Grandpa wore a red and black flannel and green wool pants. Shot deer every year took several elk and never wore camo.

Deer don’t often look up… they look at their horizon. They are not generally looking for predators above them. You guys should look at the research done by the University of Georgia on deer eyesight. This entire video is nothing like the way that deer see. Deer can also see the light reflecting off of the fibers that you are wearing, regardless of the color. So a cheap nylon blaze orange vest will look absurd to them, along with anything blue or white.

I wish they would have taken subalpine and just added more green to it. I think Cover has too much black for me to use across multiple environments.

Here are a couple of other factors… Anything that reflects blues or yellow. Fabrics with UV brighteners. Polyester with a sheen may be terrible even with a great pattern…

How will we know if a garment has been treated with UV brighteners?

In the States you might be able to get away with that but in Canada it has to be solid Orange

In real life hunting situations, the classic Realtree Edge pattern is just as effective as camo patterns on expensive camo. Ghillie suits aside, there are almost never real life hunting scenarios where this statement is true..."Well, if I'd been wearing pattern X rather than pattern Y that buck/turkey wouldn't have busted me". Important aspects of being camouflaged (in the visual sense) are 1) to cover your skin (hands and face too) since white skin really stands out in the darker woods. 2) Have back-cover. 3) Move very slowly when you move...even when up in the treestand or tree saddle.

I feel like that new Sitka is a little dark or blobs up too much.

I think the Sitka is still better for where I hunt but the other surprisingly good.

i think Vertek has a very good breakup function

The shadow on the stock Sitka pictures makes it stand out more in a lot of the pictures. Overall though, I feel like the Kryptek still blended in to most of the pictures better.

Honestly it may be the most versatile camo I’ve used it in tundra, late season woods mid season, evergreen forest, only thing that’s a bit tough is very green situations but it fares well there too. Best pattern they have

Walking on a clear trail through a chest high field in northern West Virginia the other day squirrel hunting wearing all m81 and cce the other day and had a buck that heard be leap over the trail and stop broad side close enough i could have theowna rock and gotten the perfect shot. Wasn't until I started walking again that he let out the quietest warning snort a d walked away

I bought some Real Tree Edge, Sportsman's guide, Put a Black light on it and the white in the pattern lit up like a Disco. Too many brighteners in a lot of Hunting Camo. It's a shame it's sold as hunting camo and their supplier sells them material that sticks out to Deer.

As with the Multi cam, works really well. Cheaper than the Branded hunting Camo. UV/IR dead also.

Check your local hunting guides. Some places like here in Ky where I live, it had to be plain blaze orange.

I hunt in Mississippi and I think that verde will work best here

No Sitka ? I’m outraged. Haha JK but would have been interesting to compare it to some of the more affordable brands. Biggest take away is the stuff with the light colors that may look counterintuitive to us, seem to work better. The light and dark shades are essential to getting the contrast necessary to break up an outline and blend in with a background. More and more manufacturers are going to these high contrast patterns.

Interesting. Kinda gives you an idea of what these things will actually like in the woods, or at least opens the door for some thought on how different patterns work, but the lighting and color of the stock pictures taken from many different places pretty much makes this irrelevant. (Notice how much different some of the tops and bottoms look even next to each other). I don’t have the cash to do this with real camo in the same shot either but I think that’s really the only way to get an accurate representation. Also I hear ya on the deer vision thing, and nobody really knows what deer see, but surely they do see things differently than we do.

In SC on public land during any gun season for large game, everyone has to wear solid international orange. It can be a hat, vest, or jacket, but it has to be on in a stand or on the ground. I just wear a hat and I can’t imagine it messes me up too bad.

You don't have to wear it if you're in a tree. But you better have it on before you come down.
