I made my vent box outer panel removable so I could clean it and recoat it. I also coated the entire vent area with bedliner and made a large 1.5 inch drain with a hose so water and dirt can drain out past the fender
My pops left me his 71 when he passed 10 years ago. And I'll be dipped I'm still learning new stuff on these old trucks ! I watched the video then had to go see like huh how have I never seen these 🤣. I was able to clean what junk and gotten inside with your tips. Much appreciated!
I think it’s great he left the truck to you. It’s the memories and stories that come with these trucks that I appreciate. Plus 71 is my favorite year! I I enjoy helping the next guy out by saving them some time and headaches from what I have learned. Hopefully cleaning the kick panels out will keep them from rising so fast. I appreciate you sharing and for watching. Enjoy that 71!
I'm about to get a 67 with small back window. I had this same truck 30 years ago and I didn't know about these vents . I know now thanks to you, awesome video thanks for sharing it does help.
While you have that off, here's a tip for when you want to put your fender badges on without having to remove your fender. After I got my 67 back from paint, I took a small drill bit and put pilot holes into that air pocket thru the existing badge holes in the fender. From the inside, I used a bit big enough to put a 3/8, 5/16? socket thru. Put my badges on, then used those plastic hole plugs from O'Reilly's with RTV to prevent rusting.
Man! Sure glad I found your video. So far the only one that goes into detail about this situation. Thank you! I'm also interested in the windshield wiper juice and hose assembly. By the way... any have a chrome windshield wiper arm for sale? 1969 C-10 Suburban (Passenger Side). Thanks again y'all!
Awesome! Glad to help. I will get the wiper idea on the list. I don’t have any original wiper arm stuff right now. Sorry. Thanks for reaching out and for watching!
An old GMC mechanic told me that 67, 68 vents are larger than 69 to 72 vents. About 1/8” taller and 1/8” wider. I think that he is correct, because I tried putting 70 vents in to our 68. The 70 vents did not cover as much area as the 68 vents. Hello from north east Montana. 10 miles from the Canadian border.
Well good to hear from some friends from the north! I hadn’t heard any vent differences, but nothing would surprise me with these trucks. I know the replacements are sold as 67-72. I have some 69 and 71 vents I can try in our 68 GMC. I appreciate you reaching out and for watching!
Great information , Thank you !! You mentioned the actuators in this video. My 72 has 3 vacuum lines coming off of the a/c/ heater control unit and I'm trying to find a diagram or video that talks about how these actuator vacuum lines all connect. can you help?? I can only find a diagram for a '71 that only has 2. Thanks in advance .
You might pull the glove box liner and see if you got some sneaky rust up there. The seal around the antenna line might be rotten allowing water in as well.
One of the problems with this cab and wind noise is that there aren't vents to let the air OUT of the cab. This over pressurizes the cab and forces air to leak out through the door seals and wing windows giving you all that leaky wind noise as speed increases. The later trucks came with a small vent on the driver's side door jam, but this is still not enough to properly vent the cab at road speed.
Hey Chad does the cowl mesh cover you mentioned get clogged up with debris? I know with gutters on a house I have an easier time cleaning the gutter out versus cleaning off gutter guards. Also, are you going to the c10 show July 16th in Independence? I entered my 71 K10. I'm going to see if I can win a trophy for truck that needs the most work! ;)
Awesome James! Can’t win if you don’t try! The screens can get clogged. I had an elm that I used to park under and the little seeds would land on top of it but didn’t get inside. I was able to wash them off and down the fenders. Pine needles and small stuff could still get through if they land vertical.
Windshield washer pump and hose video please!!!!!! Or how to make sure the garage cluster works correctly. My temp and brake light in my gas gauge don’t light up
Sorry for the slow reply Tom. Your comment went to review and I didn’t see it until now. You can loosen the actuator or give the flap a manual turn and depress the spring loaded rod.
Thanks for the videos, Chad. They’ve come in handy on my 68. I appreciate you doing this…
Absolutely! I always enjoy helping the next guy. Thanks for watching!
Very clear instructions and good advice. Thanks for sharing this.

What a great idea! I’m sure that helps the fenders from rusting so fast as well. How do you attach them back on?
@@C10TruckNerd rivnuts. I rtvd behind the joint so it wouldn't leak
Good deal. Thanks for letting us know!
Do you have pictures of that on the forum or online somewhere we can see?
That’s A Great Idea 👍🏻

Informative video. My 71 C10 doesn’t have a dimple on the bottom. It has a small hole for the top and bottom pins.
You are correct. I probably only said dimple, but they should also have holes for the pins.
Every time I'd get out of my 68 my shirt would be covered in debris. Vacuum hose alone never got the job done. Now I know how to fix that. Thanks.
You bet Kent! Thanks for watching!

I agree
@@C10TruckNerd LMC AND BROTHERS Sells them 👍🏻
I had no idea about these vents even though I had one of these trucks before.
That’s not uncommon. Many never use them anyways.

Im going to weld my vents up and open the bottom os the outer panels get a vintage air setup. Then no more problems!
Sounds like a good idea to me!
I have a 56 and 65, wonder if they have same type 🤔 of problem, excellent video by the way.
Thank you! I hope they don’t hold trash like these. Thank you for watching and enjoy those trucks!!

Is there any tricks to getting a good rust encapsulater in these air buckets? I thought of spraying fluid film in there with a 360 degree wand.
Those wands that come with the rust encapsulator by Eastwood works well. Pulling the visors and rear view mirror off to get the roof line works great.
Thanks my 72 C20 seems to leak from above the kick pan vent on both sides?

Good to know! I knew GM started installing jamb vents in 1971 on these trucks. I wondered why. Thanks for the info!
I just Crack tha Window- and if your Worried about Water then Just Install the Metal Window Door shade.

What colour is that cab?
It’s GM light green code 503.
Great video but didn't show how to clean out air condition right side vent. Door is under tension.

Do you have a 69 cab for sale
No 69s. Maybe a 71 soon.
Most older Vehicles had them.. Was your air conditioning..lol
Heater cab only. I thought it was a smart idea to have them other than they were always clogged and would rust.
