*Wow, this is growing on me fast. Love the black grille……much better than the chrome* 👍
Just taken delivery of a 2024 Tundra TRD Sport Crew Max, sized up the tires to 285, drives so smoothly, love it so far, big difference to my 17-year-old FJ., nice review
Very nice!
This is what I'm getting. SR5 4x4 TRD off road...I'll go nuts on my own upgrades like bumpers, winch, lift, wheels, tires, suspension etc.
I'm happy to get 20mpg. Way better than my 2014 tundra and it's 13mpg.
I just hate that the TRD OR package gets you a chrome grill
@T-boe the first lol people have been putting 35s and leveling kits with fantastic results.
People like you make me laugh. Haters hate change.
The SR5 TRD will be my choice as well, but in double cab form because I want the 6.5 bed and additional payload for a camper.
@T-boe the first Unless you have a crystal ball, you have no idea what the reliability of this truck will be. Just wait and see before making foolish claims.
@@dlg5485 I wonder how much difference is the payload between the 6.5 bed crewmax?
This is the best looking version of the truck. I love it
This video is beginning to tell people that they don't need an eye-burning, big-screen television in front of them to drive. You can do it all by yourself!😉
Paint match grill looks just wow ❤❤
They should all be color matched huh. Or blacked out. Not digging the platinum some other trims have
@@davidvelasco1112 yes ✌❤
I don’t need a truck but this SR5 is making me look for excuses to buy one.
You don’t really need an excuse. If you can afford it and want it why not?
Only vehicle you ever really need is a truck 🤷♂️
@@ALLw3rk Unless you have to park in a tight parking garage and the fuel economy is acceptable for daily driving, a truck covers all the functionality a car offers and more. And then if you want and can afford a sporty sedan as a second car, you've covered all your bases.
I wish this car was available here in Japan 😭 Such a cool looking truck! 👌 Nice work Kirk!
RIP the road tax price
I wish the new landcruiser was here in the states my self 😕
@@YoArteeSon technically the tundra and sequoia are basically America’s version of the landcruiser
Isn't it crazy that you can't buy this Toyota in Japan? ))
@@TheWinwin4all yeah, would be cool if they released the next gen Hilux with this front design in Japan 😄 Mini Tundra ahaha
I totally agree from what I’ve seen, the hybrid does not look like it’s a massive improvement. I think I will also go with the Sr5 maybe the platinum.
I'm thinking of the limited because it have most of the same stuff at the platinum
Still a poor showing when fuelly is showing Silverado Hybrid from a decade ago pushing 24 mpg
"...Chevrolet Silverado1500 Hybrid is the only hybrid in the full-size truck segment. Compared with comparable, non-hybrid models, it delivers 33-percent greater city fuel economy and a 23.5-percent improvement in overall fuel economy, all with the capability customers want in full-size truck - including a 6,100-pound (2,767 kg) trailering capacity.
Estimated fuel economy for both 2WD and 4WD models is 20 mpg in the city and 23 on the highway...." GM Media with a larger 300-volt battery and 6.0l V8 circa 2012!
I’ve been all for the TRD Sport from the first unveiling. It looks the best and will be the best value Tundra trim level in my opinion. Give me that Army Green 4x4 Crew Cab w/ 6.5ft bed.
ordered my TRD Sport 3 days ago. Waiting for the email saying it's being built. Sport looks sooooo good.
Thanks for confirming that the screen can be turned off. Not all cars let you do that and it blinds you at night.
It has a nite mode
i was going to get a GMC Denali for my next truck but Im going to get some version of the Tundra. Toyota did this right.
Thanks for the great review. Unfortunately, the production SR5 will not have a sunroof option.
I don't care. I am still going to get the SR5 TRD Sport.
Love the truck! Regarding the tuning knob. once you have your presets set, you probably won't use the tuning knob again. (Or at least very rarely) I haven't used the tuning knob in 5 years in my 4runner😅. Might have been Toyotas thought process👍
I agree! But it's invaluable in new areas or quick scrolling through XM
Don't need it for spotify
What a truck! I don't understand how it doesn't sell more than American trucks ! I really like new Tundra both shape and specs.
Thanks for video
Toyota sells at capacity. They would have to build way more plants in order to make more Tundras.
One of my complaints about the old SR5 was that you couldn’t get a moonroof on it in the US (Canada you could). The packaging is better now and you get those cool aluminum pedals. Definitely agree with you this is an ideal spec for me too especially with the cloth seats.
I am getting this exact truck pretty soon. People think I'm crazy for trading in a Corolla when gas Is expensive, but I can't resist anymore.
Possible unpopular opinion alert* I'm slightly dissapointed they did away with the "non functional" hood scoop. I know Toyota has said it actually helped with aerodynamics previously on the Tacoma and 4Runners but as kirk mentioned, the new body style having 20% better aerodynamics; maybe the hood scoop clashed with this new design in terms of that increase in airflow? Either way, I've never enjoyed that lunar rock color more than I am right now on this new Tundra design and with the painted matching bumper and fender flares this would be my pick! My lease is up at the end of this month so it looks like i'll be extending month to month until the new Tundra becomes available!! Thanks for all the great and enthusiastic videos Kirk!
This is a definite improvement. My late grandfather would approve.
I want one with the smaller screen and no sunroof. The screen is too large. The sunroof let’s in sunlight which is annoying. I’m hoping SR5 will be available with fewer options and a price tag in the low 40s.
Low $40k, you’re looking more at an SR trim with 4x2.
@@driveshift You can get a 21 Tundra SR5 double cab 4x4 for about 44k out the door. The new model will be more expensive, but supply will increase pushing the OTD price lower.
@@user-tb7rn1il3q new generation Tundra stripped down SR5 with 4x4 will not be in the low $40k. That’d be great but very hopeful thinking. Toyota dealerships will not struggle selling these and they will not be selling at MSRP, let alone knock off any dollar amount below MSRP. Your best bet to getting as close to mid $40k with an 2022 SR5 4X4 is putting in a factory order where you can be guaranteed they won’t put extra dealership-installed options and a markup on it.
@@driveshift The current one is around 41, so the new one will be about 44 since more will be standard. They will knock 5-7k off. You have to negotiate. Toyota will be doubling supply of the new model. At some point there will be a glut. I’m patient. I’m not buying a 22. I’ll wait until 23 or 24. In my area the supply of F150s is increasing and they are discounting them 6k without negotiating. Toyota will have to discount the Tundra by January.
Very nice and solid truck, with the sun roof etc...
Thanks Kirk.
Very nice I’m so excited Pacific Northwest over here..!! Congratulations very beautiful ordered SR5 off-road package can’t wait 3 to 4 months wait time! They say good things happens for people who wait!!
hopefully in the future, they will do the same thing for Tacoma just like what they are doing now to Tundra. IMO, I think Tacoma really needs overhauls on Exterior as well as Interior.
I love the look of that truck. I wish the SR5 TRD off-road looked the same. It looks like they are putting the chrome horseshoe shape on the grill of the SR5 TRD off-road. Why?
I know bro
The trd offroad package has always included chrome grill and bumper caps, nothing new
Because Toyota does not putting fancy, flashy, sporty looking chrome on the sport trims. That’s why.
Seeing Kirk excited makes us excited too, lol. Oh man tons of fun coming up. Thanks for sharing!
I'm all set on purchasing a TRD Pro but after seeing all the options the sr5 offers. It'll be a tough choice. I mean a pano roof the imax 14" screen for the basic package.
Game changer !
I agree, I'm just torn on not having ventilated seats available on the SR5. It'll be interesting to see the pricing on these SR5 models as well as the limited.
The pano won't be an option on the SR5. The 14" will supposedly be an option though.
@@volcalstone Wow, that's unfortunate. Do you know if the full sliding rear window is available on the Limited?
@@gcasillas1213 it should be as it's always been there way in the past.
I am still excited for the new Tundra...but the lack of bench seat, less legroom (Double Cab) and SR power "detuned" have me sad. Now if a "detuned" SR gets better MPG, then I might be ok with that...
Lack of bench seat is no go for me.
That's the exact one I ordered I can't waite!
What an amazing truck! A little question for Kirk and everyone else: which Toyota or Lexus product not available in your respective regions do you most wish you could get? For me it has to be the H300 series Toyota Hiace van. Have a wonderful day everyone!😀
Tundra is designed and built in the US and so beautiful!
Great video! You stated something that i did not know. The auto engine off/on feature. Geez, I really don’t like that as I like my engine on at all times. Is there an off button for that?
I sure hope so. I hate auto stop start. I'm sure you will have to disable it each time you get in vehicle like wife's Honda. Would also like an arm rest in rear seat. What's up with that?? No USB for rear. Hopefully that will change???
All these little quirks add up to me not buying one - that’s just time though. My 2020 TRD pro ha sits quirks for sure, but the auto engine thing is a big bugaboo for me. Had one on my f150 and had to turn it off every time you get into the vehicle - kind of annoying.
Finally someone who is doing fair review
Thanks mate! Not sure how I'm more fair than others 😅 but I'll take it
@@KirkKreifels every one else was praising hybrid and v6 turbo and was just saying positive things without hardly any critics at all and not mentioning mpgs etc. I do appreciate when you are just saying what you actually feel which is not necessary what everyone else will feel but at least giving us different perspective view on the truck
Thank you!
Learned my lesson buying an SR5. No Locking rear diff is no fun.
Get the SR5 TRD off road. Locking rear diff there
World best pickup truck 👍
So it looks like a 3mpg increase over the existing V8? Seems like a joke to me. I like all of the changes they made to the chassis and the interior but toyota lost my sale on not offering the V8. I'm betting that the 5.7 with this 10 speed transmission would get similar mpg to this v6.
Honestly this is more exciting than the new LX600
Don't kid yourself that SR5 is going to go for about $50,000
Not happening
There is no chance that this new truck is 20% more aerodynamic of a “box” than the previous model.
Yeah...love the Lunar Rock color!.. If I was buying a new truck though...I'd prefer to have leather seats.
With flicker on the screen, you could try tinted camera lens or use window tinted sheet. Usually it works against shooting direct to LED light.
i want to see it in Voodoo Blue...with the black out option like the TSS SR5s have
Best model so far. I need this exact one. The only change I would want is to have black interior.
Does the TRD package give you the 3" suspension lift advertised from Toyota?
I know the 2022 is going to be great! But, don't start saying it's the best thing since sliced bread. The 2021 that I just bought is as awesome to me as the 2022 will ever be. Just don't start slamming the V8 because a V6 is now the best they have to offer. In some ways the V8 will always be better....that's why I bought one before they were no longer available. The gas mile is the reason Toyota crumbled under the pressure to lose the V8.....well the gas mileage doesn't bother me.
I am contemplating on getting a 2021 V8 or wait for this 2022 V6 TT. Ugh I wish the 2022 has a V8 option.
Kirk you looking on point driving a truck, I looking into one. Chevy an Ram was a choice but Toyota came out swinging hard for me, The SR5 is 🔥 not a lot ✨✨ chrome on it. Loving the body color can’t wait to see this truck in person
Tundra Hybrid pros:
-437hp/583 tq
-good mpg
Tundra Hybrid cons:
-cost of battery(2k+)
-6100 lbs, lower payload
-less storage,
I'll take the gas 389 hp all day.
Also, the non-hybrid will be cheaper! Maybe $2-3k cheaper.
Overall, the new gen still improves from the old. I still want to drive it first before I decide that it’s actually better.
I agree extra money for probably little return on mpg. The hybrid weighs more so it’s not getting that great mpg.
You lost me at the start-stop feature. Maybe I'll save my money to get the MANUAL Integra, and I'll just buy a beater truck.
if I could get the 1974 without moonroof I would that is my first choice. sad the options are so strict
1794
Why u don't want a sunroof? Smh
@@supervong1 two reasons..I never never use it and most importantly all my height is waist and above so it takes away from head not hitting anything
@@supervong1 less payload, not as safe, useless... I can tell you never owned a car with a moonroof, only seen them on UA-cam
@@jackz4149 I have a Kia Soul with panoramic sunroof. Love it…
Hope we finally get these Downunder.
One way to pump up production and sales numbers as the new EV trucks are going to eat Tundra's lunch!
I like the color, but, the pro is the king.
they’ve mentioned the trd sport package with the sport tuned will actually sit lower than stock, but in your videos there doesn’t seem to be much of a difference. Seeing them in person, is there a noticeable difference?
I heard somewhere else it sits 1/2" lower in front so probably not enough to notice. I would rather then make it 1/2" lower in the rear to level it out more
Wish the TRD Sport came with the black headliner and vented seats, but this seems like the one I'm after!
This is probably what I am getting. SR5, Lunar Rock, panoramic moonroof, Hybrid.
SR5 can't come in hybrid
@@KirkKreifels no hybrid then 👍
This SR5 is easily the price of the Limited. The 4x4 with that 14” screen puts it above $55K for sure. I’ve been looking for the same exact packages. So hard to find.
Whose idea was it ever to put chrome.. looks so much better with the chrome delete
because of the headroom being 2 inches lower, the only way to get it back is to lower my level to sr5 to avoid the moonroof and I guess I wont get the jbl either sad about that
How does the jbl affect the cab?
@@Gypsum-pro doesnt just would love to have it in the sr5
Oh yea that’s right. I think limited sport will be the sweet spot
A very nice looking truck! will the 6.5’ box be available with crew cab models?
Yes
This makes me love my V8 2014 limited tundra more and more, I’ll tell you what a paid off truck drives way better than one with payments
Just pay cash for the 2022
Damn look at those gas prices $2.65 you guys are lucky.
Texas for ya.
This is the model I will be getting. Hopefully soon considering the delays. 🤞
What did you like better about the Sport vs the off-road?
Want to know this as well
Dear Toyota: Please make the next gen Tacoma look EXACTLY like a mini-tundra...
Awesome thanks Kirk!!
Why do none of these reviewers talk about how the transmission works?
Thought the SR5 did not get the option for the panoramic roof?
Is there a button to turn off the auto stop/start? Hate that they put that feature in the new truck!
I'm with you, I don't like it either. My wife's 2021 Rav4 has it and I wish I can just permenantly delete that feature.
Can you turn off the start/stop feature
Probably but I'd bet it turns back on when you restart the truck. I'd need a way to bypass permanently. By the way, this feature is not designed to save fuel, it's supposed to decrease emissions while idling at stop lights. Nice idea but very annoying in hot climates since the A/C operates at decreased capacity
@@ultraneight It does save fuel. On most Toyotas you just put it in sport shift transmission mode or don’t push down on the brake pedal. I always downshift to save the brakes so I never get the auto shut off in my Toyotas.
@@user-tb7rn1il3q sounds like some weird workarounds but okay personally I'd rather just have a button that turns it off permanently
@@ultraneight I think a button that remembers the last setting would be great.
I think Toyota will pick up on the favoritism toward the SR5 styling for the pro. Paint match the fender flares and ditch the weird digi-camo. Pro still wins with a few cosmetic tweaks.
You're making a comparison and saying you don't know if the extra price is worth it for the hybrid, but yet you don't know the price of any of it.
You're right. I don't know the hybrid price...but it will be more expensive than the ttv6. Stay tuned for pricing
I need the digital cluster, it’s a must for me
you got to enjoy the devil's backbone! that is classic Texas Hill country
*I was like “didn’t he already review the Sr5” but then remembered he hadn’t driven it yet.*
I love me this SR5 TRD sport
Can’t wait til tuners get their hands on these n eek out more power😁😁
The reason Toyota doesn’t know pricing yet is bc they want to see how the market anticipates it. And honestly thru UA-cam the marketing is strong 💪🏽 on this 1
What if you put the Trd pro grill on the sr5 with 35 inch tires and leather
I think will look the best truck out of all the trims
Or what if just get a real Trd pro lol
How much is the Toyota SR5 TRD sprot 4x4?
I love this truck
Is remote start standard on any tundra trim? Or just for higher trims?
Great video. What year are you in, gas at $2.67 LOL?
old school front is goal but I don't know about that 5ft bed. I need that 6ft bed.
does the twin turbo engine require premium fuel?
I wish Toyota would announce the stupid pricing already lol. I’m interested In a limited trim w the hybrid
Wow was thinking of getting a ram rebel but this one looks very good. 😮💨
I wonder how much weight reduction was really done on the new 2022?
They should name this hulk or stone man
I love this truck!!❣🪶
Does the SPORT have a locking rear diff? Thats the big question
Tundra is not competing against older Tundra's, or is it? It should be better than the one it replaces for $60K. But will it be enough to compete against the Big 3 ?
Kirk! Forget about Tundra, did you hear? All new Integra will have 6 speed manual transmission!🔥
😮
Toyota may regret making the SR5 TRD so good looking because it may cut into the sales of higher trims which don't look as good, in my opinion. Even the TRD Pro looks too busy in my opinion. That said, I suspect even the SR5 will still be a very expensive truck, although my configuration will be a SR5 TRD double cab 6.5 bed, which should be significantly less expensive than the crew cab and have much more payload capacity which I need for a slide-in camper.
Which slide-in camper do you think works with the ‘22? I gave up on that as an update option when I heard the base payload wasn’t near 2,200. May go the new full size Alu-Cabin route
@@dreadkina-babylon2692 I haven't even begun researching that yet, but I'm sure many existing 1/2 ton campers will work just fine, depending on the truck's configuration. There are plenty of campers on the market that are way below the payload of the new Tundra.
@@dlg5485 agreed, a lot depends on cargo and other gear….I could pull off a slide-in camper when hunting, but bringing the wife, driving longer distances…any set ups with awning, couple lithium batteries, water, etc…and quickly you are over a 1450lbs payload. Saw Truck King video where he looked at the door sticker on a SR5 4x4 w/TRD Off-Road pkg and report “1450lbs of payload”. I am pissed because “World Beater” doesn’t mean “last in class” on something as basic as payload on a full sized 1/2 ton truck.
Do u get leather in this trim? Heated and cooled seats? Rear heated seats? Pano roof? Usb ports in the back? Love this trim but if you cant get those for options not getting the truck.
Can you get a heated steering wheel on the SR5?
The USB port might be designed for the passenger? 🤔
At 7:20 you say the engine shuts itself off. This isn't the hybrid, right? Does this mean it's going to stall in traffic/heat more? Can you turn it off when offroading that just sounds stupid
Where have all you guys been for the last 5 years? Auto start stop has been on cars for years now....this is not a new concept but you'd think from the comments people had no idea it existed??
Great job you got me thinking SR5. Sub
That is a awsome truck,
But in this market they will probably be starting the base model SR off at about 50k and all the way up to 75k or more for the TRD pro.
Way to much money for a v6 truck, might as well buy a v6 Tacoma and save a bunch of money 💰
Or wait until 2023 when surplus goes back up from are chip shortage 😆 😆 lol
SR will be around $35k
Im talking about what the dealership gonna sale it for and theses dealership are gonna sock to your wallet while they can,and that's a fact, numbers don't lie!!
There saling Tacoma for 45k right now used.
But i love the look of the lunar rock you are driving and I will definitely consider buying one, if the prices drop I'm 2023 .
Otherwise anybody who buys a vehicle right is gonna pay through the nose 👃
Just get a geo metro if you want to save tons of money very reliable too

Awesome!!! Thanks Kirk!!
For all the Avalon 2019+(both trims) folks that hated the large black grills? Pretty quiet about these massive, in your face, grills on the Tundras...
Men I love this trim
You love it cause it's a pre production model. That pano roof won't make it to the actual production SR5. That 14" screen will be optional as well.
