A past boyfriend of mine and I were really into Paramore.. we had went to two of their shows together and had some matching shirts. He killed himself 6 years ago and I took a big step away from everything that reminded me of him and that time of my life..... Including this music . The Only Exception was "our song" and I associated so much of her voice with the embodiment of my own inner feelings towards my lover..... Once he was dead I couldn't bear to hear her singing, I thought. I feel incredibly guilty now, listening to this. I realize now that while I was taking a step away from Paramore that they were making exactly the kind of music I needed to hear. Thank you for being consistently talented and consistently deep and considering in your message. Thank you.
Dee C Music is one thing that can heal our wounds and take us back to places that have never been anything more than moments in time, that aren’t possible to return to otherwise. It’s where the magic in the world lies. I hope this music can help you heal all these years later. God bless.

Her sad songs in this album is the embodiment of "trying to be okay" by sounding happy when your world feels like it's fallen apart because of depression.
I love the fact that you can literally see her feeling the music through every bone in her body... is crazy how talented she is and how passionate she is!
You can just tell when someone is put on this planet for a purpose and hayley was put here to make music. The energy she has in every performance is crazy
I've had a crush on Hayley for over a decade now, she's so good. Paramore's ability to consistently put out good albums is amazing. I can listen to their whole discography and not have to skip anything, not many artists can do that
Ghostface GZA TRUUUUUUUUTH! One of the reasons I fell so hard for Paramore since 2005 was their ability to create music that I keep loving! The only song I’ve never liked was Still Into You.
David McDonald No, I'm not retarded, thanks for checking. Energy doesn't have to be how she moves. Her voice has a lot of character, she's adding a lot of colour and choppiness especially in the first song. She's just enjoying herself and that naturally means a performance that's more involved. But hey, open to interpretation and opinion!

This really changed my whole opinion of the album. I could just feel the energy from Hayley and started to really jam. Can't get enough of Fake Happy. I like the chorus and hook better in this version than I do with the full drum kit and sound. Hayley uses her voice so well rhythmically, almost like a percussion instrument. Justin's and Hayley's voices blends together so good in "Hard Times". Today is World Mental Health Day and Paramore has done so much to make me feel better throughout the last 10 years❤️❤️❤️ Thank You guys for being such a big part of my life.
Tiny desk is truly magical. Our local station, Maine Public, just bought an awesome space in Portland, and is planning to do a local tiny desk type concert. I hope it is as great as the NPR tiny desk.
I don't understand why no one is getting their Alternative Rock edge. There's more to music than just Rock, Pop, Country and Rap. There are so many sub-genres. If you truly open yourself up to paramore's lyrics and sound....man it would be great
"alternative rock" can mean so many things it's ridiculous. The genre of rock has become so diluted to the point that almost anything can be considered "rock".
Things I've taken from this performance: it's so much funkier stripped down, I love it. The OP-1 is perhaps the coolest synth ever. Zac is too cool for school. Hayley is too sweet. Ace one!
Amy Naylor just ordered an OP-1. Been watching so many videos on them and when I heard the synths kick in I was like I wonder if someone is playing an OP-1 and they were haha!
Oh we're looking at different synths xD Not the black drum machine Zac is playing, the lil white sampler on the other end. The colours of the dials match with that of the OP-1
I never listened to Paramore back in the day, I wasn't a pop-punk kid so I didn't feel the need to check em out. I watched this performance last year, I did a deep-dive, and Hayley/Paramore are one of my favorite musical acts ever. Her solo stuff is amazing, and After Laughter is one of the best albums of all time. Wouldn't have looked into them without this video, thank you for posting.
facts after laughter is one of the best albums of all time i love that album so much ever since it came out i have so many memories with it and i still love to listen to it till this day, funny enough ive never seen this video before until today so we’re kind of like reversed😂
Hayley looks the complete opposite of grown up. You'd think she got into experimenting with mom's makeup and put on a bunch of dirty laundry. Plus it looks like she cuts her own hair. Jk.
Been a fan since I was 12. I'll be 21 in a few months and I just saw Paramore in concert for the first time last weekend in Philly. It was THE most amazing experience for me. I couldn't even believe it. All their songs were amazing, and Hayley killed it as usual. But when she sang 26, everyone in the venue was singing along and it was really just so surreal. Can't wait to see them again xo
watching her sing 26 with the camera just on her the whole time felt like an intrusion, like when someone catches you with a sad look on your face before you can clear it of emotion. much love for this song, this album, this band. always so raw and genuine
@@Racheldorenofficial for many instruments you play the note and it comes out perfectly. Assuming it’s tuned. Human voices struggle to hit the notes of the song live. Or they waver and float in and out of the note. She hits the pitch like she’s pressing a button.
what makes paramore different from other, is their performance live is so different from the studio version and usually it's better than the studio version. and hayley always finds a fun way on a new rendition of their songs, singing live
So thankful to Taylor and Hayley for writing After Laughter. Helped me through a rough period and I still listen to it daily. They're like the Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham of this generation in my opinion.
I was a HUGE paramore fan when I was young. I understand that everyone changes and evolves and I respect that and I understand that they have to do whatever kind of music they want. But I did want to say that I throughly enjoyed 26. It's the most I've felt listening to paramore in years!
blameitonablackstar Personally I love their new album (and I was skeptical). They've always been my favorite band. Their new sound took some getting used to but now I'm here for it.
Having been to one of their Tour one concerts this year I can admit they are different. But (and that's a big but) i could feel them being honest. Like growing up with me. I did have the time of my life cried and laughed so they are still my favourite band. I hope they keep changing if we get to have such emotional pieces from them.
erin s That's cool, I'll agree that this album can grow on you more than the first listen :) What draws me in are the awesome lyrics. It's unexpected and hidden beneath the surface of the pop beat, but it's right there.
I can't believe this actually happened. I was the biggest Paramore fan for years and seeing Haley doing so well and still slaying her vocals after all these years makes me feel proud.
Greatmindsthinkalike Paramore has been alive for a long time - since 2005, and boy have they had a journey! They have evolved their music and a lot of people dont like that, but Im glad to see you like it. Check out their album - After Laughter.
I'm 15 and have listened to them since I was 9-10 because my now 23 year old sister absolutely loved them, went to see them lie and everything. Only for the last couple years by choice but honestly listen to all of their stuff it's amazing!
Hearing her perform 26 hit me straight in the heart. Omfg. I didn’t find myself into that latest album as much but that song IS IT. So glad she performed. It was a bum out in a good way. Lol
I remember in one interview years ago, she had said it was creepy that older guys were at their shows….I’m sorry, I was one of those older guys….well written songs and talented vocals and instruments…good music can’t be denied…I’ll continue to gravitate to talent wherever it shows up!
@Oscar Hubczenko how so? He just admitted that he's a fan of her music. Just the same as anyone else that was at the concert. Great music is ageless and timeless.
"26" Man, you really know how to get someone down Everything was fine until you came around I've been chasing after dreamers in the clouds After all wasn't I the one who said To keep your feet on the ground? Man, you really brought me back down Hold on to hope if you got it Don't let it go for nobody They say that dreaming is free But I wouldn't care what it cost me You got me tied up but I stay close to the window And I talk to myself about the places that I used to go I'm hoping someday maybe I'll just float away And I'll forget every cynical thing you say When you gonna hear me out Man, you really bring me down Hold on to hope if you got it Don't let it go for nobody They say that dreaming is free But I wouldn't care what it cost me Reality will break your heart Survival will not be the hardest part It's keeping all your hopes alive When all the rest of you has died So let it break your heart And hold on to hope if you got it Don't let it go for nobody Hold on to hope if you got it Don't let it go for nobody They say that dreaming is free I wouldn't care what it cost me
Pablo V. No, she didn't, you can thank the record label she's signed to for that. Zac *came back* if he thought he was screwed over by her and only her he wouldn't be here, now would he?
I think Tell Me How also strikes a chord with sadness, but both 26 and Tell Me How go hand in hand. 26 is about the past onto the present and TMH talks about the present onto the future. I also really enjoy how that guitar sounds on 26 its like an alternative 90s guitar sound
Maybe it's weird, but the part of Tell Me How that always gets me emotional is the outro: "You don't have to tell me if you ever think of me / I know you see me dancing wildly in the fog of your memory / You don't have to tell me, I can still believe." That very last line is just... heartbreaking.
IceMetalPunk I agree, its just such a wondering/self evaluation overlook kind of song. Like All i wanted or misguided ghosts. Its not like a teenage pity kind of sad song, its a genuinely mature kind of handling vibe I get
After Laughter is one of my all-time favorite albums. It should've won Best Album of 2017, it's that good. I wish I would be able to hear it being performed live by the whole group. Miss you so much, Paramore
@@MitsuoRLCoach I agree with both you and sup_victor. She's definitely been in some successful collabs, won awards, and been nominated for some big awards. But she should definitely be sought out to be in more collaborations and win more prestigious awards from back then and now. That's where I think she is under-rated; she's successful, but should definitely have more fame than she did back then and does now (especially now). If I name Haley Williams to a stranger, there's a high that they wouldn't know her unless I say lead singer of Paramore versus if I were name someone like Adam Levine, Katy Perry, or P1nk.
You look at the trajectory of Paramore and you see that it's more about being buddies than chasing fame. Hayley could ditch the band if she really wanted, but she doesn't. She's still affected by the breaking up of her friend group and hurt relationships from years ago. Paramore has had a lot of themes of loneliness ever since the big break up. Even if everyone has made up, it's not the cozy ol gang it used to be.

I cried a little watching this knowing that I used to a big fan of Hailey. Now, 11 years later she's still my adolescence dream girl.
even more when you get depressed with them too, I can assure
I love hayley says 26 is a sad song as if the rest of the album is not depressive af
Ya, but as Hayley said, it's the most transparent... while all the others are hiding behind a mask
True hahaha
It's basically almost like every The Smiths discography
I think the reason it’s transparent is that it’s the only song that describes what we should be holding onto and that is hope whereas the other songs describes the feelings and what we use to put on a facade. I may be wrong though but that’s how I interpret on why 26 is a transparent song.
It’s not the most upbeat song from all the other songs too.
Always compare that song to the others and plus it’s also the song with a number which I think denotes her age but yeah I am just guessing that.
PS this is also not a very depressing song. In fact it’s a pretty optimistic song. It talks about hope and dreams. Hence the transparency.
26 is the least depressive/most hopeful song in the album. All the other ones are depressive just with an upbeat rhythm
Her sad songs in this album is the embodiment of "trying to be okay" by sounding happy when your world feels like it's fallen apart because of depression.

Oh yeah, that part makes me feel a bit gloomy😔
8:21 is the handshake...
I feel like he was complimenting her flawless singing in that song
I don't understand why no one is getting their Alternative Rock edge. There's more to music than just Rock, Pop, Country and Rap. There are so many sub-genres. If you truly open yourself up to paramore's lyrics and sound....man it would be great
It's people who were born after '99 and never got a taste of Alternative music.
Humans love categorizing everything in boxes. And when something fits in more than one box or they can't find a box, there's a lot of upset ppl.
Ehh no, Hard Times isn't rocky. RIOT and Brand New Eyes were, this isn't.
Speaking of those that completely ignore that there was such thing as alternative rock...
From what I can tell there's no OP-1 in this video... right?
The lil synth that the dude on the end is playing ain't it?
I think it's a Roland TR-8 (thank you close up for Fake Happy), so bad ass though
Wouldn't have looked into them without this video, thank you for posting.
check out Santigold. she has a Tiny Desk Concert as well 🙂. Deftones are good too
So True
facts after laughter is one of the best albums of all time i love that album so much ever since it came out i have so many memories with it and i still love to listen to it till this day, funny enough ive never seen this video before until today so we’re kind of like reversed😂
I’m a later bloomer on the pop punk kid music and my god. I missed out,
Listen to BNE. It’s an album you can listen straight through
she has and always will be one of my biggest inspirations, adore her, her voice, and her lyrical talents💗
❤️
Same! Love her💞🥰
They look so grown up, but still Paramore
OTR Means On The Run yes indeed they do.
Hayley looks the complete opposite of grown up. You'd think she got into experimenting with mom's makeup and put on a bunch of dirty laundry. Plus it looks like she cuts her own hair. Jk.
Also all the original members are gone except for Hayley
Deziree Brock Zac came back tho
Taylor's still here too
Been a fan since I was 12.
Oh my god her vocal range is so amazing
i am the only one that like old paramore AND new paramore?
I love Paramore, they will always be one of my favorite bands.
I love both of them too I think it’s amazing
Love it all
Definitely not! I just jammed out to the entire riot! album and After Laughter
Paramore's entire discography is great!
watching her sing 26 with the camera just on her the whole time felt like an intrusion, like when someone catches you with a sad look on your face before you can clear it of emotion. much love for this song, this album, this band. always so raw and genuine
she plays her voice like an instrument. lovely to watch
I am curious… what do you mean by this? All voices are instruments so I’m curious what stands out to you about the way she sings
@@Racheldorenofficial for many instruments you play the note and it comes out perfectly. Assuming it’s tuned. Human voices struggle to hit the notes of the song live. Or they waver and float in and out of the note. She hits the pitch like she’s pressing a button.
@@Racheldorenofficial do you not agree that hayley williams is an incredibly talented vocalist?
@@briansounalath She does dodge a lot of notes though completely skipping them
what makes paramore different from other, is their performance live is so different from the studio version and usually it's better than the studio version. and hayley always finds a fun way on a new rendition of their songs, singing live
So thankful to Taylor and Hayley for writing After Laughter. Helped me through a rough period and I still listen to it daily. They're like the Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham of this generation in my opinion.
lespatriotsfan that was the most amazing comparison! you’re so right 🙌🏻
did they bang?
Maddie Adams lol Thanks! Glad you agree 🙌
lespatriotsfan *and Zak
Beth McFarlane And Zac what? lol He worked on a few songs but the album was written by Hayley and Taylor
Their new sound took some getting used to but now I'm here for it.
ive enjoyed a couple singles in the past but i definitely prefer their new sound, even if some paramore fans may hate me for it
Having been to one of their Tour one concerts this year I can admit they are different. But (and that's a big but) i could feel them being honest. Like growing up with me. I did have the time of my life cried and laughed so they are still my favourite band. I hope they keep changing if we get to have such emotional pieces from them.
Still happy that they're slaying those critics score, most critically acclaimed LP done by them. Even fantano accept dis
erin s That's cool, I'll agree that this album can grow on you more than the first listen :) What draws me in are the awesome lyrics. It's unexpected and hidden beneath the surface of the pop beat, but it's right there.
0:00 “Hard Times”
3:48 “26”
8:39 “Fake Happy”
26 is all it should be. Honest, sad, inspiring, and melodically impeccable.
26 looks so painful for her to sing and it breaks my heart but I'm so grateful she wrote it
Hayley has truly learned to use her voice as an instrument on this record what an amazing and rare talent.
All I could think while watching this was "damn. This is insane." This makes me excited about music again.
Her control is absolutely mesmerizing
I can't believe this actually happened. I was the biggest Paramore fan for years and seeing Haley doing so well and still slaying her vocals after all these years makes me feel proud.
Saw her live this year at the weenie fest. Her stage presence and energy is unbelievable you can feel ever word she sings
kimchi WEENIE
The guitar sound/effect of taylor in 26 takes me back to a point of my childhood times man im crying 😢
TEAM VIP yeahhhh emotional very
She’s one of the best to ever do it - no one can tell me different
Never heard this band before, but that's why I listen to Tiny Desk!
Love their style, very creative
Greatmindsthinkalike Paramore has been alive for a long time - since 2005, and boy have they had a journey! They have evolved their music and a lot of people dont like that, but Im glad to see you like it. Check out their album - After Laughter.
When are you born? Well you're in a treat.
Greatmindsthinkalike ck more of their stuff out. They're awesome!
I'm 15 and have listened to them since I was 9-10 because my now 23 year old sister absolutely loved them, went to see them lie and everything. Only for the last couple years by choice but honestly listen to all of their stuff it's amazing!
I love After Laughter because it’s a sad album disguised around happy-sounding music
It took me four listens (of the album) to realize 🙌🏽
Paramore is not a band. Its an emotion 😢
It definitely isssss 😭
Hearing her perform 26 hit me straight in the heart. Omfg. I didn’t find myself into that latest album as much but that song IS IT. So glad she performed. It was a bum out in a good way. Lol
Damn Hayley 1:45 back again at the low note 😍 shes awesome
This woman's vocal range and control!!
TheGreenerItGets out of control!
*me every time they upload a new video* okay THIS is my favorite tiny desk concert
26 is such a stunning song!! this stripped back version like this is so beautiful!
Top production as usual. The articulation on those shotgun mics is to die for. Hayley deserves it!
I love how they keep evolving their sound, but the song writing structure is consistently catchy and innovative.
i love how the rhinestones on hayley's makeup mimicking tears falling down
I remember in one interview years ago, she had said it was creepy that older guys were at their shows….I’m sorry, I was one of those older guys….well written songs and talented vocals and instruments…good music can’t be denied…I’ll continue to gravitate to talent wherever it shows up!
that's kind of funny. I guess it depends how old but haley is a superstar and she has a lot going for her. She attracts many different types of fans.
Music has no age limit!! You do you!
I’m guessing that’s when she was like 17 of 18?
thats a strange thing to admit
@Oscar Hubczenko how so? He just admitted that he's a fan of her music. Just the same as anyone else that was at the concert. Great music is ageless and timeless.
"26"
Man, you really know how to get someone down
Everything was fine until you came around
I've been chasing after dreamers in the clouds
After all wasn't I the one who said
To keep your feet on the ground?
Man, you really brought me back down
Hold on to hope if you got it
Don't let it go for nobody
They say that dreaming is free
But I wouldn't care what it cost me
You got me tied up but I stay close to the window
And I talk to myself about the places that I used to go
I'm hoping someday maybe I'll just float away
And I'll forget every cynical thing you say
When you gonna hear me out
Man, you really bring me down
Hold on to hope if you got it
Don't let it go for nobody
They say that dreaming is free
But I wouldn't care what it cost me
Reality will break your heart
Survival will not be the hardest part
It's keeping all your hopes alive
When all the rest of you has died
So let it break your heart
And hold on to hope if you got it
Don't let it go for nobody
Hold on to hope if you got it
Don't let it go for nobody
They say that dreaming is free
I wouldn't care what it cost me
Andreea Mocanu ty💙
Whats this about tho fam i need explanashun

Hayley is the kind of person that put milk in the bowl first so the cereal’s gonna have a soft landing.
That's so random, funny, and profound at the same time.
LOL no. She screwed over her old band mates.
Pablo V. No, she didn't, you can thank the record label she's signed to for that. Zac *came back* if he thought he was screwed over by her and only her he wouldn't be here, now would he?
Preach Kristen!!!
Lol
You can see the hurt in her eyes during 26
AZenith22B I had to look elsewhere while listening 😢
if I'm not mistaken, she's also crying.
Bob Ross!
I come back to rewatch this every few months and 26 still makes me cry every time
My two favorite female lead bands- Paramore and Florence + The Machine, have both done a tiny desk concert. Thank you NPR, you guys have great taste
Its not like a teenage pity kind of sad song, its a genuinely mature kind of handling vibe I get
I think taylor use chorus pedal on 26. If that's what your thinking of that sound.
Nico Valenciano A chorus pedal? Sounds like that and some other pedal.
Brooke Jones so we’ll never see them play tell me how live? Damn that’s sad :(
God I love their evolution. so proud to be a paramore fan.
After Laughter is one of my all-time favorite albums. It should've won Best Album of 2017, it's that good. I wish I would be able to hear it being performed live by the whole group. Miss you so much, Paramore
An underrated vocalist!!!!
who?
@@xaisatsana the person recording
in what world is she underrated lol where do you live?
Even if everyone has made up, it's not the cozy ol gang it used to be.
she sounds just as good, if not better live. Which is rare. I mean she sounds so so very good.
me through the video :
hard times : dancin
26 : cryin
fake happy : still cryin but with a little dance
Fake happy
Ouch-z 😖
Crying with an in sync head bob
Trying to dance the sad away
Zac Farro, Taylor York, Joey Howard. The lovely Hayley Williams. What beautiful chemistry.
This is amazing as always
ARTV Ayo Jon, had a feeling you'd be here
It always makes me happy when I see you comment on Paramore videos 😂
I kind of knew you'd be here
It's JONNY
amazing as alvvays
their heads are all in sync at 9:31 haha
Can't stop watching now
haha best comment!!!
You made my day with that comment HAHA
Lol!
Thanks, you made laugh.
Damn this is awesome. I don't really know this band that well, but I have respect for their skills. Also, the sound engineer for NPR always kills it.
