My rescues taught me to recognize earthquakes were happening. We live in a state that gets on an average of over 300 quakes a year (deep ones that most of us don't feel).
Their behavior would become very uneasy/agitated/fearful a few hours before and leading up to "the event".
Once they calmed I'd check the Internet earthquake site. Yep, each time...an earthquake.
POOP...MAD is also how I feel when I have to get up at 2AM out of my warm bed to go to the bathroom.
I guess Justin wants Mom to clean the poop out of the litter box.

My cat forecasted the 1993 Nisqually Earthquake, Day before he is running around like a nut, hugging the ground and vocalizing. I noticed it. Told coworkers about it next day..few hours later the quake hit. Next day my coworkers wanted to buy my cat. He also forecasted another smaller one. Great friends. You are lucky. They say animal can feel what’s going on. My cat runs under my dad’s bed just before a real nasty thunderstorm hits.

Besides using communication buttons I notice he uses his whole paw and thumbs to grasp the handle to open the cabinet !

Actually, that kind of ties this all together, because some humans feel things like a bad headache or experience some type of painful symptom just before an earthquake. Apparently, it's something similar with cats. I knew animals could sense them, but didn't know it was painful for them.

@@superomegaprimemk2 Well, you don't! If you are lucky enough you get one with a natural talent to predict tremors!... I'm just joking! All animals can feel an earthquake. You just need to watch them closely for sudden changes in their usual behaviour. Some won't even want to eat or drink, will meow or won't purr if you try to pet them. (I'm talking about cats). In extreme cases, they can even scratch or bite you!

Maybe you should get buttons for "Tectonic" and "Motion" so the cat can distinguish between earthquakes and other kinds of movement.

No. Cats brains are not adapted for human language. But they are are very intelligent and learn by association. Those terms require definitions and abstract concepts.How do to explain “tectonics” to a cat?

@@eadweard. Not what I said. If buttons are introduced properly in an interested cat, they will use them to communicate. And it is not random. But they have the intelligence of a 3-3.5 year old, use buttons of USE OR INTEREST to them, and evolutionarily don’t have the capacity for human language.

The quake hit when he was completely asleep. And he … stayed asleep.

Only during the last few seconds of rocking and house creaking did he wake up. Then he freaked out and began running through the house. Into walls, furniture, … Eventually he found the cat door outside and burst through it.

Justin seems like a really cool cat. I'm not sure why but I keep hearing people refer any black and white cat to a tuxedo but this is not the case. Tuxedo cats have a black body with white feet and a patch of white fur on their throats. All other patterns are simply B & W cats, not that one is better than the other. 😉 All cats are special. 😊
I'm a redhead and I love orange tabbys. Justin is beautiful and obviously really smart. Animals have a 6th sense about certain global catastophies. Trust what they tell you.

I would recommend that you do not let your cats outside even on a cat patio unless you are there to watch them. I’m quite sure you are aware of the high risk animals that could harm your animals please consider.
A well made strong catio is very safe. A coyote or raccoon can’t break through. Unless you live in bear or mountain lion country, then yes, those large animals are a danger.

ALWAYS LISTEN TO YOUR CAT! And do not be surprised if he combines words you did not put together. Once a cat realizes the sounds Humans are making are more than just noise they learn quickly! Now IF I can just figure out how my cats learned to tell time! Around this house "Treat Time" is 3 am (I am a cat too!) and 3 pm. If I am NOT watching the time I can count on at least one of the Clouder to come to me about 5 minutes before or 5 minutes after 3 to remind me of the time!
I have always thought that cats can communicate with us, and those buttons sure helped Justin get his thoughts across to his Mom! He is an amazing cat! They can be really helpful when a dog or cat has been trained on body parts and "ouch." "Mouth" "ouch" can get a pet help much faster than waiting until the owner notices and starts guessing what's wrong.
This “talking cat” trick has been debunked on other channels. The cat is not pressing specific buttons to communicate the concepts recorded in them - much less pressing multiple buttons to form phrases. He has simply learned to associate pressing buttons with a reward.

My only quibble with you: it is Not Cat ownership. It is being a friend and a guardian and maybe a mentor. And since Cats have a lot to teach humans, it is also being a student at times.
