It hurts and it will hurt every time you hear that one song that connected you to his music. I never heard him the first song was 2009 on this video. I was like wow
I will be 5 years sober this Friday. Mac I hope you know how many people you touched with your gift of music and your beautiful presence. We love you. ❤
@DiamondTreeCompanyFortCollins Found out I was pregnant with my daughter in 2019. At the time I was also taking care of my mentally ill mother. I got sober so I could be there for them. Eventually I stayed sober for them and for me.
Mac grew from being a basic high school vibes rapper to a passionate and complete artist. It's awful that we won't be able to witness performances like these anymore. Rest In Peace Macadelic
For real. He was all set up to go down that mainstream path but chose to go down the artistic path instead. Huge props to him for being himself unlike these pathetic mainstream rappers today.

Notnjust sayin that cuz hees gone but like u said his growth as an artist is amazing .. Ive never been a huge fan but ive always listened to him since about 2012 and hes evolved every album but this performance is on the level of the roots

I'm Brazilian and just know Mac Miller this year... i've heard his albuns for one month, followed her on instagram and after more than one month I could undertand his is not alive. It was a shock to me, i really became a fan. It's a very weird feeling, missing a guy I didn't even follow his trajectory
I just met the dude last week. I'm almost 40. What a life I've wasted. I feel like this is a torch I need to try to carry forward. Mac ain't dead. I won't let it happen .
you can see it in his eyes... as a recovering fentanyl addict, i can immediately see the "why am i feeling empty still?" in his eyes.... heartbreaking.
My sister passed away and I’ve been struggling to feel emotions there’s been a huge block. The first 5 seconds of this video brought out all my tears I had trouble releasing. RIP to both her & Mac ❤️

Here on the 4th anniversary of your passing. The world misses you and I can't help but wonder what you would have accomplished and being able to witness your music and career evolve/grow if you were still here. Rest well Mac and thank you for being you.
A buddy of mine exposed me to Mac Miller. We listened to him a lot and eventually commiserated over his death. My friend committed suicide this year and now I sit and listen to him alone, thinking about life and death in general and it's a bittersweet tune. This is my favorite recording of Mac and I wish I could text my friend right now. May their life memories stay positive and long for years to come. But mostly, I just miss my friend.
I lost the love of my life, the father of my children to suicide. I know how much it hits you. The only words he left were “Memento Mori”. I have lost a lot more than him and someone once told me that grief is all the love we had left to give to that person, it really made sense to me. I’m sorry to hear about your loss and I hope you’re doing well.
If you listen to some of thundercats interviews after Mac passed, you can tell how much he loves Mac. He said Mac would have done the same thing for him.
I've listened to this multiple times per week for the last 3 years and it's as if it's the first time every time... What a talent & an even better person we lost. RIP Mac

3 years later crying harder than before. It’s almost like I’m mad I have to keep going and realize how long it’s been since he’s gone. Not fair. Rip our angel Mac miller forever
I'll never get over his passing...he was the most inspiring and talented artist ever. Always so happy to play with his musicians and just in love with music in its purest form. Very strange feeling to miss someone you haven't even known in person.
I feel like Mac and I were synced up, it hurt so much when he died after releasing Swimming I felt like we were both on the come up. He sounded so happy on that album, RIP to the bro I never met
I've been on this tiny desk concert hard for the last 3 weeks.. I wasn't a huge Mac Miller fan, but finding this performance; as a music fan, I had to keep it on repeat. Just yesterday I saw my sister and my 2 year old niece and one of the things I had to do was show them this concert and groove and and dance to this this great artist. RIP Mac Miller.
Dennis Lopez same with me... this was in repeat mode and I truly enjoy the vibe, the smiles, Thundercat and Mac connection... I wasn’t a huge fan like you but that’s just a powerful performance and I respect and love it so much. Your comment resonates with me because I was sharing this performance to all my friends and saying “this is so powerful, so perfect and professional, pure entertainment, without fake shit”... RIP Mac Miller ❤️ “Music is a beautiful thing”
I come back to this Tiny Desk Concert often and it hits just right. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. 👏 There’s a certain type of “rawness” to his art and it will never grow old. He’s so humble. I love this type of live performance in an intimate setting for him because his talent and vulnerability really shines through. He also blends so well with the other amazing artists in this performance. They’re all just vibing off the same moment and are totally in sync with each other. It’s a solid piece of work. It’s so easy to feel their passion. 😚🤌 Mac Miller was such a unique person and his essence is a rarity.
Mac Miller (Vocals), Thundercat (Bass), Justus West (Guitar), Klynik (Keys), Joe Cleveland (Bass), Kendall Lewis (Drums), Robin Fay-Massie (Violin), YaShauna Swan (2nd Violin), Lelia Walker (Viola), Melanie Hsu (Cello)
Probably the 100th time I've listened, but as soon as the violin starts on 2009 I'm struck with goosebumps and tears. Every single time. And to see everybody still coming back feeling the same way is truly incredible. RIP dude. Thanks for helping heal us all.
He died on September 7th, 2018. It's saying online they released this tiny desk concert on August 3rd 2018. That should be 35 days in between the release of this and his death if the info I found is correct.
This performance of 2009 is what got me back into Mac. I listened to him a lot in highschool and then thought I grew out of his music and assumed he was still doing the same kind of stuff based on only hearing radio songs. Until I came across this. And I went back and started listening to the entire swimming album on repeat and then through all the others. It’s so impressive how you can see his growth and change through his music. He didn’t pick some “winning” recipe and ride it out till the end. He made music based on who he was at the time. We definitely lost someone special when we lost Mac.
I’ve never felt such an immense feeling of loss regarding someone that I’ve never met or seen in the flesh …I’m just as heartbroken about his passing today as I way 6 years ago. Rest easy Mac🤍🤍🤍
Hate missing someone you'll never get the chance to meet. Grew up my whole childhood with my older brother playing his music and I never got the money to see him in concert due to my age at the time. Sucks to be in a position where I have the money now and I'll never see him.
Ethan Goddard that’s the wrong way to look at it bro, i never got to see him live either but you know what? i can feel his spirit when i listen to his music and i cherish and celebrate the beautiful art that he gave us while he was here. ✌🏼
You can tell "2009" took Mac to a whole new level that was a cornerstone in his life. Its a year full of guilt, lessons, and sweet remembrance for him. Mac...you are missed my guy
5:42 commenting this for me because i keep coming back to this performance of whats the use THE PURE ENTHUSIASM BETWEEN MAC AND THE BAND GETS ME SOOO HAPPY AGSKDBSHSKDB
On Zane Lowe's show Thundercat described getting the call from Mac to do the tiny Desk and flying from Europe in the middle of his tour just for this. I'd love to hear all they recording they have together that are stashed away
Mac’s smile too man, it’s so sweet seeing these guys playing together when they’re clearly both such big fans of each other, as Mac says “it’s a beautiful thing”
My 2yo son has had this on repeat for the last year. It’s one of the few things we can throw on to calm a tantrum. Its actually crazy how much Mac has been part of my life even as a new father.
That’s awesome! This is one of my favorite videos on UA-cam. I come back every couple months when I need it! Sick to hear it’s still impacting the youngins. “Ooo I’ve been a fool, but it’s cool, that’s what human beings do, keep your eyes to the sky never glued to your shoes” Wish I knew what that bar meant as I was growing up. Your sons got good taste.
The fact that my comment made over 2 years since this video has been posted gets a like within 15 minutes proves the lasting legacy of Mac. Rest easy legend
@@alexcheskie9446 They had some amazing connection. Thundercat actually interrupted his European tour to fly to NY to see Mac and play this one song. He headed out right after the concert. I was a Thundercat fan first, and I didn't realize how close they were. I mean, Thundercat was the last person Mac ever spoke to. The night he died they had just talked. Heartbreaking. But Mac lives on in Thundercat's music and in his heart. All our hearts.

@@smh02 yeah, this was the first Tiny desk concert (in video of course) i listen to, and always it been my favorite, it hurts me that i discovered Mac's music too late
@@marioalberto1371 my exact sentiments. I just found this tonight. And it made me smile and sad when my son told me this young king was already gone. 😭😭💚❤
IDK, I thought back initially how this was the first posted concert after the inertia freestyle. I swear it was why I thought even by accident he would never kill himself, I mean he was talking about hiring otr string instruments and the dread head being on tour w him. But now how when I think about my impression of the overall album after he died, it's almost tongue to cheek how obvious he was trolling he needed help. And I can't tell you about my gut and all this makes Mr feel 😕
If 100 million posthumous streams isn't an indication of Mac's legacy, I don't know what is. Big love to Mac for creating this masterpiece... and the fans for their commitment to keeping it alive.
This tiny desk concert is the best grounding tool that I've found. His honesty, integrity and humility continued to grow and he would've continued to dazzle everyone including himself if he wasn't taken before his time. Rip Mac. I live with cptsd and probably adhd/asd, about to be assessed for the last two. Having UA-cam recommended this clip to me when I really needed it, was a little piece of divinity in a seemingly more-growing doomed civilisation.
The comments on here give me chills & remind me that there's so much good in the world. I love that we refuse to forget him & keep coming back and watching this. And we all feel the exact same way. Damn. We really lost a good one.
We sure did, i have good memories listening to mac that was back when things were easy for me, now im just depressed all the time but when i listen to this it helps me calm down
Jaden Smith hey man good luck with your struggles. Just remember you are not alone we are all connected thru music and thru the universe. I wish you the best of luck.
It’s crazy just how many times I’ve replayed this live performance and remembering every single little detail like the band members laughing, the audience clapping, Mac’s words and mannerisms and Thundercat’s verse on What’s The Use?
Doesn’t matter how long it took you to get here, it only matters that you did. Life with Mac’s sound in it was so necessary it seemed... Thanks for giving him love, dead or alive. Music is a beautiful thing. Edit: Other than that live bass line in “What’s the Use,” my favorite thing to come back to is the updated and latest comments.
@@jim5173 ya man! When he signed w an actual record in 2015 is when this sound started to come out of him. I’m personally a fan of all of his albums, it’s like you can still kind of find those melodic gems in those earlier albums, but GO:OD AM, when he signed, is really where I think he had the time and interests to introduce us to his melodious side. And every album after that. 👍🏻

"music is a beautiful thing". Really hits home how Mac pokes fun at his own cliche then delivering one of the most impactful performances of a song for me in my life. I hope he understood his impact on others despite the sadness he felt inside. RIP Mac
Mac, Thank you. When I was very lost, I listened to your music and somehow found it extremely therapeutic. Thank you for wearing your emotions on your sleeves. Thank you for sharing your pain with us in form of music. I am extremely sorry you had to go like that. I hope your soul finds peace. Where ever in our vast existence you may land. Thank you. For everything. At the end of the day we’re all KIDS. From a heart broken fan.
Him being gone doesn't register yet. I've always argued he was one of the cleanest catalogues out of any rapper. He progressed so much as an artist. When this tiny desk concert came out, I had it on repeat. Like everyone is saying, 2009 was a beautiful performance. I miss him.
It doesn't register for me either. Honestly feels like I lost a homie, or a true friend. My heart sank when I saw the news, his music is on loop 24/7 for me now.
I broke today watching this performance. Theres no more personal version of 2009 than this. I just had to cry. And it really lifts that heavy clod in my head. Someday I'll be able to smile about his music again. Now its more listening to not let him go than to celebrate his mastermind.
The level of deepness in his soul when he sings is unreal. So sad that he is gone. Never was a big fan of his but man this entire performance is just immaculate. Pierces my soul just watching his eyes as he sings. Deep stuff, RIP Mac.
Every time I see a tiny desk performance I come back to Mac. It’s may 2024 and I guarantee I’ll be back to it again. Anyone else here?

I just randomly thought of mac and watching a for the thousandth time. No clue it was his bday. But somehow he came into my mind today.
Yes his 29th birthday would have been today
Happy birthday to him!
Had to throw it on today. Wish I had this on vinyl.
sammmee I miss him like crazy🥺❤️
Fuck, I can't help but fight back the tears watching this. Such a down to earth guy, but a tortured/troubled mind. Rest easy, Mac. Thanks for getting me through High School. Blue Slide Park is waiting for you up in the skies 💔💔💔
5 years later and there’s still a pain in my heart when I listen to Mac or watch his live performances..
The reason it hurts to this day brother, is because he healed something we where goin thru then.....its ok we got this
I don’t panic I don’t sound the alarm
Still top 5 on my Spotify after all this time too. Can’t imagine how much his family misses him
…It’s a beautiful thang 🙌🏼
I feel like Mac and I were synced up, it hurt so much when he died after releasing Swimming I felt like we were both on the come up. He sounded so happy on that album, RIP to the bro I never met
The “2009” performance always hits. Rest in paradise.
Ryan Roberts always shed a tear when it plays
I always cry at that part
Really does hit different. Still crazy to think hes gone.
It goes from good to better to best.. ill stay watching this 👌🏽

Mac Miller was such a unique person and his essence is a rarity.
The performance by every single musician in “What’s the use?” was absolutely phenomenal. The bass and drums were in such control, my mind was blown
Thundercat is a beast. I recommend his music if you haven’t listened to it❤️
Yep 👍
And you see in the face of the pink haired musician that no one ever had more fun playing an Instrument than him.

Probably the 100th time I've listened, but as soon as the violin starts on 2009 I'm struck with goosebumps and tears. Every single time. And to see everybody still coming back feeling the same way is truly incredible. RIP dude. Thanks for helping heal us all.
"You never told me being rich was so lonely. Nobody know me. Oh well. Hard to complain from this 5 star hotel." RIP Mac. Amazing band, amazing work.
These Tiny Desk Concerts are like internet-era MTV Unplugged sessions; they always manage to bring the best out of the artist.

I felt like this video was like a big goodbye from mac miller and his team
Amen!
Only 20 days before passing away he gave us THIS, its impossible not to love this guy.
...for real ???
He died on September 7th, 2018. It's saying online they released this tiny desk concert on August 3rd 2018. That should be 35 days in between the release of this and his death if the info I found is correct.
it was also recorded much earlier, usually post production takes a month or more@@devontolly1596
Regardless, it's a beautiful display of musicianship. I will be coming back to this as long as I can.
You can tell by his demeanor that he was already out the door
This performance of 2009 is what got me back into Mac. I listened to him a lot in highschool and then thought I grew out of his music and assumed he was still doing the same kind of stuff based on only hearing radio songs. Until I came across this. And I went back and started listening to the entire swimming album on repeat and then through all the others. It’s so impressive how you can see his growth and change through his music. He didn’t pick some “winning” recipe and ride it out till the end. He made music based on who he was at the time. We definitely lost someone special when we lost Mac.
Look at him, staying young forever while we grow older.
😢
That hurt way more than it needed to😔
Don't want to grow old so I smoke just incase

hey Mac, just came to hang out with you for a little while. miss you bro.
This hurts, man. I've never felt anything like this from a musician passing away. I'm so glad I got to listen and experience his music. 😞

It's gotta be tough to keep the smile off your face when u get to play THAT bassline for people lol
I am so sorry for Thundercats loss, they made hella team their energy together is nothing to compare with.
Bro his egg rattle at the beginning was a genuine contribution, we need more egg rattle.
"Uh, I've been a fool, but its cool, thats what human beings do. Keep your eyes to the sky not glued to your shoes." This hit hard. R.I.P Mac Miller

Too little too late☹️
The fact that my comment made over 2 years since this video has been posted gets a like within 15 minutes proves the lasting legacy of Mac. Rest easy legend
i've been hitting thundercat after finding mac during quarantine. i didn't know they were involved together.... sick.
IDK, I thought back initially how this was the first posted concert after the inertia freestyle. I swear it was why I thought even by accident he would never kill himself, I mean he was talking about hiring otr string instruments and the dread head being on tour w him. Facts. This video only had 2.3 mil views before his death, and now its grown to 100million. God Bless Mac Miller.
