is underneath the cowardice and food high. That and the Space Kook episode did it for me. I always like the moments where Shaggy is in on the whole explaining the villains’ schemes cause it shows that despite being a scaredy cat he is still capable of observing things. Give the stoner who filled my teenage girl fantasies with his awkward personality and hidden talent his due diligence for his hidden intelligence..😂
54:44 "Sorry son, but it's against the law"- Special Agent
Scooby eats US Currency
"HA HA HA HA"
-Special Agent "Yeah, Im gonna have to arrest you for that, your dog just ate federal money that's also evidence in a federal case."
Then again, perhaps the Gang could talk their way out of it considering THEY were the ones to uncover what should have been an easily-discovered crime by Federal authorities.
I can't imagine Treasury officials would want to be embarrassed by having it come to light in a courtroom that they somehow overlooked an eight-foot wide chasm at the back of their printing room, while a group of four teenagers found it right away.
How about the Scooby Doo crossover with Josie and the Pu$sycats where they burn the counterfeit money in the steamboat's furnace? Destruction of evidence, and yet no one in law enforcement stopped them?
JoeGoesOver: cooker of videographic comfort food. Whenever I see that thumbnail I always know I’m in for a treat! And a handful of random facts only relevant to an overly specific poorly written criminal enterprise.
Fantastic episode as usual. The Bill Cosby joke got me, can’t wait for Witches Ghost!
Thank you very much!
I'm at the midway point in the 'Witch's Ghost' script currently.
I first had to finish a script for another Scooby-related project that might drop in March or April.
Thanks for watching!
@@JoeGoesOverI’ll be eagerly awaiting both!
After a very satisfying day at work, I came home to discover 1) the Splatoon 3 DLC dropped and 2) Joe had uploaded a new video!
I like to watch these next to my parakeets Joe’s voice gets them to start chattering. Thanks for all your hard work!
The trick is to stop showing it to them just before they start saying "F****** Carl the Stuntman".
Thanks for watching, commenting and subscribing!
To be fair to Shaggy, those popsicles were in wrappers. They were clean enough, but he should've had serious brain freeze.
Can’t freeze what you don’t got!
Ouch, @russellharrell2747!
Why do you have to do poor Shaggy dirty like that?
I mentioned it in another comment, but the street was dirty so the outside of the wrappers were likely contaminated, and so would Shaggy's hands be while unwrapping them, making it possible to transmit germs or even gasoline to his mouth.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@JoeGoesOver it’s weird. We see some super frozen ‘gop’ sickles later in the episodes, presumedly much colder just freezing temp, maybe close to zero Fahrenheit or colder. The street sickles were still frozen, and it’s night time, so presumedly (again) the street wouldn’t be super hot like it would be during direct sunlight in the day time. Ambient temperature could be assumed to be around 70 degrees, with the road surface being a better than average conductor or heat. So the question is…how long were the gops on the road?
The answer: math.
@@JoeGoesOver Yeah I agree! You shouldn't do Shaggy like that, he's just high all the time from smoking weed and/or weed edibles. The guy's got to satisfy his munchies somehow 😂
That spoiler blew my mind when I saw it, way too many years ago to mention here. Looking forward to seeing this episode. Keep up the good work!
Thank you!
I hope you liked it!
Joe should make his own Scooby-doo story.
I absolutely appreciate your confidence in my writing skills, but there is a world of difference between freeform UA-cam content like mine and a structured, three act story necessary for film and television.
That's not to say I haven't toyed with the idea of writing Scooby fan fic, but I don't think I have the talent to do that.
I'm a better editor than I am a writer, to be honest.
If you saw the first drafts of my scripts, you'd wonder how I ever managed to graduate high school!
Thanks for watching!
@@JoeGoesOver we'd still love to see them!
They said at least Benedict Arnold was brave. They said at least his leg should be buried with full military honors.
I always loved that story. It's just so delightfully petty.
Miscellaneous thoughts
The ace decade gag never fails to make me chuckle.
I don't know why but the strawberry phantom is just so appealing to look at.
Also I hadn't heard of William Demont or John Andre before I watched this episode either. Their ghosts did scare me for some reason when I first saw this as a kid. I think it's the way they ran or their looks of potential murderous intent.
Well, THAT, and old people are just scary as hell!
Demont almost looks like my late, evil grandma!
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Oh my, a new ranking, and on my birthday of all days? Thanks Joe!
Per usual, these analyses were great. Keep up the great work, mate!
Congratulations on another year of fending off the Grim Reaper! Here's hoping he's too busy sharpening his scythe next year to notice you as well!
And thank you for watching, commenting, subscribing and supporting my channel!
I'm glad when you include animation errors and especially continuity errors and that does matter to me personally and is one of the reasons why I really like your reviews / analysis. Your humor, your logical analysis, and your care for those sorts of details aren't qualities a lot of reviewers possess
Thank you very much for the kind words!
I have a bad habit of getting easily sidetracked (on UA-cam AND in real life), so I worry sometimes if my villain analysis gets too far off the rails and veers into simply criticizing the production process.
Thanks for watching and subscribing!
3:18 And you wonder why he became a Talented Racecar driver in "The Reluctant Werewolf".
The thing about the Spirits of '76 episode I remember most is all the educational tidbits that were sprinkled throughout. I can't help but think this was done to pad the episode.
I remember the Bicentennial and the yearlong fuss. There was talk at the time about actually ringing the Liberty Bell for the first time since 1846, but that idea was shot down for fear of cracking it further.
To this day, my sharpest memory of any remnants of that era was a special Bicentennial Dennis the Menace comic book that I had at the time, and because of how young I was, had no idea what any of it really meant.
Much of my youth was spent not knowing what anything really meant.
Hell, that's been a lot of my adult life, now I think about it...
@@JoeGoesOver A lot of TV shows made references to the Bicentennial during 1976.
The biggest "offender" was Sanford & Son. It seemed like if they didn't mention the Bicentennial, they mentioned Jaws. While some humor is timeless, other humor is dated. Some people won't get the references.
I watched an episode of the "Super Friends" cartoon from 1973, and they mentioned NY Mets player Bud Harrelson. How many young people these days are going to know who he was?
@@stillaboveground2470 They should have mentioned Ed Kranepool instead.
I want to say Shaggy is just guestimating, but considering how many burgers he eats he probably has figured how many he could have for a hundred.
The armored car causing an earthquake was always to me the most unrealistic thing about both episodes.
I think maybe Shaggy's just worse at math than *I* am!
Thanks for watching and commenting!
At 12:50, Daphne's eyes make it look like she's gone completely mad, or is trying to give Shag and Scoob a literal Death Glare.
I noticed that too
While not as bad as 'The New Scooby-Doo Movies', there have been quite a few random frames like this I've noticed while editing.
At that moment, Daphne definitely looks like someone who'd make a late-1960s sleepover the worst night ever.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
The Neapolitan Phantoms.
Neapolitan? Would that make it "Italian Ice"?
@grapeshot I came to make sure someone said this. 😅
When I hear "Neapolitan", all I can think of is 'The Godfather' novel.
That was my nickname for them too!
My head hurt from all the continuity errors you mentioned in "The Spirit of 76" section.
Also personal fun fact: my uncle was born July 17th 1976 but my grandmother wished he was born on July 4th so she could have an Independence Day Baby.
Or if he'd been born three days earlier he could have been a Bastille Baby!
Thanks for watching, commenting and subscribing!
Wonderful job again as always, Joe! I can't wait for the next season of the Scooby Doo show, as the infamous (and nightmare inducing) Gramps the Vamp will be covered! Hopefully his DOO score lives up to his terrifying appearance from when I watched him as a kid!
Thank you for your nice words!
Season two will be coming, but I had two scripts I had to finish first. The first is done for a potential Scooby-related video that may be coming in March or April and the second script is in the middle stage for my next video.
After that's done, I'll be diving into the next batch of 'The Scooby-Doo Show'.
Thanks for watching!
Loved the "Oh, Sh** Math" xD great as always Joe! Also loved how you said "Three"........ SECRET TUNNEL!!!
Yes this is my reaction to math even though I got through a little harder than basic calculus course in my senior year of highschool and I graduated with honors in math as well as science lol
Hi Joe, i'm a recent viewer on the channel, but wanted to say, that i really enjoy the videos you make. As a long time Scooby-Doo fan it's refreshing to have someone put so much work and time in analyzing episode by episode the shows.
The idea to review them from the perspective of the villains is interesting. I crack up with the ordinary, dead pan logic you use for the different situations. It's fun to point out stuff, that would happen only, because it's a cartoon :d And speaking of that, maybe you are giving too much slack in the scores to the poor villains. After all, if they don't make mistakes on the way, the gang won't be able to solve the mystery.
I haven't gone back to catch up on all shows yet, but the formula on the Scooby-Doo show is great. Dissecting 2 episodes in these longer videos is a real treat. You do a wonderful job in going through every part of the episode. Maybe you can squeeze in the Operations part, some of the gangs aspect on solving the mystery. I love when you include the goofy and almost absurd scenes they have. I'm sure no one would mind, if you let loose some laughs, when you describe them, as there are plenty cooky stuff, that happen. All the callbacks to previous episodes and other media are also really appreciated.
I hope you continue with the Scrappy shows as well. I know, they are not as structured as these original ones, but it would be great to see, what you would think about them. Especially those short ones they had, will be a real wtf is happening.
Thank you very much for your nice words!
I've had quite a few inquires as to how or if I'll handle some of the Scrappy era, and so far I'm leaning toward just focusing on the series that maintained the Scooby formula (Gang stumbles upon a mystery involving a guy in a mask, chaos ensues, you meddling kids, etc.). I don't think I can really do much with the ones that just focus on Shaggy, Scooby and Scrappy in a wacky scenario.
Thanks for watching and subscribing!
The incline going up, straight from Batman 1960s.
But no guest stars to awkwardly confront the Gang!
Thanks for watching and commenting!
2:15 Well, This is Hanna-Barbara we're talking about. They regularly Re-use character models simply to make new characters. A prime example was Zorak from Space Ghost who was actually a re-use model of the Aliens from Jabberjaw's "Theres No Place Like Outer Space".
Hanna-Barbera is a classic entertainment industry catch-22.
If you want TV animation, you have to cut costs to make it affordable.
But by cutting costs to make it affordable, you make bad TV animation.

Major Andre might not have been a traitor but he's not the worst choice since he conspired with Benedict Arnold. If Ben's there, it makes sense that Andre's there. I'll also give the Scooby writers props for including William Demont, he's obscure enougj that he doesn't even have a wikipedia page or known picture. They clearly did their homework to pick him.
About the inconsistencies you mentioned, the out of universe explanation is likely that the animators changed their mind on who was in each costume but I have a theory. Wilit and Clive both clearly took their costumes off at multiple points so the third guy might have as well. It's possible they just grabbed the nearest outfit and put it on, that they weren't always dressed as the person they were unmasked as.
As for the scene where all three are watching Mr. Clive, Shaggy might have been onto something when he accused Grumper of being one of the villains during the unmasking. He's the only other suspect so he's the only one who could've been in that third costume unless Wilit and Clive have another henchman.
Your interpretation makes the most sense and would explain the disparity.
It would also explain why pudgy Benedict Arnold was supposedly being played by skinny Mr. Clive, while the svelte William Demont had the more portly Mr. Wilit inside.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Who was demont?
Hey man, I just wanna say thanks for making these videos. As someone who recently found your channel 2-3 months ago, your videos are very enjoyable and I have binged all of the old ranking the villains vids. I understand if you are experiencing burnout on these videos as you have been making similar ones for over a year, but I just wanted to let you know I and many others really enjoy them. You deserve a lot more subscribers
Thank you very much for the kind words!
I can understand the danger of burnout, but so far I haven't felt any. I'm not saying that won't happen, but luckily I'm still fully engaged in the series.
The hardest part is still sitting down at my empty Word template to begin the script, wondering where I even start.
Somehow, a week later, I'm doing my final read-through before transferring the file to my teleprompter!
Thanks for watching!
That lightning came right down beside the Mystery Machine⚡️🌩
At least they were smart enough to get indoors afterward! The Gang aren't always the best when it comes to safety.
I work in a cake factory annnnnnd yeah, they don't care about our safety as much as they should 😬. Also these episodes taking place in food factories send my anxiety through the roof because of a little thing I like to call HYGIENE!
Man, could I tell you some stories of when I worked at the old bakery!
One of my favorites was how we failed every board of health inspection, but because we always got a make-up inspection in 30 days, that gave us all the time in the world for "business as usual" until two or three days before the scheduled inspection. That's when we'd go on an orgy of cleaning and repairs and then pass the exam with flying colors.
Of course, after that we went back to not doing much cleaning or sanitization until the next surprise inspection.
I should stress that I was just a dumb teenager and it wasn't my place to question what I was told to do (or not to do) by the owner or his manager.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
This is one of the episodes i remember most. The Vanilla, Strawberry and Chocolate Phantoms use to be my favorites for what ever reason lol. They just seemed so tasty and ice cream (minus chocolate cause i cant eat it anymore) is even more tasty
I had cancer, but losing the ability to eat chocolate sounds worse! Holy ****!
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Got to admit, the roar of the Chocolate Phantom after the door was locked is pretty chilling, also I'm assuming the next one will be Season 3 Episode 1, Watch out the Williwaw?
Stupid time zones, this video came out just minutes after I went to bed lol. At least I could catch it now in the morning.
The ice cream episode has finally been covered so now you don't have to deal with me yapping about it anymore. Yeah Sammy's plan and outfit wasn't the best but I still like the episode largely due to nostalgia. Perhaps the trio did think of switching to using one of the ice cream trucks and that's why there were a bunch of "gopsicles" on the floor, but they decided against it because they didn't want to leave the armored truck there, the police would have been notified of a missing ice cream truck and made the connection that the villains switched vehicles. This means the police would be searching for an ice cream truck and made it easier for the villains to be tracked down. Also the armored truck is more secure in case things got really bad... bad to the point of the villains having to ram through something (even though it failed at the end) or law enforcement opening fire on their truck for whatever reason.
As for Sammy not changing his appearance, since it looks like the armored truck only has space for two seats in the front, maybe the henchmen (who could just be hired recently and not actively wanted like Sammy himself) would be in the driver and passenger seats while Sammy hid with the money in the back? And since specifically an armored bank truck was reported as missing and was now disguised as an ice cream delivery truck, it would be less likely that the truck would be searched at any tollbooth or border crossing. I guess Sammy and his henchmen hadn't learned the Scooby gang's trick of fitting 4 people and a dog all in the front of their van...
As someone with a history interest, it's always cool to see historical figures mentioned or adapted as disguises in episodes. Although yeah seems like a strange trio. Benedict Arnold makes sense and I guess there's a stretch to be made for including John André (admittedly the American Revolution is not a subject I know all that much about) but this William Demont guy seems like they really couldn't come up with anyone else. Hell, if you google "William Demont", his ghost from this episode is among the first things that pops up, so he's clearly quite obscure.
Funny that both villains got a 2.3 D.O.O. Score here. And I wasn't expecting the Demon Shark to be dead last out of the Season 1 monsters. A good disguise doesn't always save someone it seems. At least he wasn't as bad as F***ing Carl the Stuntman.
Great video as always, Joe!
Thank you for your nice words!
Your theories do seem to fit the circumstances, but remember that the ice cream factory was emptied by this point, so if the villains took one of the delivery vehicles, they'd be long gone before anyone would notice.
Also, the armored truck did fit all three of the bad guys in the front, as seen during their capture at the end.
It was hilarious during my search for information about the traitors that most (if not all) "photos" of Demont was how he was depicted in this episode!
Thank you again for watching and subscribing!
@@JoeGoesOver The owner was still there, but fair enough. And yes they did fit three in the front at the end, but Sammy could still have hid in the back at the time when the villains would have left.
I find it funny that they didn't just do Benedict Arnold and two redcoats as ghosts since Arnold is the only figure there that most American kids would know of and it's not uncommon for H-B to give unnamed henchmen generic disguises like Redbeard's crew. Sure they did a redcoat for that one TNSDM episode but it was only one and also it's not like H-B avoids reusing character models .
To be fair the owner was there, but he only showed up at the factory because his silent alarm tripped when the Mystery Machine smashed into the doors. Who could say if and when he would visit the factory when it was shut down from lack of employees? Would Mr. Queen have reason to inspect the garage? Would he be curious enough to lift a tarp on a vehicle parked in the back?
There definitely seemed to be enough room in the back for Sammy to hide, but it sure looked like it would have been an uncomfortable journey! Then again, for a million dollars, I'd be willing to cram my bloated body into a lotus position for a few hours if that was the payday!
It's funny, but only after scrubbing through the video to double check what the rear of the truck looked like (which actually changed during the course of the episode), I just noticed how easily the doors flew open when the vehicle smashed into the doors at the end. You'd think an armored car wouldn't so easily spill its contents like that!
As for the choice of Spirit of '76 villains, I wonder if the writer was a history buff who was just happy he was able to inject a bit of esoteric history in his script?
3:58 At least the gob-sicles were in wrappers, so there's no chance of germs.
Except Shaggy is unwrapping them there on the street, so any oil, grit and germs on the outside of the wrappers are being transmitted to his hands for possible contamination!
Thanks for watching and commenting!
I have a feeling that the spirits of 76 is going to “sound familiar” to an episode of What’s new, Scooby Doo…the toy one with the mall and such. With the drilling and covering up the sound.
It's been YEARS since I've watched all of 'What's New, Scooby-Doo?' so, while your description is vaguely familiar, it'll probably feel brand new by the time my channel reaches that series.
Thanks for watching, commenting and subscribing!
I was disappointed that when Benedict Arnold was caught, that it wasn't Peter Brady under the mask.
I'm even more surprised there was never a crossover with the Brady Bunch and the Scooby Gang!
Of course, 'The Brady Kids' cartoon was done by Hanna-Barbera's mortal enemy, Filmation, so alas, it would never be.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@JoeGoesOver Well, since Scooby Doo is Hanna-Barbera and The Brady Kids was Filmation, that would put the kibosh on that.
@@stillaboveground2470 That's what he said!
The Spirit of '76 episode is still one of my favourites, you see a bit of the actual friendship of the gang and some levity (without much of the snark). It did seem to be quite heavy handed with the "crime doesn't pay" moral message with the villains stealing unfinished bills. I neglected to congratulate you on 6K subscribers, well done! :)
Thank you very much! I can't believe I have this many subs, and it keeps me motivated to not only continue my uploads, but also improve my filming and editing process!
I'll occasionally joke about how poorly Shaggy and Scooby seem to be treated by the rest, but in the end, the Gang's friendship is easily the heart of almost every series.
Thanks for watching and subscribing!
When i was a kid, watching the spirits of 76, i always thought one of the ghosts was Benjamin Franklin cause his resemblance was almost identical
YES! In fact, if you look at the earlier appearances of Major Andre, he looks exactly like George Washington, too!
It legitimately made me wonder if the original script had the ghosts being Benedict Arnold, George Washington and Benjamin Franklin, and it got as far as pre-production art and a few finished cels before someone was like, "Uh, you guys realize that Washington and Franklin were the GOOD GUYS, right?"
Thanks for watching and commenting!
I can think of ways to make the ghost of the traitors scary but no kid friendly ways
Role-trading can explain why Wilit and Clive are present while the villains are in the same place
That's the only way it would have worked, but it just seemed so pointless for them to have done that.
We all know the REAL reason!
Hanna-Barbera really should have paid their animators more!
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Thank you for another episode of the series, I really enjoy it!
Your humor is always on point (I love your running jokes, like "helicopter", "secret tunnel" and "fuck Carl the stuntman") and your reviews make a lot of sense.

Thank you very much! I hope to do so!
Watching old Scooby episodes with my (then much younger) daughter is what put me on the path to make these videos in the first place. It's one thing seeing the series through her eyes and quite another to watch them as a grown-up when all the things that you took for granted as a kid start to make little sense as an adult.
Thanks for watching and subscribing, too!
The Ghost of bad humer man has always been my favourite Scooby-Doo episode when I was growing up I don't know why but this episode it was a mystery it was scary it was cool but I'd love to
There simply is no accounting for what we consider our favorite.
For example, my favorite Godzilla kaiju is Anguirus, probably because Stegosaurus was always my favorite dinosaur and Anguirus always reminds me of a rambunctious dog.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
My favourite dinosaur from Jurassic Park is rexy the tyrannosaurus rex she's the largest strongest and the biggest tyrannosaurus rex involved the other tyrannosaurus in the entire Jurassic Park franchise and of all the t-rexes I think she and the buck and big Eatie kill the spinosaurus easily
Thank you for a great video. Can't believe you're already done with season 1
Thank you in turn for the nice comments!
It does feel like only yesterday that I started, despite the hundreds of hours spent on producing these things!
I hope you'll continue watching when I start the next season!
Thanks for watching!
@JoeGoesOver Come on Joe, you know I'm not going anywhere. I can't wait for you to do the next movie. I'm going to be here every time you release a new vid. You have become my favorite youtuber. You should start doing merchandise, because I would definitely buy. I could already imagine a Carl the Stuntman shirt
I have considered possible merch, but unfortunately copyright issues would likely crop up.
In fact, for the two or three T-shirts I designed, I had to go with a Chinese printer because those based in the U.S. didn't want to touch them for fear of copyright infringement, despite what I did obviously being fair-use.
I only printed one or two each, but that was still more than the companies wanted to risk.
I will say though, I was very impressed by what the company I used produced. Despite many washings, there has been little to no fading or peeling AND the material itself was extremely comfortable. I can't say the same for stuff I've bought from other UA-camrs offering less copyright-scary stuff!
Maybe I'll reconsider a limited merch run after I (hopefully) hit 10,000 subs.
Love your content, Joe! Gives me something to pass the time while I'm working my midnight shift week :) Thanks for the great videos!
Thank you very much for the kind words!

@@JoeGoesOver Thanks and speaking of Cass Elliot, I remember laughing at all the fat jokes when I was a kid. But years later, I discovered who Mama Cass was and after discovering that she died a year after the episode's release. It has become a little mean-spirited and a bit difficult to watch.
I cringe at some of the stuff I thought was hilarious when I was younger, even stuff from a decade [ACE DECADE] ago.
I chalk it up to the benefits (and curse) of maturing.
Great ranking as always. Seeing this cheered me up a little after the nightmare week I've had so thank you so much
Here's my ranking I've not seen either episode but I'm doing this based on this awesome video
1) Ghosts of Benedict Arnold, Major Arnold and William Demont
2) Technicolor phantoms
I only ranked the phantoms lower since at least the Ghosts had new designs as opposed to the phantoms
Thank you very much for your kind comment!
I hope your subsequent week has improved!
I've been unusually busy at my day job this week, so my comment responses have taken longer than usual.

@JoeGoesOver no problem thank you for the incredible content as always.
I wish I could say this week has been better I really do... last week on Tuesday exactly 4 weeks after my dad's death and the day of his funeral we lost my grandad. Then today... we've had to put my dog Diesel down that I've had for 13 years we basically grew up together (I was 6 when we got him so not quite 100% grown up together but very close to it.) 3 losses in 2024 so far... I hate 2024
Although some good news since its all been bad. Saturday last week we got a puppy which we named Storm (Storm-Jay to me and my mom though, my dad was called Jason so Jay is in honour of him.)
I hope it's not been too stressful for you :( I hate when works busy, I've not been in since 20th January because of grief though
No problem it's my pleasure
I'm so sorry to hear that. Words are always inadequate for those going through loss like that, and it's bitterly unfair that anyone should suffer so many in such a short amount of time.
The only advice I can give to anyone is to grieve in whatever matter helps you cope. You may get others telling you the proper way to show emotion or that you just need to "cheer up" or that your loved ones wouldn't want you to feel the way you do, but in the end the only real cure is time. And even that isn't a cure as years later you might find yourself grieving again for no reason you can even identify.
Back in 2010 I lost one of my best friends to suicide. Easily the worst day of my life since another friend and I were caught in the middle of what was going on. Years later, I was watching a Beatles documentary and suddenly found myself crying for no reason. It took me a moment to realize that 'Across the Universe' was playing in the background and that was my friend's favorite Beatles song (possibly even his favorite song all together). I had been crying before I even knew why I was crying.
I know this sounds like I'm saying there no end to grief, but to be honest, it never really ends. But we incorporate the pain into our lives and it becomes part of who we are. Some can accept that, others cannot. Which is why I say mourn your losses in whatever way brings you comfort and don't worry about what others say.
Congrats for your puppy! I only wish my own recent dog experiences were as pleasant.
One of my cats is very old and vomits a lot. Earlier this week, I stepped outside my place to my son's apartment next door. We spoke for a while and when I went back to my place, my dog came out to greet my kid. He started to pet her and then stopped because she smelled awful. Sure enough, in that brief ten minutes I left my place, my old cat puked on the floor and my stupid dog rolled around in it, getting it deep in her fur and all over her collar.
I love Caramel, but there are days...
@JoeGoesOver thank you so much your words help a lot regardless. Its absolutely horrible how much has happened in such a short amount of time :( its like 2023 & 2024 are just a test to see how long it'll take to break me
Currently what I've been doing is try to distract myself with me and my moms bedroom swap, however soon I'm going to try distract myself with writing fanfic again as that's helped me before. I haven't even been able to watch one of my favourite shows since I lost my dad (we never watched it together its just the next episode, I got to it at the worst possible time. Said episode is all about the grief Luz feels all these years later after her dad's death and I got to that episode the day my dad died so I've not brought myself to continue my rewatch yet...) time will hopefully help
I'm so sorry about the loss of your friend I can't imagine how traumatising that must have been being caught in the middle of that :( I get what you mean with things making you cry without realising though. Just this morning I was having a cuddle with Storm in bed then I looked over at Diesels couch to check he didn't feel left out before realising... I keep finding myself nearly crying but also tears aren't coming a lot either?
Thank you so much! We got Storm to help Diesel, me and my mom its just all the more heartbreaking that we lost Diesel so soon after, Diesel never warmed to Storm but I think he was being hurt by Storm but Storm didn't realise. He'd always pull away from Storm and Storm would go by his paw, his paw was part of why we had to put him down (there was other stuff too but his paw was a big part too) so I think he never warmed to him due to that but he couldnt tell us since well he was a dog. Oh yikes I'm so sorry about your cat vomiting so much :( if it helps at all Storm did something similar. He has a habit of playing with his training pads and he'd just used one of them... then he played with it and well I won't say what happened but EWWWWWWWW
41:32 Well, Arnold was previously betrayed by other revolutionaries stealing credit for his acheivements, so…
My grandmother calls that musgo when everyone gets leftovers for dinner
As in "we 'musgo' away because dinner is disappointing?"
Otherwise, it's Spanish for moss (apparently).
I'm at a loss.
Regardless, thanks for watching and commenting!
Funny thing, I'm not from an English speaking region, but a local station ran both Where Are You? and this show A LOT. And as I was just starting to learn English, the designs of the phantoms and the setting immediately convinced me that the episode's monsters where supposed to be masses on confectionary animated by ghosts.
Honestly, just the fact that the color schemes of the phantoms matched the holy trinity of vanilla, chocolate and strawberry would be enough to tempt me to give their outfits a 2/5.
Thank you for your insight as a foreign viewer!
After discovering that a portion of those watching my videos aren't living in the United States, I've been trying to shape my scripts with that understanding, doing my best to explain things that Americans would immediately recognize but might be lost on those outside the country.
I'm not always successful, but I will try to do my best!
It's nice to see at least the color scheme worked to explain the story to a non-English speaking audience and hopefully helped with learning a new language!
Anyone who can speak more than one gets earns my respect.
Thanks for watching!
@@JoeGoesOver The really wild thing is while I was watching the classics on a local station, I was also watching Mystery Inc. on CN when I vividly remember being excited when I saw the show back from a hiatus I now know was the gap between seasons. So Scooby's always been a very special franchise to me.
Being from Sweden and being born in 1996 it was real hard to recognize any of the celebraties from the New Scooby doo movies. As a kid I knew Batman and that was pretty much it. @@JoeGoesOver
The American Traitors are some of my favourite ghosts from the entire franchise. They were so goofy, and I'm a history fanatic, so... 😂
Even the worst of villains would have to be someone's favorite, especially if they met a common interest.
Hell, who's to say Carl the Stuntman wouldn't be Jane Goodall's most liked Scooby bad guy, if she ever watched the show?
F****** Carl the Stuntman...
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Huh, learn something new every day. I've always enjoyed The Ghost of the Bad Humor Man episode, even with the villain retread. But, I must have zoned out during the movies because I didn't realize they'd already done the exact same thing. In my defense, even as a Scooby fan those initial movies were way, waaaay too long and not fleshed out as well as the modern versions, so I may have fallen asleep during that one (and several others) 😄
There's no harm in not appreciating other eras of a franchise or performer.
I've been a lifelong Beatles fan, but I really only like what they did starting from Revolver on.
I'm not a huge fan of the "She Loves You Yeah Yeah Yeah" stage of their careers.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@JoeGoesOver Oh I soldiered through the original movies anyway, and did enjoy Shaggy meeting Alex (Shaggy 2.0) from Josie and the Pussycats. I don't think they'd figured out at that stage how to stretch the premise out that far yet. Agree about The Beatles, very much a two distinct eras band. Don't think Lennon was enamoured with their early efforts either, so we're in good company! Cheers for the great vids 😊
Would you believe ten minutes after I made that comment, I'm sitting here at my desk answering another one when I suddenly hear "She loves you yeah, yeah, yeah" playing from my living room?
Apparently, my wife had been scrolling through her social media feed and someone had posted a video about old songs from the 1960s and she happened to play that one, not knowing what I had been doing in my studio.
Coincidences never fail to give me the heebie-jeebies.
@@JoeGoesOver Or... Carl the Ape Man is sick of all the abuse and, disguised as your wife, is now seeking revenge via early Beatles songs. If you pull at her face and it's still actually your wife, I don't know you. Remember, mirrors are your friend 🪞
I think Carl has suffered enough than to be married to me.
I know this is a long way from now ,but i can't wait until you review Mystery Incorporated .I'm predicting low design scores since most of the villains were motivated by revenge rather than money and pretty high operation scores for all the attempted murders
In the back of my mind I've been wondering how I'd handle ranking the ones from 'Mystery Incorporated', considering the entire series had the overarching plot involving Pericles and his version of the Gang. At this point, I still don't know how to proceed, but that's still, as you said, quite a ways away based on my current output speed.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
You okay, man? Taking a break? If you got sick, I hope you get better soon.
Thanks for asking, but I'm (mostly) fine.
There's a bit of a delay because I had to finish another script for a different Scooby project that won't be uploaded until possibly April or May.
The next RtV script is completed and hopefully I should film it this weekend.

@@JoeGoesOver Looking forward to it! I don't keep track of the schedules of 95% of the channels I watch. I just get a spidey-sense tingle feeling that I haven't seen a new video lately...if that makes any sense without me typing out 6 more paragraphs.
Taking a break from Carl the Stuntman. A little of him goes a long way!
the man uploaded this guy also i always laugh at the carl the stunt man joke and why that sound familiar
You made a miscalculation on your math about the armored truck. The weight wasn't evenly distributed across the length and width of the truck, but rather was concentrated on the contact patches of the tires, thus increasing significantly the pounds per square inch the truck exerted on the concrete.
Damn, how heavy were those tires?
Keep up the great videos! Cannot wait for some more :D
Thank you very much for the nice comment!
I'm in the middle of a script for a Scooby-related side project that has to be finished before I can start my next RTV, but I'll still be doing my best to have a new one uploaded within two weeks.

I was going to watch this yesterday morning before work, but then I forgot.
Season 1 really seems all over the place. Some episodes have iconic villians and some are just reskins of other monsters. Scooby doo Where are you feels better in most ways.
They both have their charms.
Obviously, I'd rank 'Where Are You?' higher because it established the franchise formula and maintained a seriousness that 'The Scooby-Doo Show' lacked, but by the same token, the latter often involved crazier (and thus potentially more entertaining) scenarios.

The ghost of Dr. Coffin is still the number 1 villain this season!!
Despite seeing both the Mama Cass and Technicolor Phantoms episodes I’d never realized it’s the same exact plot, but just missing the celebrity cameo. While I was surprised by the lower D.O.O. score our Neopolitan friends got, I do have to say the memorable villains scoring as low as they did as a whole this season was unexpected.
As for the Spirit of 76s I had summed up my thoughts on a video another Scooby content creator did fairly recently, so I’m just gonna paste my thoughts here and add more in another paragraph, The Spirits of 76 is an episode I saw on the 13 Spooky Tales from Around the World dvd, and ngl I always thought they went to the Smithsonian never knew the name was different. I do love the twist that it was the nice guard and not the old mean guard. The inclusion of the cotton gin is cool to me because Eli Whitney is an interesting historical figure. Logically though, I’d think the Reserve would have some sort of alarms in the broken money press room in case something did happen like the episode, and the agent just skims over the destruction of federal and historic property caused by the villains and the gang.
I know from my original watches of this episode because of the DVD I always had a feeling the old mean guard knew what was going on, especially I’m pretty sure during the unmasking he mentioned he was down patrolling the basement where the drainage was. He’d had to see drilled in wall. I also thought because for whatever reason the disc would skip that Clive was a random never shown person because I’d never seen him in the episode. 100% Scooby and the gang should be banned from all museums, I’m pretty sure Scooby destroys an art museum’s dinosaur exhibit in What’s New. I can’t wait for next season’s rankings.
Could you please give me the name of that other content creator?
Believe it or not, in the official subtitles of the episode, "Splitsonian" is written as "Smithsonian". I guess the subtitle guys didn't get the memo.
You'd think Mr. Grumper would have found the tunnel, but then again, it was hidden and it was just dumb luck on Scooby's part that he found the switch. Still, seeing wet footprints leading to a wall should have been suspicious enough for Grumper to have made at least one phone call.

I love your videos they are very interesting and informative about how some designs get reused but you can’t argue that the episodes are good to watch I think the reason some of the costumes get reused is for callbacks to Scooby Doo where are you
Thank you very much for your kind words! And it's true that, even in many of the worst episodes, they weren't boring to watch!
You're being much more kind as to the reason behind reused character models than I would. The more you learn about how miserly animation studios were back in the day, the more obvious their cost-cutting attempts become.
A duplicated costume just means nobody had to be paid to design a new one from scratch.

Those tall ships really lifted the nation’s spirits after Watergate
Yes a wreck like that they would have found out gravity is more than just a theory.
The conreadental news broadcast trope is based on soem facts as your brian tunes out non important stuff but since crime is there life they would have there brain and have them notice it
I suppose I COULD see that as an in-universe explanation, but remember: that's for those inside the screen. For those of us doing the observation, WE get to decide what we pay attention to when we're watching. By not having incidental music before or after the broadcast, it's a form of cheating.
I can’t wait for the review of witches ghost next that’s gonna be amazing
It's been done for a couple of days now, but I've been having UA-cam content match issues with it. I'm hoping it'll be live tomorrow afternoon or evening, but that's only if it doesn't get flagged again.

@@JoeGoesOver copyright stuff is a pain sadly but I’ve been rewatching your other videos while waiting for the vid to drop
The Spirits of 76 used to freak me out when was shown on tv creeped me out how wax dummies came to life at 1st (Plus the shot of Major Andre staring down at the gang when they arrive in the museum is just creepy as they didnt know they were being watched)
Wax dummies are creepy and always have been.

1 of my favourite episodes though love it
One of my odder online hobbies is collecting the "every state's" such-and-such or so-and-so places-to-eat list that MSN will announce. A recent one -- "The oldest restaurant in every state" by Business Insider -- names New York's oldest as the '76 House in Tappan, which advertises as part of its charm its presence during events of the Revolutionary War. Chief among them was that the building itself served as a prison for Major Andre until he as executed... hopefully not by food poisoning.
I have a side-gig now doing social media for a restaurant chain and I cannot tell you how triggering the words "food poisoning" have become to me.

I always enjoy these breakdowns, although I do have to ask for some clarification: are you rating the writers or the actual criminals? If rating the writers, I can agree with taking off points for lack of originality, but if it’s the criminals who are under the microscope, they can’t be faulted for coming up with a similar plot or outfit to another unrelated criminal. I could see maybe deducting half a point or a point in that case, just for fairness’s sake, but it’s not Sammy’s fault that Creeps and Crawls created the Phantom Shadows disguises first. Loved it as always, just bringing up some food for thought.
It's actually a little bit of Column A and a little bit of Column B.
When it comes to the Design aspect, it's definitely weighing a lot more on the writers because, as you said, a villain isn't likely to know what other bad guys have done before, though based on the episode, it might be still possible to rate the in-Dooniverse villain for his plot.
Ditto for the Outfit score. You're correct that Sammy the Shrimp wouldn't have known about Creeps and Crawls' costumes, unless of course EVERYBODY shops at Acme Costume Rental.
With the Operation ranking, that would definitely focus more on the villain's actions. Except, of course, the writers are responsible for everything done by the bad guys, since it's what they wrote for them to do, presumably.
It's easy to go cross-eyed if you spend too much time overthinking whether the blame (or credit) goes to the writers or the villain, considering the villain is merely the product of the writer.
It's unfortunate that as this ranking series has evolved, there are going to undoubtedly be occasions where something I say contradicts something I've said before. I'm going to do my best to remain as fair and consistent as I can, but I'm only human.
Probably.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!
Why is his name Sammy the shrimp if he’s not in the shrimp costume I wonder why he got that name
Mobsters loved to give demeaning nicknames to each other.
He was probably shorter than others in his crime circle.
Hey joe im so happy we just got a new episode also since your done with season 1 and the next episode is vampire bats and scaredy cats can you talk about the alternate version of the episode that quite a few differences
I wasn't aware of this, but I usually check out trivia in the episodes after I watch them to double-check anything I thought was strange, so if that's the case and I can find a decent source, I may end up taking a look.

@JoeGoesOver you can find the rough cut of that episode on the internet archive, it was really easy for me to find and if need more information about it I'd be happy to send it your way
Regarding the spirits of 76, I think a huge angle of the scheme was missed. The bills they struck were all misprints. Those are worth much more than regular dollars, especially of they had a way to authenticate the bills without getting caught doing so.
I think misprints would only count if they were acknowledged by the experts, who would likely be well aware of a massive number of stolen property from the Mint.

Since I’m guessing, witch ghost will be next the sad thing is the main supernatural thing will be low only because it only takes up a few minutes over the real mystery that happens at the beginning

A missing ice cream truck would be called in to the cops.
Yup and they would have left the real truck there which would have been found. Then the police would have been after an ice cream truck and could quite easily track the villains down. By disguising the armored truck as an ice cream truck they could have also probably gotten past any border crossings or similar without too much suspicion, since the police were looking for an armored bank truck.
That's probably the best reason for them having disguised the truck, but they still could have simply taken one of the real ice cream trucks in the back, replaced it with the armored car and put a tarp over it. The factory was empty by that point, so there weren't going to be any employees asking about what the tarp was doing there, and be curious enough to lift it.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Don't ever steal an ice cream truck in GTA. It is a recipe for disaster.
William Dumont sold a secret map to the British. There is passing reference to him in a Jeff Shaara historical fiction novel.
There are a lot of tidbits like this secreted throughout books by history nerds.

To be fair, the color and design tweaks were a lot easier to get away with in an era before the internet, or even VHS players/recorders at home. They never could have known an era of anyone checking their work was coming.
Honestly, even if they did, I don't think Hanna-Barbera would have tried any harder.
I give Bill and Joe all the credit in the world for creating so much of our childhood favorites, but those two never seemed to care that much about quality control.

4:11 hey at least the popsicles were in their wrappers
While you're not wrong, they WERE still in the street. The dirty, filthy street.
Who could say whether or not any gravel or other sharp debris might not have opened tiny holes in the wrapper, allowing dirt or germs to enter?
Or that Shaggy might have had oil or gasoline from the road on his fingers when opening them?
If he'd had at least been able to rinse them off in a sink somewhere first, it might have been less horrific.

@@JoeGoesOver no probs, but I only saying that this is still better than eating unwrapped food off the floor.
Plus the popsicles, sorry Gop sicles on top of the pile didn't touch the ground so at least they are somewhat safer
44:01, 44:25, 44:46,
Best explanation I can think of is that Clive, Willet and the other guy had accomplices that weren’t caught.
It's the only in-Dooniverse explanation that would make sense, but then the implication would be that there are a few henchmen out there who weren't caught.
Then again, it wouldn't be the ONLY time that it appeared as though the Gang didn't round up all the bad guys.

another great vid!!
Thank you very much! I hope you liked it!
I loved the icecream goasts as a kid.
00:57 Don't forget to invite Poptarts to drink some beers too.
19:45 What if part of the 2 million dollars was in coins? There could have been a bunch of coins in the bags, or even nicely sorted out in the metal containers. Obviously a part of the money clearly is cash, but how much would 2M weigh in pennies, or nickles, or dimes, or quarters? Half dollars?
Admittedly, I did find myself momentarily contemplating while writing the script going to the extreme and calculating the weight of the stolen money in pennies, but I didn't feel that was necessary as we saw the bills splayed on the floor.
To be fair, two million dollars in pennies would weigh around 8,000 tons, so if that had somehow been crammed into the armored truck, it would have been easier to forgive the cracked concrete floor.

I will say after watching and re watching all your ranking videos the only one that so far got a perfect doo score was one of my favorite Scooby villains the space kook and even though you haven’t yet covered the rest of the Scooby doo show I do like that the second scariest villain in the Scooby doo villains gallery is currently the highest ranking villain in the Scooby doo show. The ghost of dr coffin was honestly creepy for me with his creepy laugh and the fact that he’s a insane asylum dr that went mad gave me the creeps yes the whole plan wasn’t truly well thought it didn’t matter much cause I think next to space kook he’s one the creepiest villains

If you want to do something pretty funny Joe I had Neapolitan ice cream today I bought it not because it’s my favorite because it was the cheapest thing there and I didn’t feel like paying so much for Ben & Jerry’s 😂😂 PS a great video
Thank you very much! I appreciate your nice words!
I'm not much of an ice cream person myself, but when I do buy it, I am absolutely willing to spend a little extra for the good stuff.
My wife is fine with the cheaper varieties, but the store brand she gets is rock hard and turns to ice crystals way too quickly. She also mostly buys boring flavors like vanilla and... actually, that's ALL she buys. Vanilla.
Me, I'll buy the Ben & Jerry's Chocolate Fudge Brownie or the Oreo Cookies & Cream, but again, rarely.
My go-to sweet snack is Rolos and M&Ms. Easy to eat and portable. My FAVORITE would be malted milk balls, but I get those rarely as the store that carries them is on the other side of town and I hate driving.

I just watched a good armored car. Heist movie not too long ago called Dead Presidents.
That's an oldie. Which is really sad because I remember when it came out.
Never actually watched it myself, but action crime dramas aren't my cup of tea.
@JoeGoesOver a little bit more than just a crime drama, it also talks about the effects of war on people, in this case, the Vietnam War.
The best films and television are often about more than what they would appear to be on the surface!
I just found out about another 'generic trademark' Aside from Kleenex, Velcro, Popsicle, and Pop-tarts, apparently 'Dumpster' was the actual brand name for a trash receptacle company. Found that out because someone pointed out how 'Dumpster' was capitalized in a Goosebumps book, because it was a trademark at the time.
On the one hand, a company should be happy that their product is so ubiquitous that people refer to EVERY similar product using your brand name.
On the other hand... wait a minute. I don't care about massive corporations and their copyright woes! They don't GET an "other hand"!

My favorite villain from this Scooby-Doo series is the Tar Monster 👹 and the cat 🐈⬛ creature
I should be getting to both of them in the reasonably near future (assuming you meant the Cat Creature that terrorized Daphne's poor aunt).
Thanks for watching and commenting!
And with that the scooby doo show wrapped up. Overall it started out strong but then in the second half the plot start become weaker and/or reashy. But overall an enjoyable season trough and trough. However i think the second season is much stronger, but would get to it later.
While i know the Ice Cream's Phantom design wasn't original i didn't expect it to get so low. Partially beacuse i forgot some of the similarities with the Mama Cass episode (i think some like eating the food on the flor are a natural result of setting the episode in a candy factory but others like Shaggy dressing as the villain are very egregious) but also because many of those wheren't really related to the villains' plot. I know you are judging the writers too, but i think you should judge them in the way they write the villains and things related to them, not other unrelated aspects of the plot (if i sound critical of your work at time is not because i don't like it. Quite the opposite, the more i like something the more i tend to analize and nitpick it. But considering your whole project is built on basically that i think you can understand). However there are some reused aspects that are related to the villains plot, like the villain posing as a security guard, altough to me the fact that they are smuggling the goods in a different way still add some originality, but i fully understand this not being enough for you, as i said i still expected the score to be low, just not that low. I also expected stuff like the choice of the hideout and the idea of re painting the truck instead of moving the cash to a different one to be discussed in design as well. I still have an hard time understanding where you draw the line between design and operation at times. The way i see it, those are still aspects that factor into the plan of the villains.
As for the outfit, i recognize that you are right in calling them lazy, but at the same time the idea of coloring them like flavours of ice cream always standed out to me, i found that pretty creative funny and fitting to the location. I would have give them at least an additional point or half point for that.
Thinking about it, if Sammy the Shrimp had whore a mask to disguise as the guard, the egg in the face scene could have been clever foreshadowing assuming the mask was heat resistant.
I do think too that when the villains cornered the gang they where intending to kill them. And unlike other villain before Sammy's henchmen very much have the muscles to do so. As for the more obvious attempt i onestly didn't remember if they accidentaly locked themselves in the refrigerator room or if the ghosts trapped them.
I expected the 76 ghosts to get a one in design because i tought the money being whortless would have be factored there, instead it was judged as part of the operation. I can understand that since i get that in the design you are rating the idea of robbing the mint, while them going in the wrong room is a later mistake dobe during the execution phase. I was just confuses because in the revolutiary ghost episode you counted the fact that the treasure was wortless straight into the design (only not giving them one because the plan was low risk, wich is not the case here) but you admitted that you are not always consistent, and i fully understand that with a project so big that continue to evolve, i think it's fairer the way you did it here onestly. Also, i would call the scheme original. Yes, villains had tried to rob places before, but never the mint and never in this way. I think that if you get so critical when you judge originality, with the franchise going on would be harder and harder to find a money ganing scheme that is 100% original wich might be why later installment start having more diverse plots that do not necessarly involve money, but those could also get less points on the score as seen with revenge plots. Admittedly tough, i think most plots in the second season of this show are trully original with the ecception of two (or three depending on how specific you want to get) with only one not being monetary. But i won't spoil.
While i am not very knoweldgeble of american history i knew about Benedict Arnold thanks to a Fairly OddParents episodes. Never heard of the other two tough. The part in wich the security guard was before the three "statues" was very confusing to me. I didn't notice the other mistakes because i didn't keep track on who was wearing wich disguise (and in universe it could be excused as them switching up even if it's still sloppy from a writing prospective) but since i tried to guess who the villains where and i dismissed the nice security guard because of that. Also i think is very disonest to have three villains and three suspects only for one of the formers to be an unrelated guy. For those reasons and the lack of any true clues of their identities (wich was also a problem with the previous one) i don't think the mistery here was very well written.
Now it's time for Witch's Ghost. I am curious on how you would handle it since there are three undependent villains/groups of villains, and Sarah Ravencroft has goals that are very difficult to judge with your usual criteria. After that there are the first two episodes of the Scooby Doo show. The first is pretty uninteresting, but the second has what i considered one the most evil villain of the franchise for what i saw those far. But i don't know it that would result in a good DOO score. I am wainting for your future videos!
I definitely felt 'The Scooby-Doo Show' first season started strong, but seemed to run out of a bit of steam early on.
The confusion between Design and Operation is understandable, and honestly I struggle with it at times as well. In general, my rule of thumb is that "Design" focuses more on the initial planning of the scheme and its overall layout. In this situation, the idea of stealing an armored car and disguising it to sneak past the police, or scaring workers away from a factory in order to use the place as a hideout would be design-related.
Whereas "Operation" covers the actual carrying-out of the plan, in this case the actual stealing of the armored car and painting it as an ice cream delivery vehicle, or being so comfortable in the hideout that you'd take the time to fry up some eggs and bacon.
There have been plenty of times I've finished a huge section of my script only to realize that what I wrote should have been included in the "Operation" portion rather than the "Design", and vice versa. There are even occasions when it becomes difficult to separate the two areas during the writing portion, and I just leave it as is because an argument could be made that what I wrote could logically fit into either section.
I'm writing what are essentially opinion pieces and not appliance manuals, so at times what sounds and feels better has more merit than cold, hard surface itemization of the Scooby episode villain plot details. In fact, technically the "Outfit" could often be classified as part of the "Operation".
In the end it's going to be a judgment call during the scripting stage, and while I do my best to remain consistent, sometimes I'll have a different mindset while watching one episode versus another one later down the line.
I'm currently in the middle of scripting 'Witch's Ghost' and while I think I know how I'm going to proceed with the multi-villain angle, there's still a bit of wiggle room in my thought process.

As an aside, I've been out of high school for only 11 years now, took several history classes including Military History, and the names William DeMont and John Andre definitely didn't ring a liberty bell with me. It is, admittedly, partially my own fault given the American War for Independence is one of my favorite periods in history to study (right up there with Ancient Greece and World War 1), but I think the point makes itself. Whether that point is about the American education system or the relatively low impact DeMont and Andre had on history is up to you.
That's an excellent take! The three of them didn't have a significant impact on the United States, unlike other notorious villains like John Wilkes Booth or Jefferson Davis, so it does stand to reason knowledge of them would be relegated to those with a bent toward the more obscure moments of history.
