  • Do you know how to identify 1967-1972 Chevy / GMC Truck Grilles? If not, I am glad you are here. GM offered at least 10 grilles for these trucks over this 6 year body style. In this video, I will show you how to ID each of the grilles by year and make. If you are going for a year specific build, you need to ensure you buy the right grille for your truck. Buying used can save you a lot of money, but make sure you buy the right one!

    Grill is always a personal preference. There is no right or wrong, only what you yourself like. To me, the egg crate grills modernize the trucks too much towards the subsequent square bodies. I prefer the 67-68 and 69-70 grills.

    I appreciate the video. I have a question regarding more detail of the black stripe on the 71-72 gmc version. Do you know if the black stripe was included on all trim levels of gmc 71-72 or specific trim levels. And I always thought the black stripe was specific to 72 only. I have had several gmc 70-72 over the years. But they’re so far removed from being new and original that I couldn’t tell what was “year correct”. In example I recently learned the gmc tailgate I still have off my first truck. A 1971 gmc. Is actually an original from 1967-68 (small lettered gmc)
    Just curious more detail on that 71-72 gmc if there is any more detail to the options

    • @C10TruckNerd
      @C10TruckNerd  10 місяців тому +1

      Thanks for the support. The stripe was included on all 71-72s. Most of them wear off over the years. I have a 71 1500 and it has it as well. Not to say that GM didn’t have some left over 69-70 grilles that ended up in 71s. As for the tailgate, you are correct. 67-68 were the small letters. They are actually year specific as well. I have a tailgate video I need to make soon and will go through all the details on them.

    • @C10TruckNerd
      @C10TruckNerd  Рік тому

      No, they all won’t interchange. Yours will work out with minor changes. 67 and 68 grilles can swap because the hoods and fenders were the same. You might be able to get away with using the GMC hood latch since it’s offset, but not for sure. If not you will need a Chevy hood latch and 67-68 grille support in the middle that the hood latch mounts to. You will also have a dual headlight core support in the gmc. You might have to pop off the inner headlight buckets for clearance or swap to a Chevy core support. I would remove the buckets and save money. The rest of the years would almost need a front clip swap between 67-68 to 69-72 and even Chevy to GMC. Let me know if that didn’t make sense.

    '68 GMC or '69-'70 Chevy

    Are the 1972 GMC and the 1972 Chevy grills interchangeable from GMC over to Chevy, swap?

    • @C10TruckNerd
      @C10TruckNerd  2 роки тому

      They are not. 68-72 GMC Fenders were the same as 68 Chevy. GMC grilles can fit any year of GMC with a few modifications. You can swap fenders and make it work as well, but then you run into radiator support differences since GMCs had 4 headlights. I hope that makes sense. Feel free to ask more questions if that didn’t clear things up.

      I don't think you are right.
      67 and 68 gmc same
      69 to 72 same.
      Does not intererchange with chevy

    But can you swap a 69 to a 68 truck or are the fenders different and does it require the other hood

    • @C10TruckNerd
      @C10TruckNerd  2 роки тому

      They are both different. 67-68 fenders, hoods and radiator supports were interchangeable but won’t work with 69-72. 69-72 were the same other than the 69-70 had holes in the face of the hood for the bow tie or GMC emblems. GMC fenders were different from Chevy. 67s were the same but a GMC used the same fenders from 68-72. Those fenders were the same as a 68 Chevy. Hope that’s not too confusing!!

    69-70 grille should have black painted steel headlight bezels. Yours had 71-72 bezels. Incorrect.

      @C10TruckNerd  Рік тому

      Good catch! I would mostly agree. They should have black but I have seen lots of originals that have aluminum. Guys have told me that there were a several manufacturers for the grilles and many were made or assembled differently. The black stripe on the center bar stops at the turn signals, others go all the way to the bezels. I enjoy learning all the small differences these trucks have. Thanks for sharing and for watching!

      @@C10TruckNerd original 69-70 grilles that left the assembly plant on a truck, had the horizontal lines go all the way to the headlight bezels. Original GM replacement grilles stopped short.
      All the headlight bezels for 69-70 should be steel and painted black.
      A lot could be changed on these trucks in the last 40+ years.

    They are all so close in appearance that I think it would help if maybe as you talked about the grill and then made references to the other ones that you would put the picture of that other girl that you’re talking about so that way we could compare in life Time or at least as you’re teaching
