I'd add a few more to this: - Keep an eye on your torch. If your torch goes out, you get an encounter that could be really bad for you. Assistance encounters are the best source of torchlight you can get, but sometimes it can take it away from you as well. - Improve your characters relationship. Don't just try to win the fight, try to assist your party members, so they like each other more. Keep an eye on your choices at encounters and use items in inn to further improve on it. - Keep an eye on loathing. Once it's up, your torch will die even faster, so reduce the loathing meter by resistance and cultist encounters. - Stress should not hit 10, or it will reduce your characters health to minimum and seriously hurt their relationship. - Mastery points can make your skills significantly stronger. Doing quests and some enemy encounters can get you additional mastery points.
Great guide! Loving DD2 so far and I will say the Plague Doc’s Ounce of Prevention skill is OP. Once you add the mastery, the party stress heal makes a run so manageable. It should be one of the first mastery points you spend on
Damn dude, you cover all of the games that I love! If you start releasing Combat Mission videos in the future.. we'll have to be best stranger friends forever
I fucking hate that whole ''dying is good'' trend that essentialy reward you for well...dying.I dont feel like i did something good when i win with this,i feel like someone keep lowering the difficulty till it was easy enough so i just win.The worst is those type of game dont even reward you for lasting long enough...i just hate it.
Do you use the same 4 heroes throughout an entire run? or can you switch out heroes you've unlocked during a run? I do like only having 1 team in this game, makes the heroes more personal.
I did not play DD1. Should I play that first so the storyline flows better? On another note, this was a great overview/guide. Thank you for creating it.
I'm glad to learn that I'm supposed to lose my group from time to time, I got rocked so hard after two inn's that I thought I was doing something wrong.
Asking anybody here, I never played the first. I assume I should play the first and then play this on release right? Or is it more so the kind of game where I may as well jump on the 2nd?
You don't need to play the first one at all - it's quite nice. This one does a better job of introducing you to the game I'd say with a lot of the little tutorial call outs. There's no real story continuity that I'm aware of yet outside of cool little references and call backs
@@italianspartacus I wanted to thank both of you for the recommendation. I'm playing the first, on week 4 now. Having a lot of fun with this game, been a little while since I've had this much fun with a game so really thanks again.

Theres some rumors that he died in the first game. He might show up as an enemy or something at some point, i encountered antiquarian one time in the burning city map
I am in love with this game. My first run ended just before the guardian encounter at the last inn towards the mountain. My man-at-arms and PD both died in a encounter fight then Dismas and grave robber died in a no light ambush half way to the guardian encounter. Felt really good surviving that long.
DD1 was a slog. It was a grind game. Camp bonuses trivialize boss fights. Even on the hardest difficulty, it's just not that hard. But, it takes fucking ages to grind random encounters.
I crushed through the first area on my 3rd run, everything fell apart at the end and it didn’t remotely feel good. It didn’t even feel unfair, the boss cutscened me. If a game doesn’t require my input to make me lose why do I even bother playing, like I get odds but seriously I watched 6 rounds of combat as my poor sole survivor could do nothing. Funnily enough one of their lines one “Let me lay down and die” and I agreed they shouldn’t even let you enter without a full team if it’s gonna be that useless. Save me the damned time.
@@italianspartacus To be fair a two man team probably won't ever win against a boss. Still stun resist needs a boost after a target is hit with it. Like I just wanna have some input, maybe even if its futile. Six rounds in stun city was too long of a trip if you ask me.
I'm kinda sad to say it, but I'm really not that stoked about DD2. Maybe they will change through the further course of early access, but right now it feels almost bland to me. Building up the Estate was a brilliant stroke, something that had gravitas and tightly knitted your ventures to a story of perilous conquest. Not you've got a profile level. I can hardly think of a more efficient way to kill atmosphere faster. Also there's no strategy here, no choice, no decisions. I'm also no big fan of the 3D, which looks better than I anticipated but I still prefer the original 2D-look and the game immediately looks better when in fight. Also: Bumping into piles of leaves with your stagecoach to gather goodies? What is this? A runner game on my phone? I hate to say this, the first one was a masterpiece, by far the game that did cosmic horror best, but this is off to a really bad start. And I fear that the game's very premises - nearly everything they changed on a macro level - seem so flawed to me that I doubt they can salvage it in early access. So far the only thing I truely like are the intensified relationships between the pawns and that the fighting system has ditched the RNG-reliance.
@@italianspartacus oh really now. That's certainly going to make things much more interesting. I'll have to finish watching. Had to leave before I could the other day.

Got arrogant after getting to the mountain on my 2nd run. Haven't been back since...
The best guide by far out of all the ones I watched. Clear, concise, very simply explained for beginners. Just overall the perfect beginners guide!
I'd add a few more to this:
- Keep an eye on your torch. If your torch goes out, you get an encounter that could be really bad for you. Assistance encounters are the best source of torchlight you can get, but sometimes it can take it away from you as well.

Dude the Stress hitting 10 is BRUTAL. Meltdowns are rough mid-combat. Great list man! :)
Do you know if u can keep your upgraded heroes after a run (some kind of roster) or do u get a random set of heroes each run?
I love your voice so much. I can listen to these all day haha. Great detail and depth as always!
Hahah thank you brother! :)
I love this game and now series. Looks so good.
Tis a delight my brother!

Oh it's SO good because there are so many status effects this time around
Definitely.
I always loved the art style of the original, the 3D models look slick too. Can't wait for the full version.
they are a little too uncanny for me
Thanks for the AOE4 and Darkest Dungeon 2 videos!

Super excited to play this
OH IT'S GREAT!

Only 8 hours in but from what i saw u stick with the 4 heros u pick at start
I believe if one dies mid journey there's a change to replenish them, but i haven't come across that. The tutorial makes it out to be that way
i was wondering what i was doing wrong but when you said that dying many many times is a bigger part of the game than the 1st, it all made sense 😂
I did not play DD1. Should I play that first so the storyline flows better? On another note, this was a great overview/guide. Thank you for creating it.
Nope not needs at all :) and absolutely brother, happy to do it!!
Hey mate buying it on Epic store now but did not see your creator tag anywhere. Bummer would've been easy to give you some credit.

You can play the second if you want. Playing the first just makes it easier to get familiar with the game’s systems because they’re similar.

Hey, will you still be covering WH3? It was strange not seeing your take on Khorne's mechanics...
I just wasn't inspired by the Khorne mechanics, but I gotchu with the Tzeentch roster my boy! :)

I can't believe I didn't see the early access coming. I'm jumping aboard boys and girls! Let us suffer!
LETS GET IT GOING!
I feel so stupid I’ve played this a couple times and never knew you had to use your provisions at the inn 😓🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
Were people really complaining about DD1 being too easy?
Maybe I'm just bad at it lol
DD1 was a slog. It was a grind game. Camp bonuses trivialize boss fights. Even on the hardest difficulty, it's just not that hard. But, it takes fucking ages to grind random encounters.
Not so much easy, but min max-y. There was an optimal way for everything. This eschews that and I love it

Where's the other classes crusade flagellant and the rest not buying a new game for less classes and only like one new one.
Where's Reynauld? 😶
I HOPE he makes it in somewhere. He's my favorite
Someone who just started playing the first one. What do you mean it wasn't designed to die miserably??
Hahaha well if you die you just die, dying in this one advances the game

I don't know if i can play this game. The first game stressed me the fukc out.
This is better because they're more or less MEANT to die hahaha
Why tf would they put deathsdoor on enemies?? What are these changes!?!
all die in the first 10mins,thats normal. no its bad gamedsign
even in darksouls you dont lose progress and items . DD 1 is a way better design
I actually didn’t like the game as is. I’ll try again later I guess. Was a huge fan of the first iteration, but this one failed to grab me.
whats up with the weird popping P's
hmmm i didn't hear any, but I'll keep an ear out
From my humble experience many of the info is wrong
I played my first run today. 5 hours play time, never get killed. Easy game.
