Good job in gathering all of these patterns to give people the perspective of what each camo would look like on different scenarios inthe whitetail woods. Honestly you can't really go wrong with any of them. For the ones that don't blend in on the ground look great in a tree and visa versa. then there are patterns that blend in on all situations. Even the old school woodland camo looks great.

Great video! A lot of really good camo patterns some better in the trees and others on the ground. I use ASAT and it's been great for me.
I like Asio, but it seems to have a blue grey hue to me and I can't shake it. If it was a bit more on the brown hue I think it would be great!

The best presentation I've seen on camo. Can get a good idea of what might be best for your type of hunting environment. The best I've found, and have used for at least 20 years, is a " loose leaf" type. I've got a suit each in faded green and beige/brown. With hood and face cover you're nearly invisible. The great thing is it can be worn over any clothing and removed easily. And it breaks up the human form which nearly every animal has been taught to avoid. With wearing the " HECS" clothing under my leafy suit I've had deer, raccoon, coyotes and wild hogs within 10 feet of me. Even cattle on their own pastures have moved by not noticing me. And if you know anything about hunting around cows you know they notice new/strange things in their pastures. Thanks for making this. I've got to get my son to watch it too.

The Browning-Wasatch, as far as I can tell, is actually a ATACS Tree/Dirt X camo pattern
That one's the best by a mile, in my opinion. Perfect backdrop color (distant trees/dirt), with the perfect pattern disruption colors(wood/leaf). And no colors that don't belong. The second I let my eyes fade, I'm able to lose the figure.
Runners up: all great patterns, just not my personal favs
    Multi-use:
Under Armor - Forest (great pattern breaks up figure well, but not mute enough for me)
FirstLite - Specter (a little bright, but almost as good as ATACS)
Mossy Oak (classic, almost perfect, not mute enough for me)
Natural Gear - SC2 Green (a little dark)
Kryptek - Altitude (make the white more tan & it's a win)
Pnuma-Caza (same as UA-Forest, break up the tan with lines/dots)
    Multi-Cam (a little bright)
    Greens:
True Timber - HTC Green (green is a little bright, background color is nice)
Kryptek - Mandrake (a little too green, needs bright foliage)
RealTree - Timber (very mute, just not my color choices)
    Browns:
Natural Gear - Origonal (great against only trees/dead leaves, not as much against foliage)
Under Armor - Barren (good for the same as the Forest pattern, just tan)
True Timber - Prairie (kind of looks like desert ATACS, tbh)

I would like to add years ago i had and eye injury to my one eye, and out of one eye i was color blind seen in black white a and grey kinda like deer. The ASAT camo pattern was the most invisible to me, at that time. Remember that most game except for turkey are kinda color blind too and that is what they see somewhat. This is from personal experience. Mossy Oak original bottom land did well under most circumstances for me. In my area of the country that stuff from the ground and trees still renders one the most unnoticed. I like your comment at the end the best THE OLD FRED BEAR saying "Stay still and be quiet" That still is the best.

I'm an old geezer who settled on Predator Fall Grey back in 1989, and I believe that as far as hunting whitetails from a treestand is concerned, as long as the wind is in your favor and they didn't catch you moving, any camo will do. That being said, some of these camos you presented seem pretty awesome. However. it pretty much boils down to what deer actually see, as opposed to what WE see. Probably a huge difference!

    • @CamoMatrix
      @CamoMatrix  Рік тому +2

Agree, after wind, movement and noise, camo is the last thing we need to worry about. In my newer videos, i have a deer vision filter, to see how they may see the camo that is based off of a study performed by the University of Georgia. With that info, what i can tell, is that most camo worn is really made to be appealing to human vision. When it comes down to really disrupting and confusing what a deer sees camo shape and color change drastically. From that perspective, i believe that there are only a few patterns out there that come close to concealing the human shape and/or take deer vision in mind. I have experimented with a few patterns of my own and from what looks the best in deer vision is far different from what is out there. As far as predator patterns are concerned, they are one of those who have the right idea.

I think the best patterns are the ones that have lots of contrast. So bold color differences instead of subtle. Personally, for deer hunting I think the other qualities of the clothing (warmth, comfort, durability, noise, scent control, etc.) are more important than the camo pattern. I believe in getting the best quality that fits your budget in that regard. For me in really love Sitka. They’re 100% worth it.

    • @CamoMatrix

I've noticed a trend of big name guys sticking with solids, especially out west. I wonder what that would look like on your style of doing comparisons. Like for example first lite pants in conifer, dry earth, and ash grey with the different types of camo jackets and then switch it, a brands particular camo pant with a solid color top, with "deer vision" and human vision. Also, what may be a good idea for another video would be different solid color pants in the colors I mentioned above with different styles and colors of flannel with the "deer vision" and human vision comparisons. Of course some camo companies may object to the flannel and solid color pants video lol.

I will say I was wearing some spectre that was given to me this year and I walking on the edge of a foodplot in the woods at dusk with deer in the plot. They looked up and then went back to feeding . I was walking down the edge of the plot in the knee high grass. It was nuts. Never had that reaction. I got within 25 yards and wasn't until walked INTO the road after walking all the way PAST the deer they alarmed..

Interesting. Not sure Specter was in this video but i have it in a bunch since then.
It is interesting how they perceive a threat and maybe the roadway was associated with threat. Last week I got thirty yards to one before it bolted and wondered why it took so long. I figured that it was because the vision isnt great and with the break up of camo and trees, brush etc that the deer have to wait either for better vision (closer) or scent to make their decision.

#1 a deer will never shoot at you and camo is for war!!! Those are tooo expensive!! Deer are color blind and can NOT see blaze orange but people can. The biggest mistake is washing any clothing in any detergent after 1980 when they put brighteners in it. Some years ago I was in Walmart and saw the clown suit it is called blaze orange sweat suit with dark limbs scatter on it. I wore it one cool morning scouting deer track the day before open season. I was setting in front of a cabin on the edge of a 100 yard field and a 4 point walked across and then stopped and ate some stuff not more than 3 feet in front of me and walked around me for a long 30 min. (I sat still) and four more big bucks ate out in the field. The next morning I put on my Mossy Oak camo all warm and cosy and again the young 4 point came across the field BUT at about 50 yards bellowed and ran, enough said. The best camo I have ever worn was Marine Corps desert camo it is the same color as the leafs on the ground. Dressed all warm under my camo I ALWAYS wear the clown sweats over as well as over my backpack. I hunt in MS. and Ala. and fill my freezer and some friends every year. Yes long ago the red flannel shirt was used in the woods by loggers so as not to be shot But with new brighteners the blue jeans glow and before sunrise and after sunset you will glow like a state trooper for a mile. Also put some of the new deer scent on a couple socks with hot hands in side, They will come right up to your blind and sniff.

Thanks for the comment and I would agree this is true for the last several decades. This was filmed a few years ago, and I think I was implying that before camo was really a thing, big bucks were often killed just wearing whatever they were wearing in the woods (so blue jeans and flannel isn't the best example of what everyone would wear). I failed to mention I was including a short modern history of hunting. My uncle (in his 80's and still hunts) when discussing hunting camo, says that he just went in the woods with warm clothing and the same with his father and grandfather.

A good video, but it doesn't represent how the camo looks in real life situations. Why? Because your camo images aren't reflecting the light from the actual woodland environment. The light reflection, shadow and contrast is fixed in the original photos of the camo and the background. Superimposing a static image onto another one means they simply don't interact with each other. If you filmed the real thing in the woods, it would look very, very different. Like most of these, Woodland camo 'blobs out'... the patterns and colours are lost and it becomes a dark, human shaped 'hole' in the environment.

Very true, watch some of my newer videos. My videos have improved but I do note that true light, true shadows and reflection will always alter how a pattern will appear. Some patterns will even appear to change colors. I try to give a starting point for general color blending of the pattern shape. I continue to improve but will never be able to simulate a real environment.

I wear Kuiu Vias simply because I like it. I don’t it’s actually helped me kill a single deer.

That is a statement most hunters should make. I think the tipping factor comes down to what keep you comfortable and was designed to suit your style of hunting. I like to call it a hunting uniform. Its gets you in the mood.

@@CamoMatrix Yep. I live and hunt out west and there is no doubt that the gear I get from Kuiu/First Lite is way better than what I pulled off the Walmart shelf when I was back in Tennessee. That’s not the same thing as the camo part though.

Thanks for the comment. Newer videos have improved but they will never be able to capture true lighting and shadows without using the real garment in real lighting. I also am over 100 patterns now in the collection.

True, most of the time, as long as you are still, quiet and have good wind you can wear almost anything.

Camo is a gimmick. Just wear natural colors. This has been proven time and time again.

NO GOOD!!!!! The lighting is wrong. You need the SAME lighting for the garment and the background. This is no good and please don't make decisions off this video!!!!!

    • @CamoMatrix
      @CamoMatrix  Рік тому

You are correct. Some changes have been made to attempt to alter the lighting in the camo to match the background. This method will always be flawed and is meant to just be a staring point.
The newer version of deer vision is also more accurate.
