It would be very nice if he wins an oscar one day but he doesn’t need it. He is one of the biggest stars right now and is making a lot of Money playing IronMan.
He is one of the few stars who remind us to the old days of Hollywood were actors were the ultimate thing.
Right now it’s all about UA-camrs and bloggers so having a huge movie star like Downey Jr making fans scream at the red carpets and people’s going crazy over him portraying IronMan is a biggger deal than the oscars .
Seriously right Now The MTV awards, Teen Choice and people’s choice have more weight than any oscars, these are awards that tell us who is relevant and what people like.
And Robert Downey Jr a lot of these awards and he just won the teen choice for Action star and that is the coolest thing right now.

I think one of the reasons RDJ played Stark so well is because both of them start off in a similar mindset. Stark was a self-absorbed partier who had daddy issues; RDJ was a self-absorbed partier who had daddy issues. Maybe it's just me, but I saw RDJs life improving along with the film life of Stark. In short: RDJ related to Stark because he was about to play the character through a time in life that he (The real life man) had already gone through.

Downey's talent level is intermediate at best; his character (or lack of it) speaks volumes.
Downey most likely got his role by gifting alcohol, drugs, and even women to Hollywood execs who are basically afraid to gamble on new people who have proved their talent.
Ronald C Krause Jr you have no grounds or evidence to support your claim. He’s a gifted actor, who should’ve beaten out Al Pacino (that tells you something, although Pacino’s acting in SOAW was great, RDJ was incredible) for an Oscar. It’s popular opinion that he was robbed against one of the best actors of all time. That’s pretty impressive. He can nail a huge range of different roles. The man can act, he turned his life around and is now worth like 300 M. If that’s not a redemption story, I don’t know what is. Honestly, you’re just a hater.

See, this is something i've never understood. Ironman seemed synonymous with Cap, Hulk, Batman, Superman, Spiderman, and Xmen (yes i know different franchises). Whenever i thought of hero's those came to mind, though yes, Superman and Batman were always first in mind.
He's one of the few lucky ones that didn't die but instead cleaned up and worked hard to become a top star in the industry.

Another actor, if he is good enough and the movies are produced , written and directed right can play Stark fine and keep the ball rolling when Downey leaves the role.
