This make sense... I too have smelled gas in my 2001 honda civic lx and my son left his jacket in the back seat floor and it had a gas smell. I've left jackets in my trunk also and same thing. But now I know where to check. Thanks!
How do you say problem, but I got a the check engine code P1457, And I smell the gas so heavy when pick up something from my backseat today so I wonder if this can take care of it?
Had to Google "gasoline odor honda civic" because I started smelling fuel about a week ago and thought I was tripping until it persisted the entire week then figured it has to be the tank or pump because it's strongest under my back seat. This seems like the most likely culprit. I don't have any hand tools anymore or time to do it myself otherwise I'd replace the pump myself but at least this gives me an idea where to tell the mechanic to look.
Thank you so much for this video! I was smelling gas and took my car to Honda. They said they couldn’t find anything and checked the diagnostics and fuel pump. So they said it was only the gas cap. They replaced it. I still smelled it. So I saw this video and checked the fuel pump myself. It was a mess. Everything was black. Went back and they were so surprised. Paid $188 to check it and I had to find it. They didn’t even me a little refund.
Now you pay me that $188 😆🤣😂. Sometimes we mechanic not know everything but some lazy mechanic just want a big fat paycheck. I'm glad you found this video. I'm friendly hope you click on that subscribe button as it saying thank you. 😊
I have a problem like this on my 2002 2.3 Accord, my tank doesn't seem to breathe because when I have 1/4 gas my car loses power and smells like gas from the tank cap
Many thanks for your video and detail instructions. My Civic 2003 has a smell of gas inside the car everytime i had a full tank refueling. what would you advise sir?
Does this give you the check engine light on with code p1457? Cause I have that and I changed the canister and both valves... but still have the light on
What do you know? popped mine open and guess what... a shit ton of gas surronding the fuel pump. It was soo strong that I hd to get out of my car.... i don't know how I did not smell it early on. thanks tho. Might go to the junkyard tmr to pick up a new one. Btw are you Hmong?
@@chengxiong9661 I recommend buy new part not getting old one from the junk yard because mostly junk yard part it almost the same as your already. Look on ebay and Amazon they might have new one for good price.
@@alltsab oh okay. thanks bro. If i do buy new one i think i will go oem or at least denso. a trusted brand. but am i right for replacing just those two? or does anything else need to be replaced? I see a puddle of gas around my fuel pump when I opened it.
Fuel pump sender unit. What I replace is not available to sell separate if you buy from auto parts or dealer. I went to the junkyard i separate the unit and pay for the cover lid by itself only.
I’ve got a 05 and I’ve been smelling for couple months now. Thanks for the information. I will be getting into it this weekend .
You welcome

Great vid! I have an 05 civic and this helped me troubleshoot it. I had the same issue. Thanks!

Is this the reason why my 01 civic chugs gas like a v8?

Apparently my fuel injectors are bad and leaking fuel the pump assembly was fine...
Have a 2009 honda civic and i just find out the same problem. So i am going to the junk yard tomorrow.

This is how dealers work. They are there to take the money without actually doing much work. Glad you were able to find and fix it

What if i only smell gas outside when i start the car?
i only smell gas when the car is idling and when its 1/2 a tank what would you recommend? 2000 honda civic EX btw
Check your injector o-ring to see any leak there
thanks bro you save my ass.😉
Thank you

My Civic 2003 has a smell of gas inside the car everytime i had a full tank refueling. what would you advise sir?
Can open your back seat to see any crack like the video I showing. Most likely you probably have the same problem.
Helped out alot ..thanx
What if u smell it from outside like out the muffler?....really appreciate your videos 👍
Out from the tail pipe mean that your car doesn't burn all the gas.
Does this give you the check engine light on with code p1457? Cause I have that and I changed the canister and both valves... but still have the light on
It does but I don't remember what code it is
what can i seal crack with?
Does the 2001-2005 Civics have the same parts? Or do I have to find my specific model?
Im not sure but that year same body style it should be the same
thanks
I smell gas outside my car only not inside...could it still be the fuel pump?
Depend where it coming from.
Me too,,,did you ever find the problem ?
U sure this isnt a safety recall man this is dangerous man gonna check mine today i have gas smell 01 es
Wouldn't it be cheaper or easier to seal the crack? I have the same problem on 2008 civic
That will work too
How would you seal it though? That sounds like a good option.
No no no. It’s gasoline. It will eat right through what ever you use to seal it! Replace the whole fuel pump. That’s the best option!
@@shanedawson-xt3wtgood point . Left gasoline in a cup and the very next day the cup was almost eaten up by the gasoline
What is the name of that piece on the gas pump
When you change the pump do you have to change the connector as well?
No

Could be the same problem as this one because Honda build their car very similar way even though it is different year.
