Back then, didn’t every team play a home-and-home against each of their divisional rivals? Add that to the fact that you had to win your division in the playoffs and that is the recipe for complete animosity! As a Leaf fan, I can honestly say that I had a palpable hatred for each and every Norris Division foe! It might have taken them a while, but the Leafs’ first (and only) Norris Division title in the 1993 playoffs was by far the sweetest revenge ever for years of mismanagement and struggle
Thanks for all your videos I grew up in this era of hockey, when men were men always had to keep your head up! Really miss those days in the old Chicago Stadium, the Arena in St. Louis and the Joe. Would have loved to have went to Maple leafs Garden!
@@michaelm3345Plus every team had multiple guys that could fight, not just the single “enforcer” that most teams (might) dress nowadays! What a great night this is watching the original six. I never watch todays game and its because of THIS is how it was and always will be played. Great share. RIP Probie
Man, watching clips like this, after watching the Canucks/Jackets game live last night (or any modern game really), you realize how much the game has changed! It was war out there back in the day!
@@grep67well it's impressive you can watch it at all. The new game is just to casual to me. It doesn't seem like the players care if they win or lose and if they don't why should I lol.
What I like is the neutral comments of Cole and Neale. Very honest! Imagine if it has been the homer Derek Sanderson. He would have told that Semenko gave a beating to Probert and Clark lost his balance during his fight!
I'm watching this in 2024 and it looks like these guys are playing in slow mo compared to today's game.... and the game has radically improved having the goon factor removed. But the commentators are the best... I now remember why I left this game behind for 20 years...
How the Maple Leafs have gone soooooo long w/o winning the Stanley Cup baffles me? I think Toronto would’ve put up a better fight Vs. Montreal in 1993 than Los Angeles w/ an aged Wayne Gretzky on the back 9 of his career.
The Red Wings had 93 points that year and made the Conference Finals before falling to a vastly superior Oilers team in 5, including an OT loss in Game 4 that would have tied the series
Only time I've ever seen Clark take a serious beating. Semenko avenged this by jumping Probert later, but Probert knocked the hell out of Semenko in the rematch.
Gallant jumped in just as Probert was getting going. Would have been a good one had he not done that. Remember reading something about Probert telling Gallant to stay out of his business from now on.
clark picked his spots, never squared up, & usually jumped the other guy. he did less well when the other guy knew there was going to be a fight. the beating mcsorley put on him was almost sad, except it was clark, so it wasn't.
Watching this in 2024 I can say honestly that I miss this era of hockey!!👍🇺🇸🇨🇦
Oh yeah 👍
I’m with ya 100%
RIP Dave Semenko RIP Bob Probert RIP John Brophy RIP Dave Newell
And Shawn Burr he past away battling cancer
Love these old games. Home and home series. Tough hockey. THE BEST! Thanks for the upload.

Make a original 6 division .

Gardens was fun. Depending on the night it was comparable to the Joe for atmosphere.
1987/88 one of THE Best years in league history.
Not for the buds
I always say it’s the best. The fights in the first half of the season to me were the peak of hockey fights.

Fighting peaked in the late 80s. and then Bettman became the commissioner in 1990 and started his rule changes and ruined the sport.

Hack and Whack, Lee Norwood and Gilbert Delorme....thanks Vin
I always called Norwood Driftwood
Miss this type of hockey.

Yeah they where actual rivals.
So true.. non-stop action, grinding along the boards, hitting, hatred... I can't get through and entire game today... its just awful.

Good Ole time hockey, I miss it.
Ahhhhhh, the good ol' days..
Bob Cole & Harry Neale. Proper commentary. And even better hockey.
This is Hockey!!
Oh Wendell, don't do that to yourself. You're an angry goal scorer, and that's great, but come on, you were never in his class.
14:47 Richardson would pay dearly for that hit on Kocur less than 2 months later🤣🤣🤕
Good old Norris Division matchup!
God,, the good ole days… so good the leafs and wings..

Stefan was terrible but so was their defense.

I never knew Semenko played with Leafs
Probert ended him not long after this
Saints tough guy Leigh Verstraete gets the call up from the minors for this game.
love it Clark thought he was a tough guy.. got whipped again
Harry Neal was great in Vancouver and Hockey Night in Canada
Wendel the wimp holding on for dear life...
Clark looked hurt after that one
He got pummelled and I say that as a Wendel Clark fan! That Probert was tough!
and it's a good thing, too.
I'm only 30 seconds into the video and I've seen so many penalties
Best arena in the history of hockey
who was in goal for Detroit at the end?
Manlingo Mungo

Semenko would get a Probert beating in the next dance.
Couplecold brantford alexander guys in this one
1:23 Stefan twice suspended for 8 games
Canadian commentators. He used the excuse of getting bumped to hit Stefan.
Hockey sucks now. More hitting in this game than half a season
Semenko lost his marbles, as usual...

Two poor hockey teams.
Maybe....... but the Red & White one went on to give Edmonton a bit of a hard time in the Campbell conference Finals.
