Am a teenage daughter myself, I was the one that initiated building my pc and my dad being a machinist was interested, took us 6 hours just cuz I had to explain what everything did to my dad and it being the first PC I've built. there's a few little quirks to it, the back fan wasn't plugged in, the radiator screws dont sit flush against the case so the filter has 3 visible bumps, and the USB A port on the front of the case doesn't work for the simple fact that I gave up after trying for 30 or so minutes, and the 2nd fan on my radiator isn't connected to a CPU_FAN header so it isn't running full tilt during turbo boosts, regardless the hottest my i7 has gotten is like, 70c. I watched you and others, Jay, to feel competent and confident enough to build a computer, parents weren't confident, they had a fire extinguisher ready, but thank you for taking some time in your videos to explain the little nuisances of computers.
But you did it and that's the most important part. Even if there were some hiccups, mistakes, or things that didn't work or look as you hoped, it's experience for the next build you put together.
Haha, they actually had a fire extinguisher ready!? You are probably smarter than what your parents think of their little baby girl. For the two radiator fans, just use a fan splitter to connect them together. But I guess you probably already know this...
It's really cool that you've taught your daughter how to build computers. Even if she loses interest in computers when she gets older she will always remember the times she spent with you.

This was 15 years ago going forward 9 years I got my own then the surface pro 3 years ago and last year I built my first pc. You know when you're older you have more money. I built a 5800x with a 3070 and I feel like I don't deserve what I have because I didn't go entry level/ budget, I went high end from the start.

You know you're doing something right as a parent when you're child would rather help someone else then themselves. Hats off to you for raising a good hearted kid Jay.
Yeah, Genshin Impact is pretty lightweight. I've played it on my current rig, which is ancient (4 core 4 thread sandy bridge core I5 2400, paired with 8GB ddr3 and a Nvidia Geforce GT730, all in a small form factor low profile PC) and it plays fine, only not on maxed out settings. I did put two SATA ssd's in raid0 for lower load times in games, but increasing from 8 to 12 GB ram didn't do anything noticeable for the light gaming I do, and my additional GT710 to make a 6 screen setup is only relevant for my niche work needs. A year and a half ago I built my friend a new PC with a Ryzen5 3600 and a RTX 2060, and he has no problems playing what he wants how he wants to. You don't need top end stuff to enjoy yourself.
@@ChronologiXFG It depends on your use case, if a person is only doing light gaming, web browsing and productivity tasks. You don't need top of the line components anymore. PCI-E 3.0 is plenty for most folks and now with PCI-E 5.0 being pushed into the mainstream, PCI-E 4.0 will be relegated to the "low end" components so no, you will no longer need top end components. Additionally, with FSR 2.0 almost everyone can get by with mid range components for a long while.
@@ChronologiXFG JTC talked about that in one of the videos. His argument was basically that, instead of buying a top of the line PC for 6-7 years, it's much better to sell your old PC once in 3 years (while it still has a lot of value) and buy a new one using this money.
I would just like to say, this channel has been unbelievably helpful. I’ve been into pc’s for a few years now, currently playing on a hand me down prebuilt i5 7400k - rx580, but I’ve been gathering parts for a new build that will be done in about a week. The honesty and positivity of this channel is extremely reassuring and refreshing. No BS clickbait negative videos, just solid advice that has stood the test of time. Thanks guys!

Your daughter has grown! Time goes by so so fast!!! I remember when she was a puny human being and you were teaching her how to build her first PC!!! Dang that's a long long time ago!!!
It's unbelievable little Jay is in her teens now. I remember seeing her and Jay the first time not to long ago when she was like 5 or 6. Makes me as a 25 year old feel extremely old 😂 She reminds me a little bit of myself. When I was her age I build my first very own PC with an FX8350 and MSI GTX 970. @aris xxo the kid will be grateful either way that he got better parts than the parents wanted/could afford. I was just saying im surprised how strong 2070 was i wish he shown more demanding titles but if their friend doesnt play them who cares ^^
RTX 2070 is still an awesome card, imagine getting one as a gift? Never forget the current situation, many don't even have a GTX 1660 Super which is the basic for 1080p High at locked 60 frames for some newer games, imagine a 2070.
@@ZinhoMegaman "basics" 💀 and here I am who still considers a 1060 as "high end" (I have a 1650 btw, absolutely love it from the bottom of my heart lmao)
@@r.g7261 Sorry, I'm not saying that the old but gold 1060 is outdated, it's just that for the heavier games the 1660 Super is now the recomended, not to say that there are games that ask for a GTX 1070 as minimum which is mind blowing. I have edited my comment to be more accurate with the current situation. But your comment just confirms what I said, many would certainly like to have a GTX 1660/1660 Super or a GTX 1070/1070 Ti to easy their PC gaming life and still there are those who thinks that a RTX 2070 is not that powerful anymore, I think.
@@ZinoAmare Dude, I have a RX 5700 which is more or less, depending on the game of course, the same performance, and I'm playing Far Cry 6 on High at 1728p 60 frames, the same graphics configuration as current consoles, you you can bet that the RTX 2070 will make the boy happy.
Man, that brings back the memories. I used to build stuff with my daughter, Natascha - mainly mountain bikes and PCs. First for myself, then for her, then for her friends. (With parts we ordered from all over the world - I was broke back then.) Natascha is 25 now. Also, she just started her PhD at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology. It's like, she's Young Me, but with brains and a work ethic.
My god! Your daughter sounds like a young woman now! I have been watching you way longer than I thought, she was so small the first time I saw her...I love to see family time like this! Love the vids
Cool to see you build a pc for her, and now she's building her own. Great to see you guys generally get along too. I realized recently that I'm lucky enough to (generally) get along with my dad, and it's only recently dawned on me how few people get to volunteer as firefighters working along side their fathers. We aren't really "close" in the convention "I love you" way. More like we just ball bust each other, but to me that's the highest form of flattery.
It is crazy how much they look alike. Jay always seems so proud anytime he mentions his kids. I bet when his kids have friends over he treats them as well as he would treat his kids
this looks so solid for a budget build, i thought the aesthetics wouldn't work but honestly it looks really nice from the front and the CM logo all lit up.
I really love family PC-build videos. My first/current rig sadly is just a pre-build altough I configured every component myself. Because it was initially meant as a replacement for our 15yo family PC for me to use for school (SolidWorks capable) my dad didn't allow me to build one myself (otherwise he wouldn't help financialy) but with the 1660 ti and i5 9400f it is still capable of running GTAV, FALLOUT 4, BF4 and pretty much every other game at 1080p high to highest settings with atleast 60 fps.
I've been building PC's since the mid 90's, last year I built my son a gaming PC and had him sit with me and watch how to do it, it was a great experience.
Me and my wife game together, however she's more a casual gamer and not into the big titles as myself. Last year I bought her all the parts she required and with my guidance she built her own PC. It was a fun experience. Especially the first time we fired her machine up. Now we regularly play together.
I recently built just about the same pc with my son last december. i opted for my slightly used amd 6600xt and bought myself a 6800xt. he loves it, and it is always a great time showing my kids this stuff. good job jay
Holly cow. That’s not the same little girl. ❤️. Then again I think the same thing after being away for work when I see my little girl. Loved the vid. Super kind!!
Greatly appreciate the video. We need more 'inclusive,' "Oh, you want a computer that isn't complete ass? Here's a perfectly adequate PC that'll get the job done well." builds. Neat little rig
My daughters didn't even want to build their own when I bought them all the parts for Xmas 2 years ago. They just waited for me to build em on Xmas day whilst playing with all their other new toys. They were 7 and 9 though 🤣
@@rossharper1983 gaming pc at 5 is also way to young xD If you ask me at least (I'm 19 and got my first game surviving pc at around 10 or 12 I think) I think under 10 kids should play (if at all) consol games on Playstation, or Xbox just because you can much easier have them play with someone else next to them. At PC game tents to cut you of from the people next to you. And I don't know if I would trust my 5-8 year old self with internet friends
@@mz00956 I have to fully disagree with you. With PC, I was and am able to monitor and restrict what they do on their PC's much easier and more in depth than any console allows. Their PC's are also in between mine and my wife's, downstairs in the gaming room so always within eyes and ears of one of us. I've raised them right so they even tell me if I need to block/ban people they've come across in game lobbies. And with cross platform play they are able to game with their cousins and school friends just fine.
@@rossharper1983 yeah I guess that's also a solution. Well, I am still only 19 and don't have to worry about those things yet. I probably see it that way because I have many good memories of playing with my older brother on consoles.
I absolutely love doing this with my "old" parts. I'm blessed to have been able to build quite a few before the dreaded state we are currently. So I was able to use "older" hardware to build a good enough PC for my brothers while they tried to fight scalpers and get their own. As a father of a 1 year old I'm looking forward to the day where I can build a PC with him for the first time, or dreading the potential realization that he might be more similar to his mother and have little interest in anything 'techy'...

Nice Jay. Including your kids in your work life says a lot about what a good father you are. And having one of your children build a system for one of her friends just makes it even more apparent that you are doing a fine job. And she obviously knows what a goofy nerd her dad is, so you got that out of the way :-) !
Tanjin- imagine (a possibility) not being able to understand that it’s not-for-nothing that Jay has the items he has. It’s a business and in a sense he is actually paying for them. Not directly, but because it is a business it therefore has cost, building he rents, studio/video equipment, employee salaries, business taxes… you get the point. Maybe you do understand that and aren’t bitching, but in the context of your comment your word choices portray a crybaby.
I love that your daughter is doing the build, going to start mine building here soon. Although I’m surprised you said it’s PCIe 4.0 when it’s actually 3.0. I changed my 5600G to a 5600 when I stuck a Radeon 6500XT in my Steam Machine build because it needs 4.0.

Jay is such a good dad. This is so cute to see father-daughter bonding this way.
You DO need the top end stuff, if you don't want to buy a new pc for at least 6-7 years down the line tho, IMHO
The shot of you two waiting for the PC to post is absolutely adorable!

Good Job DAD! Anytime you spend with your teen will be worth tons later in life. She will look back to appreciate your time.
It's unbelievable little Jay is in her teens now. I remember seeing her and Jay the first time not to long ago when she was like 5 or 6. Makes me as a 25 year old feel extremely old 😂
She reminds me a little bit of myself. When I was her age I build my first very own PC with an FX8350 and MSI GTX 970. Man those memories. 😅
Keep your friends close and enjoy your time with them. There is nothing more important in life than that ☺️
So glad that you helped out a kid Jay, showing that a 2070 is still a beast, Can't wait for the next video ^^

The best image was father and daughter with both their heads on their hands looking at the monitor!
So nice of you and your daughter Jay! Awesome and generous of you guys!!! You guys rock!
Great work team! Good to see the youngins getting into building
I love content like this - it's great that you can share your passion with your kids Jay :)
I love the interacting between dad and daughter. I got both of my kids into PC's at a young age and they are still very avid gamers as adults.

Omg your daughter have grown so much, can't wait till mines are old enough to build with them.

So nice seeing a good dad being a good dad in a youtube video while also getting some information! Love it bro!

If you ask me at least (I'm 19 and got my first game surviving pc at around 10 or 12 I think)
I think under 10 kids should play (if at all) consol games on Playstation, or Xbox just because you can much easier have them play with someone else next to them.
