I remember when I wanted my own computer (I think I was 9), I really wanted to play the PC version of the sims 2 and some free MMO games. My dad brought me a secondhand Toshiba laptop I don't think it lived very long maybe a couple of years, that poor laptop was always getting suffocated by my blankets. Hell, I wish I had a desktop PC. For some reason, my dad didn't want a desktop PC anymore and only brought laptops so the first computer I got myself was an MSI gaming laptop.. it was A CHONKER. I got it in 2014 it lived for 5 years. It started having overheating problems and it eventually fried itself. I didn't know much about computers at the time so I didn't realise it was thermal throttling I just thought it was slow cause it was old. I started learning about computers and hardware in 2019 and fell down the rabbit hole of Tech UA-camrs. I built my first computer at the beginning of 2020 and I absolutely loved it. I'm totally a tech geek now.
That`s the way ;) but nothing is as good as a solid tower PC on a desk and a laptop as power-saving alternative when computing and watching movies and series in bed.
curious if you've kept that old chonker. now that you're more experience you could try and fix it just for the hell of it. i'm pretty sure your warranty would've lapsed by now.
Welcome to the family. Can't say much, I still have the old AMD K6 CPU from my first (personal) PC, kept that thing running from 1996 to 2006 when it simply could not keep up.. Then went full stupid and build a duel CPU PC from a server motherboard.... I mean it was awesome for the three years I had it, chewed up rendering and 3D modeling but found out the hard way that servers and home systems run a bit differently because it was bad for gaming.... Sadly that got stolen by an ex-room mate and was replaced by an el-cheapo 300$ Bestbuy laptop at the last moment when moving to Florida to take care of my grandparent. That laptop got me from 2009 till about 2013 and left a burn mark on my grandmother's wood table while I was taking care of them (Running minecraft on lowest settings got it that hot). At which point two friends teamed up since I had been jobless the whole time to build me a new PC from mostly spar parts. On old first gen i7, a 660TI and 8GB of ram. 2105: That got upgraded to 16GB of RAM and two ASUS 970's after I had moved across the country and gotten a job (grandmother had passed away, Aunt stuck grandfather in a home and sold their place) 2016 (late): Replacing the twin 970's with twin ASUS 1070's, the cheap plastic clasps for the GPU bracket broke. Was forced to literally RIP one of the 970's out taking the port with it. 2017(early): A full rebuild. New Case, new motherboard, new CPU (i7-8700), 32GB of ram and of course the twin ASUS 1070's. (It's the same one being used right now) And no none of the usable parts went to waste, the case was used to build a room mate a budget gaming PC. Got a new motherboard, he got the old CPU one of the 970's and the RAM. The other 970 sits in my streaming rig I built so they could stream consoles. I waste nothing!
14:07 the power plan was previously set to “high performance”, it is now “balanced”. That should also reduce the heat output of the CPU when it isn’t fully loaded (for example sat idle at the desktop).

Pro Laptop experience tip. Never spin the fan when cleaning. Most tiny laptop fans can be destroyed when overspun. I recommend that you place a screwdriver gently in the fan to lock it in place. then use your compressed air, or suction.

I'm only 22, when I was 7 I had a crappy old desktop with windows 98 that I used to played adventure games and minesweeper on. Computer I had at 11 was a shitty hp laptop with 512 mb of ram. Minecraft beta had to have fog cranked up to only see up to 10 feet in the game for a buttery smooth 16 fps, and I loved it. once I built a computer with an AMD phenom 3 core, a gtx 650, and 4gb of ddr3, I lost my shit because I could play Skyrim in 720p 40 fps. I now use a gtx 1070 and an amd 1600 at 3.8ghz, that i've been grateful to have everyday for the past 2 years i've owned it There's something about going from 256 mb of ram in a PC, to a gtx 1070 from early childhood to early 20's that the younger generation's than my own will never get to experience. I feel lucky for being the last gen probably to have a humbled view on tech

When the performance mode is enables is when the GPU and the CPU are doing something at the same time... when running Cinebench, the Dragon Center only shows Balanced... when running Heaven, it shows Performance. If you look at the end when Im talking and when its running Heaven, you will see it say Hgh Performance.
Great video. One of the first thoughts that came to mind early on when you mentioned the "DLL exception handling error" was check Event Viewer!! Good old PC Tech Support 101!

That laptop was actually cleaner than some of my laptops (except for the screen). Using a laptop on a surface such as a bed or a sofa is a bad idea because it can block the vents, fan, and airflow. In addition to thermal paste, vacuuming dust and dog hair out of the laptop vents, updating the drivers, and uninstalling bloatware, other things to check for could be chkdsk, system file check/validation, and memtest 86+.
An awesome place to start troubleshooting instead of the Event Viewer: Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Security and Maintenance\Reliability Monitor This shows the information that most people would actually want to see instead of the innocuous and bloated Event Viewer.
I had the same happen to my thermal paste. I bought myself a new pc (with a 3900x) because I had a good excuse that my pc wasnt working right and after the build of that pc, I had some thermal paste left over, so I refreshed my old pc's thermal paste. It was completely dry and after the reapplication it ran at least 10 degrees cooler.
Give it back an tell her: "It's working again. I found some things that needed fixing. Thank god. I was worried it could need replacement already, but it's fine."
I fix my relatives laptop 3 times...I had to declare it dead last time. I can't get to the hard drive, the laptop is splitting in 2, roaches on the motherboard, more malware than you can shake a stick at.
Come to think of it, my 5-year-old Hp all in one could probably use a repasting. But when HP assembled this thing I don't think they ever intended for anyone, even licensed repair guys, to open it again. There are no screws, it's all fused together. Also, the only airflow is a 1mm thick hole with an exhaust fan on it. Also, I need a new PC, which I have completely built except for the Ryzen 3 3300X that exists but actually does not in fact exist.
Meanwhile I'm 23 and I've been using the same V-drum kit since I'm 11 and I still run a laptop from 2012 I upgraded by myself... I did complained once about what I received when I was 12. My dad said no video games in the house, I played none... in the house. Had LANs with my friends in their house. People were getting together and enjoying themselves... times changed I guess. Or maybe it's just my dad. Must be my dad.
This is exactly why I tell everyone I know: "Enjoy your laptop, don't touch it while it's under warranty. The second your warranty runs out, bring it to me and I'll clean it out and repaste it." I got more serious about this when I received an old HP laptop with a dead CPU (and probably a dead GPU as well) with 95% of the heatsink blocked with dust. It was breathing through 3 heatsink fins.
hook another monitor to it and look at temps in game while its not alt tabed out....otherwise the temps will drop significantly in the time it takes you to even pull up core temp or a similar program.... if it was that hot once you alt tabed and then looked.... then you can bet while in game even secs before you checked, the temps were 20 degrees hotter atleast on the gpu.... and if it shares heatpipes with cpu its probably still increaed by at least 10 degrees....

cant confirm ! - had a Gainward ´GTX 1070 Phoenix and changed the thermalpaste to Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut. I only had 1°C less than before. So there was already a really nice paste on it ;)

Pro Laptop experience tip. Never spin the fan when cleaning. Most tiny laptop fans can be destroyed when overspun. I recommend that you place a screwdriver gently in the fan to lock it in place. then use your compressed air, or suction.

I'm only 22, when I was 7 I had a crappy old desktop with windows 98 that I used to played adventure games and minesweeper on.
Computer I had at 11 was a shitty hp laptop with 512 mb of ram. Minecraft beta had to have fog cranked up to only see up to 10 feet in the game for a buttery smooth 16 fps, and I loved it.
once I built a computer with an AMD phenom 3 core, a gtx 650, and 4gb of ddr3, I lost my shit because I could play Skyrim in 720p 40 fps.
I now use a gtx 1070 and an amd 1600 at 3.8ghz, that i've been grateful to have everyday for the past 2 years i've owned it
There's something about going from 256 mb of ram in a PC, to a gtx 1070 from early childhood to early 20's that the younger generation's than my own will never get to experience. I feel lucky for being the last gen probably to have a humbled view on tech

When the performance mode is enables is when the GPU and the CPU are doing something at the same time... when running Cinebench, the Dragon Center only shows Balanced... when running Heaven, it shows Performance. If you look at the end when Im talking and when its running Heaven, you will see it say Hgh Performance.

That laptop was actually cleaner than some of my laptops (except for the screen). Using a laptop on a surface such as a bed or a sofa is a bad idea because it can block the vents, fan, and airflow. In addition to thermal paste, vacuuming dust and dog hair out of the laptop vents, updating the drivers, and uninstalling bloatware, other things to check for could be chkdsk, system file check/validation, and memtest 86+.

This shows the information that most people would actually want to see instead of the innocuous and bloated Event Viewer.

I had the same happen to my thermal paste. I bought myself a new pc (with a 3900x) because I had a good excuse that my pc wasnt working right and after the build of that pc, I had some thermal paste left over, so I refreshed my old pc's thermal paste. It was completely dry and after the reapplication it ran at least 10 degrees cooler.

Come to think of it, my 5-year-old Hp all in one could probably use a repasting. But when HP assembled this thing I don't think they ever intended for anyone, even licensed repair guys, to open it again. There are no screws, it's all fused together. Also, the only airflow is a 1mm thick hole with an exhaust fan on it. Also, I need a new PC, which I have completely built except for the Ryzen 3 3300X that exists but actually does not in fact exist.

This is exactly why I tell everyone I know:
"Enjoy your laptop, don't touch it while it's under warranty. The second your warranty runs out, bring it to me and I'll clean it out and repaste it."
I got more serious about this when I received an old HP laptop with a dead CPU (and probably a dead GPU as well) with 95% of the heatsink blocked with dust. It was breathing through 3 heatsink fins.

hook another monitor to it and look at temps in game while its not alt tabed out....otherwise the temps will drop significantly in the time it takes you to even pull up core temp or a similar program.... if it was that hot once you alt tabed and then looked.... then you can bet while in game even secs before you checked, the temps were 20 degrees hotter atleast on the gpu.... and if it shares heatpipes with cpu its probably still increaed by at least 10 degrees....
Good that i am looking back at this. I have a MSI laptop and both cpu and gpu get around 90C in games.

cant confirm ! - had a Gainward ´GTX 1070 Phoenix and changed the thermalpaste to Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut.
I only had 1°C less than before. So there was already a really nice paste on it ;)
