It cannot be overstated the number of people who belted this song out while crying instead of taking a razor blade to their wrist. This song has saved so many lives and will continue to do so for as long as music exists.
Bro! I’m one of those. 24 ish years ago. I was 18 years old and just at my end (not gonna go into detail cuz it doesn’t matter now), but Metallica has always brought the life into me since I was 10 years old back in 1992. This song is “the song” though. I’ve even met James and told him about it, which of course, meant more to me than him (who knows though). Just saw them in Nov in St Louis for like the 10th time and they sound better now than 24 years ago.
@@jaybird455I bet it meant something to James.
Wahhh….live your life….you do that, hell awaits, and that’s A FACT JACK…this was about James,s gear his dead mother bought him as a young aspiring rocker
Kirk gets so much credit for being an amazing guitarist and still seems like not enough lol. 60 years old and still crushes these solos like he's 25
Not to mention James is an amazing guitarist as well. I don't care what anyone says, Kirk achieved GOAT status a long time ago.
Crushes these solos?😂 he’s dogshit
They all did. Metallica is the greatest musical show/band/erra/anything to do with music of all time no questions asked
@@alltree78Hell yeah they did. The whole band and everyone behind the scenes is GOATed.
as much as i love Metallica, Kirk hasn't played the solo right in like 12-15 years. Id rather him at least attempt to play the solo like he used to instead of using that damn Wah Pedal on everything
Fade to Black was written after James had his amplifier stolen. An amplifier his mother helped pay for, before she passed away. The song expresses his sense of loss after this. Such a powerful song.
It was this and most of all their equipment. Cliff lost his Rickenbacker he heavily modified.
His white V too…even more precious
Bit dramatic isnt he xD
@@kamilo034 You do know how old the song is, roght? And thus how you he were, when he wrote it.
I was 14 when this album came out and going through some very dark times, this song saved me. Every word in the lyrics was what I was feeling but the final solo was so inspiring, so uplifting so impactful that it showed me that there was a little light within the darkness and there was hope... I'm 54 now and have had battled depression all my life yet this song is my life line...
We are the same age and I’ve been a Metallica fan just as long and I’m here to say- I’m glad you’re still here with us my friend. Never give up. This song means so much to all us “older” metalheads.
So you turn 54 this year?
@@Drescher1984 Um... no, I said I am 54, my b-day was last Dec.
Thank you for being here with us!
This song has saved so many lifes, God bless these guys. 🤘🏼🎶
Great upload love your reaction.🫶🏻
James Hetfield, explained that his mother had a hand in helping him pay for an amplifier. Before this album was released his mother passed away and shortly after that amplifier was stolen. “Fade to Black” focuses on a person who has decided the life they are living is not worth the fight. The individual in the song explains the hollow or empty feeling that has taken over their mind and explains that this feeling is similar to a living hell. The song concludes with a message letting whoever is listening know that it was too late for them, and this is goodbye.
Although this song receives much praise from fans, it was a target for many parents whose children were committing suicide at that time. However, in an interview with Rolling Stones Hetfield mentions, “we got tons and tons of letters - we still do - that say, “Fade to Black saved my life.””
And I love that when they returned to the subject on their newest album with "Screaming Suicide", the message has evolved. "Fade To Black" told people they weren't alone, but it definitely wallowed in that sadness & despair. "Screaming Suicide" tells people they're not alone AND that there's a way to come back from that sadness & despair.
Fortunately, I have never felt that depressed before but I can only imagine it helps to know that you are not alone in your feelings.
Fade to black intro always gives me the chills
Usually live James will say to the audience that you are not alone reach out before they start the song
Metal is more than just a lot of noise. It also has deep meanings, messages in the songs.
The good ol saying "You hear the screaming, i hear the meaning" :)
@@Rockhound999I LOVE THAT!! Never heard that expression before. Now I know what to say next time a friend or family member tells me my music is just screaming. Thanks for posting that!!
Fade to Black is one of the most powerful songs to listen to!!!! Being there and feeling it live is just so MOVING, The energy of the thousands of people around you all seeming to be connected as one by one very powerful masterpiece !!!!
Fade to Black is an all-timer. The direct lyrics are very validating when you are in that headspace. Just like Ray said. Then the solo at then end, I feel kinda lifts you back up because it is just face melting goodness.
Also, I've used Better Help, during the pandemic. It was a great service when I was unable to find any help locally.
React to their peak moments when they was young like Battery - Live on Seattle 1989
James leans into the clean vocals more now that he is older, and really is quite masterful with them. Roll back the clock 20+ years and there was much more grit.
Fun fact Kirk Hammet plays his "Greeny" guitar which is a 1959 Les Paul once owned by Gary Moore, he said in a interview that it's special and instead of having it hanging on the wall in a museum he wants to play it atleast 1 time every Live show, legendary guitar.
Originally owned by Peter Green of Fleetwood Mac, the best guitarist by far of the three owners!
And he keeps it in his hotel rooms on tour instead of in the equipment vehicles
I saw them 3 times in Toronto and they kicked my ass😂❤
"simply nothing more to give" is just a great line!!! because you DO need energy and need to "give" something from yourself to interact with people and keep rolling!!!
aaaaand you gotta love that outro solo!!! probabely one of kirks best music ever!!!
I was 15 when I first heard this and I listened to it a lot and also as a rescue bc at the time I was going thru some really gnarly stuff and it helped me not feel alone, I am
now a 51 y/o grandma and I still love and listen to it, it has a special place in my ❤ it will always 🤘🏻
This song has done so much for me over my life. Just saw them in Nov in St Louis. They sound better now than they have in 25 years. I saw them in 1993 when I was 11. Wish I remembered more of that, but I also saw them in 1999, 2009, 2010, and now in 2023 and that was the best show I’ve seen from them.
This is my favorite song of all time! So cool to see people still discovering it :)
Followed metallica since mid 80s here in Ireland . This will always be one of my fav songs of theirs. Kirk solo in this is epic.
This has been my favorite song for... I don't even know how long.
Helped me through some really tough times. As weird as that may sound to some people, and as weird as it feels to say so.. It's true.
Total helplessness and no will to live. You'll grasp into anything, and music really has done a lot of that for me.
Love that smile that comes at end of vid
I was there, It was the first time Metallica played Lincoln Ne. The radio station here was so excited that kissed the stage, no joke. It was a long time coming for Lincoln
I've seen Metallica a few times live and they are by far the BEST LIVE BAND EVER!!!
I saw Metallica just 2 days before this show lol, incredible!
I was at this show, first time seeing them. It was truly an amazing experience. They normally toured in states that were fairly far away, but this was a 45 minute drive.
For their most recent tour, as an example, the closest state was Illinois, which is decently far from Nebraska.
Regardless, I'm really happy to be able to rewatch this concert as many times as I want online to "relive" it.
My dad has seen them twice in 88-89, once in the early 90s, again in 2004, and then again at this concert with me. Even though he is devout to the early aggressive testosterone fueled rage that they had in the 80s (which so am I so I can't blame him), he still said that they look and sound amazing in 2018 30 years after his first concert.
I was not at that show but I saw them on that same tour. I was in a similar situation. They did not often come to our rural states. I saw them in Birmingham, AL. The last time they had been there was before they were as widely known and I was a poor college student. Thankfully, as a teenager in the 80's, I got to see them and AC/DC in Atlanta on the Black Ice tour. Two of my three favorite bands of all time. Sadly, I will never get to see my third, Led Zeppelin, in concert.
Whenever I’m in a dark place this song always helps
Another awesome reaction:)! An absolutely incredible newer performance from Metallica is one in 2009. Absolutely locked in, and James’ vocals are absolutely intense and angry😁
The song still brings after all these years.
During Covid being sent home from work for 2 months, Metallica was my lockdown music the entire time.
please more LIVE reactions from metallica
I've been a Metallica fan since I was 10 years old I'm now 49 and Fade to Black and Master of Puppets both helped save my life from depression and drug addiction I'll always have the upmost respect for Metallica
Have you ever checked out their song "One" that song is so powerful lyrically. I would suggest having the lyrics in front of you and watch the official video. It weaves a movie into their video. Such a powerful and intense song and message.
Still one of their best ballads, but with a dark meaning. Lot of people thanks their lifes of this song. And yes, it's about a man who whant to end his life. But after every dark tekst the music is uplifting to make you feel better.
Looking good like always 😍... the Mighty METALLICA... FAN4LIFE🤘🏽😎
Fade To Black will always be my Favorite Metallica Song🤘🤘
I will never get over how James plays those riffs & sings at the same time
Amazing version! Long life for James voices!
最高だね! メタリカ大好きです♪♬
十代の頃からこの曲を聴いてるけど 未だに鳥肌立つよ!
The collaboration between Metallica and Miley Cirus on Weird Al’s show of Nothing Else Matters is phenomenal.
Dont forget Rob's bass playing and tone.. it's thicc here and makes the band sound so much better.
Ride the lightning is still my go to Metallica album, even now, nearly 40 years after hearing it first. Master of puppets, and justice for all, the black one, and even some of their later ones I really like. But Ride the lightning? So many underappreciated and almost perfect songs, but still not recognized as much as their later ones from the wide publicity.
I LOVE THIS SONG ❤❤
This song lets you know you’re not alone.
This song literally stopped my suicide first time I heard it I was 14 and writing my suicide note. This song showed me I wasn't alone
I still can't believe I was at this concert, much less that they came to my home town in lincoln Nebraska (like, no one goes here).
I just saw your reaction of nothing else matters, and i think you will enjoy a lot the triology form metallica of the Unforgiven I, Unforgiven II and Unforgiven III, they are 3 beautifull songs that i can listen again and again, you will love them, promise
8:50 statement of yours: that's exactly what good old metal and punk/hardcore songs are. they are supposed to lift your up with their storytelling and the tempo changes on these songs represent that evil thats is within you and at the same time you know that u must feel that rage of the song to manifest that lovely and cool person that you are. At least to me it like me against myself and heavy song and lyrics they are like warrions fighting that darkness inside of you so you can see bright light joy and happiness cause being alive is the most valuable and precious thing you can be and get, feel me?
You don't listen to metal.. you feel IT 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘😎
Almost every Metallica fan has a story about how this song has got them through hard times, rock bottom times and dark times. Myself included. I bought Ride The Lighning with Puppets in 86. And Fade To Black helped this 13 year old give voice to things for which there no words at the time.
"I was me, but now he's gone." I think this is one of the strongest quotes in history.
You can react also to the version they've done in nimes in 2009 for this song
And to think this album came out when they were around 21 - 22 years old
Rayactions like your music reaction , you need it to react anything from MetallicA 🤘 do it from Seattle 89
They increased the time of the song from the original. It used to be slower and way more impactful. Them speeding it up seems to bring some lightness to the overall feel. I don’t blame them, having to play such a heavy song for so long.
I love that👍👍
I was at this concert.
If you liked this song, I recommend you listen to The Unnamed Feeling, from the album St. Anger. It has a very similar message and feeling, but with a very different, less sad emotion.
Confusion, moth to flame, here comes revenge, am i savage, halo on fire
Please do a reaction to the 2009 live performance of "the day that never comes".
you see, I'm 45 years old today. It is possible because this song is a tool that will allow you to safely reach the bottom and then give you a kick in the ass to get back up, to get up, to fight because, as Arch Enemy sings, "Reaon to believe".
what a cute reaction)
Ever thought about reacting to Godsmack I stand alone?
❤❤❤
If you want to see robert solo guitar, please go react for whom the bells tolls in live version..very absolutely 🔥
GOAT
Id say halo on fire stuttgart 2018. Classic
Sometimes,... All we can do is walk and cry
Don't need to be in a war to suffer PTSD
It's actually about how he felt after the death of cliff burton, not an amp!
Bad Omens - Artificial Suicide live Concrete Forever Las Vegas
This my favorite song, and of course when I saw them they didn’t play it!
I saw them twice and they didn,t play this song. But it,s my favorite still upset
Person: What's your favorite Metallica song?
Me: Yes
You are the best😊😊
Please play unforgiven II from Metallica
I’m fortunate enough to be able to listen to this in my ‘04 F-150 8200 GVW. Has an Alpine stereo, 10,000 watts, 13 Alpine amplifiers, 16 vocal speakers, 6 10” subwoofers in a custom, two section, sub box and so much More. Yes, I can play music that will try to tear the truck apart. But it can also play music that will give you goosebumps. And this is one of them songs. If you listen to and love music the way I do, listening to it on a phone or computer is NOTHING. I can’t do it. Listening to these reactions is difficult for me because of listening to the music through a phone or computer. So much is lost. Listen to music that has a very nice car audio or home system. It’s on a different level.
You do such an amazing job! If you could just stop saying “Like” soooo many times. You have to know it. FYI, great job on the sponsor reading! So Professional 👍🏼🔥👍🏼
MORE METALLICA REACTIONS PLEASE!!!!!!
"THE UNFORGIVEN LIVE SAN DIEGO 1992"
Please react to Machine Head, another legendary band with a lengendary guitarist/lead singer like James Hetfield... So legendary that James played with them during their song Aesthetics Of Hate when they released it... You will love the way Rob Flynn plays crazy and really technical riffs in the guitar at the same time while singing crazy lines... I would recommend you to check their song called "Locust" live at San Fransisco 2015 (from Catharsis DVD), lyrics are very interesting and the song is simply magical and beautiful in all the possible ways.
Next Reaction Metallica - One Live Version
It’s very real
Fade to black. And Master of Puppets are by far their best.
Greenie!
you really want to hear a guitar sing, listen to Alter Bridge - Black Bird at Wembley live... they made the guitar sing fore real
This song becomes so much greater when you go look at the pics of the drunk teens who wrote it.
Please react to EPICA
Song: Beyond The Matrix
Live From The AFAS
Yup.. you've just experienced the best rock band.
Ken Lawrence Explorer RULES!
Kirks les pauls "greeny" (previously owned) lost the will to live and smashed to bits in a car crash then glued back together.
Does Lars still hate me for downloading that mp3 back in 1998?
Great song to react to.
One of the most powerful songs out there, even more so if you're... unfortunate enough to know exactly what he's singing about
Please React to Metallica - For Whom The Bell Tolls
Metallica’s musicianship is off the charts, much like Rush. They play full throttle, and leave nothing behind.
hey, that purple guitar isn't a guitar,is a bass : ) (im not being agressive is just to you know, and my english is kind sucks ,so,sorry)
Hello Gen Z, we millenialls still love you despite all your errors - great reaction!
I'll like if you react to easy lover of Philip Bailey and Phill Collins
👍👍
It's just matter of fact
Kirk Hammett is a guitar god 💯💪👊🤘
