When i was a model, many makeup artists would tell me that i have a heart shape face. This interested me and i began researching into face shapes , the more information i gathered , the more i realised that i dont have a heart shaped face. Judging between a heart shape or the diamond shape can be a very close call. In basic terms the heart shape has a wide forehead and a narrow jawline with wide cheekbones and the diamond has a narrow forehead and jawline with wide cheek bones. The problem is finding your face shape is not that simple and is actually much like finding your kibbie body i.d. just like the kibbie body i.ds the structure should be only compared to itself. Journeying back to the diamond and the heart shape and the differences, the forehead of the heart shape can be slightly narrow but its the diagonal outline from the cheek bones to the forehead that creates the difference. Is the diagonal exaggerated ? For instance a heart shape has wide cheek bones and can have a slightly narrow forehead and if you exaggerate one of those (narrower forehead or wider cheekbones) then the heart shape would be a diamond . If you was to just make the forehead a little wider it would still be a heart shape face , make the forehead even wider or make the cheek bones a little narrower you will have an inverted triangle. Looking at the face shapes in a simple way like i mentioned at the beginning is like finding your a Gamine in kibbie but not finding out if your SG or FG . Hope this helps someone x

Thank you!! It's actually hard to suggest hairstyles by JUST looking at face shapes alone. A lot of the belief out there is that the styles you can pull off are mainly based on your face shape but it's so much more than that - it's about your proportions and the shapes/vibes of your individual features! It’s a thing in Asian beauty - they call it the “peanut” shape but associate it with a negative tone because their standard of beauty is all about smooth bone structure, which I think is absurd personally 🤭 Since in NA we associate an hourglass shape as a positive thing I use the name hourglass instead of peanut!
I have an oval face until I smile, and then it looks like an hourglass. Its frustrating because when I get hairstyles that suit my oval resting face, it brings even more attention to my hourglass features when I’m smiling for e.g in all my pictures. What can one do for that
You should get hairstyles that are more suitable for angularity of the bone structure then - like softer curves around the facial outline / face framing layers for example :)
I think a long face shape is more of a length thing... like you can be a long oval, or a long diamond, a long square (an oblong I guess), etc. As for the "Hourglass" shape, it's more well known in Asian beauty industry and they call it the "Peanut" shape. There's usually a negative implication with the peanut face shape though (mostly because Asian beauty standards make people think smooth bone structure is more desirable, which is simply not true especially in Western standards) so I thought an Hourglass shape had a better and more positive ring to it :)

Exactly my point - it's all based on bone structure at the end of the day and all those categories of face shapes end up confusing you more, which is why I've simplified it down to 4 shapes and put them on a spectrum. So a heart shape for example would be somewhere in between a diamond and hourglass, an oblong face is essentially a long square, etc.

If you have a strong jawline as well as prominent cheekbones you are likely the Hourglass :)

Haha if you have some level of prominence in both you are likely in between a diamond and an hourglass, or in between the hourglass and the square :)
