A few years back you’d pay a premium for leather and today you pay a premium for leather free materials. Amazing how things change.
I just want cloth to become the luxury option again. Cloth doesn't get burning hot in the sun in the summer, doesn't feel cold in the winter, breathes well, and doesn't require regular conditioning. Toyota and Volvo got it right using wool upholstery.
@@bwofficial1776yeah but a bad spill will affect cloth way worse than leather. cloth is nice though , makes me feel like im driving on a couch
@@scatan6922 forget about a bad spill, even a small coffee/juice spill will leave a permanent mark on cloth seats. It's the same story with stains, even an accidental makeup stain can quickly ruin cloth seats. Leather is just objectively more durable.
@@squre98 my old chevy malibu had cloth seats that i assume had never been cleaned and when i tried i extracted black water for about two hours straight before giving up
soon you will pay more for less horsepower, to save the horses!
It's got serious off road cred. Perfect for trips to Costco, the kids' club sports and playdates and the car detailer!
Also recommended for a long distance trips to Kosovo.
And don't forget the service center, where it will spend a lot of it's life.

I never understand this argument when it comes to off road capable SUV. Is everyone in a 911 Turbo S using them primarily for track days? Its a toy just like anything else. It'll spend 1% of its life (at most) using its capability to its fullest. Doesn't make it any less fun/enjoyable to own.
Land rover has always been about capability, like Doug mentioned Mercedes and BMW stopped pursuing that so Land rover is sticking to their roots of being able to go anywhere and being one of the last luxury off road focused brands
The deepest water one of these will see is a puddle in the mall parking lot.
You’d be surprised, when there’s flooded roads the only thing you see going through them in Europe is these things, higher wading depth than a full sized Land Cruiser at 900mm

It's unconscionable to pay $2k to have non-leather seats and steering wheels when leather is considered the more "premium" product by literally every other car brand.

Another luxury SUV? *yawn* I can understand why he wouldn't be super excited about it. He's much more animated when he's reviewing the interesting stuff that comes in through C&B or someone lets him borrow their rare / obscure / never see them anymore car for a review

He's reviewed hypercars multiple times in his life, I don't think he's be that excited over a V6 range rover
Good thing Land Rover still retained physical controls for climate unlike other brands like BMW and Mercedes which is all in the screen…
I miss some buttons for volume and climate control but you get used to everything else pretty quickly.
The new 2024 models don't have those climate controls !! They integrated the controls for climate and volume into the infotainment. Works horrible, but they think that people will use the voice control for these settings. You can see the changes one the LR website or in other reviews.

When Doug mentioned that a Porsche Cayenne starts in the low 80’s it made me realize how insanely expensive pickup trucks have become. Obviously trucks don’t start in the 80s,but it’s not hard to get them there.

Heated steering wheel optional on a $104,000 car? MotoMan would say "lets fix that"
Funny thing is a heated steering wheel comes as standard on a Kia picanto for the UK market, even the top spec picanto costs less than 21k approx
JLR also still has garage door buttons as an option. I would think damn near 100% of their owners have a garage. To not have that be standard is a joke.
And SYNTEHTIC LEATHER is an optional UPGRADE? Damn, I remember when Genuine Leather was considered a PREMIUM FEATURE!
@@jeffs6090 Luxury brands charge extra for everything because they can. They know their buyers aren't looking at lesser cars that may have stuff like that standard. If you're looking at a Range Rover or Porsche, you're probably not cross-shopping a Toyota or Honda.

@@lieutenant7196besides being ugly (which is subjective) it gets dirty really fast and has to always be cleaned daily from finger print smudges. Also, especially in more expensive cars like this, metal or wood would look more high end.

Agree 100%. Obviously, it is cheap, so we can see why they might like that. When I got my Sport, I waited for one with the light gray wood - hides the spots and dust of daily use perfectly. And it is beautiful. It has that very high-end look that @touringmagazine refers to in his/her comment.
I had one of these for a week when my F-Type was in for service the other week. I thought I was going to hate it, but it's genuinely just a nice SUV, and JLR has fixed "most" of the parts of the interior that feel completely awful on my F-type/last gen RR.
Land rover jaguar is owned by Tata motoring out of India lol
The F-Type basically looks as beautiful as the old E-Type.
I did the opposite, went from the rr sport autobiagraphy to an ftype, the interior is disappointing. Still love the f-type, such a beautiful car

It's important to note, this a 2023 model. All 2024 models have the climate controls integrated on the screen.

@@v12-s65 not true at all. many people can "afford" the range rover sport but choose other cars. my dad has owned a (new at the time) 7 series, loaded 5 series, various lexus models, 2 x5s, a land cruiser etc., he test drove the sport twice each time before being each x5 and liked the x5 more in every way.

Here in Switzerland there are simply too many GLEs and X5s, people want to differ now.
Maseratis and Ranges are selling currently.
You almost never see a Lexus here in middle europe though.
Personally I think the X5 doesn't ride as nice as the Range and the music system (h/k is garbage, bowers can be good) isn't as nice as the signature reference in the 2021 sport.
Also in my opinion the previous sport had menacing design

@@v12-s65 nope, I have the bowers & wilkins on my bmw iX and absolutely blows away the meridian signature I had on my previous velar. It's among the best sound systems in the world.
My mechanic billed me 1500 Dollars for watching this video with a range Rover in it.

3rd row seating is great for families with a lot of children, but for adults most SUV’s 3rd row is terrible. Auto companies treat it like an after thought, mostly for marketing purposes.

Doug DeMuro - the kind of guy who on Sunday, releases a video about how bad buttons and knobs are in cars today... then on Tuesday, releases a video _praising_ Range Rover for including knobs for the climate controls.
For years I always considered Range Rovers to be overpriced and overrated… until I drove a Sport and HSE.
Yes, you’re playing maintenance roulette when they start to climb in miles but damn, they really do check every box you could ever want.
Many things that you can't see add to value. Infra-red coatings on windows along with UV... your arm doesn't get warm resting on the window ledge despite full sun... you don't get blasted opening door in hot parking lots. Ip67 rated wiring connectors for keeping water out of computers and harness. Arriving after a 5 hour drive and feeling rested instead of beat... they are worth the extra outlay.
If you want a sporty suv it doesn't check the box
@@jeffreyjones3616 Every car has waterproof connectors and sealed computers so nothing shorts out in the rain. My Subaru has IR-blocking glass that works very well. The Range Rover isn't that special.

@@bwofficial1776 I'm positive that most manufactures don't do ip67 where they can be submerged in several feet of water for 30 minutes without intrusion and can take water jet sprays.. that isconsidered "waterproof"... not just water resistant ... not trying to knock your subaru... but get in a rover and you can't not admit the difference... and yes there is a difference in cost... what.. 20 to 30% more?

Awesome review Doug! Something to note is that they actually changed the centre console from 2023 to 2024 model year. Now there is no buttons and all controls are on screen. This also fixes the issue with phone launching out of charging place as there is a dedicated sport with cover for it now!
I'm already looking forward to watching a Samcrac video in 2036, buying at Copart auction for US$ 4700 with a lot of problems.

1:22 The starting price is 85,175 $. 16:20 the plug-in powertrain (460e) is the 3.0 i6 with 460 hp. The V8 has 523 hp but is just a mild-hybrid (MHEV) not an plug-in (PHEV) !!

Yep. They're ordered months and sometimes years in advance so once they arrive at the dealership, they're usually already taken but the dealership still put them on display.

This is a 2023 model. The 24/25 doesn't have the buttons for air conditioning or drive select. It is implemented very well in the screen though.
I'm still grieving for those buttons, i loved them and now they are gone. Why range rover?

Land rovers driving position has always reminded me of the 4 runner which I intend as a tremendous complement. You don't just sit up high but you are in a relatively vertical position too which enhances all around visibility.
The section divider in the boot is a perfect dog gate / door to stop them jumping out or getting in way of closing electric tailgate. Clever.
THIS! Will break down as soon as you drive it off the lot.

Actually they don't, if you keep it for 1-2 years they don't depreciate that much, after that it's probably the same for every luxury car. I sold my 2023 RR sport for 20k more than what i bought it for

11:20 that's weird...I rode in the back seat of a GX460 (previous generation) and the it didn't feel tight. Maybe Lexus reduced rear seat legroom for this generation. The front seats have always been quite tight on the GX though.

Older model was WAY more sporty and masculine looking. New one looks more like a minivan

It's not, i mean after 5-6 years yes, like any luxury cars. But if you keep it for 1-2 years It doesn't depreciate that much, i actually sold mine for 20k more 1 year later
I believe the window styling is called “frameless window.” It allows for better design lines, but it’s also practical, reducing potential leak points.
What about discussing the ride heights are also now in the infotainment system. Not physical buttons I still don’t get how they work

Agreed, Both exterior and interior in my opinion.
The slim, flush, adjustable wide-screen paired with the climate-control screen below was great. A “mounted iPad” for an infotainment screen is not an upgrade
What percentage of the price is based on expected warranty repair costs? 80%?
I think those fancy dials with screens that can be multifunction are a good solution, for integrating multiple controls without burying them in some dense infotainment system.
At least with an Escalade, all the really expensive mechanical bits can be found at the nearest Chevy dealership.

It's weird. I thought the previous Explorer looked like it 'borrowed' many of the older Rover's design features. However now the new Rover decided to incorporate the 'unique' Explorer elements into their new design... It's like they're cribbing off of each other! lol And I still don't know how Ford didn't get any complaints for completely copying the iconic Aston Martin Grille design for their 2013-2020 Focus models

These are holding pretty well at the moment, I’d say once all the leases expire the prices will plummet.
I always have done better purchasing and trading before 30k miles so that dealer could set em up as certified preowned. Lease would have been more expensive... do you think that the dealer lease program doesn't account for depreciation too? 😂
They are actually selling a lot of them and resale value Is very good, at least here in Europe. I sold mine for 20k more than what i bought it for

100 series Land Cruiser also had cieling climate vents. ‘98-‘07
Lexus LS460 in 2007 also had lighted seatbelt buckles. Nearly 20 years ago. The earlier LS430 may also have had it, not sure.
Honda brv also has ceiling climate vents and Toyota hiace , as do a lot of the bigger cars in south Asia. It's quite interesting because in western cars the size of a hiace or brv they tend to put it in the b or c pillars or in the back of the centre console. But Japanese/ South Asian large cars tend to have it in the ceiling
