I mean Unmasked the scooby doo game had that monster design as a main enemy in the museum levels AND it was the final boss. So it certainly didnt go without love
It must have made an impression on James Gunn for him to have included it in the second live-action film, that's for certain. It surprised me that it got such a low score, though. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@JoeGoesOver I know that this is a children's show but it's normal for animals such as dogs to commit incest with each other in real life. Just look it up on the website. Incest isn't as taboo in the animal kingdom as it is in human beings. Trust me i cannot make this up.
Sadly, the only voice I'm reasonably capable of recreating is Cleveland from 'Family Guy', so it's not something that crops up often enough to impress people. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@JoeGoesOver I sensed it coming once I saw the picture, but I still busted out laughing. Also, I haven't gotten through the whole video yet but Booth was probably a reference to the Booth family of 19th century actors that included Edwin and John Wilkes.
I've been recently watching these episodes and a number of villains, minus a few, were actually in the show. Like, I had no idea the Skeleton Men had an episode!
@@zacharybartolo5111they apparently wanted to go even deeper by having more monsters from the shows, but the studio refused to let them use multiple practical costumes and demanded the majority of the monsters be CGI
Hanna-Barbera had a long history of talking dogs co-existing with humans. Huckleberry Hound, Auggie Doggie and Doggie Daddy, and Hong Kong Phooey immediately come to mind.
I think the logistics of Scooby Dee's professional situation might make more sense if one assumes the talking dog actors are treated a bit more like child actors rather than adult actors.
That's an interesting take. I'd add an additional element, though, that child actors are occasionally allowed to "divorce" from their parents, particularly in situations where the mom or dad are stealing all their money. In the real world, it's unlikely an animal actor would be legally allowed to do so, but in the Scooby-Dooniverse...? Thanks for watching, commenting and subscribing!
The Pterodactyl Ghost is one of my favourite Scooby Doo villains. Also I remember my father and auntie saying that the Pteranodon from Jonny Quest gave them nightmares.
I see you skipped a pet peeve of mine: people disconnecting train cars by simply pulling out a single slug of metal. In reality, trains were _never_ connected so simply, and especially not in the 70's; but even if they were, that slug would be shouldering a great deal of the train's weight and momentum, making it absolutely impossible to pull out, especially by hand. And, _and,_ even if they did, the sudden catastrophic loss of directed power would instantly cause at least one of the train cars to derail, more likely the whole train.
I get that the events of the live-action Scooby Doo movies are most likely non-canon to the cartoons, but I still think it's fun to imagine that Johnny Jacobo got so obsessed with getting revenge on Mystery Inc. after he was arrested for music piracy that he became a mad scientist devoted to creating real monsters in Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed and committed additional bank robberies as the Pterodactyl Ghost in order to fund his experiments.
That's always a possibility for the live action films as the Gang seemed to have had a long history of mystery solving even before the events of the first one! Thanks for watching, commenting and subscribing!
I'm not even that big of a 'Boston' fan, but when I got that cassette back in the 80s, I was amazed at how I already knew every song on the album due to radio airplay.
In the episode, "The Chiller Diller Movie Thriller", they should have had Phyllis Diller do a cameo at least. After all, she was no stranger to Scooby and the gang.
Haha "Oh sh** Math" had me laughing pretty good. Great as usual Joe. The Pterodactyl "Ghost" is absurd... and that random skeleton is creepy af... Also I will NEVER get tired of the "Heelocopter" Clip, hilarious everytime.
Thank you kindly! And I absolutely mean it when I say "math" like that. During the script-writing stage, whenever I realize I'm going to have to bust out the calculator (or in my case, the Windows app), I KNOW it's going to add another hour or more to the process! Thanks for watching, commenting and supporting my channel!
I think every GenX'er goes through their Elvis John phrase. I remember spending so many nights listening to hits like "Rocket Blues" and "Somebody Saved My Blue Suede Shoes."
For the most part, James Gunn did a good job adapting the older villains to the live action films. It's just a pity he didn't have as much pull back then as he does now, or we might have seen a lot more fan favorites! Thanks for watching and commenting!
7:52 Actually, depending on the universe, some ghosts can interact with the physical world via telekinesis or some other unknown means. Examples of this are the film "Ghost" and the remake "Thirteen Ghosts". This can make them MORE scary as they can hurt you, but without some form of special equipment or magic, you can't hurt them.
Hey, now! I'm already deeply struggling trying to maintain the natural laws of cartoon physics, don't be tossing in ectoplasmic shenanigans from other universes, too! Thanks for watching, commenting and subscribing!
Moss is obviously a Golden Age Batman fan, as his ghost's alleged motivation is the same as the original Clayface, Basil Karlo, in his very first appearance.
Past-their-prime Hollywood actors are a staple in fiction, apparently. Sometimes more sad than others, like Baby Doll (since we're talking about Batman already). Thanks for watching, commenting and subscribing!
33:32 While generally true, there would be exceptions with the robotic villains, who could be treated to remove the scent of the person who built them. The No-faced Zombie being a good example since they didn't meet the creator until caught at the end.
There would be a few villains who would be able to escape smell detection, especially the underwater ones. Not only would the water wash off their scent, but presumably they'd be in an airtight suit as well. Thanks for watching, commenting and subscribing!
There was nothing worse for my teenage self than having the radio DJ talk over the beginning and/or end of the song. I created so many mixed tapes from the radio and it was genuinely fun making them and waiting and waiting for the right songs to come along. The Scooby-Dee episode was never my favourite, it seemed silly for there to be an award winning actress in Scooby's family. Adding the additional dogs seemed to be their version of the Brady Bunch's cousin Oliver. Great analysis as always and have a wonderful day!
Thank you for the kind words! I was fortunate as a kid to have uncles who were massive music freaks (one actually ran his own DJ business at the time), so I usually had free access to the full albums of all the artists I liked to produce my own mix tapes as close to professional as possible! I still feel guilty that my first ever Weird Al album was a pirated cassette I made that way. To be fair, I've more than made it up to him with my purchases over the years, but still... Thanks for watching and subscribing!
I love the pterodactyl screech! It’s one of my favorite cartoon sound effects, along with the classic Incredible Hulk growl/roar and the Jetson flying car sound.
I had a hell of a time finding one that wasn't too hidden by the background music. I have a Hanna-Barbera sound effects catalog, but for the life of me I couldn't find that sound, despite it being used so often in those days! Thanks for watching, commenting and subscribing!
My personal headcanon is that scooby has some sort of disability that makes it so he has little, if any, sense of smell. That's why he can't immediately recognize the villains based on their scent.
Not bad headcanon, but Scooby is shown enough times in multiple series smelling or being attracted to things by scent, that at the very least he must be able to smell at a human level. There are times when the Gang even ask him to sniff a trail. If Scooby has any disability, it's a speech-impediment, considering every other talking dog they've shown so far speaks fairly coherent English. Thanks for watching and commenting!
the mystery machine turning up out of thin air to transport the gang? honestly, considering there was nobody in the driver's seat in another shot... are they riding about in a transformer?
Imagine it revealing itself to the gang- the gang have been investigating a scheme targeting oil wells, only to find out the Decepticons are behind it. Being chased by, let’s say, Starscream, the gang are cornered and get out of the Mystery Machine to try and find a hiding spot, only for their van to suddenly transform into an Autobot and kick Screamer’s butt. After explanations, the gang get to help the main Autobot crew stop the Cons plan
A Transformers/Scooby Doo crossover is something I would’ve never thought about before. I unfortunately have issues with that franchise considering I grew up with the live action Michael Bat movies, and you know what that does to someone who has never seen the cartoons..😕
31:44 Judging that Speed Buggy, Batman and Robin, Josie and The Pussycats, and the Addams Family takes place in the Same universe if the New Scooby Doo Movies were to believe (Not to Mention Speed Buggy and The Pussycats facing off Over-the-top Supervillains rather than Some dude with a Mask) Award-Winning Talking Canines were the least crazy thing in The Scoobiverse.
Thank god they don't take place in the Laff-a-Lypics universe as well, because that would just be going way too far! Thanks for watching and commenting!
34:39 I don't think they were jumping to conclusions about the monster being a phantom, Jim signed his threatening note as "The Phantom", so what else would they assume it was? Despite that, I was expecting him to get a low score regardless albeit not as low as he ended up getting. I will give him credit for actively leading the investigation to his own crime however, that let him give the kids instructions so he could further his plan under the guise of trying to help solve the case. Picking the disguise of the monster in the movie that was being remade was also a fitting choice.
'Phantoms' aren't always treated as ghosts in fiction. Sometimes they're just used to describe people with supernatural powers. Like 'The Phantom' from the old radio serials or the villain from 'The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen' film adaptation. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I love paleontology, so obviously I loved the Pterodactyl Ghost. Although, even as a child, I always wondered why "ghost" was forced into the creature's name. It never made sense!!!! Great video, Joe!!
Thank you very much for the kind words! Like many, I was big into dinosaurs as a kid. My first grade teacher was married to a reasonably-renowned paleontologist so he made a few visits to her classroom to discuss the subject. Thanks for watching!
I'm doing my best to try and stay as chronological as I can with the rankings, but sometimes the urge hits me to refer to something from 20+ years in the future! Thanks for watching, commenting and subscribing!
Aside from SD2 featuring both monsters in the museum, I think the Pterodactyl Ghost's episode would've been better if the plot revolved around a dig site, and either the radioactive minerals(which dino bones can be radioactive) brought the ghost of a Pterodactyl fossil to life, or rumors of them surviving today like the Ropen and Kongamato two Pterosaur like cryptids. As for Milo Booth I figured he got his name from Edwin and John Wilkes Booth, Edwin his brother was an actor of his time who actually save Robert Lincoln from an oncoming train.
If I had to guess, I'd also say they probably got the last name from the acting family, since it does sound like a credible name for a silent film star. I kept having to correct myself while writing the script because I kept typing "Milo BLOOM". I was such a fan of the 'Bloom County' comic strip and he's who I always think of when I hear the name "Milo". Thanks for watching and commenting!
These videos are all great but the thing that keeps me coming back is the unrelated spoiler at the beginning of the video😂 That’s always such a good gag
I'm glad you like them, but I'm not gonna lie: there are times when I deeply regret starting that, because I spend way too much time trying to think of a film or TV show to include! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Been a while since I’ve seen one of the movies you’ve spoiled. I’ve unfortunately seen far too many Saw Films at this point. Hanna Barbera loves that Turu/Condor screech. Was extremely curious how you would address the cousin situation, I have to wonder how kids felt watching that episode, I know I was caught off guard. Hopefully it didn’t influence anyone. That was a Scooby doo impression of all time… but I wouldn’t have the courage to try. Surprised you didn’t mention James Gunns retelling of the Pterodactyl ghost case. Fred benching two twenty is a hilarious reference. This also wouldn’t be the last time we see him on a hang glider. Loved the episode as always, great way to start my day! The running jokes are layering and layering up, pretty soon this series is going to be akin to Harvey Birdman’s later seasons. And I’m here for it.
There's a danger of doing TOO many running jokes, though. I actually cut a few out when doing my final script revisions! I've got a Hanna-Barbera sound effect catalog, and to my amazement that bird cry was NOT on it anywhere! Or if it was, it's not labeled good enough for me to find. I had to dig to find a decent cry that wasn't overwhelmed by the background score. Though not always successful, I'm trying to keep my references to other Scooby episodes in as chronological order as possible. It would be a lot easier for me to reference episodes that I've already discussed rather than try and hunt through future series looking for parallels. You're very kind about my Scooby impersonation, but it was god awful. That was literally the best take of like, half a dozen or more! Thank you very much for your nice comments and for watching!
@@JoeGoesOver Sometimes roughness adds to the charm! I have to wonder, are you planning to tackle the Scrappy Doo show? Or are we skipping straight to What’s New?
I get asked that question a lot. I'm not sure how to proceed since much of the Scrappy era seems to avoid the typical Scooby formula of mystery solving and a bad guy in the mask and just toss Shaggy, Scooby and Him into inane circumstances. I'm guessing I'd skip any of the series that don't fit the usual formula. It's difficult to rate a Scooby villain if, you know, they don't ACT like a Scooby villain.
33:45 If you want to get pedantic about it, it should be "Carl smells like the Ape Man" and not the other way around. He saw the Ape Man attacking Candy on the bridge first then later found Carl in the trunk.
I think that Fred’s tussle with Milo Booth, brief and paltry as it was, may be the only time in franchise history we see a physical altercation between a member of the gang and a villain.
I forgot that! So there are two such examples then. Also I recall the time the boys tried to tackle the ghost of Vasquez Castle. 2 altercations and 1 attempted altercation by my count.
To be pedantic, they could be more distant cousins and not as icky, but I doubt the Scooby writers imagined them as ninth cousins or something without saying they're *distant* cousins. So yeah... weird. Maybe the writers took their dating tips from the House of Habsburg. I think the Pterodactyl is pretty cool but it's certainly not a ghost and wow that scheme was dumb. Also, just as a little note, some second hand stores do buy bootleg records, though they're usually marked as not being official. "Rucking Rarl the Runtman" made my day. Great video as always!
Thank you for the nice comments! And now I have the "Habsburg Nose" stuck in my head. Not exactly nightmare fuel, but not something I want taking up my brain's streaming video, either. Thanks for watching and subscribing!
Thank you kindly! I'll do my best! I'm currently working on a script for a different Scooby project, but after that I'll get right back to 'The Scooby-Doo Show'! Thanks for watching!
Sadly, that was the best take I could get from over half a dozen. I can do a passable Cleveland from 'Family Guy', but Scooby is a bit above my paygrade for voice acting. Thanks for watching and commenting!
0:25 -- Would you mind doing a quick analysis of Jigsaw? When I heard that he was the supposedly dead body in the first movie, that somehow the two other guys never noticed him breathing, it just took me right out of the series even more than the gory MacGyver traps did.
Slasher flicks and torture porn are just a wee bit out of my bailiwick. It doesn't help that, from what I've heard, they keep changing Jigsaw's history and motivations, like what they did to Michael Myers. Thanks for watching, commenting and subscribing!
Conversely integent dogs being the norm means that Shaggy is probably not labale for Scooby's recklessness. If they are normal here Scooby is acuable for himself.
Years ago when I did some videos examining the crimes committed in the Scooby-Dooniverse, I believe I chose to treat Scooby as a person as well, otherwise anything he did would be excused as him just being a dog. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Wait a minute, an actor is enraged by his greatest movie being remade and goes after the cast of the remake, all while dressed in a trench coat and hat with matching colors and a creepy mask.....Why does that sound......familiar? In all seriousness, the cover story Moss concocted is beat for beat the plot of the first Batman comic to feature Clayface, except instead of an actor actually doing this while dressed as the character from the movie in question, it's someone else dressed as an already dead actor with a secret agenda. At least we know the writers had good taste in comics.
You're the second one in the comments to bring up the Clayface parallels. To be fair, both seemed to borrow heavily from 'Phantom of the Opera', so that's just as likely as the Scooby writers taking from Batman. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Ghost of Milo Booth's always bugged me since childhood, cause he's clearly Vampire, or old slavic type Wraith , seeing that teeth, red eyese, gaunt face and missing body. Good to see that someone finally pointed this out. Also i did,t catch what's with executive producer surname, is that some kind of easter egg?
The executive's name was "Mr. Mogul", and a "mogul" is what you call a powerful person in the entertainment industry. They weren't even TRYING this time around! Sheesh! Thanks for watching, commenting and subscribing!
I know he was a popular villain, but the plan just wasn't that great. It hurt to rank him so low knowing he was a fan favorite, but I have to do my best to stay unbiased! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Grwat vid as always! The reason i think they always said the pterodactyl was a "ghost" was because i thought they said they were supposed to be extinct.
I don't buy that, as the Gang runs into monsters all the time. And since by this point they didn't know about the half-man/half-pterodactyl race, they should have just assumed it was just another corporeal threat. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I meant it when saying that every Scooby villain is someone's favorite out there, which is why I always feel uncomfortable when I end up rating them so low! Thanks for watching and commenting!
He may be a rehash but I will admit to preferring Mr. Bohannon over Mr. Greenway. Mainly because he doesn't laugh every other sentence. 5:08 To be fair, they haven't heard the legend from Mr. Bohannon yet so as far as they know this creature should've been long extinct. That would indeed make it a ghost. 11:31 Didn't it get destroyed in the viking episode?
Agreed. Mr. Greenway's constant laughter got old. The Scooby Bike-o-Copter did get wrecked, but you're telling me they wouldn't have replaced it by now? Cowards like the boys should always have an escape route planned for any situation! Thanks for watching and commenting!
There are times that I argue myself into disliking a previously-enjoyed villain or giving one that I thought was awful a much higher ranking than expected. My ability at playing devil's advocate drives my friends crazy at times, so I guess it's only fair that I do it to myself, too! Thanks for watching, commenting and subscribing!
There's no accounting for our tastes at times. When I get the urge to watch classic 'Star Trek', I'll inevitably put on "A Piece of the Action", which is not exactly a fan-favorite, but it's my personal preference. Thanks for watching and commenting!
The Pterodactyl Ghost having an almost identical set up to the Snow Ghost episode is funny. I’m curious how the writers decided to rehash the episode but with a Pterodactyl. As for Milo Booth’s Ghost, Jim Moss may be dumber than Carl the Stuntman, a feat I thought to be close to impossible, though the baseball loving guy that made the Phantom Virus, who also liked baseball, might be up there as well. Very low scoring episode, I’m hoping the villains step it up for the next episode.
Try not to spoil the film. I remember him saying something along the lines of him not remembering it and Alien Invaders in response to one of my comments on the Witch's Ghost video.
I hope they do as well. Knowing that every villain is a favorite for someone, I prefer being able to give out high scores. Sadly, I can't always do that. I just couldn't believe how two in a row were just so bad! Thanks for watching and commenting!
I imagined how gang trying to explain they know who did this based on what Scooby said becomes funny the instant you think about them explaining how they know as their dog told them so
Your videos are so freaking good. It's so high quality and you must put a lot of work into your videos. You also seem like such a nice person. I watched Scooby doo when I was a kid, and 24 years later i get to watch your videos and be taken back to my childhood, and also get information I didn't know from before. I often rewatch your videos and get exited when you post. Thank you for making videos!
Thank you kindly! I do spend quite a bit of time on them, usually anywhere from 30-40 hours, between the writing, filming and editing. Not to mention the encoding, uploading and, if hit with a content match, RE-encoding and RE-uploading. The writing takes a while because it sometimes involves researching product prices from the 1970s, or painstakingly combing through other Scooby episodes looking for one scene I think I vaguely remember that might be important to the point I'm trying to make. Or in the case of this episode, looking up hang glider statistics trying to find the average carrying capacity, or finding a definitive source that would tell me how much a vinyl album weighs. It absolutely means the world to me when people seem to enjoy what I'm doing enough to let me know! Thanks for watching and subscribing!
Keep up the good work Joe I'm here every time you post a new one. Let's hope soon we get to stuff like what's new and mystery incorporated because those have some of my favorite monsters like Dead Justice and the mummy of ankha ❤❤❤❤
'Mystery Inc.' is definitely my favorite Scooby series, but sadly that's still quite a way off. If there were only two of me, I could get there quicker! (insert fat joke here) Thanks for watching and commenting!
I noticed how law enforcement is in the Scooby-Doo Universe, at least this one. They never have firearms that's completely BS considering US law enforcement.
If you ever do merch, I need a shirt that says ‘Carl the stuntman.’ With the scooby doo eyes that looks annoyed above the saying. It makes me laugh every time. It’s what I look forward to seeing in every video 😂
I have given it some thought and a Carl the Stuntman shirt would likely be one of the first if I did so. I designed the Space Kook and Professor Pericles shirt you might see occasionally, but those are a single run for just me and my daughter, so I don't worry about copyright issues. I still had to use an overseas printer to do those as stateside ones didn't want to run the risk. It'd be a lot trickier to do that for selling merch unless I contracted with an artist to draw a rendition from scratch that would avoid the issue. I have done a little bit of research as to the costs involved with ordering a commission from a few artists who do stuff for other UA-cam creators and while it's not extremely expensive, it's still a bit more than I'm able to justify for my channel size. I've been toying with ideas as to celebrate hitting 10K subs (IF AND WHEN, I should stress), and in addition to producing a "making of" video showing what it looks like creating my stuff from this end, I've also considered doing a limited T-shirt run. That's still far in the future, but I'm glad to come across the occasional comment letting me know there might be interest in it. Thanks for watching, commenting and subscribing!
@@JoeGoesOver Absolutely! Because those spooky ghost eyes in some of the openings that can look annoyed with that statement…the thought has me rolling! Imagine if the eyes were glow in the dark ah, amusement at its finest. And thank you for the great videos! I enjoy every single one of them and the work you put into them. You should be very proud of yourself.
It's interesting to note that despite Jim being introduced as the studio chief by Mr. Mogul, Shaggy refers to him as a detective when he's unmasked. That line combined with the fact that he's introduced after Dee finds the threatening note and how he seems to be in charge of the investigation leads me to wonder if there was a rewrite at some point. It seems possible that he was originally the detective called in to investigate the threat instead of the studio chief and they forgot to change Shaggy's line, it would mean that he wasn't making any money off of Dee's movies beforehand which could explain how he intended to profit from the kidnapping, by acting as her manager or coach going forwards.
Good catch! I'm surprised I missed that. Your theory wouldn't surprise me. So much of this era of the Scooby franchise feels like it suffered from sloppy re-writes. Thanks for watching and commenting!
To be fair, in that situation Jacobo was already imprisoned, so that universe's Pterodactyl Ghost mystery was already solved. Thanks for watching and commenting!
That’s one think I kinda love about Monsters Unleashed, the costumes in the museum are either too good or are so obviously not real. Like the brief moments where we see The 10,000 Volt Ghost costume it is so obviously just a glowing rubber suit
Thank you very much for saying so! I appreciate the enthusiasm! They do take quite a bit of effort, so nice comments like this keep me motivated! Thanks for watching!
It's nuts, right? I mean, in real life, a sentient, talking dog would be right up there with alien visitation or the Second Coming. Here it's like, "Huh. Talking dog. Boooooring." Thanks for watching and commenting!
I'm a firm believer in the Scooby-Dooniverse where every series or film takes place in its own separate universe. Otherwise, Scooby would be pushing 350 in dog years. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I can sort of see where you're coming from. Give him a mustache and he could have been Inspector Gadget from the pilot episode! Thanks for watching, commenting and subscribing!
A family mausoleum like that actually is likely to have empty spaces for future family, but yeah the center one for the most famous family member shouldn't have been empty.
30:35 With Mystery Incorporated revealed Scooby's alien origin and how all mythological sentient animals are actually descendents of said alien, this actually make sense. 33:50 F*k Carl the Stuntman. 😂
Lovely ranking as always! This really helped me seeing this today as I have another funeral to go to later today 😭 so thank you for helping me Your Carl the Stuntman bit was even funnier in this with Scoobys voice As for my ranking 1) Phantom of Milo Booth and Fake Scooby Dee 2) Pterodactyl ghost
Ugh, I'm sorry you're going through that! Try your best to keep as positive an attitude as you can, but grieve in whatever way brings you the most comfort! I'm happy to have provided whatever tiny distraction I could!
@@JoeGoesOverthanks its truly horrible :( in my entire life (I'm 19) before 2024 I've been to 2 funerals, this year I've been to 3 already. I didn't know Michelle very well I only saw her once or twice but I went to support my mom and family friends. Also... you thought this year couldn't throw anything else my way? Someone else I know is dying she's got days at best, she's not someone i was close with I only saw her a few times but of course any death is sad especially 5 in one year. However, I do have some good news though. My eye has been drooping for a while which is a sign my dermoid cyst is back, I had a check up yesterday and IT ISNT BACK You always provide loads of comfort thank you so much
I was well into my teens before my first funeral and it was the husband of one of my mother's friends. I had met the guy once but that was it. The first funeral for a loved one was well into my thirties. I still have one grandparent living and they're in their mid-90s. The worst funeral was for a good friend who shot himself back in 2010. Not that ANY funeral is exactly a ball of laughs. After a bunch of surgeries and going through mild cancer, I'm fairly blasé about death anymore which, I realize, is NOT how everyone feels so I have to be very careful when discussing it with others. I'm like that about cancer as well, which I also learned is not something everyone else feels comfortable laughing about, regardless of whether or not it's a cancer survivor making the joke. Mourning is entirely about the ones left behind and their feelings should always be what's kept most important, but it is still odd for someone as young as you having to deal with so much death, even if the ones who passed may be only tangentially related. I'm assuming you're not in one of the, uh, "less peaceful" parts of the world where, sadly, children live with death all around them. Not as though that is good either. NO CHILD should have to deal with mortality at such a young age. I'm glad your eye issue isn't as bad as you suspected. It's always a relief getting good medical news! I'm also glad that I can provide some emotional relief, regardless of how little it is. Often, all we need to feel better is just to be distracted, and a whole bunch of little distractions can equal one big one.
@JoeGoesOver thank goodness you was in your teens when you went to your first one, it's never good going to any but at least you didn't have to go any super young. My first one was when I was 8 or 9 for my grandad who died of cancer, I don't have many memories of him sadly :( I'm so sorry about your friend from 2010 I cannot imagine how horrifying and heartbreaking that must've been 💔 I've had to have a few surgery's before too, I've had 2 dermoid cysts before. One was removed in 2009 if I remember correctly? They removed 99% of it, the 1% left shouldn't have come back that's why it was left and they said if I hadn't had that 99% removed I'd have died... as for that 1% I think you know where the 2nd dermoid cyst came from... it was fully removed in 2021 this time. We had 2 scares about it being back after too though. Last year we had a scare but it was all fine what happened is normal to happen within the first year or 2, although I feel guilty as the day after I got the all clear I found out my dad was on the cancer pathway so I feel guilty since I survived my health scare yet my dad died. Then I had another earlier this year but that was down to stress after everything Thankfully I don't live in one of the less peaceful parts of the world I live in the UK. I count myself lucky to not be in one of those parts... it breaks my heart thinking about all those who live there nobody should have to live the way they have to every single day. Thanks ^^ it definitely is good to have good news for once this year Oh yeah definitely a distraction really helps no matter how small even if it's just a distraction for a minute that makes a minute slightly easier
Possibly? My wife and I played a lot of the hidden object search games years ago, but I just Googled a random screenshot from one of them for my video. I mean, not to be MEAN, but if you play one hidden object game, you pretty much played them all. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Ok not gonna lie ,but i totally forgot about the Milo Booth episode ,the only thing i remembered from this episode was Scooby-Dee, not the plot or the villain outfit ( which is weird because I don't think i could ever forget that face ) just Scooby-Dee and the train . On the topic of dogs in the Scooby multiverse and their agency : I believe that dogs in the Scooby multiverse are generally more intelligent that the dogs we know ,even if they don't speak, a trait which is mostly associated with the Scooby family ,many of them display signs of greater intelligence than the average dog .Examples that come to mind are Chiquita from the Monster of Mexico ,those six Golden Retriever puppies from the What's New series , the same episode where those six pups debuted also had a more intelligent dog as a villain etc. I will also like to add that we also saw an example of an alien disguised as a dog (Amber) As a sidenote the originality factor that is used when judging the design and outfit of the villain is strange to me ,because it feels more like the writers fault than the villain's fault .If we were judging the episode itself then fair point, but we are judging the villain and his/her scheme and it would be impossible for a villain to know that another villain had a similar plan and/or costume in the past ,especially if we go by the theory that every Scooby series it's a separate universe Anyway ,enough rambling ,great analysis as expected and thanks for all the effort you put into these videos
While I realize on the surface it seems unfair to judge the villain for their originality, considering they'd have no idea that a guy across the country from a different Scooby series from eight years earlier had a very similar costume, remember the villain is just a construct of the writer and animators. I'm clearly judging the creators for their originality (or lack thereof), but that's fine because, in a way, it could be said I'm ranking the people who made the villain as much as the villain themselves. It's not too dissimilar to judging a parent based on their child's actions. Cartoon characters don't have free will, so in the end, their entire being is merely an extension of everyone who had a part in their creation. Thanks for such a thoughtful comment and I hope I put to rest the debate on judging a villain's originality. Thanks for watching as well!
6:16 to 6:25 6:32 well it has been shown many times that there are real monsters and ghosts in the Scooby Doo Universe. 6:35 if so then that means this is an episode where the gang missed a mystery. 24:24 Possibly. But that would mean this is another episode where not all the bad guys were caught.
This has happened a few times over the years. I'm still convinced the sheep rustler disguised as a werewolf was just a patsy. If I had the ability to write a TV script, I'd totally want to do a story based on that poor schmuck. Thanks for watching and commenting!
It's not a coincidence. In his first appearance back in X-Men #60, he literally says he's naming himself "Sauron" after the character in 'The Lord of the Rings'. You can read it here (if the link works): readcomiconline.li/Comic/Uncanny-X-Men-1963/Issue-60?id=23277#16
Mr. Morbley is one rough looking customer. If I were starting a crime syndicate, I’d totally want him on my team. He’s as intimidating as all get out. He seems like the type who’s good at both giving and taking abuse. He also strikes me as the kind of guy who knows how to keep his mouth shut.
I toyed with suggesting he was a co-conspirator, but the only thing he did in the episode was burn potential evidence, and that could be dismissed as simply doing his job of disposing of garbage around the ranch. It'd have been different if he'd been seen in the flashback behind Johnny as opposed to that mysterious third man.
It never ceases to amaze me how many more cryptids exist in this world that 'In Search Of...' never even TOUCHED on! For what it's worth, I grew up in a small town that had it's own cryptid. Local legend has it that a farmer saw a monster turtle (not as big as Gamera, but much, much larger than a normal turtle or tortoise would be). The town really leaned into it, dubbing themselves "Turtle Town" and having annual celebrations called "Turtle Days". They even had a sculpture of a giant turtle on the main drag. Thanks for watching, commenting and subscribing!
If they needed a creature that could give the impression of flying to create the myth.....why choose a humanoid pterodactyl? They could invent something simpler, which could be much scarier and fit better with the environment.
Agreed. They might have been better off with a vulture monster or eagle monster or other more contemporary animal to anthropomorphize. Then again, dinosaurs (and the like) have a certain coolness factor that shouldn't be discounted! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Scooby Doo and Scooby Dum hørny for kisses from Scooby Dee. Umm... This is their cousin! I mean, I've heard of "kissing cousins" before, but Zoinks! You might have stumbled onto your next catchphrase, to go along with "Carl the f*¢king Stuntman": "You know they're cousins, right?"
About the Milo Booth episode it did creep me out for the Phantom and that when he dognaps Dee with the princess and pauper scene, he is pretty similar to the next villain the Phantom Racer because he has reddish pink eyes, wearing blue and a terrifying face and voice. Scooby Dee and Scooby Dumb what is with the Alice in Wonderland reference? Yes he more like a vampire than a ghost and what is the difference between ghosts and phantoms?
As far as the dictionary is concerned, there is no difference between "ghost" and "phantom", though the latter seems to be the preferred self-identifier used by gentleman thieves. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@JoeGoesOverseeing that the video is definitely a remake of a classic Scooby episode and remember I said the monster from the Future about the connection to the Morlocks and for the Mantis episode I suggest the Island of Dr Moreau because saying that it was created by in a laboratory that it is a human/mantis hybrid just as Dr Moreau created human/animal hybrids through science.
I know the Pterodactyl Ghost played a prominent role, but I can't recall the Phantom of Milo Booth in it. Regardless, thank you for watching and commenting!
That would be nice, but I wouldn't expect it. Warner Bros. and all the other studios are way, WAY more into streaming services than physical media. Thanks for watching and commenting!
The fact the Pterodactyl ghost story is completely revised for the second live action movie. It definitely means the timeline likely resets with each animation style imho. Which is good because there are a few recent animated movies and shows I pretend don't exist.
Hang In There Scooby-Doo is one of my favorite episodes of the series. The pterodactyl creature is pretty creepy, and that screech is terrifying, although I wonder how he was able to make that sound. Probably had a tape he played. 😅 I also wondered why they called it a ghost since we don't call legendary creatures like Bigfoot or the Lochness Monster ghosts. I guess cryptid maybe? Anyway, it's Scooby-Doo so you just roll with it.
There is definitely a certain amount of "suspension of disbelief" needed for Scooby-Doo. Some episodes need a bit more than others, admittedly. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Excellent work as always, next time we get into the really good shit. I could easily be wrong but I feel confident that the Phantom Racer will score at least a 4/5, which would go a long way in balancing out the low scores this time around. He just feels like he has a lot going for him, even the way he handled kidnapping seemed pretty clever. Witch McCoy I imagine will get an average score at best since the episode is essentially a remake in the same vein as the Pterodactyl episode but it's still in my top three episodes of this series.
We'll see eventually! My next script is for a different Scooby project, but once that's finished, I'll get started on the next two episodes of 'The Scooby-Doo Show'. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I mean Scooby Dee did have a southern accent and Scooby Dumb was from Louisiana so… I mean we could safe to say that the doo family may have originated in the southern parts of the USA. I don’t want say the south famous for inbreeding but given the fact they’re dogs and I know a few breeders using dogs from the same litter to breed and the fact that literally two of the many relatives of Scooby are from the south…
This was an angle several have broached in the comments, and while I want to be... polite?... I must admit a certain amount of... negative feelings?...I have for much of that region of the United States. It's probably best that I don't dwell on the obvious 'Deliverance' undertones. Thanks for watching, commenting and subscribing!
I did my best to present my case that all he had going for him was the face. It's always tricky when rating aesthetics, which is why I try to also discuss the practicality of a costume as well as it's originality and how much it "sells" being a ghost (i.e., special effects). Regardless of our disagreement, thanks for watching and commenting!
6:19-6:40 either the skeleton died and doesn’t even know he died (based on his reaction to the cave being haunted) or Hanna-Barbara had plans for this skeleton that were cancelled and they used it as a gag in an episode they were already working on. I think the former is possible cause Scooby Doo already has supernatural occurrences alongside cases of men pretending to be ghosts and ghouls. The New Scooby Doo Movies literally have characters that wouldn’t even exist in real life (Batman & Robin, The Addams Family, Jeanie), not to mention Scooby himself is a talking sentient dog with human levels of immunity to chocolate, so an undead skeleton who doesn’t even know he’s dead and ran away from a haunted cave is part of for the course..
You may be giving Hanna-Barbera too much credit. I think the writers just had a hole in their script to fill, said, "Eh, the hell with it," and added the talking, running skeletons. It hurts to admit, but I don't think they respected their audience a whole heck of a lot in the early days.
I'm curious Joe, will you cover 'The Reluctant Werewolf' at some point in the future? I ask this because it's such a unique Scooby Doo film, all the monsters are real and have their own unique personalities. I imagine you will only cover Count Dracula, if you do decide to do it, as he's the main antagonist and the rest of the monsters and villains are just minor secondary antagonists if you want to call them that. 'The Reluctant Werewolf' was the first Scooby Doo movie I ever seen as a kid, I know I said last time that Milo Booth was the first villain from the franchise I ever seen but that was shortly before I watched 'Reluctant Werewolf'. Anyway looking forward to seeing The Phantom Racer and Witch McCoy and The Zombie Man in the next video after your next movie villain.
I'm not ruling out anything at this point, though I admit the Red Shirt Shaggy era isn't my favorite of the franchise. On the plus side, I'm almost halfway through with the script for my next one, so Phantom Racer is imminent! Thanks for watching and commenting!
I would also enjoy a look at the Goblin King, the Abracadabradoo movie, or even the WWW movie that features John Cena, or Legend Of The Phantasour, or the Supernatural crossover I never got to see. The last two are exciting, the former cause Phantasour is the movie that literally introduced the world to Ultra Instinct Shaggy, and the latter cause the idea of making a joke about Dean Winchester’s actor Jensen Ackles being the new actor of Batman after the gang already met Batman 4 times (5 now thanks to Scooby Doo & Guess Who) is too good to pass up. Let the excitement begin!
The stone carving of Scooby and the pterodactyl reminds me of that time I drew a picture confessing to accidentally getting onto my behavior therapist’s car as a kid but since I had already intentionally done it twice before and after that little mishap while she was on the phone and I didn’t want to interrupt her, she got somewhat mad at me anyway. Maybe the pterodactyl saw the gang as little kids and decided carving out a kidnapping ransom note on the wall would sell the disguise. That is still an awfully impressive work of art for how well Johnny managed to draw Scooby in stone..
It sure seems that way, doesn't it? Again, I try my best to stay impartial, but even I was worried about how low these guys ranked together! Thanks for your kind words and for watching!
The Pterodactyl is probably one of this series' most iconic villains, despite the episode never gaining much popularity.
I mean Unmasked the scooby doo game had that monster design as a main enemy in the museum levels AND it was the final boss. So it certainly didnt go without love
It showed up in the live action movie, so I can agree it is iconic.
It must have made an impression on James Gunn for him to have included it in the second live-action film, that's for certain.
It surprised me that it got such a low score, though.

@@JoeGoesOver I know that this is a children's show but it's normal for animals such as dogs to commit incest with each other in real life. Just look it up on the website. Incest isn't as taboo in the animal kingdom as it is in human beings. Trust me i cannot make this up.
33:51 You saying "F*cking Carl the Stunt Man" while doing a Scooby Impression is something I never thought I needed until you did it

I almost included that in my script, but it was getting pretty long already!
I never realized the pterodactyl ghost had an actual episode. It's the deepest cut among the references in Scooby Doo 2.
I've been recently watching these episodes and a number of villains, minus a few, were actually in the show. Like, I had no idea the Skeleton Men had an episode!
That's James Gunn for you.
The guy definitely loves his deep cuts.

True, but those were more fantastical shows, whereas the Scooby-Dooniverse (at least in the beginning) tended to be more grounded in reality.
I mean the live action version of the pterodactyl ghost had a more ragged, undead appearance, but that doesn't really apply here.
Not really, nope.

In Mystery Incorporated defense, pterodactyls are presumed to be extinct, so seeing one could make you think you're seeing a ghost.
I guess, but they're still AWFULLY quick to go the "ghost" route!
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Actually, it was stated in this episode that "pterodactyls evolved into pterodactyl people", so it'd be more of a cryptid rather than a ghost

I see you skipped a pet peeve of mine: people disconnecting train cars by simply pulling out a single slug of metal. In reality, trains were _never_ connected so simply, and especially not in the 70's; but even if they were, that slug would be shouldering a great deal of the train's weight and momentum, making it absolutely impossible to pull out, especially by hand. And, _and,_ even if they did, the sudden catastrophic loss of directed power would instantly cause at least one of the train cars to derail, more likely the whole train.
Hah! I almost mentioned that, actually! It really is annoying!

Yeah…can’t argue with that.
Not gonna lie. Every time I was dealing with that title, I kept thinking about her and hearing that "Ahh... hah... HAH..." laugh of hers!

Examples of this are the film "Ghost" and the remake "Thirteen Ghosts". This can make them MORE scary as they can hurt you, but without some form of special equipment or magic, you can't hurt them.

Been a while since I’ve seen one of the movies you’ve spoiled. I’ve unfortunately seen far too many Saw Films at this point.
Hanna Barbera loves that Turu/Condor screech.

Its Fred's self driving Van like Kitt ha ha😂
There would be future episodes that examine that idea!

Sheesh!

pterodactyl ghost is one of my all time favorites.
edit phantom of milo booth i enjoy as well even though i didnt grow up with him
I know he was a popular villain, but the plan just wasn't that great.
@@JoeGoesOver yeah that fair. I was just trying to think up some kinda reasoning where there wasn't. No problem keep up the great work!
He might have a low score, but the pterodactyl ghost is a memorable one for me. Maybe it’s because i used to be a dinosaur/prehistoric nut
I meant it when saying that every Scooby villain is someone's favorite out there, which is why I always feel uncomfortable when I end up rating them so low!

Thanks Joe. You the man
And thank YOU for watching, commenting and supporting my channel!

That sure was quite a drop from the first too, is interesting to see how they change from episode to episode
There are times that I argue myself into disliking a previously-enjoyed villain or giving one that I thought was awful a much higher ranking than expected.
My ability at playing devil's advocate drives my friends crazy at times, so I guess it's only fair that I do it to myself, too!

Idk why but the hang gliding episode is the one I rewatch the most
There's no accounting for our tastes at times.
I imagined how gang trying to explain they know who did this based on what Scooby said becomes funny the instant you think about them explaining how they know as their dog told them so
It would certainly open up strange new case laws in the legal system, wouldn't it?

@@JoeGoesOver I meant in in a way that everyone would think they are crazy, especially with how Shaggy is a stoner
It would be difficult to take anyone seriously who dresses like Shaggy or wears an ascot like Fred.

Keep up the good work Joe I'm here every time you post a new one. Let's hope soon we get to stuff like what's new and mystery incorporated because those have some of my favorite monsters like Dead Justice and the mummy of ankha

I noticed how law enforcement is in the Scooby-Doo Universe, at least this one. They never have firearms that's completely BS considering US law enforcement.
If they got too realistic with U.S. law enforcement, though, Scooby would be in danger every single episode!

What's funny, is when they show the Pterodactyl ghost in SCOOBY DOO Monsters Unleashed
They make it very Apparent that it was just a costume
To be fair, in that situation Jacobo was already imprisoned, so that universe's Pterodactyl Ghost mystery was already solved.

That’s one think I kinda love about Monsters Unleashed, the costumes in the museum are either too good or are so obviously not real. Like the brief moments where we see The 10,000 Volt Ghost costume it is so obviously just a glowing rubber suit

I love that everyone else doesn't react to a talking dog.
It's nuts, right?
I mean, in real life, a sentient, talking dog would be right up there with alien visitation or the Second Coming.
Here it's like, "Huh. Talking dog. Boooooring."
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Isn't scooby doo an alien that didn't know he was which says that most "dogs" are aliens if they can talk but don't know it
I'm a firm believer in the Scooby-Dooniverse where every series or film takes place in its own separate universe.
Otherwise, Scooby would be pushing 350 in dog years.

A family mausoleum like that actually is likely to have empty spaces for future family, but yeah the center one for the most famous family member shouldn't have been empty.

2) Pterodactyl ghost
My eye has been drooping for a while which is a sign my dermoid cyst is back, I had a check up yesterday and IT ISNT BACK
You always provide loads of comfort thank you so much
I was well into my teens before my first funeral and it was the husband of one of my mother's friends.
My first one was when I was 8 or 9 for my grandad who died of cancer, I don't have many memories of him sadly :( I'm so sorry about your friend from 2010 I cannot imagine how horrifying and heartbreaking that must've been 💔
I've had to have a few surgery's before too, I've had 2 dermoid cysts before. Then I had another earlier this year but that was down to stress after everything
Thankfully I don't live in one of the less peaceful parts of the world I live in the UK. I count myself lucky to not be in one of those parts... it breaks my heart thinking about all those who live there nobody should have to live the way they have to every single day.
Thanks ^^ it definitely is good to have good news for once this year
Oh yeah definitely a distraction really helps no matter how small even if it's just a distraction for a minute that makes a minute slightly easier
26:09 is that Mystery legend?
Possibly? My wife and I played a lot of the hidden object search games years ago, but I just Googled a random screenshot from one of them for my video.
I mean, not to be MEAN, but if you play one hidden object game, you pretty much played them all.

I will also like to add that we also saw an example of an alien disguised as a dog (Amber)
As a sidenote the originality factor that is used when judging the design and outfit of the villain is strange to me ,because it feels more like the writers fault than the villain's fault .If we were judging the episode itself then fair point, but we are judging the villain and his/her scheme and it would be impossible for a villain to know that another villain had a similar plan and/or costume in the past ,especially if we go by the theory that every Scooby series it's a separate universe
Anyway ,enough rambling ,great analysis as expected and thanks for all the effort you put into these videos
If the logic is going by real dog biology dee kissing doo and dum isn't that weird or the grossest thing they could do
While true, we're dealing with SENTIENT dogs here, which makes it problematic at the very, very least!
6:16 to 6:25
6:32 well it has been shown many times that there are real monsters and ghosts in the Scooby Doo Universe.

The Marvel character's name is pronounced "sore-ron" like Dinosaur. Having the same name as Tolkein's dark lord is just coincidence.
Nice! Watching the beginning on my phone because I already started my "coffee" when I got the notification.
Glad you like it!

The pterodactyl ghost likely drew inspiration from the mysterious cryptid/entity called the Van Meter Visitor.

@@JoeGoesOversounds like the Ogua.

Scooby Doo and Scooby Dum hørny for kisses from Scooby Dee.

@@JoeGoesOver Wait, does that actually happen later?

The fact the Pterodactyl ghost story is completely revised for the second live action movie. It definitely means the timeline likely resets with each animation style imho. Which is good because there are a few recent animated movies and shows I pretend don't exist.

@@JoeGoesOver and the retcon of the 13th ghost
I remember watching a Fred Flintstone episode where Wilma and Betty were doing a dance called the pterodactyl😂
My next script is for a different Scooby project, but once that's finished, I'll get started on the next two episodes of 'The Scooby-Doo Show'.

maybe the skeleton was hinting at the zombie island movie
I always agree to your outfit ratings but putting Milo booth at a 1.5 for outfit is just criminal
Come on at least a 3
6:19-6:40 either the skeleton died and doesn’t even know he died (based on his reaction to the cave being haunted) or Hanna-Barbara had plans for this skeleton that were cancelled and they used it as a gag in an episode they were already working on.
Thanks for the amazing video ❤
Thanks for the amazing comment! ♥
And for watching!
Another great breakdown, Joe. This has to be the lowest combined score for your rankings in a single video, right?
It sure seems that way, doesn't it? Again, I try my best to stay impartial, but even I was worried about how low these guys ranked together!
