      So good. I love the simplicity. It's an absolute must for anyone who mixes their own saltwater. It's also a critical parameter to have stable for a happy tank. Thank you for commenting. I've just subbed to your channel and going to binge watch tonight. Take care mate 👍

      Thank you Jack. Its very accurate and a great piece of kit, but not the number I was hoping for!! Was a bit trigger happy on the salt...hahaha.

      It's wonderful to receive those comments from a very experienced and knowledgeable reef keeper. I agree, the Hanna Nitrate checker is only for special occasions. I intend to use it once per month. In all honesty, I agree it's a real pain. It's a shame after the Hanna salinity, alkalinity and phosphate checkers which are great. This is genuine video diary of our 1st reef system to document our journey and to discover how challenging it is to keep a saltwater reef tank. I wish it was paid, my bank account would have black numbers 😂. Take Care.

    Hi mate. Could you give an update on this salinity tester. I’m about to purchase it but there is a lot of mixed reviews about it. Much appropriated

      It's a brilliant piece of kit, just make sure you recalibrate it every month at least. Buy plenty of reagents and it's a brilliant piece of kit 🙂

    Can you use distilled water to calibrate it ?

      Good question. As far as I know you have to use the Hanna salinity calibration fluid. 🙂

    Mines read high and I was at 35 ppt it also read 37 is that an issue with yours?

    • @jaysrealreefuk
      @jaysrealreefuk  5 місяців тому

      You can switch between ppt and specific gravity. So 35ppt is equal to 1.026sg. so we are both running the same salinity. Thank you for watching and commenting 🙂

    Hi there. You're numbers were incorrect; that's why it appeared to be high. After calibration, when you see REC you must save it, you did not do that. The meter timed out while you were talking- they're not meant to sit on the REC screen indefinitely. Therefore you would've had to hit CAL again & redip back into the solution. FYI- I'm speaking from experience. Made the same mistake my first go of it.

      @@jaysrealreefuk You're welcome. Just so you know, you have to 'save' after calibrating with all of the stick meters. If I'm not mistaken, the colorimeters (10ml vial insertion) don't require calibration.

    Hi, do you have to calibrate it every time you use it? Cheers

      No just on the first occasion when you setup the line. I will keep an eye on it through testing. If levels creep up too high, I will dial.in a lower dose on the app. Thank you for commenting. Take Care
