Edit to TLDR: Animal free testing sounds amazing. Just remember kids: never ever think of using people for testing, as it's torture for people too. It was done in the past by the Nazis, Japanese (WWII) and the US Government and these were crimes against humanity.

Most people cannot adopt an animal but most of us can make a small monthly donation to our local shelters. Years ago I started feeding an abandoned cat who one day brought a friend, who brought a friend.......
And how many friends did they bring-??? Those cats seem grateful for you and feel safe enough to keep bringing friends

I would guess the best way to help these poor animals is to share this video and spread the word. I immediately sent this to a friend in Oklahoma who has a degree in animal research (I forget the exact name of it) so they or those they know can help them if they can.

As a human that grew up in a food scarcity situation, I find purposely starving cats depraved and unforgivable.

I actually don't buy that they kept them food deprived or they would be heavily fined by the USDA for every cat that they were treating that way. It's quite literally illegal and all animals used in testing are supposed to be kept in the least stressful way possible and depriving them off food for their lifetime would count as animal abuse and they would have been shut down. All testing facilities will have enrichment programs and as she said they were well socialized for easy handling which likely was due to enrichment. This is actually crazy. I'm not saying they were treated like they would have been in homes but I think this is highly exaggerated.
Scientific testing is important, but it should never, ever, EVER come at the expense of another living thing if it can be helped.
the cats aren't starved, they just go hungry for a while. i pretty sure that most cat owners would make their cats go hungry for a while when they're picky.
Let's say that you're right, and THEY are starving the cats. Since some of the cats may actually starve to death, they'd have to breed more to make up for the loss.
And just to be clear, BREEDING ANIMALS IS A NIGHTMARE. it takes up a lot of time, and resources. they may not even produce any offspring. AND they'd have to condition the cats to make them friendlier. So overall, starving the cats would be a waste of resources and time. So unlikely they actually starved them, the cats probably just went hungry for like an hour.

All medications for humans have been/are required to be tested on animals prior to healthy human studies. I'm talking paracetamol, ibuprofen, etc. You're welcome

Also, they still do a lot of animal testing just to get funded tens of thousands of dollars and keep lab jobs. They don't need to keep forcing beagles to make cigarettes. The progression of lab-raised meat alternatives and organic options will hopefully balance out the overproduction of meat and destroy industrial animal agriculture ("industrial" being the operative word).

Sights that show these wonderful stories of kind people rescuing animals could do so much more than just encouraging people to ooh and ahh about the rescued animals and the rescuers.
The majority of people leaving kind comments and declaring that they are animal lovers have no problem paying someone to abuse and kill animals on their behalf so they can eat them.
Whether it is a cat that was rescued or any other sentient being it is all related to the horrific cruelty of animals.
Certainly not intentionally shaming or badgering anyone.
This video was a missed opportunity to educate people on purchasing only cruelty free products, making people aware that they could help stop experimentation on animals by refusing to buy products that participate in such cruelty. Remaining silent does nothing to help the Animals.

🌿🐾 I've thought for some time that there is another way to have medicines tested without involving a single 4-legged baby. Testing on fur babies does not give results that always help humans anyway.
If I were in prison with no hope of going traveling to visit anything in the world, to water-ski or skydive or whatever,I would agree to participate in the testing of new procedures, new medicines, etc.. Naturally it would require a security guard to accompany me, but that could be covered by donations from taxes or animal lovers.
Some would say this is a radical idea, but testing on these poor monkeys & dogs & cats & rabbits and whatever is way past radical in my mind.

Pets don't like vet day, but Bagel was way beyond. His first encounter with a lab type setting after he was saved and free, after he knew love, must have been absolutely heartbreaking. Poor boy must have been SO scared and confused. Thank you so much for saving him and loving him. I'm beyond grateful. You were bonded before you met, and he WAS sent to heal your heart. No question. ❤❤❤
Yes he was so terrified, but after a week to recover from the trauma, he started to come around again and realize he was safe! Thank you for your kind words. He really is an angel and a balm for my broken heart (as all animals are) 🥹🪽❤

Scientists will argue that currently it's impossible to avoid animal testing. I don't know anything about that, and strongly support animal-free testing.
But certainly one thing that I know is that it's completely and utterly absurd to torture animals for vanity products such as water resistant makeup, stronger deodorants, etc. Legislation should start there.
Life saving drugs against cancer and such might have a little bit of an argument, but vanity products are simply inexcusable. I can't believe animal testing is still allowed for vanity products at all.

Thanks for your kind words 🩵 I agree money is the primary driver for this cruelty - but it can end, because animal-free testing alternative technologies like organs-on-chips, mini organoids, and even AI models, are both more accurate and (eventually will be) more cost efficient! Animal testing has a 95% failure rate in translation to human clinical trials. For drug development and discovery, animals are largely useless. The status quo is going to change soon, and it will mark a paradigm shift in science! ☺️

Now that's a project that is worth supporting. And all those dogs and cats, after going through all that, are still friendly and want to be with people. So many times we don't deserve that love.
This whole back story of the babes just makes me sick to my stomach and so very angry, and sad. How, how can "people" do these things to other living creatures? @@Buksyuri Computer models, lab grown tissue samples and other scientific methods other than using innocent animals for their cruelty which has been proven not to work since many animals metabolize substances different that our own bodies. Maybe get some convicted murderers to subject themselves to these experiments.
There are many reasons for animal testing and animal model based research.
@@Buksyuri Computer simulations, cell cultures taken from adult volunteers and grown in a lab (often this just involves collecting some cells from the lining of your cheek with a swab), only using ingredients that are already known to be safe, testing on human volunteers (I think the Body Shop does this, although I might be wrong), using discarded placentas that are then cultured and grown in a lab. The vast majority of animal testing being done is for either cosmetics (a want, not a need) or household products like cleaners (again need, not want) and all that testing is unnecessary so just eliminating that will reduce the amount of animal testing done by a huge amount.

Personally, I only support the following methods of obtaining human tissue for testing:
1) From a deceased person who has donated their body for medical research,
2) Cells/tissue obtained from adult volunteers
3) Discarded placentas or umbilical cord blood.
I'm so glad Bagel has gotten an amazing chance at life. It would break my heart, though, leaving that facility knowing there were so many other loving and wonderful animals left behind. At least they're safe now.

All our cats have been rescue/shelter cats. Most have seemed so grateful to have a safe place to live and regular meals and can take months to lose that clinginess.

@@jjradV That's an odd question. Humans are predators, as are cats. Humans just need to only eat free-range prey, living in nature or on a real farm and having sunshine and natural food to eat and some peace. There is no shame in eating prey - just like cats, our metabolism requires that protein and iron. Doing animal testing is sickening.
Sadly there are reason, though they are thankfully becoming less, with different testing methods being developed.

I had the wonderful opportunity to adopt a cat from a University Research Lab (Metabolism study for 4 years). Adapting the cat from cedar chips to clay litter, variety of flooring. She was with me during college and was able to adjust to living in Colorado, Arizona,Indiana and Las Vegas. She was my sidekick and was a very good pet. Recommend adopting every time. Your video brought so many memories back. Thank You.
