This is from a time when there was a shortage of male ballet dancers in Britain - shortly after the War - Due to a lot of prospective dancers being called up which hashed up the training of what few British male dancers there were - so they inevitable ended up as props for the many ballerinas Fonteyn -Grey-Markova-et al r
Nothing wrong with being a prop and Michael Soames always presented her beautifully. Anyone who can say that they thought her dancing the role of Ondine was the most beautiful thing that they had ever seen when partnering her gets my vote everytime 💞
FALSE! The Royal Ballet's "Sleeping Beauty" and this footage opened AFTER WWII. Michael Somes was an exceptional danseur and Margot Fonteyn's equal. Stop spouting BAD and false history!!!!
to me this is Tchaikovsky most beautiful part of the Nutcracker ! the other most beautiful dancers on this part of the ballet are Baryshnikov and Kelsey Kirkland ! unforgettable
We must close the eyes , listen only : Dame Fonteyn has not her audience in the people who love and understand Tchaikovsky , the music is sublime and only the music !
Марго прекрасна и блистательна, и партнёр несомненно красив, но прохладен. Спасибо, что поделились такой красотой!!!
Margot's control is simply astonishing to witness.
Sensational!
MAN she could strike those poses hard! The amount of strength, and endless practice to get that right ? ...and thats just one thing.
Magical performence.
Amazing and breathtaking!
Timeless...
speachless

i wish she did this with Nureyev,, 😌
I wish I could have seen her dance with Maris Liepa...lucky Australians 💞
This is "The Nutcracker", not "Sleeping Beauty".
I can’t. She’s so 🦄💜🦄
Fonteyn is Fonteyn, but no performance by Somes was ever a masterpiece !

OMG.... The technique back then.....
What is wrong with the technique? The steps are the same and performed to perfection. Thankfully no shadow of the gymnasium here.
I think so too, now it's too much like a gymnastic imitation of ballet
But they Danced.
Why? What's wrong with it? Is it bad?
No... some people want to see hyperextension with every move, in others words, gymnastics.
@@carolineholmes4524 Gymnastics and a loss of true gracefulness.
he is dreadful also for that time
Always your dreadful comments about Somes! Hatred and obsessions are not good companions.
@@UYTRELLO he was a true duffer but l don't hate him

What a deeply ignorant thing to say!
@@bfdredrock1451 I think he just can't get over the fact, that Fonteyn is English.
