    I'm an expat living in Thailand for the past 34 years. Took delivery of my Tesla model 3 dual motor exactly 1 year ago today. Now 30,000 km. Traveled all over Thailand. Daily I charge from home. Awesome car and experience. Better than my Mercedes Benz C43 which was twice the price. Please take the politics out of the EV vs ICE debate and the EV choice should be a compelling consideration,,,, provided you can charge from home.

    • @LifewithSerg
      @LifewithSerg  3 місяці тому +2

      I think EV’s are great cars if you want to drive an iPhone. I’ve driven several, and they just do not appeal to me. They are blindingly fast and full of technology, but utterly lack the driving experience and soul, that I personally feel ICE vehicles provide.
      Of course, this is just my opinion, which shouldn’t matter to anyone else. We all have our preferences. One is not more correct over the other. The problems start when people start to compelling people to think one way or the other.

    • @sunrisejak2709
      @sunrisejak2709 3 місяці тому

      @@LifewithSergYes, I can't argue your motoring preferences. 😁 I'm a confessed petrol head and can agree EVs lack a bit of visceral soul. But,,, indeed dual motor EVs have astonishing performance. The Tesla is not luxurious like my MB C43 but it indeed is premium. Just back from Phuket last week. 2,200 km trip and charged 6 times in 31 hours of driving and used the EV Pluz charging at PTT. It was a smooth and quiet drive down. I also have a preorder for the MG Cyberster. Should be a fun thing.

    Luv your car content Serg.
    Despite living here in Austin, Texas currently where Teslas are ubiquitous I think that Plug In Hybrids are the real future of EVs.
    Fact is the vast majority of consumers don’t need a full time EV with sub 4 sec 0-60 mph acceleration.
    A buddy of mine had a Chevy Spark EV that could do 0-60 in 7.4 sec which was pretty dang quick and chirped the tires anytime you pressed the throttle. Lots of fun!
    It had only had a range of 84 miles though. They stopped making them after 3 years and now you cannot even get new replacement batteries.
    A recent study showed the avg daily commute in the US is ~40 miles. When plug in hybrids sold in the US can achieve 60 mph for 60 miles with say an occasional burst of 0-60 acceleration of ~8 sec before the ICE comes on to recharge the batteries, then I’ll be the first to buy.
    As a tech guy I was at first impressed with BYD, but quality control of them and most of the other Chinese EV makers is reportedly iffy per Chinese auto vloggers.

    • @LifewithSerg
      @LifewithSerg  3 місяці тому

      I completely agree with your assessment of the basic requirements of a city EV. They are not there yet.
      Love Austin, lived there for a year before moving to Thailand. Will be back for a visit in a few months.
      Yeah, I’ve seen many of those reports. I do g trust the quality of most Chinese made goods either. (Said while utilizing Chinese made phone to reply to this, lol)

    So how much is gas in TH? With all the Chinese import electric vehicles, how does the charging work? Do they have charging stations like Tesla? What about the range on them? Me personally will stay with gas / diesel vehicles

    • @LifewithSerg

      Gas is about $1.109 per litre. Expensive when the average salary in Thailand is $509 per month. I don’t know how good the charging network is, but every mall has charging stations.

      Plus the cost, and pollution, to produce the new cars and batteries. One is better off, environmentally, to keep driving an old gas car, rather than wasting the resources it takes to produce a new electric car.

    The negative comments aimed at EVs are made by people ignorant of the technology or driving experience and cost. Ignorance is OK. They just need to experience an EV. While EVs are not for everyone those who denigrate them having no real knowledge or experience have no credibility. If you prefer a gas car over an EV that's fine. Lots of good choices. But those who have amazingly positive rrsults with EVs can share their experience respectfully. I have both an EV and ICE. The EV is better than the naysayers think.

    Electric cars = disposable cars. I suspect we'll soon find out that the carbon footprint on electric cars will be much worse than fossil fueled cars, since the avg electric car will essentially worthless junk after 15-20 years (vs a fossil fuel car which is more likely still be running). Once OEMs stop providing SW updates, or replacement custom microchips, which they will not support forever, the car will be a brick. Electric cars is also the end of doing a project cars at home.

    • @LifewithSerg

      Electric cars are really not the answer. Maybe in another 10-15 years. Right now, production of electric vehicles is a huge polluter. There is also lots of “creative accounting” when it comes to financing electric car manufacturers in certain countries. 🫣🇨🇳👀

      My friend here bought BYD for 1.1M baht
      Before that, his Gas expense was 10,000 baht a month. Now he paid an electricity bill only 2,000 baht more. Therefore, he saved 8,000 baht a month from gasoline, or 96,000 baht a year. As a result, if this car can be used for 12 years, it will be equal the car price already that you can dispose it.
      More over, he installed a solar cell in his house and if he charge his car during the day, he doesn’t have to pay any electricity bill.
      This is just an experience from my friend and in a consumer point of view here in Thailand.
      By the way, he just used his car for 1 year and a half, so we have to wait for any problems in the future.
      For now, he was going to sell his Honda civic and buy another EV.
      The US is an exporter of oil, so the oil price is much cheaper than Thailand. If I lived in the US, I will definitely buy a hybrid car.
      Thailand has to import oil, with a hot, strong sun all year, I will love my friend solutions.

      @@JUBKOOK Good luck to your friend. In the US, Chinese electronics and other goods are very low quality, and do not last very long under regular use. Maybe Chinese quality is better in Thailand than in the US. In addition, lithium car battery replacement is very expensive, and it's likely need to have a replacement before 12 years, especially in climates with extreme temperatures or high humidity. Personally, if I did have a EV, I would keep a gas car as back-up, in case there is a power issue or travel for longer distances.
