Just a heads up. There is some issue with the recently produced Solar Arnies. Ones made in late 2023, and maybe into 2024. Not entirely sure what is wrong with them, but I've heard that they will constantly reset themselves. Something about once they are fully charged and exposed to more sun, it causes some glitch. Hopefully, this will be fixed soon.

I.m always wearing my Arnie to the beach so sand/dirt gets into the bezel, making it tougher to turn (particularly due to the shroud blocking a full grip), but a quick soapy wash & WD40 squirt, its better than new.

I have the FDE version. It looks incredible and takes the place of a GMT with a 2nd time zone. Also it is an analog watch with a perpetual calendar. Not too many of those around with stopwatch, solar, 200M water resistant and dive bezel that lines up with no backplay. I have a 7.25 inch wrist and it fits perfectly on my wrist due to the tuna design. When you put it into a drawer it goes to sleep in the dark and wakes up when light hits it and the hands advance to the correct time. It's the coolest watch ever!

I have both the original Arnie and its original little brother, the “baby Arnie “, which is 38mm and doesn’t have the shroud. The baby is great for my 6.5” wrist. If seiko did a modern baby Arnie, I’d definitely get one. You should have demonstrated the cool feature of the analog hands setting themselves automatically after the digital time is set so the second hand is synced with the digital seconds counter. That feature alone will sell the watch. I’m a little OCD, and hate to see the analog hands and digital second counter out of synch. Great video as always.

Pining after the H558 I owned back in the day, I ended up getting the "Safarnie". I was very hesitant due to the size, but I too was quite pleased with how it wore once I finally pulled the trigger. Anyone worried about the same thing (I have a sub 7" wrist), go ahead and try it. I am also impressed that the module is so close to the original. They easily could have put separate analog/digital controls, but they actually integrated them.

Outstanding bit of kit. Only Seiko are this good. I've had mine a few years now, and I'm so thankful Seiko brought out this reissue. As someone who grew up through the mid 1980's, I kick myself that I didn't have an original as a kid. Besides I was more interested in the G-Shock square back then. This is cracking watch and I whole heartedly recommend grabbing one if you've been remotely tempted.

Bought my first Seiko analog-digital--with a H556 movement, brother to the Arnie's H558--in 1983. Was my daily wearer for 19 years. Have bought 4 more Seiko analog digitals (including the SNJ29, brother to the SNJ25), 1 Casio analog digital, and two Timex Expedition analog-digital watches since then. Some thoughts on the SNJ29, which I've had about 2 1/2 years.
I'm most interested in the functional (tool-watch) aspects of analog-digital watches. Most of the positive aspects of the SNJ025 family were covered in RT's excellent review, so I won't repeat them for the most part.
These SNJ watches still don't have an electronic countdown timers. Seiko has not put such a countdown timer on even one of its Seiko-branded analog-digital watches during the last 40 years. Incredible. Almost as annoying is that the backlight on these SNJ watches doesn't work while the stopwatch is running. Pushing the backlight button while the stopwatch is running stops the stopwatch. Same as the H556 and H558 movements. 40 years and no addressing of this issue.
The lume on my SNJ29 is pretty good, almost as good as that on my Seiko Sumo. However, the red stick portion of the seconds hand is difficult to discern in low light. I suspect that the white stick portion of the SNJ25's second hand is more visible, but not by much. I would very much prefer that Seiko use a second hand identical or similar to that Seiko uses on the Sumo.
Accuracy on my two Seikos with the H023 "world timer"movements and that of my SNJ25 is about 15 seconds fast a month under "normal temperatures." That is within specs. However, my two Timex Expedition analog-digital watches (which cost around $50 dollars apiece), have run around 1-2 seconds fast or slow a month. Wonder why these much less expensive Timexes are so much more accurate--not that it matters all that much.
Alarm chime very weak, considerably weaker than on my regular battery-powered Seiko analog-digitals. Wouldn't count on it to wake me up.
Having both my Seiko H023 movements go wonky within ten years of purchase, I've kept that in mind when purchasing more recently bought analog-digital watches, including my SNJ29.
When doing certain types of work (e.g. axe work, ice scraping/chopping, using a spade when gardening) I prefer wearing an electronic watch over a mechanical. No question that my Seiko analog-digitals (as well as my G Shocks) are/have been more sturdily built (and have greater water resistance, when screwed down) than my Timex Expeditions. But, for wear around the house or yard (when not sporting a mechanical watch), I generally prefer wearing my Expeditions over the Seiko analog-digitals.

@ 5:40 - pretty sure the internal chapter ring is the solar cell. I received mine with a charge at 8 of 10, from the box (which unless it was stored open, was stored 2 years based on serial # date). Since then, it has never been below a 10, no matter how little I use it. It has an energy saving feature that only keeps the internal clock on, when not in direct light for periods of time. As I said, an apocalypse watch!

I always thought they would be ridiculously oversized but it honestly didn’t look out of place on your wrist. It looked great on that carbon fiber/red lined strap. Very unassuming on its tan rubber strap. Bold baton dial markers. After a year, I recently put it on a black carbon-fiber O-like strap & it is completely transformed! It feels like wearing a brand new all-black watch - the tan accents blending in so subtle, its a sight to behold. Two styles in one! If its one watch to take to the apocalypse, its this on

Love the style but its large size limits it to larger wrists unlike some of the Gshocks that still work on smaller wrists. Also lack of atomic time or BT, along with other functions (ABC) found on most outdoor Casios make it a bit obsolete. But if you don't want or need those functions and your wrist is 7+ inches it's a great watch. Wish I could wear it but, as Arnie would say, I have girly-man wrists!

Interested in a solar quartz Seiko wearable, affordable Diver's 200M with eye catching looks, and good QA. As a Casio G-Shock, ProTrek and Citizen Eco-Drive fan it is exciting to see a Seiko Diver with solar, power meter, power save, backlight, stopwatch, multiple time zones, perpetual calendar, features. Even if it doesn't have a CDT, multiband, bluetooth, ABC, shock resistance or other features a Casio would offer in this price range. The Ani-Digi face is little small but I like the chapter rings and it looks and its exciting to see Seiko start to offer divers with more features and their unique diver design. You dont want a saphire crystal on a dive watch that you may be relying on underwater. A hardlex crystal will scratch and ding, but not shatter, remaining functional. A saphire crystal is much harder, but if it takes a knock and shatters the watch is no longer functional and your dive is not being timed. Horses for courses. (and before you say nobody dives with them anymore.... I do in fact scuba dive with my seikos all the time)

Cool suburbanites Hollywood gimick watch. Otherwise, it's a major safety hazard for anyone doing real manual work. Might as well strap a grappling hook on your wrist. Military, Fire, Search and Rescue, diving, climbing, rope-work, mechanics, etc. Most people who wear this watch probably don't need to clean under their fingernails. Cheers.

These have a design flaw anytime you take them out in direct sunlight they reset themselves mine's going in the Seiko repair

This one never had that issue, but I've been hearing this more and more. Sounds like it's some odd flaw from those made in late 2023. Still trying to sort through it and figure out if anyone knows exactly whats going on.

I just got one, the digital time doesn’t synchronize with the analog , they don’t match, i tried the hard reset but didn’t work. any idea how to fix it??

    • @RelativeTime
      @RelativeTime  8 місяців тому

When you change the time digitally, does the hands change at all? Like if you adjust it 10 minutes forward, do they move 10 minutes forward? Or they just don't move at all?
If they do adjust but they're not synced up, could be that the hands are misaligned. And I think there's a way to reset that specifically.

It won't flop because Seikophiles will buy anything that the company puts. And if the watch has been in a movie, they will be standing in. Frankly, it just not my cup of tea. You sell yours ASAP. No offense but it dwarfed your wrist.

I used this watch just for walks and it only last it a year and half, very disappointed. There is a plastic under the display, it came off and now the second hand can’t rotate. Beautiful watch but not tough though
