You should take a look at the Oath of the Watchers Paladin. They're the Fantasy Men in Black and get some fun abilities like Counterspell, Moonbeam and the ability to give their teammates advantage on Int, Wis and Cha saves.
My only issue with this class, they literally lack any means to travel to or from the feywilds. A once a day solo planeshift or locate nearest portal to the feywilds would have really complimented this class.
It'd be the kinda class that I as DM would give the player either advantage on checks to find/identify a fey crossing, or just know it entirely so that the fey wanderer could find ways to the fey wild that feel more rangery and naturally part of the fey wild than just snapping your fingers and doing a generic planehop
@@CassapphicAgreed, Planeshift wouldn't be nearly as fitting as being able to locate or knowing where the nearest portal to the Feywild. Planeshift is kinda overpowered, with how you can arrive literally anywhere you target in the entire plane.
The Fey Wanderer is one of the few characters I actually consider taking Two-Weapon Fighting with. Between Favored Foe and Dreadful Strikes, you're doing an additional 1d4 on both of your attacks right out the gate.
favored foe AND dreadful strikes is only once per turn per target if you attack two different people (3 with TWF and extra attack) at level 5, you can deal dreadful strikes more than once but favored foe is locked to one character and is once per turn you could blow through the uses and proc it on every enemy (you can do this with steel wind strike for added 1d6 psychic +1d8 force ontop of the 5d8 force damage) but it is a costly expense
So glad you finally got to cover this one, and enjoyed it. The Miyazaki influence is definitely what hit me when I read it. Since you mentioned the wisdom thing, I've got to note one alternate idea to the archery method. Archery is probably better overall, but if someone is going that WIS as primary stat? They could also take Druidic Warrior, grab Shillelagh and Magic Stone, and you've got magic bludgeoning damage to go with that nice psychic damage bonus. Yes, you can throw rocks at a dragon until it dies.
And become a single stat dependant build, tanking, charming and survivalist, have great dc for spells and good attack bonus, can combine a shield and medium armor or even take 1 lv into some cleric calss and get subclass w heavy armor just for the ac, or take some levels into the lost brother of the feywanderer, the astral self monk, now you can unnarmed attack with wisdom, use wisdom for AC and can use wisdom for str checks Both are fun melee builds and there is a kobold with packtactics getting angrier for that 😂😅
Love this subclass, it'd be great to see the swarm keeper in round 4 too! Another wizard like scribe, abjuration, graviturgy or chronurgy would be fun too.
My longest running character is a 14th level Tabaxi Fey Wanderer, it's a fun skirmisher with boots of speed, cloak of Displacement and a belt of hill giant's strength. How she became one? She ate a butterfly. That was also a fey prince. Look I don't make the rules, I gave the eat a butterfly idea and the DM sprinted with it. My party's full of dex gremlins so sadly not the best dps or anything but she's the closest to a sane and cool headed leader the party has when you have an almost murderhobo echo knight fighter with a 3e level AC, a red dragon sorlock teenager level elf who's actually insane, a 17 year old Tiefling life cleric who's gotten worldweary way too early and an elf Mercy Monk with a +15 to hit. Yeah this game is something alright and tbh we're all here for it.
Round 4; Scribes Wizard ('realistically' spell books would be a regular wizards great vulnerability). And the Whispers Bard, a scary class. If multiclassing with a Warlock ... really scary.
Tireless shaking off of exhaustion would be nice IRL, but being able to Trance would be life changing. Only needing 4 hours rest a day, and it being meditation instead of sleep! Is there insomnia for meditation?
I played one and took the druid cantrip fighting style for shillelagh and just pumped wisdom. He fought with a wooden training sword and fucked people up, it was dope
One of my favorite ever characters I've ever played was a Firbolg Fey Wanderer Ranger. He was a big Wise fella that was just a lovable guy. He also was Wisdom instead of Dexterity focused as Tashas just dropped so Druidic Was now a cannon Fighting style. Sheleighlah and Magic Stone were his go-to cantrips. For those who are wondering Level 1 stats 17 wis 15 Con 13 Dexterity 12 Charisma 10 strength 8 intelegence I took resillient con, bumped both my wisdom and dexterity, then my wisdom up to 20 by 12th level. All the while hitting things with sticks and stones. I hear allegedly, it breaks bones, Yet Words can compell people to do things.
I'd argue it's been good throughout, and Tasha's adds utility if you don't want damage. But even at early levels, a Giant Poisonous Snake deals an average of 20 damage per hit on a failed save, or 12 on a success, we can average it to 16. Which other Ranger subclass can deal 16 damage in one hit at level 3? Then you have flying companions, or a spider that can le you spiderclimb by riding it, a pteranodon that lets you fly with 0 opportunity attacks against you, the list goes on. People call PHB BM bad because they never read the Monster Manual, or rules for Mounted combat, rules for Barding, etc.@@Cassapphic
Beguiling Twist is even better. The effect activates whenever a CREATURE within 120ft succeeds on a saving throw. So even if an enemy succeeds his first saving throw against one of these effects, the Fey Wanderer can just take that effect and throw it on another enemy. And while the Ranger spelllist isn't the best to get a frightend condition on the field, there is some neat synergie with the Conquest Paladin.
Fey Wanderers get Charm Person at third level, which is a great way to get Beguiling Twist going without any outside help: Cast Charm Person in combat. The charmed condition during combat isn't the strongest and the target has advantage on the saving throw - because you're fighting them - so is likely to succeed. However, that's exactly what we want. After the initial target passes their save, we use Beguiling Twist to attempt to frighten another target. I often see online discussions of Beguiling Twist overlook that Fey Wanderers can get a charmed->frightened chain going on their own without needing to to rely on other party members to do a frightened->frightened chain.
Oh, definitly. You can get the chain going all by yourself. I mostly pointed out the synergie with the conquest paladin because that class really wants enemies to have that condition while also empowering the effect.
A multiclass with undead warlock has great synergies as well, with the fearing affects and also with CHR investment for higher face skills since you add your WIS mod in addition to CHR mod and proficiency to those skills.
My votes for what subclasses i would like to see in round 4. In order of favorite class. Wildfire Druid - need to see you rage at more druid things hehe Beast Barbarian - i would like to rage with more teeth please Oathbreaker Paladin - to keep the evil theme coming Great Old One Warlock - cause Cthulhu must be pleased
I LOVE the Fey Wanderer! It's one of my favorite subclasses. However I will say, my only complaint about the class is the "crazy fey magic" not being crazy enough. It's a complete, utter, absolute missed opportunity to incorporate Wild Magic. Especially when you consider how it doesn't have to be exactly like the Wild Magic Sorcerer - not like they haven't retooled it for other classes like the Wild Magic Barbarian before. I NEED a Fey Wanderer that has its own form of Wild Magic... maybe as an optional feature?
One of my favorite subclasses in the game. Thank you for doing this one. MAYBE OATH OF THE ANCIENTS NEXT??? Give me all the nature/fey love, lol. So glad I found your channel. Really fun way to break down the subclasses.
My favourite ranger and a characteristically excellent video. Now. Could you tell us what you know about the fathomless warlock? It's so thematic and the battlefield control is so cool.
Makes me think I should give this subclass a shot! As for what next, I remain stalwart in my support for the Banneret Fighter subclass! No one else will try to defend those bland boys, I might as well.
Man, I remember 3.5e, when animal companion was something every Ranger just got for free and it was considered OP. How the mighty have fallen. (Honestly, it was more OP for druids, who also always had an animal companion, and a better one than a ranger!)
Rangers animal companions were -4 their level in 3.5 and Druids was equal if I am remembering correctly. I took the alternative choice from PHB 2 in 3.5 for my ranger. I didn't want the book work.
I am a big fan of your video but I just realized how much work it must take to put in all those clips and pictures. Its worth the time though, it makes the videos much more enjoyable 💪💪💪.
On of my Fav Sub for "Sword N board!" if you can Snag Shillelagh or Dueling FS. You can be a High Efficient Minion controller with you roll PAM + Shillelagh + Dreadful Strikes because it can trigger up to 3 times if you hit diferente targets each strike!
My fav ranger, is a single stat dependant, you can multiclass cleric for spells and heavy armor or monk astralself for nice bonus actions, with shillelag as a cantrip you are actually one stat dependant
One of my players is a Fey Wanderer/ Druid multiclass and its so much fun trying to get her and the party into Feywild shenanigans. One player fell for the "can you hold this for me" and now is permanently stuck with a flower crown she cant let go of
Would love to see you cover the Mastermind Rogue. In combat... suboptimal at best. However, quite possibly the best RP subclass in the game! (in my humble opinion)
I have a fey wanderer/Archery warlock build I wanna play. They unknowingly at first guard a fey gate, and spent a lot of time swimming in a fey spring, and end up catching the eye of a minor royal/princess of the court. She likes them and they end up making a pact. It's a fey wanderer 17/warlock 3 build taking pact of the chain. So he constantly has a fairy companion watching over him.
I would love to see a video on the Horizon Walker Ranger a very cool Ranger subclass that is basically Guardian of the Multiverse and it gets a lot of abilities and spells to help with that including their signature ability they get at Lv. 3 Planar Warrior which according to the lore allows them to augment their weapon attacks with the power of the Multiverse itself gameplay wise it allows you to add an additional D8 of Force Damage every time you land a hit, with the number of D8 you add to the additional Force Damage going up to 2D8 at level 11.
Lv. 11 gives us access to "fey reinforcements" - gotta call it now: missed opportunity to call that feature "rein-Fey-rcements". Gotta keep watching now. (Also, PLS do Horizon walker 🥺)

Hahahahah it finally got its video after being in the reject pile in all the votes

You should do a samurai fighter
Scout Rouge next?
Yes, try mixing that with monk, way of mercy
Circle of Wildfire Druid please. Such a fun and interesting idea of both destruction and support as a Druid.
That was fun. Thank you. 😃
Finally!

... So just the baba yaga
I’m hoping we get horizon walker soon, I’ve been really enjoying it in my current campaign.
I'd like to see the Oath of the Ancients paladin, it's my favourite subclass in the game.
Based YMBA playing peak Fire Emblem on his spare time ❤
I might I want to be a film Wonder for my next character sounds pretty funny
Also because of the fey theme maybe college of glamour I just want to know what the majesty looks like
You should do tempest cleric, stormy boys and dish out tons of lighting or thunder damage

Patiently waiting for College of Eloquence Bard
round 4: the bard of your nightmare, the whisper college
This is a surprisingly fun class. Which makes Beast Master look all the worse.
I mean the hunter subclass makes the default beast master terrible
We did it boys they’re finally known
It finally happened
So _Buckets the Drummer_ came from the Fey Wild?
That actually makes sense.....
Still looking for that Horizon Walker Ranger
would love to see rune knight next round
Pick up druidic warrior to get shillelagh and max out your wisdom and we're gaming
This is super cool but am I the only one who thought I was voting for the fey pact Warlock
Finally! The true dragon seducer! (cany can give you persuasion expertise)
Nice
Barbarian Muscle wizard!!!!
I wonder what you have to say about beast master ranger
True story: I soloed the entire Wild Beyond the Witchlight adventure by playing a forest gnome fey wandering Ranger.
