    Piña Colada is my all time fav cocktail. This is the first time I am seeing someone taking s much care to make the shaken version. Thanks for the video :D I prefer the blended version though.

    So tempted to try the one with cocnut water! Sounds way more refreshing.
    1 thing i have noticed is you need really ripe pineapples which should be yellow all around, not the green one's. The riper the sweeter and tastier. Greens are too raw and unpleasant acidity when ate

    Pina Colada's are my all time favourite cocktail! Going to try the lighter version definitely, will be serving these up on my birthday party.. I tried to find the perfect pina colada on a trip to Spain not long back - unfortunately (surprisingly) I could not find one!

    Tip, don't add the sugar! I'm Puerto Rican, for sweeter taste add a bit more of coconut cream, is very sweet and the sugar can add a bit to much sweetness to it. Second, the ratio usually is same amount of coconut cream to pinnaple, but play with it, add more to taste depending on what you want more, pinnaple taste or coconut. Third barcardi is the best way to go for rum. Is made in Puerto Rico and the sweetness of the rum blends perfect with this flavors. 4th you can garnish with a cherry and pinnaple that's a very Puerto Rican thing. :)

      Joey Ortiz I spent a lot of time in Puerto Rico, where I learned to make Piña Coladas. I agree, ditch the sugar, and go for equal amounts of fresh pineapple juice and coconut cream. I prefer Don Q rum, but in a blended drink like a Piña Colada, you really can't tell the difference. The thing that really separates a Piña Colada made in Puerto Rico from one made anywhere else is the wedge of pineapple they garnish it with. It is white, not yellow in color, and has a lighter, milder taste that I love.

  • @MasinaTai86
    @MasinaTai86 8 років тому +1

    I'd add lime juice in the modern version and bananas in the traditional version and I wouldn't add sugar because the pineapple is already sweet.. and I wouldn't measure exactly how many pieces of pineapple or mls of coconut juice/milk or cream, I frickn love coconut cream and milk.. Or you could also try passionfruit in them.. pretty much any other tropical fruit but I think the ones I mentioned are more mix and matchable.. then pawpaw and mango.. I LOVE Soursop, in Samoa we call it Sasalapa and apparently it grows in South America too.

    I feel like the sugar isn't necessary if you have access to good pineapples. The pineapples at my grocery store are extremely sweet

    • @DrinksTube
      @DrinksTube  10 років тому

      jjaj1243 Good point, you can always tailor these recipes to your own taste and to reflect the qualities of your local produce.

    • @richiethebartender
      @richiethebartender 10 років тому

      Pineapples in the UK are normally harvested unripe and shipped like that to ripen on the shelf. We don't tend to get the sweetest pineapple because of that and you have to but the middle out. Check out Simone's video where he explains that.

      Taste it before you use it! If it's sweet (like coco Lopez) omit the sugar from the rest of the recipe!!!

    • @VinkPepijn
      @VinkPepijn 10 років тому

      If it is coconut cream it is unsweetened so you have to use the sugar, but cream of coconut is sweetened so you can omit the sugar if you use that

    • @Kalaskula2000
      @Kalaskula2000 8 років тому

      Read the recipe now..says 2 parts white rum and 1 part dark rum...so I was almost right :-P I guess the more dark rum you put the more "taste" from the rum you get...I'd probably stick to 2+1 :-P Mostly white rum that is :-P
