After the turnaround the previous season (split a season ticket during the abysmal 85/86 season), my buddies and I purchased 4 season tickets in 1987. Turned out to be a wise idea, as over the next 24 years we witnessed a lot of great hockey at The Joe. Was there that night, a great way to start off the home campaign. Thanks for another great memory awood!
Wow - you were there for the best of it. It must have been incredible watching the transformation in person - so much talent on the doorstep. Colour me green ...
Probert was a beast. I asked my younger friend who I knew was into hockey and she even played, "Who's your favorite Red Wing?" I'm expecting a "Zetterberg" or "Lidstrom" or "Yzerman." NOPE she comes back with "BOB PROBERT" My jaw hit the floor I was so impressed.
Thanks again for these highlights! Dave Lewis, Kilma, Probie, Joey and of course Stevie Y. So fun to watch! Any chance you could leave in any old time local Detroit commercials for all of us who grew up way back when? Just a thought. Mel Farr superstar... “And they cannot fly either!!”
Thanks for this old clip of highlights. I was a bit to you to appreciate this at 8 years old and living in England and I don't think England even had sky t.v back then. Either way I can see it now and it's way way way better that todays hockey.
How did you get into Ice Hockey then as i'm as old as you and from England i watched NHL on channel 5 before Sky still got the series against Colorado Avalanche on VHS somewhere it was insane edge of the seat stuff. I used to work a 15:00- 23:00 shift and get home in time to watch the games or I would record them and watch the day after. Lucky to see all our Stanley Cup Wins in my lifetime before the dark times.😢
A film called Youngblood ,WCW Steiner Brothers my favourite tag team were from Detroit and E.A Hockey then NHLPHA93 a team wearing red and white that looked like the fictional Hamilton Mustangs from Youngblood plus a thumbnail of Bob Probert fighting on the game is how I became a Redwing fan trying to replicate the film in the game . Glad I saw Youngblood (1986) first it was a 15 rated film and I saw it in 1989 then Mighty Ducks was the only other ice hockey film but it was aimed at kids lol
@@DaveTucker-yu6rx Youngblood got me into hockey and NHL 14 where there was constant fights and you could splat their head on the ice. My guy on NHL Legacy was Carl Racki and some say I was the best fighter on that game. I averaged 2 fights a game.
@@bobprobert353 NHL 14 Was the best I liked how they got black eyes and cuts lol NHL 22 is quite close but glitches a lot I was playing in the playoffs be a pro mode i play Superstar level realistic settings and no game sliders. I scored 4 goals and 2 minutes away from a shutout and the game froze I was so mad I had to quit the game and I warned me that it would simulate the rest of the game luckily won 4-0. I won that series and went on to win my 10th Stanley Cup as Redwings Captain I lost the final last season as I was out injured
Really good to see that the nhl and their ballerina refs have been consistent in their bias against the Leaf's back in 87-88 and they are still doing it to this day till bettman is gone the nhl will be the joke that it is.

This was a treat! Thanks Awood!
Probie with the GW goal. Gotta love it! RIP #24
Still loads of talent at that point. People forget about Adam Oates and Petr Kilma.

I’m more bummed that Klima’s second stint with the Wings didn’t work out, he was really skilled
Great quality, that was fun...ty
What a game!
Playoff like atmosphere and a wild 80s tilt. Goalies were great otherwise this could've been 8-7

typical fight by Secord...hugs n kisses
And jumps.
RIP Dave Strader
they need to bring the count down back !!!!
Probert and Kossar the original "Bruise Brothers"watch the video tapes of them fighting it's awesome
*Kocur
It's spelled Kocur.
1:36 …. Before all those eclectic foreign / Russian superstars were to come and dazzle… there was the jofa and the hair! 😂 #85
;D
Watching this video, it just reconfirms to me how much more exciting hockey was back then compared to the watered down hockey we have today.
