I love that Christopher Lambert apparently recorded both his English AND French dialogue for the original Mortal Kombat movie. He even took a pay-cut to film on location! Stellar guy :)
Wow, this basically tells us that the writers were probably not as completely incompetent as the final show made it seem - it's just that the EDITORS were completely incompetent!
I really find slightly different versions of TV and films so interesting. I never imagined they put this much effort into Conquest, even modifying a word in a line - especially when the original seemed better! Thinking of Taja using her skills for boiling things to hell involving Siro in a different way brings me joy.
I loved the flippant delivery Like "I just found this thing on the ground and boiled the crap out of it. It'll help with the pain. Or it won't. Whatever. Just drink it."
Kung Lao: "This is the Emperor's doing!" Raiden: "Yes. He's tried to kill Tomas before. Like he has you. And failed." ...But not this time! (Wuah Wuah Wuah Wuuaaaaah~!) ^^;
After all the stuff the MK games took from the movie, I would genuinely want to see Siro at some point, even if just as a deep-lore fandom-reference. His victory lines could be "THAT'S IT!" and "HEY. I learned my lesson."
What did they take from it? I am genuinely interested, my MK lore is rusty beyond playing the ~10 main games' stories and a bit of Mythologies and Shaolin Monks long ago.
@@KasumiRINA Off the top of my head, there's the Johnny/Sonya and Liu Kang/Kitana relationships, and Kano as a character is a big one. He started off as a Japanese-American in the early games but after the movie, he became Australian and pretty much always looked like the actor in that film from then-on. I'm not sure about any big story things, but a lot of characters definitely LOOK more like their movie counterparts in the most recent games (i.e. Raiden, Shang Tsung).
He would also have 3 fatalities: 1) Hit the opponent with the Discussion Punch and tie him to the Discussion Blade for interrogation on who killed the monk 2) Make his opponent wash his feet 3) He just makes the "Siro Face" in freeze frame, and his opponent dies
YES! YEEEESSSSS! MORE CONQUEST! GIVE ME MORE!!! Sorry, I just love your work on Conquest (and anything related to Siro Bernhardt) ! Also thank you Tabmok99!
Fun Fact: I was checking out the TVTropes character page for Mortal Kombat recently. Apparently Tomas is also Smoke's canon first name. I expect that's a coincidence, but then again the games have been very reference happy since the reboot.
That's not a "they're considered reptiles now" thing, like that's a new discovery or concept, it's that that's the case when using phylogenetic classification, which categorizes things based on what they descended from, even if they no longer have the characteristic. Birds are diapsids, as are every living reptile, and they evolved from dinosaurs. Basically, they're reptiles inasmuch as they are very closely related to reptiles compared to other groups like mammals.
@@mastermarkus5307 Mammals also evolved from reptiles, but no one wants to call them reptiles. If you want to call birds reptiles because they're diapsids, then why not just call them diapsids? People don't even want to say that pterosaurs are a type of dinosaur anymore, but we should call them all reptiles for some reason? It's ridiculous.
@@handsomebrick You're right about that. Except the pterosaurs, I think they just don't count as dinosaurs in the same way that we don't count as canids, they were just notably far apart. I'm not sure they ever counted as "dinosaurs" in anything but a colloquial sense but I could be wrong.
Insert joke about Siro's heart so cold or something. Anyway, I was thinking while watching this that a well-written version of this episode would have served 2 purposes. 1) Highlight the role that deception can play in the MK tournament, before, during, or even after. If you aren't able to figure out who's lying or see how different pieces fit together, you can end up allying with enemies or changing allies into enemies. 2) Taja and Siro should have realized that they aren't just risking their lives by helping Kung Lao; anyone they care about can become a target. This could make them question their decision to help and even cause undeserved resentment towards Kung Lao in later episodes. Or we can have episodes with Bee women and Quan Chi going, "UUUUUUUUUUUUHHH!" I think we all know which was the better choice.
I love to see the original cut of episodes and movies. They often show how bold or at least how more nuanced some things are in storylines, that is before executives tell the production to remove the interesting stuff because they think the audience just wants trash. It's so uncommon to see Konquest characters acting like real humans. I liked the awkward flirtarion thaf failed due to lack of chemistry, that happens a lot in real life and we barely see it being depicted on TV. Also, Vorpax always has glimpses of a deeper character that is NEVER explored due to the "hijinx of the week" way the producers wanted the series to have. I would've liked to see her turn against the bad guys and become part of the group.
Watching this it feels like the creators wanted to do more with this series but didn't know how to fit in all the elements. I didn't even realize this episode was supposed to be a Taja episode (I thought it was a bad Siro episode).
"It was worth it to spend more time with Siro, right?" GOD YES. I wish they would make another series and make it as terrible as possible just so you can do more reviews. Then again I also wish they would make another series and make it really good so we can see what it would have been like if the show was really good.
