  • Do you know how to identify what year of doors are on your 1967-1972 Chevy or GMC truck? If not, I’m glad you are here! As you have seen from my previous videos, GM made a lot of changes to their parts over this 6 year body style. The doors were no exception. I made this video to help you identify the doors, their differences and what to look if you are buying used. If you are going for a year specific build, you need to ensure that you buy the correct doors for your truck.

    The early 67 had the glass,with the 60-6 wing vent latch later 67s had the 68-72 latch,those doors had a problem with hard use where the upper inside metal panel below the glass had a tendency to split,the 67- 72 brand X had far better fitting doors,were alot easier to change out window regulators ,glass wing vents,and door glasses,and were not plaged with the rattles that the 67-72 GM trucks had.

      I’m guessing they finally figured it out in 72 and put that reinforcement screw at the top of the door to stiffen it up. It’s wild to see how many subtle changes happened over the years.

    Also, if you have a 1967 model the exterior door handles mount slightly different. The bolts go straight into the handle where later years they were angled. Reproduction outer handles will say 67-72 but on a 67 it requires a bit of modification.

      Awesome! Thanks for commenting! I have noticed many aftermarket parts are not labeled year specific like they should. That would save a lot of headaches when we can't figure out why a part won't fit.

    Also the door latch control is different. The shaft is shorter on the 67. Maybe? because the extra padding and vinyl options on the 68 & up. I'm hoping to take up the slack with the felt washer and door grommets etc. Maybe I'll Frankenstein the two if that doesn't work.

    Excellent video!!! I am curious, is there a difference On the bottom part of the inner door on a 72 from a 67-71 ? I bought a repair bottom panel and that lip that follows the bottom door inner edge doesn’t match or even begin to line up with the factory lip. I know aftermarket panels are not close to fitting the original panel, but its way different. Thank you!

    • @ItsTheChad71
      @ItsTheChad71  Рік тому

      I don’t know if any differences over the years. You are correct on the aftermarket stuff. I have bought different rockers and corners from different companies that weren’t even close. I like using original metal for patches when I can. Doors are getting hard to find something with good bottoms.

    I am converting my 1972 doors to electric windows, Where do you install the switch?
    Some have told me to change the panels to the 1970 model with flatter door handle and window crank Holes., If I do change the panels to the 1970, how do I mount the panels to the 72 Door There are now screw holes for the bottom panel screws. On the 72 it is held on with the nylon clips

    • @ItsTheChad71
      @ItsTheChad71  7 місяців тому

      The only one I have done, we recovered the plastic 72 door panels and put the switches where the crank used to be. If not, you can use machine screws and nuts with the older metal panels and the top door panel retainer at the top. I’ve got some pics of one or check out my video of my buddies truck we did a video on and you can see his.

    Hello, just wondering if you have any research on the 1967 model power steering. I'm told that some components in the 67 were one year only use and are not necessarily reproduced. Specifically the power steering box and pump. Any info would be appreciated.

    • @ItsTheChad71
      @ItsTheChad71  2 роки тому +1

      You are correct. 67 used more like a ram style assist vs the traditional pump. The frame on a 67 is straight on the drivers side since it wasn't equipped with the traditional pump. 68 and up have a small indent or dimple in the frame for the pump to fit into. You can still use 68 and up PS pumps though. Some need some shims and others don't. If you watch my 1967 year only video, you can see what I'm talking about a little better. I hope this helps answer your questions.

    • @ItsTheChad71
      @ItsTheChad71  2 роки тому +2

      I have had several differences in the same year on the 67-72s. Many times it depended on when it was built in the year. Maybe some of the doors were carried over from 71. Good question!

  • @triplenickel9938

    Are the internal regulators different for 72 as well? Due to the different door panels?

    • @ItsTheChad71
      @ItsTheChad71  2 роки тому +3

      Yes they are. The shaft on the window crank and door handle mechanism is longer to stick through the new deeper solid door panels. Great question!

  • @joewahrerMotorcycleMan
    @joewahrerMotorcycleMan 2 роки тому +2

    Hi Chad, I'm working on a 69' Chevrolet Panel truck. The drivers door is squared on the top left corner as opposed to rounded on the trucks. The surburban looks similar in the aftermarket catalogs, do you know if they are the same? LMC said they have no information one way or another. I just bolted up a 1972 TRUCK door for fun and it all lined up nice other than the rounded right hand corner, have you ever seen a window frame changed on a door? The frame just appears spot welded.

    • @ItsTheChad71
      @ItsTheChad71  2 роки тому

      I am mainly a truck guy, but I believe the subs and panels used the same doors. I haven’t seen a frame changed but sure it can be done.

    So will 72 doors fit a 70? If so all internals would have to be ordered 72 specifically?

    • @ItsTheChad71
      @ItsTheChad71  4 місяці тому

      A 72 has longer internal door handle and window cranks mechanisms sticking out to fit over the deeper plastic door panels that are year specific. The only other difference is the support screw under the wing window in a 72. So if you wanted to switch 72 doors to a 70 style with the thin metal door panels, you would need 67-71 internals. You could also just have a little extra space between and not change anything. Hope that made sense.

  • @8luggarage
    @8luggarage Рік тому +1

    Will the metal interior door panel from a 69 fit onto a 72 door? The 72 interior plastic door panel never realy impressed me as much

    • @ItsTheChad71
      @ItsTheChad71  Рік тому +1

      Yes it will, although the window crank and door handle mechanism sticks out of the door further to accommodate the thicker plastic panel.

    Stop telling people those doors aren't salvageable, I have limited experience and I know for a fact I could fix them. Some rudimentary welding and pattern making would 100 percent save them
