3:57 I can still remember the first time I saw/played this game back in 1981. It was in Larkins wee shop at the bottom of the street in Letterkenny (county Donegal, Ireland).
I thought it was incredibly futuristic at the time Ha ha! ....the strange thing is that I'm only, after all these years, realizing that the music is the Classical Guitar piece "Romance"!
    EDIT
My favourite game of that period was "Scramble"!

@@GeorgesChannel I've just finished a play session with Half-Life: Alyx (which I bought yesterday) on the Meta Quest 3 via virtual desktop.
I went as far as the Point where you first meet Russell face-to-face - Absolutely incredible (practically black magic! ha ha!) and really shows just how far video games have come.

It's a pretty impressive port for a plus 4 game. But the one thing I don't like about it is having to turn your monitor on its side.

Just for clarification, the Plus 4 doesn’t have hardware sprites does it?

for some reason, the version of Phoenix I like more is the Atari 2600 one, Arcade and C64 seems somehow slower and clunky.

Thank you for your great comment! Well for nostalgia reason, i always stick to the original one (with all its flaws), but every variation has its strenghts and weaknesses.

I'll take Demon Attack over Phoenix. It's a solid port though.

So, why only compare these 2 versions? - I get that this C16/Plus4 version is fairly new and it does look absolutely stunning. ❤
    - But if you're going to make a comparison video, you might as well bring as many ports into the fold as you can find, right?
    - On the ZX Spectrum it is called "Pheenix" and the C64 version is called "Eagle Empire".
    - The Amstrad CPC's is just called "Phoenix" and the Amiga version is called "Mega Phoenix".
    - And those are just the ones I can recall off the top of my head. I bet there is a whole slew of ports for many of the other Retro's out there... like BBC Micro, ATARI, NES, SNES, Sega, and possibly some of the Sony Playstations... yes, many of the later platforms have also gotten remakes of quite a few of the old classics.

Maybe in a next video. The plus/4 happens to be my main focus ont his channel.

And i wanted to show the rotated screen on real hardware, which not many ports have.

@@GeorgesChannel Indeed, a very rare and special feature for a port.
      - My first encounter with this game was on the ZX Spectrum, which was my first computer. My second computer was the C128, and I have been searching for decades for the C64 version. Not knowing that it wasn't called "Phoenix" or "Pheenix", but "Eagle Empire" on the C64. Which I only first realized a little over a year ago, when watching a video by Robin Harbron of the YT-channel "8 Bit Show And Tell", where he takes a nerdy deep-dive into the machine-code of the game, to find and fix a bug with the final boss battle in the cracked version. To make this even more special for me, when he is showing us the bug, he is playing the game with this joystick that I had 3D-Printed, build and donated to him. Obviously not knowing that I have been looking for this very C64 version for decades. Unfortunately, you can't just go find this video yet, as Robin hasn't released it from being "Patreon Only" yet.
      - But needless to say that this game has become rather special to me, and I just love to see any variations of it... especially such a gorgeous version on a most underrated system like the C16/Plus4 series.

@@Zhixalom Thank you for this nice comment! Nice to meet the creator of the special controller for Robin. He makes fantastic content. You seem to love Phoenix as much as me an i really love to learn about the C64 variation. Its veryhard to port the original arcade feeling on an 8bit. He didi a great job on the plus/4. If TCFS and co-genius collegues would put their hands on this project, i think they would do it almost perfect.
