For me, what is impossible is how great EFREMOVA was so early. I mean she has the technical proficiency of somebody like Marianela Nuñez decades before that woman was even born. It blows my mind every time.
Svetlana Efremova just blew me away. You cannot tell that Masha was performed in 1960. Just beautiful 😍 Alina Somova on the other hand, every role she performs I can see her thinking about every step she does… I’ll leave it at that!
I always think Alina was more artistic. She trades perfect technique for expression - she has shown in other times that she is able to do perfect athletic technique but let's the art take over. She does a similar thing in her other roles. Truly one of the best dancers of all time. She is very underrated
Svetlana Efremova was the best and most unique and original. In fact, some of the other dancers just copied her style and routine. Her authenticity and musical flair were perfect. If you watch closely, she dances with the music while others dance around the music. That being said, Larisa Lezhnina is fantastic but, her routine is actually Svetlana’s.
1:45 part surprised me! When i was around 7 years old i had a music box with a spinning ballerina, and this really reminded me of it. I think the music was sugar plum fairy too.
Thank you for mentioning the choreographer! I love this version much more. I really do not care for Balanchine's version with Suzanne Farrell. My opinion.
May Nagahisa was astonishing ❤ She combined the precision of 1960' ballerina (2nd video) and the grace&beauty of the ballerina before her. She stopped momentarily at just the right moments and didn't do any wasteful movements at all. Applauding the choreographer, and the music sounded fantastic as well ❤
Svetlana Efremova's performance is impressive with her lower body strength a quickness yet there's still room for improvement with balance and airiness in the upper body that more modern dancers like Osipova and Shakirova have expressed.
And here you have a great compilation of the best Sugar Plum Fairy Variations of all time from the ballet The Nutcracker. Of course, everyone has their own favorite, so, take this compilation as based also on our personal taste as well as on many other factors involved. And if your favorite is not among these ballerinas, let us know! 🥰 We would love to know more about your favorite and why you like her (comment below) 👇
I miss the version of the Bolshoi Ballet from 1989 with Nathalia Arkhipova .. this version is really different danced with such a flair and grace and great timing with moves..wonderfully danced with the perfect choreografy of Grigorovich that really suites the music .. might be a matter of tast ofcourse, but this is my absoluut favourite version ❤❤❤❤❤
Mariinsky's choreography is the one that speak to me the most. I enjoy bolshoi's but not as much. Is the other one Balanchine? I can't connect with that.
Balanchine sucks. He had no musicality but a huge ego so everyone just was brainwashed into think he was so brilliant when he wasn’t. He destroyed the Arabian Dance. I can’t even watch anything of Balanchine
You missed out the Royal Ballet version! I love Lauren Cuthbertson and Marienela Nunez in the role! It would be interesting to see the different variations the other major ballet companies do, too, and to see how different they are - the versions here are the Balanchine choreography, and the Kirov/Bolshoi choreography... What is also interesting is that in the Russian version/s, the role of the Sugar Plum Fairy is danced by Clara, which is different from the British and American versions.
@@marricca I disagree. Their Sugar Plum Fairy choreographer is boring. VERY boring. But the ballerinas are great. Have you seen Lauren in Alice in Wonderland and Winter's Tale? She is wonderfully weightless. Nothing clumsy there. But grantd, the Royal Ballet's Plum fairy dance is so ballet that any Bolshoi ballerina would also look terrible dancing to it.
For me the greatest will haveto be Lauren Cuthbertson. Her Sugar Plum has a very graceful and princess-like quality, and her gargouillades are impeccably fluttery, which is something very few dancers manage to achieve.
The problem is the Royal Ballet's Plum Fairy's choreography is the most boring of ALL. The dancers are great but they do so LITTLE with the many variations of the music that the result is underwhelming. I don't know what happened to the Royal Ballet's usual creativity here. Given a choreography like that of Efremova or Lharisa, I think Nunez and Cuthbertson would have done an AMAZING job.
Lezhnina is my favorite here and possibly my favorite sugar plum overall. Nagahisa is a surprising (but deserving!) choice. As for who else I would include…Goodness, there are so many! Obraztsova, Maximova, Yoshida. Though not a big name, Rina Kanehara of English National Ballet stands out in my mind.
May Nagahisa was light and joyful - like a fairy should be. However, this role has become too technical! Fairies are supposed to be playful and mischievous (as captured by this music) - they should engage with the audience (onstage and off) - I never understand why this choreography puts them alone in the center so far away from those they are supposed to enchant. It always feels wrong no matter how beautiful the dancer is. Let the fairy play!
'All said dancers' are beautiful and talented, Adams, Efremova, Farrell, Lezhnina, Nagahisa, Kaptsova and Somova ❤❤❤❤❤ ! And 'Kaptsova' is an all time favourite of mine. Of this 'DanceLine Ballet compilation tho, I'll also choose the American, elegant and tall 'Suzanne Farrell' whose dance style seems unforced ❤❤❤. Thanks again to @ DanceLine Ballet for sharing ❤❤😊.
Why doesn't the Nutcracker Ballet include some German, Italian, Spanish, Arabian, Chinese, Russian, Danish, and French Musical Instruments for the German, Italian, Spanish, Arabian, Chinese, Russian, Danish, and French Dances?
Wait a minute, New Dream Nutcracker Music Collection; 3 Nutcracker Ballets, 1 Nutcracker Operetta, 1 Nutcracker Indian Dance, 5 Nutcracker Concert Suites, 2 Nutcracker Audiobook Dramas, and 3 Nutcracker Musicals in Music Tapes and Discs and Music and Lyric Videos.

agree, she is flawless
NINA, always stunning dancer, plenty of poetry and soul, delight forms❤
I think Nina Kaptsova is the greatest of all time.
Whyyyyyyyy we gotta get old & die 😭
Nina Kaptsova is the best sugar plum!
All of the Russian Ballerinas . . . They are so graceful& light . . . They are so perfect . . . They don't seem real❣️
Agree! They are amazing.❤
Svetlana Efremova....... the best....
Each one is exquisite in her own way!💞💞💞
Svetlana Efremova just blew me away. You cannot tell that Masha was performed in 1960. Just beautiful 😍

Nina Kaptsova!
The platforms on the pointe shoes in the 60’s were so much smaller it gives a much more ethereal look.

Efremova was great 👍
I really liked Larisa Lezhnina. Her timing was impecable 👌.
She always does right? That amazes me often when i watch her performances
She was my fav too! I didn't know any of these dancers and to me she was the most perfectly fairy-like, precise and light dancing, beautiful posture!
Thank you for mentioning the choreographer! I love this version much more. I really do not care for Balanchine's version with Suzanne Farrell. My opinion.
The Balshoi versions are impressive, but the Mariinsky version is closer to Tchaikovky's theme as a doll.
Thanks! Great! Merry Christmas!
Thank you so much! 🙏 So glad you enjoyed this video! 🥰 Merry Christmas to you 🎄🩰🎅
the style has got more athletic. there is no best. each elevates the world in their own way.
Where is Ekaterina Maximova?
Looking at the choreography, since a few of them danced extremely well, favor the one from 1960.
same

It's so odd to hear such huge differences in the instrumentation and tempo of the music! Totally wasn't expecting that! Strange..
3:48 Larisa Lezhnina looks likes the complete embodiment of Tchaikovsky music…❤
Lezhnina is my favourite she is so light and delicate
Wow all so diverse yet so beautiful
Nina Kaptsova was my favorite but I’ll always choose Bolshoi over any company❤
Are y’all editing the videos??? I mean yours to edit but delete the comments about Svetlana or leave in the clip..
My favourite Sugarplum fairy is LeslieCollier of The Royal Ballet, she was so radiant.
Svetlana Efremova's performance is impressive with her lower body strength a quickness yet there's still room for improvement with balance and airiness in the upper body that more modern dancers like Osipova and Shakirova have expressed.

Suzanne Farrell, Larisa Lezhnina, May Nagahisa and Alina Somova ❤❤❤
May Nagahisa.
Trueee
Nagahisa is so light on her feet ☺️ Immediately caught my eye.

Yes, it is. And no one ever likes the Balanchine version! Not his best work.
I'm terrible with choreographers - which choreo is the one with the hops en pointe in the beginning?
@@smileyginger1 The Mariinsky version was choreographed by Vasili Vainonen.
Balanchine sucks. He had no musicality but a huge ego so everyone just was brainwashed into think he was so brilliant when he wasn’t. He destroyed the Arabian Dance. I can’t even watch anything of Balanchine
Y'all are all fools. Balanchines was the best because he knew the Nutcracker should be romantic and cheery, not technical and refined
Alina! ❤
WHERE IS EFREMOVA
For me they're all great, I wish I could do 1/3 of that 😭
1. Svetlana Efremova the best
2. Nina Kaptsova
3.Alina Samova
KAPSTOVA WINS!!! 👏🏻💕🩰
all time best alina somova

I notice that the dancers seem to be dancing a completely different choreography of this dance. Every one different, in their own way.

Oh, I forgot Kokoreva! She’s charming in this. (Though no professionally made videos that I know of.)
Totally agree, you named other really great ballerinas who could absolutely fit this role! Thanks for sharing this precious comment ❤️
Why do they keep speeding it

Larisa Lezhnina is THE Sugar Plum Fairy!

First one was awful and even off on the music. I’m not sure how she made this list
Margot
Evgenia Obraztsova is the best Sugarplum. Unfortunately, not included in this selection
Why doesn't the Nutcracker Ballet include some German, Italian, Spanish, Arabian, Chinese, Russian, Danish, and French Musical Instruments for the German, Italian, Spanish, Arabian, Chinese, Russian, Danish, and French Dances?
Diana Adams. Unique.
How is it possible to count Diana Adams to the bests? 🤣🤣🤣🤣 even the Suzanne Farell - looks like amateur. With choreography looking like aerobic…
I was thinking the same thing. The Diana Adams one was painful to watch!
@@NEnigma777She had no grace or elegance, and it didn't seem like she was giving any thought to what her arms were doing. That was a rough one.😳😬

Suzanne Farrell was not a Sugarplum Fairy. Her choreography is not nice enough.IEverybody is beautiful, maybe Larisa Lezhnina is the best.
Russians dancers are inimitable
The fact that Gelsey Kirkland isn't on this list..... :( She *floats* through her variation. It's completely effortless.
She's a really great dancer, she definitely deserves a spot, absolutely ❤️ We still included her in another compilation 🥰
