    I do not recall my initial interview as an airman, other than being told that I could not have my choice (to be a Policeman with a dog and a sidearm) but would be sent to be an Air Trafficker. I had no idea what that was. hahahaha. I was signed up for 12 years and had a fine career. Loved it all. On the way through over some seven years I applied for Aircrew and was rejected. Twice. I applied again for a Commission. I was sent to Biggin Hill for 'selection'. I was a Corporal with two overseas tours under m'belt. The Board Officer ( Wg Co), a very serious chap said, "Son, I see this is the third time you have applied. What will you do if we turn you down again?" I replied. "Yes, Sir, this is the third time, and this is probably the last chance you have to get it right". He burst out laughing. I was Commissioned. :)

      The interview comes after you’ve passed the ast for you chosen trade. After the ast my recruiter emailed me a spreadsheet with all the trades that I could go in as with my results. If you don’t pass for the trade you want you could always consider other options or just resit it if not. It’s nothing to worry about. Just go in open minded and don’t even think about failing. But to answer your question you won’t progress to the interview unless you’ve done the ast and selected a trade. Good luck though.

    • @estienneherbert60
      @estienneherbert60 3 роки тому

      Passed! I delivered the personal section very well but stumbled with some of the air force knowledge and lost momentum. I couldn't give correct answer for what a commission meant, what the reserve dutys are, the definition of air power (i just new the components), what the first deployment would be and why junior officers have additional responsibilitys.
      To these I said I wasn't expecting the questions but attempted to answer and give what thoughts I had on them. After the interview I was told to write 3 things I could have done better (I wrote 6). The recruiter gave me good advice afterwards and told me I need to drill my answer and be concise for officer selection. Apparently I wouldn't have passed for pilot but I'm applying as engineer officer and met the bench mark.

      For weakness something along the lines of I focus to much on detail, I struggle to ask for help sometimes, I could use more experience in......

    I am wondering If u have any tips for the fitness I was in the Army but got medically discharged but have applied for the RAF as my doctors said I'm fine when I done Army selection our running was on the ground outside which I prefer I am not used to treadmill I find it hard to gauge the treadmill speed to how fast your going and how far you will go in that time so I'm wondering if u have any tips for treadmill running ?

      @@tomorck so basically it started with the past 5 years of my life what i have been doing what roles of responsibility i have held how i have achived my best what my family think of joining the raf one element of basic and what u do eg cbrn what challanges it will bring, then benefits of raf life and also the difficulty it holds some basic aircraft knowledge a few raf bases here and overseas what ur trade does and where u would likely be placed ur phase 2 how long etc if you are motivated to join how u can prove so, they get to know you so they ask questions about your life just to gage the type of person you are. they also want to know u have been keeping upto date with current affairs with operations that the raf have been involved in eg battle of brit and then recent stuff going on so make sure u know that ,then at the end there is a series of questions they must ask so one was if u was successful with ur application and training etc and placed in an active warzone situation would you be willing to take a life. however the interview was a good opener as i got to ask questions about the raf make sure u have a list of questions as they will have all there information ready expecting you to ask questions this can be anything from accomidation to social life or anything its all personal whatever u want to know be sure to ask as it makes u stand out
