Nice video Charlie! The tech data is unmatched. The most underrated and forgotten upgrade in the diesel industry.

I have been waiting for something like this for a long time. The facts about the real benefits of upgraded 6.0 intercoolers has been a bit of an enigma. Thank you for making this, and all of your videos.

Years ago I went with the CSF heavy duty offering. Much stouter piece than OEM. I like to have the all metal end tank construction. For high boost 50+ you pretty much need a bar and plate style construction type. This KC turbo piece is really nice!

What are the odds we get a KC vs banks with the same data?

So can we stuff this in a 7.3, too, as a 6.0 OEM IC is an "upgrade" for the 7.3?

      @@jacobhammond5432 Here's what you need:
      1 - 6.0L intercooler
      1 - 3x3x8" intercooler boot
      1 - 3x3.25x8" intercooler boot
1 - 3" intercooler boot clamp (to replace the old 3.25" clamp that will no longer fit on the driver's side).
For the install, remove the top radiator support bolts, loosen the coolant overflow bowl and just move it to a spot out of the way (you don't need to take it out. Tilt the radiator towards the engine and unbolt and remove the intercooler. It's a tight fit, but the new one will slide in. Bolt it up with the same mounting hardware used on the old intercooler, and that's it. Pretty easy.

@peixinho5927 I know what it takes to put a normal 6.0 IC in a 7.3. You forgot to add that if it's an auto trans, you have to move the trans cooler or do the 6.0 cooler too

Charlie, your videos and presentation skills are top notch! One request: can y’all PLEASE make a made in USA oil cooler for the 6.0? All USA made Motorcraft stock is finished. Very low quality is all we have now. Not good for 6.0’s.

If you noticed the intake temp at the filter is 10 degrees hotter for the stock intercooler than for the kc option(94 bs 84). But IAT2 the temps were 125 for stock and 119 for the kc. So that means that the KC air temp went up 35 and the stock went up 31. On the 1 min run stock went from 112 to 130. So 18 degree rise vs. 84 to 106 so 22 degree rise. Heat soak happens. But they didn’t give actual temps on that. But they said stock pull hot air from engine bay and theirs doesn’t. Well the fact is if they have the stock pulling engine bay air and not theirs then they have done that to skew the numbers. You should never pull engine bay air into the filter. Also they mount the exact same way. Location bolts and boots. Granted they may have more efficient air flow through the intercooler and that will definitely help. I would upgrade to theirs if I was in the market just for the welded aluminum end tanks and the flow. But their video is misleading to an extent. Still a great product but in my personal opinion not worth the money if a new one isn’t needed at the moment. Still would 100% recommend their turbos.

Are the early 6.0s i/c smaller? I just remember swapping my 03's with an 05's i/c and I had to get bigger boots. It was like going from 3'' to 4'' diameter. IDK if it made any difference in any performance gains or changes in temps. But it definitely eliminated the problem with blowing the driver side boot off.

Nice video! Does Banks happen to outperform this intercooler? Just wonder if the difference might justify the cost.

We have not tested them side by side, but the banks says its 19% larger than stock and the KC is 25% larger. I would feel confident in saying out intercooler will outperform it. Now the banks does also come with a piping kit, so that is neat if you like the color red.

I’ve got a 05 an I’ve been hesitant on upgrading my intercooler only because I’ve been throwing around the idea of making a water to air kit for it an throwing the battery on the drive side like a compound set up. Over all less heat in the front of the radiator an space to increase the main radiator in addition to a new radiator for the water to air intercooler where the oe intercooler was. Less heat over all…. Please make it so I don’t have.

The new 6.7s run a water/air setup and most people agree it has a lot of downsides. Its a lot of extra equipment needed including 2nd radiator, pump, lines, etc. And the benefits don't seem to make it worth it. They also tend to get heat soaked quickly when pulling a long grade and then they are much worse than air to air.

@@peixinho5927 im fully aware on how the scorpion operates, ive installs many piping kits in my time. the secondary coolent is shared between the EGR an intercooler. air to air works fine for highways, my application calls for slow crawling offroad. where ive had my IAT at 238 in the hills of death valley. no air to air will fix that. so nitrous an water to air with an ice box will.
