I work in psychiatry, so this is all too familiar for me. Every addict has an enabler in the background, and anyone that tries to make them take responsibility for their own choices is automatically the villain to them. The mom and sister are just delusional.

People lie all the time. And the mother very openly admitted that her daughter has multiple problems. But like any parent with a child they love, it's easier for her to assign responsibility and guilt to someone else. It's impossible to tell reliably, where drug abuse ends and mental illness begins. Also, both feed upon the other. Either way, it's sad what opioids have done to a great country and how hard it is to get mental health help. Having said that, I don't think there's any other choice here but get a restraining order for the wife.

Just in case anyone’s wondering, you don’t have to have a prescription to buy a glucose monitor. They’re legitimately in the isles at any pharmacy. As a type 1 diabetic it’s sucks if you have to pay out of pocket for it, but you can. With insurance they’ll cover it and your strips etc.
Maybe you do in their city? Or their Walgreens has a problem with thieves?
I think you only need a prescription for monitors that stay on for weeks - like the Libre or Dexcom. But not the hand held ones that use test strips.

I suspect the husband is accumulating the evidence to have her permanently removed. He has remained in the house to maintain his right of ownership and residency, and by getting his kids back home they have a protective order against their mother and so she cannot return (likely), especially if he gets a protective order as well. He will then have the family home, which he pays for, for himself and the children.

Lots of hearsay from mama and sister. The cops knew it too. Why can’t mom and/or sis just take her when she needs things from the store? If the husband has cameras set up all through the house, that’s a man who is concerned for his and his children’s safety. The trauma those children are experiencing is extremely concerning.

Body cameras are so important. I feel guilty sometimes watching the footage (like a fly on the wall during something that should be…private?) but we are able to see so much of the manipulation tactics - especially when the family starts getting involved. Good on that man for calling the sheriffs department. From what we saw here, I believe they handled everything professionally and were patient and polite.

American legal system moment
If he has custody he's responsible for them. If she has them against his will he's supposed to report them as kidnapped. The school only knows that they aren't coming and that he is the parent. Generally they would have investigated and told him he needs to take steps. Both parents if they both have custody. If the kids just keep my showing up, yes they may press charges. You can't just say "well I don't have them, grandma took them" or everyone who didn't want to send their kids to school would just use that. They can't charge grandma if she doesn't have custody over them. But if he goes to court and presents evidence of what's going on they will probably dismiss the case. If he does something to resolve it. Which is usually going to court and getting a writ to get your kids back since you have to legal custody.
And unless whoever has the kids has legal rights, they can't enroll them in school.

She was afraid of him hurting her, and wanted him to stay away from her, so she got rid of the security cameras, took the locks off the doors, and attacked and jumped on top of his car when he tried to leave to try to force him to drive her somewhere. Riiiiiight…..

Reopen the asylums. Protect everyone else who does not behave like this. Perhaps only then at that point can we safely turn our attention to trying to fix the unfixable.
The only help that's suitable is an asylum. Maybe he is partially responsible, maybe he enabled her drug addictions earlier after her surgery or whatsever it was because he still loved her. But she has some very serious issues that go well beyond simple drug use. ......... The only thing that's interesting is the grandmother having the kids; but then it may be more for their protection from the nutcase mother than anything.
