DarcI looks great as an imaginary creature which happens to be the Sugar Plum 🧚🏻♀️. I must admit that this piece is my favorite, because I find it 😌 during the COVID-19 outbreak. 👍🏻 if you’re listening to it in 2020.
I always felt like she should have run the New York City Ballet with Peter... Just as Balanchine himself--his parter was Lincoln Kristen. Martins needed a partner. It should have been his life partner. They should have shared the throne.
So much Nostalgia🥰 I used to watch this over and over again every year as a little kid! Unfortunately, it’s on a video tape so I can’t rewatch it anymore…. Does anyone know if this particular Nutcracker movie was ever converted to dvd??
Molto brava.Bighin Giulio Renzo
I did just realize that this may be the only nutcracker where the sugar plum fairy is holding a wand for the variation (that I know of.) Maybe that's why Balanchine moved the variation to the beginning of the act?
Hi T B .... My daughter was in the Miami City Ballet Nutcracker as an Angel here in Clearwater FL back in 2002ish. Although they do look like they are gliding or roller skating they are actually shuffling their feet in a certain way and the costume is made to actually sway in just the right way. It was super awesome to see in person .... Especially when 1 of them is your own angel baby !!!! 😁
@@jessicajamesspeaks Stanford city ballet (which is no more) had mini trees. I know the company split off years ago, but when I was 5 I was an angel with a tree at the palace theater.
I don't think Balanchine struck the right choreographic notes in the first half of the solo. The mid-length tutu is unflattering. Darci does nothing for the role here. It is mediocre.
I agree it is a very underwhelming choreo, which is nothing compared to the original Petipa/Ivanov -( Royal Ballet-, Cuban Ballet with even some terrifying gargouillades). To be effective it needs to be way faster and unassuming -( very much like Diana Adams' 1958 rendition). And here the music is somehow fine, but I've seen productions where the conductor slower too much the score and the result is a bunch of poses with little meat in between.
Darci Kistler wais technically absolutely pefect but she lacked a bit the elf like ballerina languishing feeling of for example Gelsey Kirkland. That is why more variation or phantasy would have been helpful here, I say as just a ballet fan
Now THIS is the real sugar Plum Fairy! It's like if Barbie's fairy was real! She'd be Darci~! ♥ Oh what a wonderful performance! ♥
Yes 🎉🎉🎉
No one choreographs better than George Balanchine…NY City Ballet! The best!
I was sent here by a Hallmark movie called Nutcracker Christmas. I admit she’s a wonderful dancer. Especially when she’s with her Cavalier!
Wonderful!
I absolutely love this variation 02:14 my favourite sequence

@@leeblackwelder9182 I can't wait to be that Mom or Aunt seeing my daughter or nieces in the Nutcracker 🥲🥰
No actually as a former ballet student they are just walking but due to the hoops obstructing their feet they look as though they are floating
The girls look like Daleks 😂
Yes!! I couldn't figure out at first what they reminded me of. Only that I was disturbed and confused.
Ewww those en de dans at the end. She looks beautiful, but god that man was cruel 🤣
YESSSS! THIS IS THE FIRST COMMENT!!!!!!
ADORE YOU DARCI!!!!!!!!😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
It starts around 1:15.
Is this in Stamford/Palace Theater or NY? What year?
New York because I can't think of any Nutcracker with angels holding Christmas trees 🎄
