Milano-Torino & Americano Cocktails - Aperitivo | Jamie Oliver & Giuseppe Gallo
Вставка
- Опубліковано 13 лис 2014
- Aperitivo is the Italian tradition of having a drink and a nibble to stimulate the appetite ahead of your evening meal. For this video, Jamie's headed to the historic Caffè Platti in Turin, Italy to meet top bartender Giuseppe Gallo and make two classic aperitivo-style cocktails - the Milano-Torino and the Americano. Created in partnership with Bacardi.
Both cocktails start the same way - with Martini Bitter liqueur, Martini Rosso sweet vermouth and a wedge of orange - but the Americano has a splash of soda water to lighten it and finish it off. After the drinks, the boys talk through how to create the aperitivo experience at home, by finding some local foods and pairing them with your cocktails.
Try your own aperitivo evening at home and let us know how you get on. Which cocktail did you prefer - the Milano-Torino or the Americano?

I love these two cocktails - so classy. They remind me so much of when I was on business in Italy last year, having aperitivi in the piazza before heading off to dinner. Personally I'd use campari instead of martini bitter.
Daisy Martin So easy and seriously classy. The Italians know how to do drinks properly.
It's always a pleasure to watch your videos Jamie!
A little tipple tip: vermouth is wine-based and rarely exceeds 16% ABV - as a result it can go off quite soon after opening. Store in the fridge and, if you can obtain one, it's worth using a vacuum-seal wine keeper such as VacuVin to extend its life. Unless of course, you're a big fan of the aperitivo and your bottle doesn't last very long...
Iain Meldrum It rarely lasts very long in our house.
Just buy the smaller bottles of vermouth. Vacuume-seal, and keep it in the fridge It'll last a bit longer. Even if it does go bad it's not gonna kill you like bailey's would it'd just make the drink taste a bit off.
That's an interesting point - there was a test done a few years ago comparing Manhattans made with a freshly-opened bottle of vermouth and one of the same brand that had been sat open and half-empty on a bar for six months. The testers were split on which tasted better - and the theory was that people were so used to the flavour of 'off' vermouth that they thought that's how a Manhattan should taste.
But yeah it's not as if it's bad for you...
It is a perfect cocktail for me!
I lived in Milan and has been in Torino. Cool cocktail !!!!
Thank you for nastolgiya guys!
Sergey Sarychev Our pleasure Sergey. We love it too.
convincingly mouth-watering

Oh man, this sounds delicious. Gonna have to try this.
Great drink!! Thanks for the recipe, I can have it everyday ;)
This is such a great summer drink! So far I have only been familiar with the Negroni. Thanks for sharing. Keep up the good work :)))) I found the link to the drinks via your summer pasta or sausage pasta recipe! Soooo delicious! Many thanks.
Cool... I would love to have one. I’m going to my minibar station 😎🥳
Very nice)))
Nice and easy. Thanks!
Pleasure!
Nice! :)
This is one of my favourite drinks; and it only has 120 calories (or so I’ve been told) ☺️
Rubbing orange peel on the edge of the glass is great aswell!
Great shout. It's such an aromatic drink.
Mi-To - a big favourite! But ... you started an evolution, you just didn't finish. I'm sure, you know this all eventually finishes with the ultimate Negorni. ;)
Ahaha, il caffè Plattì. Prossima volta vada da Testa però :) Il gelato è fenomenale.
Super classy! So simple and so beautiful
Fotografando à Mesa :)
Nice looking cafe.
gary daniels It was BEAUTIFUL. Unbelievable place, if you ever get the chance to visit you should!
Torino-torino Martini is a brand from Turin
This throwing thing reminds me what is called the Cuban Roll ^^
Stevan Milaš What's that?
The other name of throwing, consisting in pouring the liquid from the tin filled with ice (can also be without) to the other and so on in order to aerate the cocktaill and have a lighter dilution. The higher you pour, the better the aeration
You will also see this with Sherry (a.k.a. Jerez, Xeres) from the southwest of Spain and Sidra (cider) from the north.
Funny thing... I also saw that in India, Bombay... But they throw everything, coffee, tea...
do you recommend any English brandy brands because my fiance and I are going to have a English theme wedding next May
Jamie, you are a reformer. In your trabels you should have devoted more time in this piedmont region. Apart from the best wines in the world, there are amazing foods

Can I swap the Bitter Liqueur with Campari?
You bet ! Gran Classico as well. There will be differences but it's the same core if I may say :p
Louis sent me.
James Wood Welcome!
that's not a Milano-Torino... the original is made with Campari (a bitter from Milano) and Punt e Mes (sweet vermouth from Torino). that's whole point of the name!
you can also add a splash of soda water.
another error is that they added the ice afterwards... you need to pour the content onto the ice already in the glass.
Kills me that they're not using Campari, heh.
you think i can use Campari instead of the Martini bitter? thanks.
yes
Well, that bar is in Turin. Martini's brand was born in Turin. You do the math. (Anyway, a lot of bars in Italy use Martini bitter instead of Campari)
originally turks calls it "meze" pal
Milano-Torino is only Campari e Punt & Mes
This is age restricted...
Milano - Torino... non Torino -Torino!!!! dov'è il bitter Campari!!!!! e soprattutto il Punt e Mes??!!
Non si sa. È completamente sbagliato. Dove cavolo è il Punto & Mes?
would be better with a slug of gin too.
A slug of gin makes everything better!
