    2. The Etiology and Pathology of T1D
    3. The 3 stages of Type 1 Diabetes and How They are Defined
    4. The Autoantibodies Associated with T1D and the Associated Risk of Developing T1D Over Time
    5. Stage 2 Interventions (prevention)
    6. Stage 3 Interventions (preservation)

    LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of these activities, participants should:
    1. Understand the etiology of type 1 diabetes and be able to describe the 3 stages of T1D
    2. Be able to describe the best ways to diagnose T1D in the earlier stages and what auto-antibodies are used to screen individuals at risk for developing T1D
    3. Be able to discuss with an individual with 2 or more islet auto-antibodies the benefits and adverse events associated with being treated with teplizumab
    WHO CAN BENEFIT MOST
This course is designed for diabetes healthcare providers including endocrinologists, primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, certified diabetes educators, pharmacists, and other healthcare providers wanting to expand their knowledge of the stages of T1D and available interventions and treatments at each stage.
    In this video, you'll discover:
    - Early Screening Tools: The role of autoantibody tests in identifying T1D risk.
    - Intervention Strategies: How early diagnosis improves outcomes.
    - Teplizumab (Tzield): A look at the first FDA-approved drug to delay T1D onset.
    - Innovative Treatments: New therapies aimed at preserving beta cell function and preventing diabetes.
    - A Hopeful Future: The latest research aimed at reversing and curing T1D.

Ten years with T1D. Followed Dr. Bernstein's low carb diet from the beginning. The results? Truly normal, healthy nondiabetic blood sugars.

I wish more GAD testing would be ordered for older patients. Too many older patients are misdiagnosed as T2d. I didn't find out I was T1D until I was 67 years old. Who knows how long I was actually a T1D.

Even in well controlled diabetics, with an A1c of 7 or under, they still see CVD but we simply don’t know why. 🤦🏻🤦🏻🤦🏻

There are many other issues that occur in people with type 1 and type 2 that lead to cardiovascular disease, like inflammation, oxidation, dyslipidemia, hypertension, etc etc.

I know research can be slow going, but I'd be curious if the addition of exogenous omega-3 DHA and/or Vitamin D, considering prior reports of how those may assist in delay of onset...a triple cocktail, so to speak.
Like everyone else, it's thrilling regarding the discovery of the antibodies, let alone the potential to delay onset by 2-3 years and hope in a few years we see that increase.
Thanks for the education! Can't wait to hear results of stage 3.

Thanks so much for the question. You are right in that there have been lots of medications that potentially could delay type 1 including Verapamil, which as you know is a common blood pressure pill, however these studies take a long time, and they study one at a time. in the future there will be more combination studies for sure. The stage 3 study, called the PROTECT study, has been published in the New England Journal of Medicine and the results are excellent.

I’m not exactly sure what you’re asking, but you can always get a blood test for the antibodies, and I would not be surprised if they’re negative, but you need to check.

Please don't take any advice from these two. Instead, get Doctor Bernstein's Diabetes Solution.
