    Guys if any of you want to join the RAF. Honestly TRUST ME. JOIN THE CADETS. It will help so so much. Especially when starting off as an airman you will almost certainly fly up the ranks as so much of what is in the training programme is what the RAF requires for you to do. Join the cadets before your 20 and you will be almost completely ready for a job in the RAF!

    • @royalairforce
      @royalairforce  6 років тому +11

      We will point out that you don't need to be in the Air Cadets to be able to apply for any role in the RAF. You only need to meet the entry requirements for the role you wish to apply for AND all of the eligibility criteria listed on the RAF Recruitment website.
      There are benefits of being in the ATC prior to joining the RAF. The main one being used to elements like Drill and the rank structure. However, the RAF trains everyone from scratch.

      There are postings to embassy positions around the world. It will depend on what's required at the time. Some postings can be any trade/role. Others can be specific, there's no specific role that will assist this either way. You should apply to do the role you want to do because that's what you'll be doing for the majority of your career, so you need to enjoy it.

    As a dad of 53( just) my only regret in my life was never joining the RAF as a younger man.
    Like so many others I guess, you feel that you have so much time only to watch it fly by at an alarming rate.
    Four years in the ATC taught me all about the respect of feeling for the band of brothers you train and live with and it stays with you for ever.
    At my age am I still eligible for service in the reserve? I'm still a fit man and rounded by life experience.

    I am currently 21 years old and I will be graduating from university this summer. Apparently recruitment for the pilot role is closed at the moment, but is there any estimate of when it will reopen, as I am worried that I will exceed the age cutoff.
    Also, I do not have any military experience and I missed the opportunity to join the cadets, but will that put me in a disadvantage against those who have been in the cadets or UAS? I am considering signing up to become a adult volunteer for the cadets to gain leadership skills and some knowledge about the RAF

    • @royalairforce
      @royalairforce  Рік тому

      Hi
      You need no prior experience to be able to apply and join, we train everyone from scratch. You only need to meet all of the entry and eligibility criteria listed on the role page on the RAF Recruitment website to be able to apply. The process determines your entry.
      There's no set dates for when role will open or close. If you register for it you will be advised the moment it opens and invited to submit an application. The recruiting year runs from April to March and roles close once we have filled the slots we have each year. But there is no guarantee they will open every year, it depends on manning requirements.

      The 24 weeks is Initial Officer Training, not pilot training. That comes afterwards. And as stated before, you apply to be a pilot. You can have a preference, but it's the RAF that decides which type of aircraft you'll fly, based on several different factors. For example, some could have always wanted to be a Fast Jet pilot, but if their body dimensions don't allow it, that's never going to happen. It's more than just a simple decision.

I know lots about aviation, military and tank. i have been inspired by the red arrows. alos i have lost some of my hearing in my right ear from a operation idk if i would get it back because i had a surgery in spetember of 2021 and dew for another one at the time of writing.

    Will that mean I will not be allowed to be a fast jet pilot? I passed everything else.
    At the age of 7 I was recognised by a group of strangers because of my skill on this bomber landing simulation..
    And my uncle was in the RAF. He tested me on quite a few things and I passed all of them.
