The song is a conversation between an addict and their drug of choice. The slowdown in the middle is the euphoric high of giving in. Then as the high wears off the music becomes frantic again.
I’ve been to about 17 Metallica concerts in my life, starting back in 1986 on the tour for Master of Puppets, when they were opening for Ozzy. It was the only time I got to see Cliff Burton live, as he died later that year in a tour bus accident. They are, by far, one of the best live bands out there. They appreciate their fans and give everything they have during a show. The energy in the air is palpable, and they feed off the crowds energy as the crowd gives that energy back. It’s very hard to describe the feeling of being at a Metallica concert and just how the air feels. James Hetfield, the singer and rhythm guitarist was a huge inspiration for me when I was a teenager. It was Metallica, and specifically his playing, that inspired me to learn how to play guitar. During my High School years, guitar became an extremely important emotional outlet for me. I was mercilessly bullied in HS, I had several people who were relentless and the school wouldn’t do anything about it. I was pushed to the edge where I really didn’t want to live any longer. If it weren’t for Metallica and being able to come home, throw on an album and play through it on guitar, which let me really vent my emotions, I wouldn’t be here. Some days were so bad that I’d play through 4 albums back to back, 8 hours or more of just playing Metallica. I can truthfully say that the band really did save my life. On this tour, the Death Magnetic tour of 2009, I had become disabled due to an accident just a year prior. I was depressed, and in a really bad place mentally. After decades of entering my name into the Metallica Club contest to win a meet and greet pass, I finally won. I got to meet the band before the show, and this was a lifelong dream for me. I finally got to tell James, to his face, just how much the band and he himself had done for me. All four of them were extremely nice, listened to me and genuinely made me feel like I wasn’t “just some fan”. Lars was actually the nicest of them. Kirk was really low key and fairly shy. Rob was so incredibly friendly and seemed just stoked to be there. Anyway…that’s my story. Meeting them was a life long goal and dream. That concert was made even more special because my then 70 year old dad came with me. It was the first music concert he’d ever attended, and he remarked about what I said about the energy in the air. He really enjoyed the concert and it’s a memory I’ll cherish for the rest of my life. He passed away on 10/8/2017, and the memories we made that night are even more special to me now. Thanks for being there pops, I miss you.
Metallica is a special band. For some of us they provided the soundtrack to our teenage years back in the 80s. We've grown up with them our whole lives. And they are still out there killing it! I hope your generation gets to experience something like that. It's priceless.
Sadly they won't, because now there are so many bands out there, most of them mediocre at max, there never ever will be real hyperstars like Metallica again. I feel sad for those youngsters.
I'll set the scene. Metallica is opening for ozzy. Tickets are 20 bucks. I'm a teenager first concert ever. I'm on the outside of the pit. In front of cliff!! The world changed forever after that!
The fact that these guys are in their early 60's now and they're still playing at this level!!! I don't know any bands in their twenty's who can play half as hard as these guys
Quebec is always one of the best crowds for Metallica performances. One of my favorite Metallica songs. Its about the eb and flow of drug addiction where the drug is the master.
@OB1tuber the reason people suggest the official music video is because it actually explains and shows what the song is about. Granted, the lyrics are pretty self-explanatory, but you wouldn't know the full depth of it.
Seen them live 7 times now, never disappointed. Doing that for nearly 40 yrs. earns the reputation and admiration they have earned. Only one thing sucks nowadays is the price of a ticket to the show. Back in the day you could get a general admission ticket for $25. No assigned seating!
When the crowd can sing your song back to you amd for you... You made it and effected so many lives you could never know..... Fade to black and do lyric videos album versions.
Metallica is one band that everyone should see at least once in there life, they put on one hell of a show!! I have seen them 3 times the best was in 1991 inside a stadium I was 7th row seating and it was so AWESOME!! If I remember right my ears rang for the next 2 days!! It was epic!!
I highly suggest checking them out on tour they are awesome, the energy from the band to the crowd and from the crowd to the band is off the charts, they are an experience for sure! This is the song that sold me on Metallica and metal for that matter! Metallica carried me through my teens, such a good time for metal, before it ever became mainstream lol! Metallica brought metal to the masses!
If you haven't heard the album version, do yourself a favor, go listen to it right now, record your reaction... Listen to one of the most amazing songs ever... Hear those lyrics... it's one of the most powerful songs with meaning... The whole album is a masterpiece, I don't think there's a single "meh" song on that whole album!
This right here, the studio version is SOOO much better. The live version is great for those of us that have been listening to this song for 40 years (omg it's been that long), but if you've never heard this before then the recorded version is the one you need to hear.
Classic song and a really good performance, but for live reactions of them I highly recommend the live performance at Seattle 1989, Metallica at their prime. That concert is pure energy
The lyrics of the song are coming from the perspective of the drug/addiction tempting someone to keep it up, tp keep in that addiction: I will occupy / I will help you die / I will run through you / Now I rule you, too
Metal, and especially thrash, has a certain joie de vivre and esprit de corps that few genres have between the artists and their fans. As well amoung the fans themselves.
I highly recommend this same song but at the Seattle '89 concert it's incredible, that concert in general was the best of all, the band was at the peak of its power.
You should check out one of the S&M performances (Metallica, with an Orchestra) preferably No Leaf Clover, or a classic but with the added orchestral side.
Id like to thank you for doing as perfect of a reaction video as anyone could do. People are always pausing every five seconds, you don't. The commentary makes sense and you're good at understanding the songs. Thank you.
OMG girl, ive been like 2 hour watching some of your video reaccions, specially ( baby metal, jinjer, avenged sevenfold, arch enemy, slipknot and this one) which are my kind of bands and let me tell you something. I literally fell in love with your beautifully genuine reactions❤ thankyou. You have for sure a new subscriber here, grettings from Puerto Rico
Re: your comment about how they look like they're having so much fun, that's one of the big things I've noticed in the official live videos from their current "72 Seasons" tour, they look like they're having a blast. Pretty amazing for a band that's been doing this for over 40 years, and a group of guys at or nearing 60 years old!
Such a depressing and just pure power song. Lyrics full of pain. Yet so heartpounding beat. If you know you know. If you don't. You'll gratefully never understand.
I was at that show, it was at the old coliseum and it was the last show that was played there. The next day they opened the new arena next door, Centre videotron. James Hetfield once said the old coliseum in Quebec was one of his favorite places to perform because it was a smaller venue and he liked the proximity to the fans, he felt there was a special energy.
3 times myself. Not for nothing. But this whole album changed my musical life. Sounds dumb, but at 50 yrs old, you will still see my old grey bearded ass going fuckin nutz in my work truck with this song playing. If im listening to Metallica, so is everyone near me
2004, Sweden. My first Metallica-concert. The audience was so loud, that the band couldn't hear themselves play to the extent they needed to, even with their own electronics. So what did the organiser do? He was forced to turn up the volume. Problem was that there is a law which states you are not allowed to play louder than a certain decibel. In the newspaper the day after, the organiser had to pay 10.000 bucks in damages. That's how popular Metallica is.
You have earned a new subscriber. I have just discovered your channel and I really enjoy that you react to music that may be outside of your comfort zone. It's refreshing to see someone who enjoys music in general and doesn't lock themselves in a box of a specific genre. Great music is great music regardless!
Cool reaction This band is awesome 👍👍 been fan since 84. They have help me a lot with there music. They're 60now I'm glad as can be that they're still new music and me 55 still hear to listen to it.
There is so many differents type of songs in metallica, i can recommand orion, the call of ktulu and to live is to die (instrumentals). From the black album: enter sandman, nothing else matters, blackened. The trilogy of the unforgiven (Unforgiven I, II and III these each songs are from differents albums) and more, have to discover by yourself too :) . I recommand the live from Nice, France live in 2007, a big one too. Anyway, great reaction :)
hope soon reaction toThe Warning is coming. they also did amazing cover of Enter Sandman. 1999 was my the first Metellica concert...this summer is my 8th time.
I'd only ever listened to the studio version of this song. My son raved about it. I thought, yeah, it's a good song, I like it. But never got his enthusiasm. Anyway, 2017, they're playing London O2. We have tickets. My first Metallica gig. They play this (of course), and I 'got it'. The sheer energy created. Absolutely caught up with my boy's enthusiasm. We got to see them again in 2019 at Twickenham.
You really should watch something from their S&M show (in 1999 i think). The whole show was great and made me pick up the guitar after I watched the DVD. Recommendation would be Wherever I may roam or For whom the bell tolls, but the full show was great.
Metallica has a number of songs with great audience participation. "Seek and Destroy" and "Creeping Death" have a lot of crowd singing parts, for example. . . . James doesn't do many solos, but he is very melodic when he does them. Speaking of crowd participation, check out Blind Guardian performing "The Bard's Song" at Wacken Open Air (WOA). It's a live performance like when you reacted to Jinjer a few months back. The audience carries "The Bard's Song" with little input from the singer. It's magical, really.
Can't believe there's not more people mentionning the 89' show in seattle that was filmed, it is the best metallica performance ever recorded, James Hetfield was untouchable back then.
Metallica 🔥🔥🤘🤘….greatest live band for decades 🔥🔥🤘🤘….I have seen them 18 x and two more will come next year…..if you want to be blown away react to this song live in Manchester 2019…the boys play it flawlessly while it is raining cats and dogs…..EPIC performance in front of 75,000 fans going nuts investing fully in the song🔥🔥🔥🤘🤘🤘
The people are singing for two things, one is audience participation, this is something highly common from metal and glam bands of the 1980's, and Metallica is one of them. So when you watch a old rock band from back then with a crowd, it is common thing, so it isn't a surprise. Reason two is, this is a mix crowd of new and old gen people. So you have the ones that grew up and been listening to Metallica and going to concerts since the 80's(this is the group the band is directing to sing because it is expected as in tradition 'rock concert'), and those who have learned who the band is not long ago....
Great reaction to an iconic song. If you like crowd interaction, I highly recommend Blind Guardian - The bard song & Valhalla from Wacken. The crowd was amazing. Also, if you like trash Metal songs, Nightwish have a song with strong Metallica vibes, Yours is an empty hope. I recommend the Wembley 2015 version, they performed a sold out concert (about 80k peeps) there.
The euphoric part of the song correlates with the euphoric high from the drug the user of the song was craving only to follow with intense despair and helplessness that follows in the song.
So, here's some other info about this song, and the album in general.... This album is in the library of Congress in the US. It is considered a significant piece of art in history. that's pretty awesome. Metallica has gone through a lot of turmoil in their long career... from substance abuse/dependency, losing members, fan backlash. The first four albums.. considered by most fans to be the best albums... of course this is subjective... but the first four albums were co written with the original Bass player, Cliff Burton, who was arguably the true soul of Metallica. He died in a bus accident while they were touring in Europe for this album. The band eventually replaced him, and then replaced that guy too, ending up with the bassist they have now, Robert Trujillo. Anyway, the first four albums are Kill Em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets and ..And Justice for all. All of them are amazing, ans you could easily do a reaction to every song and have people screaming for more. I'm really glad you're enjoying your foray into Metallica. Also, their new album sounds a lot like the older stuff, so may even want to check that out as well.
This song was added to the United States congressional library by congress to preserve it for all time because its so important and relevant to so many people since it's about drug addiction, the master being the drug and the addict being the puppet. Thought that was pretty cool when I found that out.
Honestly at this point I don't really come for the music... I come for Rachel's reactions, what Rachel takes away from the music, and most importantly THE POSITIVITY RACHEL SPREADS... and Rachel's smile ofc because Rachel truly has such an amazing smile that CAN, and WILL push away ANY feelings of sadness, anger, disappointment, hatred, and literally ANY other negative feelings/emotions. I also hope that everyone reading this may stay safe, uplifting, and encouraging to others, and as always keep your stick on the ice. oh btw your Hair looks GREAT as purple.
This was a "Stadium Recording" becase of the Crowd interaction.. the other and most used is "Stage Recordings" Look up the 89 Moscow Peace Music Festivale all the "Hair Bands form the *80's were there... You will not be dissapointed.
On the topic of the band and crowd feeding off each other's energy, I think you might like Green Day. They are by far the most energetic band I've experienced live (although I haven't been to a Metallica gig...). They made a DVD for their 2005 American Idiot tour, named Bullet in a Bible, so maybe there are some songs online from that DVD for you to react to.
The song is a conversation between an addict and their drug of choice. The slowdown in the middle is the euphoric high of giving in. Then as the high wears off the music becomes frantic again.
Well said.
It is the drug talking, then the high, then the addic asking why the drug is doing this to them, then the drug again if I remember right
100% I love how James is like giving addicts a voice. It's very profound and powerful.

I'm kind of reliving my teenage years by listening to all the music I ignored while chasing Prince. 😂💜🙄🪼🥞👉🏾
Its a lot of fun to watch this generation get blown away the same way I did as a teenager when this came out
Sadly they won't, because now there are so many bands out there, most of them mediocre at max, there never ever will be real hyperstars like Metallica again. I feel sad for those youngsters.
Garage days back in 87 and still going .
I'll set the scene. Metallica is opening for ozzy. Tickets are 20 bucks. I'm a teenager first concert ever. I'm on the outside of the pit. In front of cliff!! The world changed forever after that!

Their performance of Fade to Black in Lincoln, NE is probably the best live performance I’ve ever seen of the song. Highly recommend.
I was there, front row and it really WAS the best version I’ve seen.
oh man i think about it every day, kirk was absolutely flawless
My personal favorite is the one in Vienna
"Creeping Death" live Moscow 1991 is a must watch. Over a million people in attendance.
Metallica “ONE” should be the next reaction. It will certainly blow your mind for sure.
Maybe blow your legs and arms off too
And my friend of mysery
Or fade to black.
@@Shawn-mo6dh really why we have to choice ?
But the the actual music video
You should check out some of the live videos from their 1989 Seattle concert. James's voice was absolutely killer amazing back then!!!
Quebec is always one of the best crowds for Metallica performances. One of my favorite Metallica songs. Its about the eb and flow of drug addiction where the drug is the master.
the way they played reminds me a lot of Guitar Hero Metallica's Master Of Puppets
still, this song it's just amazing, Metallica Rocks!
You definitely have to do "One" by Metallica and please go for the "official music video" version.
I second this.
up
this
Nah the one they did at the Grammys
@OB1tuber the reason people suggest the official music video is because it actually explains and shows what the song is about. Granted, the lyrics are pretty self-explanatory, but you wouldn't know the full depth of it.
Seen them live 7 times now, never disappointed. Doing that for nearly 40 yrs. earns the reputation and admiration they have earned. Only one thing sucks nowadays is the price of a ticket to the show. Back in the day you could get a general admission ticket for $25. No assigned seating!
Fun fact they play it faster than the original and James do all of this with singing xD A fucking beast
It was epic!!

james is great with enunciating his words you can understand what he's singing about
Seek and Destroy - Metallica in that concert 🥰🥰
Nice reaction ❤️
Life is just like a Metallica song.
In 8 minutes they can both make us feel and seem so chaotic and complex. But at the same time beautiful and calm.
Cliff is the reason and the answer why the song and albums are that legendary!!!
I saw Metallica way back in 1994, and they are an amazing live band, still killing it today! Great reaction!
"creeping death", if you liked Enter sandman you're going to love it again from moscow 1991
The best version of this is in Seattle 89. Please do the reaction again 🤞
Seen Metallica twice live, all around 60 years and still going hard! My favourite metal band of all time!
Classic song and a really good performance, but for live reactions of them I highly recommend the live performance at Seattle 1989, Metallica at their prime. That concert is pure energy
The performance of 'Creeping Death' in San Diego, 1992 was Metallica at their absolute fucking peak. Just complete and total command and intensity.
The lyrics of the song are coming from the perspective of the drug/addiction tempting someone to keep it up, tp keep in that addiction: I will occupy / I will help you die / I will run through you / Now I rule you, too
You should watch Puppets live in Manchester 2019 in the absolutely pouring rain. I was there and it was magical!
Was great show friend I watch it in 2019 was GD as can be they where in that night
Keep it coming with the Metallica reactions, always so enjoyable to watch!
These guys are the best at live.
This is my top favourite song by Metallica and you're absolutely gonna love it, i can't wait to see your reaction 🖤🤘
lol Lars killing it with all of the gestures to the audience at the beginning hahah
Thank you.

I love that you love the drummer AKA Lars Ulrich
great live footage and they're hearts are in it the passion
I saw this band play live back in 2009, I remember the whole crowd was singing along to every song
Probably the best live version of that song!
you would see a lot of metallica fans cuz they're one of the Legends 😊
Hell yeah, the best! This is heaven in my ears! Thank you! 🤘
Should of watched the Seattle 89' performance of this!
Saw them in 1989, amazing band live and James has such an amazing rapport with the audience, one of a kind!!
You should react to creeping death live, from a concert with Jason. See how perfect his back vocal is.
Agreed. My friends always made fun of me for saying that like 20 years ago
Jason is metal!
Song choices have been so on point as well as the authentic, adorable reactions. Stay the course, you're killin it!
If you want to hear an audience sing... Megadeth - Symphony of Destruction HD (Live in Argentina) ... They even sing the guitar parts.
Wanna see a truly huge crowd? You should react to Metallica, Creeping Death, Moscow in 1991. Rumor has it there was 1.6 million fans.
Oh nevermind I see you reacted to Enter Sandman. You should check out Creeping Death though.
Re: your comment about how they look like they're having so much fun, that's one of the big things I've noticed in the official live videos from their current "72 Seasons" tour, they look like they're having a blast. Legendary status, Im so glad I got to see them this year. I have been a fan for a long time and they just ROCK!

7:!5 min THIS riff is what metal is all about!!!!
ADDICTION IS THE MASTER AND YOU HAVE TO OBEY UNTIL YOU FIGHT BACK!!!!
Im 90s kids growing up with this lighting strike heavy Music 🎧
You will never find so many people in the queue leaving a gig with a broken voice as you find at EVERY metallica gig.
The fact they wrote this song when they were 24 years of age is insane to me
I'd only ever listened to the studio version of this song. My son raved about it. I thought, yeah, it's a good song, I like it. But never got his enthusiasm. Anyway, 2017, they're playing London O2. actually the song is like in 3 parts, interested, trying, addicted.
I'm always love my job, teacher and driver, this song always make me a Master. 🎧
This performance definitely feels like tempo is faster than normal.
Best "Guitar-Solo" for the most fans is "fade to black" ;) This one here is legendary.

the drummer lars "riot" is an amazing word
When the crowd can do the show
Great reaction to an iconic song.
For anything before the black able ALWAYS ALWAYS go to the Seattle 89 concert. At their phenomenal peak
Metallica - “Damage Inc” is another good performance in Quebec, I recommend you to react to it .
Four horseman to Battery was GD as can be
The euphoric part of the song correlates with the euphoric high from the drug the user of the song was craving only to follow with intense despair and helplessness that follows in the song.
Love the Band! Love the song! Love the performance! Love your reaction!🤘🔥🔥⚡️
1 of my top 3 metallica's song
Thank you for appreciating Lars in your videos, as so many people give him shit, but he's a really fantastic drummer.
Everyone should experience live Metallica at least once. There's nothing like it.
Prince made me want to learn guitar; Lars makes me want to learn drums. When I retire, I'm buying both.
Metallica = Leyends🎸❤️🔥❤️
Great reaction ❤️ from Australia
Muscian, guy who shovels snow for neighbors, guidance counselor at a high school, part time dentist, You simply cannot fuck with this.
Thank you 🫂 positivity wooooooot! 🙌
Been able to see these guys only once but wow. Check out Harvester of Sorrow, Moscow
Still after over 35 years Master perfomed live is still about 10 to 20% faster than the original studio version
Metallica did their iconic Nothing Else Matters on Howard Stern- with Miley Cyrus on lead vocal. Get ready to hear the next female Metal star.
