I have it set to specifig gravity. I am trying to calibrate and i think my salinty has been off by 4 points since I got it over a month ago. If I have it on and I dip it into the calibrations solution that is 35.00 ppt than shouldnt it say 1026 specif gravity? That is what 35 ppt is! Makes no damn sense and I want it kept at specif gravity not ppt. when I dip it in to check it it tells me 1022. Why? Also after I follow all directions and pull it out it says use then If I dont use it right away it says error. First it has store rec and all. it it safe to stick it straight in the salt water then, maybe some chemicals on it? Even then how do I know it calibtarted it right? My refractometer dosnt and thats why I bought this. It stays set at 1.000 when not in use, is this right? I dont know how to double check it other than dipping back. Another odd thing is when I dip it back to check I get 1022 and my tank also is reading 1022. What the hell is going on? I have been using this all along after mt crash on all 3 tanks. Ilost everything but some softies and they arent doing well, no wonder. They are in wrong salinity constanly. I can thank Hanna checker for losing 2,000.00 worth of corals! I was going to buy a few tomorrow to tes the waters becuase everything is right BUT salinity of corse. I guess I will change it to read it in ppt but dont seehow it matters. How does on eknow if it working right? lIKE ON A REFRACTOMETER YOU LINE IT UP WITH A SCREWDRIVER BUT YOU JUST HAVE TO TRUST THAT THIS IS RIGHT? sHOULD BE ABLE TO CHECK THE FLUID! LIKE YOU DO WITH A REFRACTOMETER TOO!
That happens to mine too. I calibrate it and my salt levels is of. I have it at SG as well. Off by 4 points as well

Why does cal appear on the secondary display. There is nothing written about it in the manual. It has never gone off even after recalibrating. What's its purpose?
Why does cal stay on bottom left side of screen above battery bars after I calibrate it
I put it in the tank without cleaning the front part. Do I have to clean it before using it?
No not if cap is left on just rinse the saltwater off afterwards and let dry before covering back up
how often should this sensor be calibrated?

I am having nothing but problems with my hanna salinity checker. Constantly changing into Celsius and other modes after I have calibrated it.

Do you need to warm the calibration solutions to the tank temp when calibrating? It doesn't say anything in the manual, other than do not handle the sachet as it may warm it up..i would have thought calibration solution should be at the temp of your tank to be accurate, but would like tgis clarifying
No, the checker will automatically adjust you just don't wanna set it anywhere that'll cause a quick swing during the few seconds of calibrating or hold it by hand. Set it in a cup or something with meter in calibrating pack till its done
i lost my bleucover cap is this a problem
Any helpful hints as to how I get the battery cover off since it's acting like Bigfoot superglued it on? (former airplane mechanic here so I know left loosy rightee tightee)
You can use the grove on the blue cap to loosen the battery cover. Insert the grove on the cap into the battery slot firmly and rotate counter clockwise. Should easily get the cover off. Use same approach to tighten. Hope this helps.
