Hello! Local resident here!! For families there are arcades, boating lake, cinema, tenpin bowling, indoor play centre, donkey rides (!), leisure centre and the steam train (did you miss this??!!); this is apart from the activities laid on at the holiday parks (at the end of the beach, where those lovely people were recommending you walk), though you have to stay there to get in. There is an open top bus that goes along the seafront all the way to the parks during the summer too. Meridian Park (just next to the Signal Box Inn you visited) often has events on throughout the year too - fairs and gigs etc. Cleethorpes is a great family friendly resort and it's cheap too! A good Sunday lunch on the promenade can be had for around £9 (The Punch Bowl), top class fish and chips for around the same price (see Ernie Becketts and Steels in the Market Square). Don't be put off by the negative press peeps! Welcome to Cleethorpes!!

And how did I forget, there are 12 (I think) mini golf courses and a an open air paddling pool (at the back of the boating lake, next to the beach).

We pop down to Tener-Cleef on train from Barton every month or so from across the Humber and i have to say we love it. Can't believe you didn't cover the miniature steam railway literally 50 yards from the signal box, Papas fish and chips on the pier and the land train. You can get a direct train to Liverpool from the station too.

Spent my first day walking around Cleethorpes last week, around the fitties, what a fantastic place, very picturesque, long sandy beach, sand dunes, some world war 2 history and some lovely cafes along the beach front. Take a chance on this little gem and make your own mind up !!

Yeah, as you said it's the same story for all these resorts over the UK obviously the biggest factor was the package holidays in the 70s/80s, but the biggest culprit for the neglect and allowing them to fall into such disrepair is the local councils.. They seem to have plenty of money to invest in hairbrained stupid schemes that will attract no-one whatsoever but ignore the real problems and allow them to fester beyond repair

    Hi, nice video.
I live in Hull, north of the river Humber, and would normally go north to the coast to Nornsea, Bridlington, or Filey. But the other day I took my daughter for a trip to Cleethorpes for the day and was pleasantly surprised how nice it was. Nice clean beach. Good shops and cafes to get food and an ice cream. We had a nice time. Yes some parts are a little run down, but no more than some of the bigger resorts like Bridlington or Scarborough. It's a shame the Pleasure Island, fun park has closed down as that was a big draw for the erea, but other than that I would say it's a nice place to visit and to the south are some lovely nature reserves. Cheers

Yes, I go to Cleethorpes for a day out, it has a train that runs up and down the prom and a park on the Seafront. There is a Leisure Centre and a Cinema as well. If you walk right down to the bottom of the Prom you get to the Sand Dunes and the nature reserve and Marina. You are right a weekend is long enough to do everythiing, unless you just want to sit on the beach. There is a fishing museum at Grimsby which is quite good and also an Grimsby Arena that has West End shows. Some people might be interested to take a look at the Humber bridge which is nearby.

Most seaside resorts are run down . As for cleethorpes, its generally a nice place to visit & good for walking ,plenty of places to eat ,nice people . There are far worse resorts in UK. They lost Pleasure Island a few years ago ,which was really good for bringing folk to the resort & the kids loved it ,unfortunately it was mismanaged & if the council had any ambition ,they would of invested in it or helped it financially? You never headed to the fitties & thorpe park areas ,which are probably the best parts of the resort? It needs funding but it needs to be spent on things that will attract tourists.

Cleethorpes itself is lovely...... Best thing about it is..... Rod Temperton is from there. A very influential song writer. ( look him up )
but is no one going to mention the HORRENDOUS road into Grimsby ?
Its ribbed concrete surface made it the noisiest road in the United Kingdom at that time. In June 2017, sound levels inside a family car travelling along the road were measured at up to 92 decibels

I watched it though and found Trav Vet a decent guy who also asked the locals some decent questions along with trying to have some chit chat which obviously helps the flow. I quite enjoyed it.Totally far from what I was expecting to watch.... Subscribed as well.

Think im correct in saying the train station is the only Terminus one in the UK that is directly onto the seafront, ive lived here all my life,im 55 and seen how the town has declined unfortunately due to mainly the council narrow mindedness, lack of thinking what is needed, when Pleasure island closed it was a massive nail in the coffin for the resort imo, correct though a huge lack of attractions for families with children of varying ages, once they have done the arcades, had a swim/ bowl, cinema basically nothing left to do

We went to Cleethorpes a few years back (Summer just before pandemic) as we had to pick up some scaffold parts from Grimsby and found it ok, the fish and chips were fine and not too expensive and we tried a couple of bars on the front which again reasonable price, not a rip off like some seaside resorts😎

You will enjoy the Armed Forces Weekend fella. It's usually buzzing. If you're up for a longer walk , can take a hike to Tetney Lock. Nice pub there which does awesome food. Used to go down there as kid and back but last time, I was too knackered to walk back. Fortunately, my aunt lives that way. There is a bus but it doesn't run very often. Nowt much in Grimsby but there's a great museum in under the Town Hall and the fishing Heritage museum is worth a look. Cleethorpes (or Meggies as we call it) is much maligned but as that fella said, it's not a bad looking place. Shame, some people want to destroy things though. Steels is one of the most popular Fish ''n' chip places. It's like walking back to the 60s. There are plenty of other choices though. For brekkie, Browns has always been good value for money.

I am a local of this town and it's not the worst town, yes it's poor we the people don't have alot to do.
As we've been bowling, swimming to the cinema, pleasure island, thousands of times. For us there isn't alot to do apart from work and go to the pub at the weekend, but for people visiting then these things would be acceptable.
The problem with the town is the local council, they spend all their money on the armed forces weekend and tourism, the town Grimsby next to cleethorpes suffers because of this, if you come from the beach into town, you will find homelessness, mass unemployment and drugs ruling the scenes. The history of this place is we was a thriving fishing port, which is a long time gone now as we import from Indonesia yet everyone bangs on about us being this great fishing port, our job centre doesn't help us get jobs, it just monitors everyone claims, all jobs are found by the people here and mostly the jobs are out of town or in the next town. What the town needs is more than factory jobs, it needs a better education system and more businesses invested into the area, because we aren't a through fare, we are in a geologically dead ended place. We have a port so anything manufactured here could leave via there. But I don't think it will get better, and I feel the drugs are just rising and rising.
Hope you enjoyed your stay though, don't see the appeal of this town really, a long time past is the vibe.

I back then thought that Seaside railways stations were next to the beach as in Cleethorpes.I left Scunthorpe in the mid to late 1960 and I think the last time i was there was 1966. I now live in Essex (Brentwood) and Southend Victoria station is about a mile from the sea.

It used to be wonderful before it had that dreadful phase of so called improvements! Modernisation can be ruination! I particularly loved an out door lido as a kid. It was a seawater one with stepped seating and on the front. The walks along the prom looked inviting with well kept gardens and little lace curtained cafes sold cuppas with saucers and tables had pretty cloths. The teas on offer were sandwiches such as egg and cress freshly made and assorted cakes and pastries, again hand made. A lot of hard work and thoroughness was the reason it was so special, and the shops behind the front were smart and well stocked, an inviting temptation for shoppers and browsers.

I think these put downs of seaside resorts are preparation for an influx of illegal immigrants.
Then they will go down fast.
Thanks to Kier Starmer, of course.
