    Just a tip for carying/using m72. Have the strap over the left shoulder with the back end pointing down. Then you can pull the tube to your side while still having your rifle slung and pull the safety pin. Then you are free to fire without having to unsling your rifle or the tube. Also when shooting over 100m. Try to get proper support for non-shooting hand. Its big variation in trigger weight betwen different batches and therefore easy to miss if you dont have proper support.

      Good points! With the older variants that have trigger on top it is always recommended to support the launcher on surface if possible. You just need to have enough clearance around the business end of the launcher.
      Also when arming the launcher I would hold it higher and do short pull first and then sharp pull until tube snaps into the position. This ensures the proper arming and if defective launcher were to go off during this phase it would not harm the shooter.

I went over to his house one day and saw an M72 tube and was immediately in awe🤣 to make a long story short he had access to expended launchers and I managed to snag one from him. I’m not exactly sure what happened to it I think my mom tossed it when we moved but for many years that tube featured in our many airsoft battles🤣

    My experience with the M72 is the delay between pressing the firing tab and the time of igniting the ricket. Those who are not familiar with this phenomenon tend to shoot low because the tendency is to lower the muzzle on firing. If you are familiar with the delay in firing, you will find it is quite accurate.Although the warhead is small, it is quite efficient.

  • @Jimmy___
    @Jimmy___ Рік тому +4

    I wonder if the connector is really necessary. Like what do all of those pins do? If there isn't some sort of complicated data transfer going on, they might just be voltage (perhaps more than one voltage) and ground. Would be worth poking around with a multimeter, or sticking some jumper wires in there + attaching the other side to a battery and seeing what is going on with each pin. My point is that you might not even need the connector, might be possible to just cut it off and re-terminate it. But beware that some cables with lots of shielding can be annoying to re-terminate because of the sheath on the inside.

  • @Nick-hm9rh

    The Jugoslavian m80 Zolja almost works identical. Trigger and sights are horrible tho.
    The Zolja has no safety pin. To detach the covers you have to fold the rear one down and it flops the front one down with it and also pushes the extending tube out a few inches. Then you extend it, open the front sight post (its a clear see trough chart with distances ) and pull the safety back (similar to ar15 charging handle).
    then you just aim and shoot. If you decide not to shoot after Extension the m80 has the Same Button. getting it back together is kind of flimsy tho since the front cap is annoying to get back on
    The sling is permanently attached not like the m72

    Brings back memories of my conscription, the Finnish Army 66 KES 88 is the same weapon.
    The newer version 66 KES 12 is probably the best light AT weapon I have ever handled, very quick and simple to use and accurate as well, due to better trigger.
    Who knows, maybe the LAW you fired was a donation from old Finnish stocks.

I’ve read some Vietnam memoirs of guys who loved them for clearing bunkers since you don’t have to get it through the slit, it’s arguably more effective if you hit the outer wall and create a spray of spall on the other side

      @@gbb1419 Well RPG-7 is more versatile for sure and maybe cheaper.. But way way heavier and plus ammo for it.. I would take M72 for sure over that if there isin't more than 1-2 "targets" to shoot or a bunker or house/room to clear it and hell no i'm not shooting it inside of building either of those things, at least 50-100 metters away for sure..... And running with RPG-7 is way harder than with M72.. And it's "fire and forget" and rarely you would not to but it back in "safe" mode either if you do it's "rare".. That's my experiense in our army at Finland.. And our "Close Quater" rpg is NLAW and same goes the M72s.. But we use M72s and Apilas, NLAW and the Spike's generally.. But M72s are more common and easier to use and ditch it away..

    Could be easier to install a new western brand push/pull receptacle to the NVG mount - and a new push/pull plug to the battery cable. LEMO has a lot of great push/pull connectors, and will be happy to sell you a single piece. I also really like the sub-miniature D38999 style circular connectors, they are similar in size to the russian connector it seems like.

    • @mk12pickle
      @mk12pickle Рік тому +6

      If you have to open the NVG then it has to be purged again i am pretty sure. The western ones have nitrogen inside them and they are not really "field serviceable". Their best bet is to find one of the drawings of that connector and 3d print one.

      @@mk12pickle I was looking for drawings which are good enough to make a 3D model. It is easy find drawings but they are hardly good enough. I'm not sure if it would work if I printed one. Maybe I could ...try... to make a 3D model and someone in Ukraine could try to make the plug. Making it in Ukraine would furthermore reduce the risk of being delayed or lost at the border and if it does not work you could easily adapt the design.
      Maybe it would be possible and useful to redesign the plug in the process so that it uses western style crimp contacts (Harting or simmilar), which could be easier to source.
      I'm not sure if it would be useful if I tried to recreate one, then send it to Ukraine where it arrives a week or two later, if it arrives, just to find out that it does not fit...
      There are many great machinists in Ukraine, which should be able to reverse-engineer the plug. One that I know of because he has a nice youtube-channel is Engineer BrunS www.youtube.com/@EngineerBrunS/videos .

    • @mk12pickle
      @mk12pickle Рік тому +1

      @@Superwip it needs to be 3d scanned I think, that saves a lot of time in reverse engineering a part. Though as the other user above points out the receptacle on the NVG is on the mount, so it would be easiest to replace the plug/receptacle combo to something else than wait for unavailable or reverse engineered parts... Mouser or Digikey provide 3d .stl of thier plug/receptacle parts.

    There is this UA-camr called "msylvain59". Dismantling old avionics equipment is pretty much all he does, including Soviet bloc gear. I don't know him, and he may or may not want to get involved, but I suggest reaching out to him.

    Are you not Ukrainian, or were you raised elsewhere? I ask respectfully out of curiosity. I have quite a few Ukrainian friends here in the US. None of them have your accent. I would have guessed you were Estonian or Finnish based on accent
