If we don’t use cash, it will disappear. And then when everything is card/digital only, governments WILL be able to dictate what and how much you can spend your money on.
Example: the ‘climate emergency’ - the government will say your carbon emissions mean your flights are limited. That means you won’t be able to book all your trips because your payments will automatically be declined.
All these sort of things very easy for a controlling government to do, once cash has gone.

I heard some places prefer cash as the banks charge such high fees on card transactions.
And the saving is possibly reflected in the price you pay.
Also so they can misreport their earnings to the government and avoid higher taxes lol

I'd much rather see the small business man benefit from their own hard work, than the filthy rich world leaders and their rich mates benefiting from it.

To be fair, places that only take cash usually have a notice on the door to that effect, the India Gate certainly does! My friends have a bar there and it costs them to have a card machine. Often customers will pop to the ATM to get cash, they don't seem to mind! India Gate's food is lovely too!

The charges for restaurant owners to accept cards is not really an issue when customers are paying for larger items such as meals and drinks. Cash only transactions in establishments that have large turnovers are often used simply as a way of 'cooking' the books. 🤨

Lee, I'm surprised that a man with your travel experience hasn't heard of the Manneken Pis in Brussels - the little boy peeing into the fountain. Obviously that shop has a link to Belgium. A pity that the Steak House was closed - my mouth was watering at the thought of that steak buffet.
There's also the lesser-known Jannekin pis in Brussels, which is hidden up an alley, and depicts a girl squatting to relieve herself :-O The restaurant area just off of the Grand' Place is rammed with different cuisines from all around the world and is well-worth a visit.

When you pay by card, the card company charge the owner, so that means they are losing money, that's why people want cash.

The one that winds me up is card only I always walk out of there and the only ones that win with card only are the banks with the percentage they take off the vendors. Also who gets the tip with card only cash all the way for me

You're get your preferred way to pay Lee when cash is gone and CBDC are forced on to everyone. Then they can switch it off for you if the powers that be don't like you. Choice will certainly be gone then. Currently you have the choice to go elsewhere for now.

I avoid card only places as they are one of the main drivers of removing cash from society. Im always happy to support Cash only business's all the way and will always give cash if thats what they prefer. But I take your point about choice, especially on the EV front!
The banking infrastructure to handle and store cash has diminished after the pandemic. Plus it's risky to keep cash for long periods in high crime areas, and along with it being a general pain in the back side in this day and age. That's why some small businesses have no choice but to go cashless even if it means losing out on some trade.
As for cash-only places ... we all know the motivation for that business model.

We went to Cafe India last week on your recommendation and had a lovely meal - definitely the best in beni for us - lovely people who run it and worth a visit (even whilst the footie was on next door…)

Went to India gate two weeks ago gave the young waiter a big tip cos it was his birthday he then told me the restaurant was owned by an Indian family who employed Pakistani workers and there were cameras all over the place he asked me to be discreet when I gave him his birthday present needless to say not good.❤

Nice how you make perfect strangers feel comfortable and smile and have such a nice conversation. It is a talent few have. I think one of the troubles in finding places that people recommend is that their name for the place is different from the real place.
Used to go on holiday to Belgium in the 70s. Went to Meli Park in Belgium a couple of tim3s and it appeared to be a symbol representing a part of Belgium. They had this large statue at the entrance of a little boy who appeared to wee on people entering the park.
I remember that in the early 1980s, I thought it was hilarious at the time

I visited sherrys bar a couple of months ago. I was shocked when we went to pay they didn’t take card and there was no signs up anywhere.
With me only being a card only person I never have cash with me wherever I go. It would be nice to have a choice like you say.
I probably will not visit sherys bar again due to the fact that it’s cash only as I had to run up the hill to get cash out the machine and get ripped off.
Hi Lee, another good video, this has made me watch some of the episodes of 'Benidorm'. As for premises accepting cash only, I disagree. I am now sadly disabled with severe mobility issues. I remain in my lovely flat with my cat and always order in and pay by debit card. I haven't even seen a pound note with the Kings head on it. Can't go wrong with a Scottish Indian in Benidorm, Tony Singh is a famous Scottish Indian chef.

I went to India gate in April. It was annoying having to walk to the cash point but the food was really nice I would recommend it 👍
We were there a few weeks ago and we love Benidorm. (Since 1976!) We eat at Spanish restaurants and I speak Spanish. AS you are going into the old town there are two of our favourite places to eat LaCana and Monterey as well as Zodiac tapas place or a paella at Los Gemelos (superb) on the seafront. When we have paid with debit card we have got a rate last time there of 1 £ = 1.18 euros ! If anywhere dont take cards then we dont eat there ----- simples ! Lee ----Ureds ! PS Try the ribs at Roman at the end of Levante beach - superb !

The choice of cash and card should be offered , a few times shops have ti close due to " technical issues" so cash could still allow trading, cash should be accepted as should card( if the business covers card fee payments) which yiu don't suffer with cash, if internet goes down cash can still keep the business running. You can't say that for the way most things are going with card transactions, both are the best way
