@@3009haikal that first few inches of the lift puts a tom of stress on my shoulders so I try and get a lift off anytime I go above 3 plates. But adding the foam blocks puts it in a higher position so you can move it without a spotter. I tried it about an hour ago doing shoulders and it worked great

Yea one of the best training partners I've ever seen he knew exactly how to get the most out of Derek muscles even sometimes when he tweaked the movements when Derek was preforming them you could see the muscle activate much more.

Machines have converging arm paths, barbell bench press has a straight path. Converging arm paths give you better mind muscle connection. The bench press is also very leverage dependent, some people will never have proper chest activation on bench press regardless of technique. Additionally machines allow you to go to failure safely. The bench press is a great exercise, but when you have access to machines, they are better. "in order to trigger new growth you need to activate stabiliser muscles" - this is inaccurate.
