You know what's sad? Every week when I check my calcium I have to watch this video

I am so glad I didn’t impulse buy this. Thank you so much for this video!
Red Sea seems way more simplified as well as less time consuming, and just as accurate. Thx

I have been using Red Sea for almost 7 years and it was a completely different result, so I’m sending off for an ICP rest to triple check everything I tested today.

@@CyndiR_ I find this test to be really accurate when I learned to use it right, for the most part this guy is spot on with his tutorial. It's very sensitive but it is really spot on when I add calcium and take measurements where my Red Sea can be hit or miss depending on when I think it's completely blue versus purple. I trust both tests now very much and if I get a number that doesn't make sense it tends to be my fault.

This is all spot on here, while personally I don't like to touch the vial at all after cleaning and choose to handle it with a clean towel, this is something Hanna should be using on their site to teach users how to use this device. My first dozen uses were wildly inaccurate and yes, I was using the pipette wrong just as you explained. Using the tips is very critical too for all of the syringes and the 100µl pipette. I created a 400PPM calcium solution and was able to reproduce 10 readings in a row at 400 to 401 PPM without question. Great device, great tutorial.

I worked in the medical industry and to assure accuracy you should calibrate the pipette once per year. I figured out a cheap way of doing that. You can buy calibrated glass pipette or a volumetric pipette as a standard. You pipette out the amount of water, I use food coloring to make it easy to see and then use the glass pipette to check the volume. Easy way to check calibration. Another way is to use a scale then they you have to get your scale calibrated every year. Good video

I was on the fence about buying checker. After watching your video, I bought it. I used Walgreens distilled water and compared to my RODI water. It resulted in two distilled water test at 377 and 377. RODI was 371 which I find acceptable. My Rea Sea pro test results in the same spectrum of scores but not an exact number. Thanks for may a very detailed video ! I love the checker compared to the color comparing tests.

Just bought this from my lfs. Guy who sold it to me told me not to use the syringe for the salt water sample. As with everything, I do my own research and it led me here. I already have the KH, NO3 and PO4 Hanna checkers. The big thing for me is to not only clean the vial with RO after every test, but I also clean the syringes with RO. I normally fill the vial with sample water and empty it 2/3 times whilst shaking out as much water as possible. I’ve had a few cases where dust/ particles have thrown off the C2 test. I think cleaning is arguably the most annoying part of the Hanna testers. I hate that the vials are so narrow too. You need a fairly steady hand when using the liquid reagents.
I think the key to any testing regardless of which test you use, is to perform the test exactly the same and at the same time of the day to the previous test. Ultimately you can be doing the test wrong every time, but if you are consistent in how you perform the test, it will at least allow you to keep things stable which is the real goal here. ICP tests every 3 months to make sure your testers are calibrated.

I have two concerns. The first is the very small size of the saltwater sample. The second is the use of liquid reagents. One major benefit of the Hanna phosphate checker, for example, is the use of foil-wrapped reagent powder which does not significantly deteriorate. With liquid reagents they deteriorate rapidly once opened.

I've been using this kit for about a year with great repeatable results, always in the 430-450 range. Then just recently I didn't test for about 2 weeks and now my test was flashing 600. So I trusted the unit, even did a second test using a new vial. Compared results with my red kit, and red sea showing 450-470. Then I got worried, changed the battery just to see, nope same results. Figuring now maybe my reagents were low and not accurate. Went to LFS and bought a refill kit. Tested water again. still flashing 600. I mixed up a new batch RSCP salt water to have another reference (which should be around 465)...nope flashing 600. SO I'm at a loss now. The unit is broken. After one year of perfect tests and took very good care of this kit all I get now is flashing 600. I'm fortunate I didn't turning off my dosing for a week or more trusting this unit. I was really an advocate of this kit because I was getting great results EVERY TIME. And just like that, the unit is no longer useful. I've been using the same distilled water I've always been using, even tried a different one.

Excellent, thank you---The one question I have is with the first syringe you used to get the RO water. Someone mentioned to me that you don't have to use the extension piece, just use the syringe itself and draw it up to the 0.1 level. If you 'do' use the extension do you draw the water up to the 0.1 level on the syringe or the top round mark on the extension. Thx again.

Still confused on syringe drawing reagent. You state "pull all way to 1 mil mark" the 1.0 ml mark is at very tip. Your reagent did not reach the 1ml mark. So do you simply draw syringe all the way open with disregard to marks on syringe? Sorry if I misunderstood.
