I'm a claims agent and have been working claims for 10 years, this is all to common. It sucks being people the responsible party had no insurance and we can't cover the claims because they chose not to carry collision.

My side mirror was scuffed and I kept yelling at her to stop. After I snatched the cart she tried to hurry to her car. While I took photos of her plate she told me she wasn't giving me anything and her attorney would contact me. Long story short police was called and the officer advised me it was private property it would have to go to small claims. After getting the run around it fell on me to use my insurance. Come to find out the old lady was a sugar mama to a younger lawyer. It wasn't worth it and I ended up fixing the damages myself.
Ye insurance wouldn't cover what a shopping cart did regardless & even on a public road I believe the vehicles have to strike each other & a two parked cars & 1 door hitting the other isn't going to be covered

Best to be able to drive out of a space than to backup out of a space . And to back into a parking space is best . When leaving you have 180 degree view of oncoming vehicles and pedestrians . Though of course there is danger until you get to the entrance . At the Costcos I go to , people rountinely have blocked lanes " waiting " for people to leave , so LAZY .

But in long run it may end up being an even bigger headache to get it fix-fighting with their insurance company (which could take months), then if they even have insurance-you’d have to pay $500 or $1000 deductible yourself to get it buffered out on top of your insurance premium raising, taking time off work to go get quotes to repair, putting car in shop (which could take up to a week to get repaired depending on the backlog), paying to take her to court, again taking more time off work to deal with court, dealing with threats from her or her family from pushing legal battle, ughh. 😩Some battles aren’t worth fighting even when you are in the right.
