I’ve been in the boat business for most of my 40 yr career. Selling Yamaha and Suzuki outboards. Typically you want the cavitation plate ( aka ventilation plate) about 1/2” to 3/4” above the keel of the boat. If you watch the close up of the water coming off the keel you’ll notice the water comes up as it comes off the keel when on a plane. Raising the motor one more notch will probably help.

Good morning. On top of your boat transom. Should line up with your. inside top mount engine bracket. bottom of the boat the lowest point should lineup bottom of anti-ventilation plate . I enjoy your video. captain.🙏🏼😄
@RalphSanabria Great point, captain and yes, I need to make that really good level. So the engine will write better.I will get that done soon.Thank you for watching and I'll keep you up dated captain
Set motor anti ventilation plate .5 to 1” above the bottom of the V of hull. 21’ boat with a 225 I feel like you should be going closer to 40 mph turning 5200 rpm.
I thought you needed to raise the motor before but after looking at your video it looks pretty good. Like others have said, a higher pitch 3 blade prop will give you better fuel economy for sure. For every degree higher on pitch it reduces your rpm’s by about 200. Also, a 17 pitch goes 17 inches forward per rotation. A 21 goes 21 inches per rotation so you can see going higher your moving through the water faster and your rpm’s are reduced. Both things give you better fuel economy.
I have the same engine Yamaha 2018 F 300 4.2 liter, your engine looks like it could be raised. Move it up one bolt. The other suggestion would be changing to a 4 blade. I used the yamaha on line prop guide and got better mpg at cruise..
@@bobbambace9580 3 vs 4 is not as significant as pitch on the blade. You need to marry it up so you get the desired rpm's for your motor. 3 is a little more efficient on plane because less drag and 4 blade is a little better at hole shoot and rough water because of grip on the water. Cap needs to look at correct pitch on the prop to get his desired result.
@OutOnTheReef I got the OS1 Turbo Prop 4 blade with 17 pitch. I have 2 suggestions again use the prop selector on the yamaha and Mercury website or a prop vendor. Secondly, Prop Gods on the web and Hull Truth website are helpful as well.
Skipp you know I'm all about the fishing. These electric motors are great when they work but they seem problem matic. Time for the mini out riggers do some pelagic species targeting
Maybe a custom-made propeller based on boat size/weight and the engine's horsepower? Tell the shop what you are wanting as far as speed, MPG, etc. Little bit more trim tab? That engine must be heavier? Moving faster and saving time using a tad more fuel means: "Time is Money". The engine will only get more efficient with time and use. The people that suggested the jack plate probably know way more than me. Sounds like the MinnKota needs a service? The CPH is running like a sports boat, Don Aronow would be proud! Nice people, Stanz Fishing. The young lady seemed to know quite a bit.
@jeffreypinder9398 yes the wife is a pro wen it comes to boats engine too, and yes I will find a solution on my fuel savings At least the engine is running perfect.I just need to tune it a better propeller and maybe Raising the engine, Thanks for watching captain and see you on the next video
Another amazing vid Capt. I would take a vid to a boat place near you to help with the location of the motor, you have the best boat builders down by you. Nick is awesome love going to bud n marys that 47 freeman is insane
@ratfinkron5793 he's is a awesome guy down to earth and yes his boat is insane 4 motors is a blast and yes I will find out about the motor high 👍👍thanks cap.
Hey cap, if the cavitation plate is below the keel, then raise it up, in my experience I like the cavitation plate even or an inch or so above the keel. Too high then the boat starts to porpoise and you have to manipulate the trim tabs to get the boat to run right and then prop blows out when you start to add trim. Typically if the boat starts to porpoise that means the prop is slipping a bit, it is grabbing and trying to lift the boat but then it slips, usually adding cup to the prop resolves this issue. I certainly would not be opposed to trying the top mounting position but I think when you add pitch to your prop and a bit more cup I think you will find the sweet spot. Maybe a prop like the Solas Scorpion Prop would be the right trick, they are great props not too expensive and they come with a good bit of cup out of the box.
love your comment cap it makes lots of sense and i have a Yamaha prop that i have not tried yet and has more cup in the prop i will try that too and i will look at the Scorpio from solas up, thanks cap for trying to help me 😊👍

@@ramonqueloquera Great suggestion, captain and I did that, but nothing happened, but I'm gonna open it up and see what's wrong with it.I don't think it's the batteries now
I know it stinks but you definitely need to get that cavitation plate out of the water. If it's in the water, it will pull the back of the boat down and why you have to trim it down to keep the nose down. Plus the additional drag is bad for fuel eco as you've seen. I would also recommend going 3-blade prop. Let me know if you need a hand and I'll help you since you're right down the street from me. ;)
@icaza1 You know that captain. That's what I'm thinking that cavitation plate needs to get out of the water. And soon I will raise it to the last boat and go for a test drive.Thank you, captain.Appreciate your awesome help
Hi Capt. The motor seems to be mounted at the proper height. Trimming the motor up will improve speed and mpg. Also compare mpg using gps vs motor pitot speed to see which one is is better. Since you had overflow the last time you fueled up, is there a chance you had more fuel in the tank than you realized? Thanks for these videos, you’re my favorite UA-camr 😊
@sharpjs1969 great point cap. And no it was the vent problem because wen I checked the fuel gage was low 10 gallons about, I think is that vent canister that needs to be change cap. I will keep you updated on any fix and thank you for watching.Have a great weekend captain
Cavitation seems correct. Use a straight edge to confirm. 17inch prop would give you about another 300-400rpm increasing fuel eco. My second guess would be a 20/21 pitch
Hi Capt. I’ve been enjoying your journey with the new engine. I was hoping you’d go for a Suzuki but with gauges, engine fitting etc I fully agree with the reasons for staying with Yamaha. Your fuel economy is terrible, no doubt trialling props and adjusting height will see big improvements. I get 3.5 mpg with a 300 Zuke and my boat is bigger and heavier than yours. My mate has a 200 Yammy on similar size boat and he easily gets 5 mpg- amazingly good. Oh, nice haul of crayfish (lobster) too 👍🏻🐟🐟🎣🎣🛥💨🍺🍺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
@Cammo-vp1gl Welcome to this huge fuel economy and probably the Suzuki Has a better gear ratio I will try somebody and let you know how they work.Captain , thank you for your awesome suggestions. 👍
The motors cooked mate. 👍 There is only 1 good yamaha for the pilot boat. That was your last boat, just look at the mpg you got out of your old motor. it's the only one that was economical.
@jamesrobertson8941 yes I agree cap because it had a difrent gear ratio and only 4 cylinder, but my boat fully loaded is 6000 lb and that 200 is only for a 3000 to 5000 lb max boat weight cap, it was a 2.8 L vs Now I have 4.2L And if I hit a storm with that small engine, I probably won't be able to get out of it.Because the engine will overheat and It's new engine. We'll take the load with no problems captain that's why I changed it, But yes , it was awesome engine fuel economy wise
Just a bit of concern. When you went out and washed down with the hose the boat was moving pretty fast and didn't see a kill tether for the engine attached to you. Please be careful leaving the helm w/o the tether. would hate to lose you and the boat kept going. Stay safe Cap!
@@charlesreece1704 Thank you, captain.I really appreciate you looking out for me.But I have a electronic kill swish on my vest if I fall off the boat the boat will shut off
Have you ever thought of putting in a jack plate?? A jack plate can improve a boat's performance in several ways, including: Better fuel economy: A jack plate can help improve fuel economy by reducing drag and resistance. Increased speed: A jack plate can increase speed by reducing drag and resistance. Improved handling: A jack plate can improve handling and make it easier to plan. Access to shallow waters: A jack plate can raise the engine vertically, allowing the boat to navigate shallow waters. Reduced corrosion: A jack plate can lift the motor out of the water when docking to reduce corrosion. Optimal setback: A jack plate can increase the space between the motor and the transom, which can improve performance. Rough water performance: A jack plate can lower the engine deeper in the water to help the boat stay on plane in rough seas. Engine height control: A jack plate allows for more control over the engine's height and performance. Jack plates come in both manual and hydraulic versions, with manual versions being less expensive. The size of jack plate needed depends on the length of the boat.
@@GameDrop23 Thank you for your awesome help.I will keep that in consideration once I Raise the engine one more bolt.I will have no choice.Thank you captain
Hey Capt! Don't know if you tried the Eco prop. You have to get the hub kit to fit Yamaha. Not cheap, but you will save in the long run,and pay you back on the eco. You know the pitch to run, but it makes "THE" best economy, aswell as performance. My buddy is going faster top end,and saveing fuel in his "sweet spot". Keywest Waterman from utube does a comparison. He has them now too. He has Mercury 225 but you can buy a hub kit to fit yours. Look into it Capt. Checkout Keywest's comparison too! I believe they are what your looking for! "ENERTIA ECO" prop!

yes now in this video i was using the 3 blade prop 14.5 by 15 pitch and that was the results i show in this video but i will try raising the engine 1 more hole to see how it works cap. thanks for your help.
When I had my boat and replace the engine I set the engine so the cavitation plate was level/ at the same plane as the bottom of the boat. If the shaft of this engine is the same as your old one you should be using the same holes on the engine. flush with the keel
@user-ph8zz7zm5f looks like the shaft is different but yes the water needs to be under the cavitation plate ,I think that's my problem cap. Thanks for the suggestion cap.
From what you were showing how the cavitation plate is below the water, I would raise the motor another hole. Either that or install a jack plate. Economy and performace will improve.

It’s possible that the continual flopping of your trolling motor cord fron the bouncing in rough waters could have the wires inside the trolling motor loosened. If you watch your video you can see how the curled power cord constantly bounces up and down and over time that can cause the wires inside to come apart. Might want to check that. I mean look at the beating you take from the rough waters imagine how everything on the boat is getting beat all to heck.
@@OutOnTheReefTo eliminate that bouncing of the cable, I use a Velcro strap to secure my cable tight around the shaft on my Rhodan trolling motor shaft while underway. Just zip it off when you are ready to deploy the motor.
Idk about mpg but 5100 rmp at 34 mph in a 21 is crazy. I cruise at 4100 rpms at 35 mph fully loaded with 4-6 people. And I have a 1989 mako 23 walkaround with a bracket. With a mercury optimax. There are tons of videos about engine height, easy to check all you need is a level that can reach from the hull of the bot to the engine lower unit
Hey Cap. That engine is buried. Needs to be raised. Follow Yamaha’s recommendations and use hole #4. Also your prop seems to have too much slip. Are you using a small diameter prop? Per Yamaha you should have a 3-blade 15.5 x 17. You should be able to fast cruise at 4500 RPM. You’ll love the boat after that.
hello cap and yes im using my old 200 prop 14.5 by 15pitch so you think 15.5 x17 pitch is good? i will raise it to the 4th hole soon, thanks cap. Saludos de Florida
UA-cam does not let me post the link. Google “Yamaha Performance Bulletins”. Once there use the filter to choose Parker boats. There is bulletin for a Parker 22cc with a small block 200 and another with the large block 250 (same block as yours). The 200 uses the 14.5 día prop on hole 3. The 250 uses the 15.5x17 on hole 4. They get 3 mpg with that setup, just slightly less than the 200. And optimal cruise at 3500rpm.
@micuraPR I saw it cap that is awesome info, thanks for helping me cap ,that great example and now I know the 4th hole is what is required, saludos cap

@GingerNinja68 Thank you captain and yes I'll make this new move and raise the engine up a little more the last bolt And go from there to see if it fixed anything and thank you for being an awesome viewer of the channel And see you on the next video
From what I observed with the engine trim all the way down, the engine mounting height seems ok. If it was too low, you'd be getting side spray from the lower and the steering would feel tight. Your four blade prop "might" run in the highest mounting position, but I don't believe that a three blade prop would run that high without slipping. Hard to be 100% sure without a sea trial. As expensive as fuel is maybe you should try the highest position.
@panamacitybeachbum Good suggestion, captain.I will try the highest position to see if it frees up the engine a little and get better fuel economy. It's worth the shot, And I'll keep you updated To see if this works were all excited to see this Is engine perform great thank you captain

Both things give you better fuel economy.
thanks Steve great info cap that helps me on making my decision cap 👍👍
I have the same engine Yamaha 2018 F 300 4.2 liter, your engine looks like it could be raised. Move it up one bolt. The other suggestion would be changing to a 4 blade. I used the yamaha on line prop guide and got better mpg at cruise..
@@bobbambace9580 what size prop you are using cap

@anthony_8122 Hello
Anthony and thank you for watching Is from beautiful australia👍

@hunterglenn492 that is a great suggestion cap. But at this time I have 5 years of warranty left on the engine, so after it could work
Hi Capt. The motor seems to be mounted at the proper height. Trimming the motor up will improve speed and mpg. Also compare mpg using gps vs motor pitot speed to see which one is is better. Since you had overflow the last time you fueled up, is there a chance you had more fuel in the tank than you realized?

Have you ever thought of putting in a jack plate?? A jack plate can improve a boat's performance in several ways, including:
Better fuel economy: A jack plate can help improve fuel economy by reducing drag and resistance.
I agree definitely will help
@@GameDrop23 Thank you for your awesome help.I will keep that in consideration once I Raise the engine one more bolt.I will have no choice.Thank you captain

Hey Capt! Don't know if you tried the Eco prop. You have to get the hub kit to fit Yamaha. Not cheap, but you will save in the long run,and pay you back on the eco.

@@OutOnTheReef I've been watching your channel for awhile and yea would have loved for a chance to fish with him when I could have afforded it.
What prop are you currently running and what prop do you plan on getting for better fuel economy?
@denniskim7368 Hello captain i'm running a 14.5 by 15 pitch But once I raise the engine one more bolt.Maybe I have more RPM to change the prop. But now i'm just getting suggestions to see what is the best prop for my boat.
Any suggestions?I would love to hear it captain thank you
@@OutOnTheReef sorry, no suggestions. Let me know if you change your prop
@denniskim7368 sure will cap. I will raise tge engine 1 bolt to see any improvement
I am still hoping for a trip to the Exumas?
@JCAJCA3 Yes probably once I have this engine dialed in with Good few economy.I will love to make that trip , captain thanks for watching
One notch up and then change back to a 15x15 4 blade.
@@thomasmccann5817 I have the 14.5 diameter bu 15 pitch 4 blade cap. I will try with that one first once I take the engine up. Thanks cap.
I believe they will ruin that beautiful paradise by continuing to build islands and along with that comes thousands more visitors. My guess is that $$$$ talks and that is how they are permitted to dredge. Maybe after the motor gets broken-in that the mpg will improve. I don't have much experience on boating at night so I'm curious are you watching your radar when on autopilot on your trip to the Bahamas? Anyhow, as always I enjoy your videos.
@tomd.43 Yes captain the dragging Ruins the.

Yes that is exactly what you have at that speed you need to be seen the prop the engine is to low you need to put it all way up what size way the 200 25” or 20”
@yunielky2008 the 200 was 25 inch shaft the same as the 225 cap
Hi from Greece. Why you don’t try a Seastar electric powerlift for better fuel economy
@akiskoutsampeloulis5473 thanks Captain for watching from Greece And I'll keep you updated if Lifting the engine help help. And yes your suggestion it's a good possibility
I m from Greece to, hi! I have the same engine, and i have slip problems... 1.75 ratio!

All the cooking inside will cover inside in grease without a hood exhaust
@robb1460 No, captain. What is doing? Is the air conditioning in the filter? Is doing all the hard work? So I just clean the filter and I'm ready to go next time., Remember the
Air conditioner takes moisture out so it won't stay there
I fill alot better now about my boat burning 3.3 gallons on a ten mile trip doing 23 - 25 mph.
yes cap 3.3 is great MPG i witch i can do that , and how heavy is your boat cap?
@@OutOnTheReef 950 lbs with me and two kids. It's a 50 HP two stroke.
@goldentrim344 that's why you are doing good mpg cap my boat fully loaded is 6000 Lb
@@OutOnTheReef That's crazy heavyd my Catalina 25 sail boat is 4100 lbs. I use a tohatsu sail pro 6hp to push it 4 mph.

Are you sure the problem is not in the remote?
@@DG-ig9xy No, captain.I have three remotes and I try all of them
Any one know if the bigger prop helped with fuel mileage?
@goldentrim344 A professional prop guy told me that Yes but it all needs to be tried ,he recommended me a 15.75 by 15 pitch But I think there's a little bit too big
@@OutOnTheReef ok cool. You got this easy peasy. I run a four blade prop on a 50hp 1980 15 foot trihull. I love the low speed control and hull shot.

Lo primero es ajustar la altura correcta del motor y después es que se trabaja con la propela, de cualquier otra forma es error y perdida de tiempo
