I remember seeing Josh Smith in little bars in south Florida when he was so young and doing a Stevie Ray Vaughan tribute band ..he was always been an incredible talent and I’ve been a fan for 20 years
I love hearing your thoughts on these great playing! You’re not only a great musician, but most importantly, you have a great personality! Keep it up! Salut from Montreal!
The filter of their playing, to your ear , to your knowledge to spoken explanation of what we just watched , to our ears and eyes....such a joy watching your reviews
Wow, that was outstanding!!! Never heard Josh before, so thanks for bringing this group amazing group of musicians into my world. Super grateful. Thanks for your awesome analysis. I get so much pleasure from your reactions Mike. You’re super cool.
Been a fan of Josh Smith for a while, but the amount of shit he pulled out of the bag on this one is ridiculous. He showed how to be a pro on so many levels. The analysis was incredibly informative and revealing of how good Smith really is...nice job MP! Oh, and that little melody he throws in the middle...that's St. Thomas by Sonny Rollins. Killer!
Michael....feeding on your enthusiasm and sheer joy of the music is absolutely inspiring!! I just can't help but love watching you being taken captive. I'm with ya bud!! Keep on keeping on!!
Trying to make a long story short.....I was 16 in 1987 when my pop passed and fortunately every single musician he had ever played with called on me and made ot possible for me to take care of myself. A lot and I mean a lot of what I done to help make it was what we used to call "jam sessions for hire".... These guys right here take me back to those days. These guys are so good at having fun with what can only be described as a good old fashioned jam session. I like, I miss it and this is just freakin cool.
Yep, ol' Josh can really lay it down when he wants to. His rhythm and timing are so in the pocket. One of the best. Looking forward to tomorrow. Thanks
Josh Smith is a creative and exciting player in a way that very few other dudes can pull off. And that loose whole band improvisation is what it’s ALL about.
Dude, josh is insanely undiscovered and underrated, especially in the world of UA-cam, no reason this guy shouldn’t be Bonamassa territory as far as recognition! Good pick mike, I love it!
I was lucky enough to see Josh play live in England and it was phenomenal, a real experience. I’m convinced he’s one of the greats. The thing I remember most was the rhythm playing, he didn’t lose the rhythm the whole gig, it was insane.
Man, at around 18.13 just thought you were going to tear it up. You must have been tempted? Loving your videos man. I'm learning loads. Would love to hear you show us how to apply this stuff. Everyone has a different way to learn but for me I love that level just above me where I am kind of there. Keep 'em coming lad.
Flippin love this! Hadn't really listened much to him but will be from now on! 😊 Also it's a shame you haven't done any Sean costello for such a young guy he really had it 🎸
I was at that show. I sat just behind the lady that was filming. This was a free show at a small venue downtown Nashville, which was awesome. Maybe 30 people or so with standing room only. R.J. Ronquillo, Zach from Mythos pedals and Joe Morgan with Morgan amps were there too. Got to meet them and Josh as well. Killer show. Josh’s tone is crazy good.
Josh is one of the best out there. Funnily enough he used to be good friends with Derek Trucks as a kid, they used to practice together in each others bedrooms.
Yeah I agree. I love the intro analysis. I'm learning guitar 5 years now and my focus is on blues rhythm. To get a better understanding I bought a cheap drum set to learn basic drums because I realise now how important drumming is to music. So I appreciate the high hat comment. But back to Robben Ford, it's exactly what he talks about and practices. Always talks about the intervals and where you need to be going. Leading into chords etc. Great analysis MP. Thanks for the video.
One of the best guitarists ever. Travis Gunther is another fantastic player. One should give the kudos to probably the best of all time (RIP) Danny Gatton..
You have to checkout the vid with Kirk Fletcher and Josh at Normans famous guitars. Both playing twin 59 strats!! Off the chart!!!! Lol . Its awesome! Thanks for what you do maestro!😊
Joshnis such a hybrid picking beast that half the time you dont even know he's hybrid picking but his music knowledge combined with off the charts skills gets you JS technically very advanced with awesome feel and musicality
Maybe you have mentioned it before and I missed it, but what do you use for your electric guitar tone for the videos? I always really enjoy your playing. Thanks for braking this stuff down. Your videos are so fun to watch and I always learn something.
Hey Michael I am not a member yet but I watch your videos every night. I like the way you break the musicians and their music down. You are very good. I would like you to listen to Billy Strings and his band play Train Train. It is awesome. I don't understand how somebody that young can play so good. He will be the best flat picker ever.
So this is what you do, Michael. You keep on throwing these things up into the airwaves, showing these brilliant moves and your own enthusiasm: it's intoxicating, man. And then I pick up my guitar. And before I know it: it's two in the morning. Man, I need some sleep once in a while!
I can’t seem to find a live play of Sir Rosevelt playing this song but you should check it out if you haven’t already heard of it “ it goes on “ thank you and have a good day
Yeah I know where the groove i...Oh, yeah, that's exactly where it is... Hahaha, yes man. This one is a killer. Check out the version of this tune with Josh, Scott Devine, and Gary Novak. It is a killer also.
you should watch Josh playing with Kirk Fletcher and Ariel Posen in Collings booth at namm. They take simple chord progression and trade solos reacting to each other in such a way that you never know what's next
Josh is so great.
So great. Now please forgive me while I lay down after my beating.
InstaBlaster...
He is criminally underrated
I remember seeing Josh Smith in little bars in south Florida when he was so young and doing a Stevie Ray Vaughan tribute band ..he was always been an incredible talent and I’ve been a fan for 20 years
He's a been friend of my Sister in law since he was real young., she does a blues Radio show down there and knows all those guys.

Good analysis..” Intents AND purposes” Merry Xmas
Damn. So much freaking talent and so many ear treats! Great commentary, as always, Michael!
Totally agree. On a side note, Bonamassa is a lifelong friend of Josh's (got that from the andersons itw I think)
It doesnt help that he has the same name as an NbA player. Every time i search for him I have to be more specific and type in guitar player as well
I was lucky enough to see Josh play live in England and it was phenomenal, a real experience. I’m convinced he’s one of the greats. The thing I remember most was the rhythm playing, he didn’t lose the rhythm the whole gig, it was insane.
This is gonna be a fun live stream. Looking forward to it!
I've been hoping you would connect with Josh. He blows me away!
What a gift it is to be able to watch this video and immediately Be able to start playing along with it. Great stuff
Looking forward to tomorrow night even more after this! Fairly new to Josh, but loving it!
Josh is a killer and your breakdown was second to none. I learn so much with every song you bring to the community! Thanks a lot for this!
I saw him and the frost in Sebastian beach Inn when he was like 18. Awesome guitarist! Nice video.
This is awesome! Josh Smith is the man!!
Killer band! The guitar playing is absolutely phenomenal. Learning so many quality new groups from your channel. Keep it up Michael!

josh smith is one of my favorite guitar player.thank you for breaking his song Michael. Also u should break some Kirk Fletcher.
I think that cartoon you’re referring to might be woody woodpecker lol... such an awesome video and can’t wait for tomorrow with josh smith!!!
Lol....I thought the very same thing!! The choice of notes in the woody theme is spell binding.
Josh is a true badass... love your "react" vids!
Calvin Turner is hands down my favorite bassist.....when I have the time, I will find a way to practice all of his tracks and what he's doing.
I will try and stay out of the way (pauses 5 seconds in) 😂 Great reaction. Josh is a beastly guitar player. Have been following him for years.
Josh Smith is just fantastic. Seems like a really nice guy too.
Wow ! I didn't knew those artist . Thanks for the video man ! Keep it up ! :)
Josh is a beast, when he sticks 'St Thomas' in there that got me good
Yesssss
Josh Smith has gotta been one of the grooviest guys around right now. Nothing wrong with that gold tele either haha!
He sure is! That's a black tele btw. I think we may have found the guitarists version of "the dress" from 2015
@@NeilWaudby wow you’re totally correct. Just hits the light funny sometimes, great call though
That cartoon bit you referenced? In my mind it was a harmony to Woody the Woodpecker's little hook
Dude it might be!
I say it’s Woody Woodpecker mos def
Josh is one of the best out there. Funnily enough he used to be good friends with Derek Trucks as a kid, they used to practice together in each others bedrooms.
Love Josh’s tone... so good...
That tone you can only get with heavier strings.
Completely flabbergasted first time I heard him 2 years ago. Such a gun 🚀 best videos imho are back with Kirk Fletcher
That intro was very Robben Ford. That snag to the flat 7 and he third, my ear immediately went Robben Forcd.
Yeah I agree. I love the intro analysis. I'm learning guitar 5 years now and my focus is on blues rhythm. I really enjoyed our show with deweezle Zappa. Look foreword to the next.
Getting all Danny Gatton on it towards the end
One of the best guitarists ever. Travis Gunther is another fantastic player. One should give the kudos to probably the best of all time (RIP) Danny Gatton..
Josh is one bad Mamma Jamma! His UA-cam channel is pretty cool as well! Love his Blues/Jazz/Country kinda vibes
Can't wait for tomorrow night!
Josh, definitely one of my top guitar heroes
Josh smith!! Hell ya man thatll be sick!! Gotta get Guthrie Trapp and all the worlds will have collided
Woody woodpecker’s laugh is what that lick was at 13:48! 😂
Josh Smith is a very very tasty player! The drumming is so good! 😍
Josh Sith is an absolute monster blues player, great vid 👍
cool song and vibe! It really reminds me of '90's Robben Ford and the Blue Line. The TONE!
Also, there are some great jams with him, Ariel Posen and Kirk fletcher that are so dang good, make you drool with the tastiness🤤
You have to checkout the vid with Kirk Fletcher and Josh at Normans famous guitars. Both playing twin 59 strats!! Off the chart!!!! Lol . Its awesome! Thanks for what you do maestro!😊
Josh is an absolute monster, and this performance is killer
Guitarzan! Josh Smith is a great guy and an absurdly talented player. Not everyone from South Fla. is crazy. Some are just crazy good!
And he's rocking an Al Green T. Love the dude.
Tons of good riffs there great
Josh is right up there with Bonamassa, Johnson, and Gales. He can play with anyone, and is extremely versatile.
God, that tone! I want this guitar!
He has played with so many. Dawyane wiggins bass player Tony Toni Tone. And list goes on. Plays many styles!!!
Joshnis such a hybrid picking beast that half the time you dont even know he's hybrid picking but his music knowledge combined with off the charts skills gets you JS technically very advanced with awesome feel and musicality
Oh, and major props to 1anitrasdance for recording all these amazing vids! If you have not checked out that channel you are missing out!
Awesome video!!!!!
I think Robin Ford when I hear that groove.
Josh's playing is always tasty.
Josh pushing those 13's around like they are 9's.
No joke!
It's really, really good.
great playing. His playing is so reminiscent of Robben Ford in this one. Two of my favorites.
Maybe you have mentioned it before and I missed it, but what do you use for your electric guitar tone for the videos? I always really enjoy your playing. Thanks for braking this stuff down. Your videos are so fun to watch and I always learn something.
Yes brother, Josh is a monster player! Even better person 'Just like my bacon...finds it's way to my plate at least once a week ;)
Dude I eat bacon once a day! C'mon man live it up!

Excellent point, good sir. However, it's been scientifically proven that bending to the perfect 4th will clean out arteries!🤘
you make transcribing fun 👏
The "cartoon" you are hearing in there (@14:01) is the "Woody Wood Pecker" theme!
13:38 "clearly I can't do it..." you crack me up!
Tremendous improv!
Funny I don't understand 90% what you are talking about , but I enjoy all of your videos! :)
Go Josh Smith, Go GuitarGate, Go Browns!
No browns :)
Haha indeed no browns
At 21:00 Josh plays the entire head of the jazz tune St. Thomas. The guitar teacher doesn’t mention that.
After dinner jams very nice

Seamlessly throws in a bit of St. Thomas by Sonny Rollins. Absolutely killer. He is definitely the real deal.
BEAST
Josh is one of the absolute blues players on the planet.
He is so talented and he feels the guitar! Love it! Thanks for doing this Michael.
I would love to see some Grand Funk Railroad here, it would be awesome!

Damn! That phrasing is 😎
I was at that show!
Micheal, that “cartoony” part at 13:55 is the song “Tequila”.
Or he was thinking Woodie Woodpecker's laugh. At least that's what I felt there
